I enjoyed this creepy stalker story, but the twist was a little lackluster for me. The lottery winner angle was an interesting, refreshing plotline.

The pacing was good and the story was entertaining, but I do think it was somewhat more character-driven than I normally go for. I appreciated that the potentially “crazy” character in this story was a man instead of a woman–too often, it’s the wife that no one believes and who is gaslit into thinking she is crazy.

The main character’s dad reminded me of Pat’s father!

In the end, the way the story wrapped up wasn’t quite satisfying enough for me. There were a few holes that were never closed. I’m sorry I didn’t write spoilers for this one when I read it, though, because I can’t remember enough details!

Audio Review: I enjoyed the narrator Gary Bennett, and thought he was a good fit for Aidan’s character. I don’t believe I have listened to anything else he has narrated, but I would certainly listen to more of his productions in the future.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the early read/listen. The characters were all likable. Narrator did a great job telling the story and giving each character their own voice. Will recommend.

I won’t lie, this one wasn’t my favourite. I think I just wanted it to be the hottest thing since sliced bread. But it was enjoyable all the same!

A) I always say people who indulge in the lottery are paying a greatest fool tax. B) however, I love the hope that it brings people. Because there is always the possibility right?!

Instant wealth, while mostly a luxury is definitely an anxiety inducing problem as well as Aidan soon finds out. How will he navigate his life now that it’s changed insurmountably?!

Cruises through this audiobook! Took no time at all and was a quality ride!

3.5 stars: The story centers around Aiden Marlowe who is grieving after recently losing his wife and the mother of their seven year old twins, to a brain aneurysm. On the worst day of his life, he finds out he just won the powerball lottery. He decides to start anew and for the first time in his life, he doesn't have to worry about money. Aiden, who goes by Marlowe, decides to relocate from Baltimore, Maryland to an upper-class neighborhood in Bury, New Hampshire. He buys a huge house that has some history. Shortly after the move, Aiden and the twins start to sense that something is wrong. It feels like someone is watching and even has been in their home. Letters start arriving, that are threatening his family. The police don't seem to be much help either. Can he keep his children safe?

This was my first Carter Wilson book, and I'm not sure what I think. This book started out well and I was engrossed in the story, but it got bogged down for me. It was a good thing that Marlowe had invited his father over from Dublin because he becomes paranoid, has blackouts and finds refuge in the bottle. There were secrets revealed, some twists and lots of suspense in the short, snappy chapters. My biggest issue was the rather predictable ending that was a letdown for me. I know this is an unpopular opinion, so if you enjoy a thriller where families are in danger, give this one a try, it might be perfect for you. The audiobook was narrated by Gary Bennett, who does a good job adding atmosphere to the story. He gives voice to the characters showing emotion and fear. A new narrator for me and one I enjoyed.

I did not love this one...

The premise sounded so good and like something I would love, unfortunately the story fell short. It was slow paced, drawn out and it just didn't have enough going on. I think the story had a lot of potential, but didn't quite hit the mark.

There were some good parts, and some suspense, I just wish it had just pushed a little more. There were two storylines going on and while I know that there needed to be for it to all fit together, I felt it also took away from the story.

I do know though that some people will absolutely love this one. It's just a preference thing I guess.

This was a psychological thriller that delved deep into our MCs life. When Marlowe stars losing big gaps of time you start really knowing that anything could happen. I really enjoyed this book up to the end.

The New Neighbour is a fast read with great pacing, a large creep house, anonymous stalker style letters, and a main character with just enough flaws to make him relatable. Unfortunately I found the ending to be a bit of an anticlimactic stretch however I many readers are sure to enjoy the grand finally.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3 stars for a good book with an ending I just could get behind.

I have picked this one up and put this one down so many times. I don’t know why, I should like it it has every element of some thing I would love. And for whatever reason I couldn’t like this one. No it just feels flat to me.

I received an audiobook ARC of this novel for review.

The premise of this book intrigued me greatly. How does one cope with such a big win and such a big loss all at the same time? I did find that i was a bit confused or not appreciating certain nuance in the reading of this book, or it may the story was more drawn out than i anticipated from the premise. I found it to be slow, and at times confusing to jump into the story.

The narrator's performance was good, but his accent was throwing me off a smidge.

Overall an ok read! Not sure if i will read another from this author.

I was left underwhelmed by this story with such an intriguing premise.

The pacing was slow, the narration awkward (does he have an Irish accent or not?) And the story didn't have any of the typical elements of a thriller. Everything was blunted and boring.

While technically proficient, the story could use some work to be more engaging.

Thanks to Netgalley for this advance copy.

ARC audiobook provided in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this story and the narrator transitions from character to character seamlessly! The story line captivated me right from the very beginning and I couldn’t decide if Auden was an unreliable narrator or just going through a rough patch. I will say I didn’t see what was coming at all and I thought I had figured it out along the way. It definitely keeps you on your toes and thinking until the last moment!

I did not finish this book, I got about 25% of the way through and did not care enough to spend my time finishing it. It was well written, but I didn't care what secrets were being kept by the husband and the neighbors.

I’m not sure what I thought of this book. The story was interesting and the pacing was good but I just seemed to lose interest about halfway through, waiting for something to happen. I was definitely surprised by the ending.

The day of his wife's funeral, Aiden finds out that he has won the lottery - millions of dollars that will allow him and his twin children to start over in a new place. After purchasing a new home with a dark history in a New Hampshire small town, things begin to happen. He receives threatening anonymous letters, his daughter goes missing for an afternoon, and Aiden cannot remember periods of time. Trying to stay strong for his children, he does not know who to trust when it feels like he is slowly losing his mind.

This was a suspenseful read with a twisty ending that left me impressed. The most avid thriller-reader might find it a bit predictable, but overall, it was an enjoyable read that I would definitely recommend.

I finished this book. It wasn’t awful, but I do think it dove pretty deep in areas i thot too deep for how the book started. I did like the narrator and characters…I just wasnt sold on the story presented. Went too far.

A single day has changed his life forever. The day he lost his wife - he won the Powerball. Life can be funny that way. Followed by grief and memories of his previous life, he packs his small family and moves states away. New home - new life. But the history of the new house begins to hunt him. And while trying to resolve the mystery left behind by the previous owners, he builds up the courage to reveal his own dark secret to his family.

The plot twist was good, and I would have loved the story so much more if the novel kept the full focus on the first story, as I do not find the secondary storyline very intriguing. Although both stories are connected, and the substory was a great explanation of the events that took place, I wish it didn't take as much space in the novel as it did and gave that extra pages to the main story which had my full attention. Thank you NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press publisher for a free ad advanced copy of the novel.

Book Review 📚🎧

⭐⭐⭐

Thank you to @netgalley for this ARC! Very thankful to be reviewing this early copy!
I got this on audiobook and unfortunately I think I would have enjoyed this more if I read it 🤷‍♀️

Quick Summary, Adian Marlowe is attending his wife's funeral with his two young children when he finds out he's holding the winning Powerball numbers. When the worst day of your life becomes the best. Newly millionaire buys a beautiful Mansion to start new with his children but Someone is watching them, and they won't stop until they get what they want.

This was so suspenseful. This had my anxiety at a high through the whole beginning. Not boring, and fast paced! Adians delusions and mania had me crawling out of my seat. With that being said I had a really hard time connecting with the main character? A lot of times things didn't make any sense to me. His emotions at certain times didn't feel placed properly. 🤷‍♀️ I rated this 3 stars because it fell short for me and a lot of my questions were left unanswered.

My oh my...I wasn't expecting this book to be what it was but man, I will definitely read more by this author in the future. Excellent world building, excellent character growth...cringeworthy parenting, grief and healing. Cringeworthy but accurate when dealing with loss, for sure. I related so much to Marlow and found his character lovable and raw. Four stars instead of 5 cuz I figured out the bad guy...bumping it back up to a 5 tho cuz the ending made me cry. Real tears of relief, sorrow...i don't know. I felt the pain I was supposed to feel. Honestly, if this author hasn't suffered real loss, there's something wrong. This book was spot on.

This is a true psychological thriller. I sat with my mouth dropped numerous times throughout this book.

One of the main side stories never gets answered and that bothers me but it doesn’t detract from the main characters story. And really that’s the most important part.

The narrator was awesome. He really brought the characters to life.
