If you want a funny, quick-read mystery, this is the one for you. I devoured this book in a few days - it was quick-witted and the group of women was entertaining.
A fun little mystery. It was supposed to be a fun weekend in New Orleans until someone gets murdered. You don’t even actually find out who that is until almost the end of the novel. Writing style was simplistic and matter-of-fact. Characters were unlikable and you won’t mind which one gets killed..
*Special thanks to NetGalley and One More Chapter.*
If murder can ever be a fun read, this book would epitomise it! A group of flawed women all with secrets to keep and motives to kill the victim meet for a bachelorette party in a luxurious but spooky New Orleans house. Cleverly written so the reader doesn't know until the end who is murdered; a definite page turner and easy to read although I imagine difficult to write
Thank you to netgalley and Harper Collins for for an advance copy of this book
This is a must read author for me. This book was a lighter thriller than some of her others I have read, but still enjoyed it.
Six women, one body.
We start off meeting a female detective who is investigating a crime scene. The body of a woman is hanging from the ceiling in an old, supposedly haunted, rental property in New Orleans. The NOLA creepy setting was perfect and done well!
So who is hanging? Suicide? Murder? Who killer her? All good questions. And answers will come!
This is told in multiple POV which can be confusing, but I flet it worked well here. On this bachlorette party weekend trip are Rosalee, the bride-to-be who is quirkly, clumsy and loveable; Elizabeth, to soon to me MIL with very high expections; Bri, soon to be SIL; Tinsley, Rosalee's cousin - they grew up together and are more like sisters; Georgia, who is the groom's best friend, gorgeous, from the right class, and the woman Elizabeth wanted her son to marry; and Mara, best friend of the bride and not particularly likeable at all!
Each of these women has a story, secrets, baggage, history, and some if it they don't want to be public. I didn't like all the characters, be I definitely felt connected to them and wanted to know their story.
This storyline is a bit confusing at first, but I think it is meant to be that way. As it unfolds, you start to understand the way these women are interwoven, the things going on in their lives, their pasts, and you will think you know what happened. Your probably don't At least, I didn't. There were definitely some twists and things I didn't see coming.
A lighter version, but still a solid thriller! Now I wait for the next CAL book!
Many thanks to Netgalley and HarperCollins UK/One More Chapter for my ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Wow! Just wow! Carissa Ann Lynch has literally blown my mind. I love how this book was set up. It felt like reading an actual police case. The story itself felt like it was paying an homage to the classic board game of Clue. Body found. Five suspects. Who did it? Every single character has secrets that they want to keep hidden, but every single one comes to light. I love the fact that it's right before the book ended that I found out who the killer was. I honestly had no clue, and never saw it coming. It literally could have been any of them. The kicker, though, the ending!!! After you find out who the killer is, there is a jaw dropping climax that you never see coming. Round of applause to Carissa for this book! She proves over and over that she is a master of her craft.
A weekend bachelorette trip to New Orleans turns deadly for one of the party members in this locked room thriller that is perfect for fans of Lucy Foley & Ruth Ware. There were just six people on the trip: the bride, her best friend from college, the bride's cousin that is like a sister to her, the groom's mom, his sister, and his female best friend. From the very beginning the tension is palpable amongst all of the members of the party. Every single person is hiding something. The groom's mother & sister have made it blatantly obvious that they don't care for Rosalee, and don't think she is good enough for Asher. Their actions range from catty to downright cruel. The chapters are told from the viewpoint of each of the different main characters, so you get a full picture of what is truly going on. It starts with the police in the house they rented for the weekend, investigating the murder, but it doesn't say who was murdered, then the story goes back to the first day when they are just arriving at the airport. The final 25 percent of the book is after the murder but still doesn't immediately reveal who is murdered. Instead, it takes you through the investigation, with the next several chapters devoted to interviewing the suspects, one by one. Only by process of elimination, do you realize who it is that was murdered.... and then you still don't know who the murderer was. This book did start out with a bit of a slow burn, but it didn't take too long before I was completely hooked. I highly recommend this one!
I love a locked room thriller! Great character development with such an intriguing group of characters. There was the young woman--soon to be married--who seemed to be too much of a people pleaser; her cousin--rather shy; her best friend gregarious and a bit too outspoken; the soon-to-be mother-in-law--who wanted her son to marry someone else; the groom-to-be's bestie--the one the mother-in-law wanted her son to marry; and the soon to be sister-in-law--stoic, alcoholic and a bit too much under her mom's control.
When someone ends up dead after this bachelorette weekend, You don't find out which one right away. I was completely wrong about who was killed! Although honestly, the groundwork has been laid that it could be any of them. Also killed by any of them. I missed some of the little hints that didn't seem important.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Four stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My first book from this author but definitely not my last.
Oh how I love a ‘locked in’ thriller. I read this in less than one day and it’s the perfect holiday read.
What a dislikable bunch they all are, not a redeeming quality amongst them
Great stuff
New Orleans: live music, endless drinks, brightly-coloured attractions, the perfect place for a party....
The bride-to-be - The best friend - The cousin - #The Mother-in-law - The sister - The groom's friend.
The bachelorette party starts on a Friday night; all six women are excited for a chance to escape their everyday lives. But then friendly rivalries turn vicious, and a game of truth or dare turns deadly.
Everyone has secrets and resentments. No one likes or trusts anyone at the party. The story is told from the six people attending the bachelorette party's perspectives. Each chapter is headed with a name and their relationship to the bride. I did not want to put this fast paced down. A game of truth or dare turns deadly, by the end of the weekend, one of them will be dead. The final twist, I never saw coming. This well written story held my attention throughout.
I would like to thank #Netgalley #HarperCollinsUK #OneMoreChapter and the author #CarissaAnnLynch for my ARC of #TheBacheloretteParty in exchange for an honest review.
The trouble with starting this book is that it begins with a murder and you have to read it to the end to find out who did it, even when you don’t like the awful characters and think the plot is totally unbelievable! Who on earth would plan a party and invite just a few women who hate each other? Saying that, there was plenty of intrigue and hidden secrets, and I enjoyed the multiple POV’s and short chapters. Even though the absolute and total waste of money spent on the party appalled and sickened me I ploughed on to the end to find out who the culprit was. Not really a book I’d recommend, but thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read it.

My Thoughts: While this is the first time I have read this author, I know Lynch has put out amazing novels prior to this, so I will be looking up her backlist. This was a solid read. I loved this spin on the bachelorette party with a murder twist. I would liked to have seen more done with the backdrop of New Orleans, but that is just me. The story is narrated by multiple characters, from their point of view, at first it was a little confusing, but I got the who is who soon thereafter. The characters were developed well, with depth, many secrets, betrayals, mysterious, and creatively written. None of the characters are particularly likable, but you could relate to an extent, and that is how they are written into the story, and that is how they work together. The author’s writing style was complex, suspenseful, has a creepy element, and was easy to binge read in a few hours. The characters were well thought out, the plot was delivered into twisty layers, and the ending was whoa, where did that come from? I recommend you pick up this fast paced, easy to get through thriller next month!

I just reviewed The Bachelorette Party by Carissa Ann Lynch. #NetGalley
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance read. The book right from the start, just seems to wild ( in a unrealistic way) and I really wanted to read this because of the wedding back drop but the book was not flushed out with characters and it was not very well written because it just did not seem to realistic to me.
I really enjoyed this thriller about a bachelorette party where everyone is holding on to deep secrets and resentments. Everyone at this party doesn’t trust of even like each other and when the worst happens will anyone get away from this weekend unharmed and will the wedding go ahead.
Six women are invited to the weekend bachelorette party, but one of them won’t make it home.
An intriguing whodunnit which leaves you guessing until the very last page who actually killed one of the party and why. Each chapter is from the point of view of one of the guests and each one has secrets that they don’t want the others to know.
I really enjoyed the way the tension built throughout the book and I didn’t work out who the killer was either!
This was just ok for me. I’ve read a few books with this plot before and I feel like this boom didn’t live up to it’s potential.
There were so many characters and so many points of view going on. The writing read like YA to me. I didn’t connect with any of the characters and the twist was predictable.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
The Bachelorette Party was like no other bachelorette party like no other.
Rosalee and 5 of not necessarily her friends are off to New Orleans to celebrate her forthcoming wedding.
Two of those five are her future mother and sister in law.
One is her best friend.
One is her fiance's best friend.
One is her cousin but more like sister.
The vibes are off from the get go.
You can feel tension.
At the end of the weekend one of them is dead .
Closed door mysteries are one of my favourites and I must say I did not guess the entire ending.
The Bachelorette Party is a fun read with twists and turns and will make you think twice before you attend one of these parties.
I cant wait to see what adventure Carissa Ann Lynch takes us on next. I will be first in line.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter for a page turning read.
Easy to read and entertaining but could have been more descriptive and the characters could have been a little better drawn.
This book was a quick read, though almost too quick to give me the information I wanted regarding who was murdered and why. It centers in a bachelorette party in New Orleans; Rosalee is getting married and her best friend, cousin, future mother and sister in law, and her husband’s female best friend are in attendance. You know immediately that someone dies but the first half of the book takes you to the lead-up and the 2nd half through the investigation.
The book is short, and while you do get some info around the dynamics between the women and the secrets they were keeping, I would’ve liked even more in this area to help lead up to what eventually happens. That being said, the lack of this background data means that the book moves quickly and that there is always something happening- I think I finished it in probably 3.5 hours. I’ve seen others say that all the characters were unlikable but I didn’t feel that way- some were but the dynamics between them seemed realistic to me.
Overall, super fast read with a good twist that definitely left me trying to figure out what happened before it was revealed. While it was more surface level than truly character driven, I enjoyed it. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Six women at.a bachelorette story tell this tale of murder. Rosalee is getting married and her BFF has rented a mansion, a creepy one, outside New Orleans, for the party. All six of the women have secrets but one of them has a big one-and one of them ends up dead. No spoilers from me. This is a familiar theme but Lynch has done a joke job of creating a good setting and characters you'll find pretty generally unlikable, which works, Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. A good read for.a rainy day.
