I am blown away by my first NetGalley read. Before starting the book, I gave the author a quick google. What difference does the author make I hear you say? I love to learn a bit about the author - although then you run the risk of liking the person and not the book, and then it all becomes terribly awkward! Luckily, this was not the case and, Heidi (I have decided we are on first name terms) does not disappoint with this book.

Lets get the only bit that I did not love out of the way quickly so I can shamelessly gush over everything else - The Cover - it just looks like a book you find in a 99p bin and think might be worth a shot. In actual fact, it reads like a best seller on the top ten shelf - the cover does not do it justice in my opinion. Linking in with the cover, the blurb maybe gives a bit too much away.

Ok, now I can tell you what I loved about this book.

Heidi has created a brilliant array of characters that all have their part to play, almost like a pantomime cast with the villain, the rescuer etc. She perfectly captured the family dynamics, and the stereotypes and friendships that we all know.

This book is great because it incorporates so many elements - we have the rich man sweeping the girl off her feet in classic Pretty Woman style, the nod to the bonkbusters with some romance in the hay barn, and the broken hearted damsel who had a series of bad luck. Add to this, a modern twist with a strong female character who can hold her own, and you have a best seller in the making. The bit that most makes this book different from others though is the author. She clearly has a wicked sense of humour. You can see personality and individuality with her style of writing, phrases and language used. A few that made me smile: “malevolent crow”, “nugget of sh*t on his boot” and “wank out the family crest” (I laughed out loud at that one). Please don’t think this is a crude or sweary book, these couple of swears just made me chuckle.

There was a lovely nod to Rebecca, by Daphne Du Maurier, in there - one of my favourite books. Even before the nod, I had made the Mrs Danvers comparison in my own head.

The ending was wonderfully predictable, as all good chicklit should be. How annoying would it be if we got to the end of one of these and didn’t get the happy ending, with the warm fuzzy feelings?! Heidi Stephens understood the assignment, and delivered.

I don’t know what to do next now - go read Heidis first book, or start hanging around stables to find myself a wonderful man to roll about in the hay with!

A quick, easy, fun and cute read that I finished in one very short sitting - like 2 hours I whizzed through it. Th e writing is good, with a engahing storyline and well developed charcaters that are relatable and likeable - well some of them. There were moments that were sad but there were also uplifting, heart-warming and funny moments. I really enjoyed it.

I was given an ARC of this book by NetGalley and Headline in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

While there was a super sweet love story at the heart of this book, the writing style was honestly a bit flat and mad it hard to get into. I did really enjoy a lot of the characters, and it made me want to visit Mauritius, but in general everything just fell a bit flat.

I absolutely adored the authors first book, so was keen to see if the second would live up to expectations.
It totally exceeded them. Emily is a fab, strong lead and not afraid to say what she thinks. She has her flaws (seeing a married man and leaving her straighteners on for two) but this makes her more human.

Her new job is nothing like she's known before and she embraces it. I adored the cast on this. Kelly is her fearless friend, and Emily's mum had me laughing out loud on a couple of occasions. These ladies are superbly down to earth and so endearing. Giant toblerones all round...

The family Emily walks into are a little more complicated and its fair to say you love to hate most of them.

Perfect escapism read, humour, villains, a book boyfriend to add to your list and plenty of antics along the way.

Funny, fearless and fantastic.

I really enjoyed this book, yes the plot is predictable but I liked the characters, the story was well written and it’s definitely a book I could imagine taking with me to the beach this summer

I really enjoyed this book, I thought the storyline was fun and sweet with a little bit of steam. The characters were engaging. Loved the mention of Chatsworth in the book as I'm local to it!

This one ended up not being a fit for me. I didn't get very far into this one, as I'm not a fan of books that involve cheating in the plot from the main character even if it's only mentioned briefly. I doesn't help to make the heroine or hero likeable.
