A getaway bachelorette party weekend goes to hell. Rosalee is the bride-to-be, marrying her dream guy, Asher. Her best friend since college, Mara, plans an extravagant weekend getaway to New Orleans. Her cousin, Tinsley, is as close to her as a sister since TInsley's family took in Rosalee when her parents died. Then bizarrely we have Georgia, the groom's gorgeous best friend (and more?), future sister-in-law Bri and future mother-in-law Elizabeth. In no universe would this group go away together, but whatever, go with it because it's a wild ride. We learn at the beginning that one of the women is dead by the end of the weekend and then through alternating chapters from the various women and the police investigator we learn about the women's secrets and drama until ultimately we find out who-bought-it as well as whodunnit. A fun, suspenseful story.
Overall I enjoyed this read. Six women go on a bachelorette party weekend in a stunning mansion with an eerie past in New Orleans. All of them are harboring resentments towards each other; all are keeping secrets from the others; all can be perfect suspects but also perfect victims. None of these characters are very likable but the story line is an interesting one and there were several twist throughout that kept me intrigued.
A great read. Six women getting together for a batchelorette party what could possibly go wrong? I cannot recommend this highly enough. It was a really great read with twists and turns right to the end. The reader is drawn in to the relationships between the women. How will they all get along; the future mother-in-law, sister-in-law, best friend, cousin, groom's ex girlfriend and the bride?
From the first to last page I was gripped. Carissa Ann Lynch has become one of my favorite authors and I look forward to reading more.
A Four-star read that won’t be to everyone’s taste, I don’t know about this one, I sent most of the first half thinking should I give up and stop reading, but I hate quitting halfway through, so I kept going. There were twists a plenty, but it almost felt like too many, as I was wondering what was real and what was a red herring and it was complex to keep straight, when I just wanted a thrilling read.
A Bachelorette Party held in a creepy mansion with secret rooms, and six guests all hiding something. What could possibly go wrong?
Well one of them doesn't make it out of the party alive. We find this out in the blurb and in the opening chapter. This was a real draw for me as I enjoy trying to solve whodunit and what the motive was. However we also have to work out who was murdered as we are not told straight away. This made things much more interesting and no, I didn't guess correctly either.
The story is told from alternating POVs from the six guests and the detective investigating the murder. Most of the characters are unlikeable but I don't mind that in a thriller. It also means anyone could be guilty as everyone appears to be deceitful.
The only negative is this was a short book and so some parts felt rushed and would have benefitted from some more fleshing out. I would have appreciated a little more description of New Orleans itself to be able to soak up the atmosphere in more depth.
I did love the final twists and I didn't guess the outcome or solve the mystery. So this is a read I would recommend.
I've been a fan of Carissa's writing before with her Flocksdale Files series and was excited to read The Bachelorette Party. This book is a fairly quick read and took me an afternoon and part of the evening to get through. I admit, I was engrossed as it's wrote from everyones perspectives. Rosalee (The future bride of Asher), Myra (The Best Friend to Rosalee and Maid of Honour), Tinsley (Cousin to Rosalee and bridesmaid), Bri (Future sister-in-law and bridesmaid), Elizabeth (Future mother-in-law, or should be that monster-in-law?) and Georgia (Best friend to Asher and bridesmaid). That's without other characters. In fact the way this story is told from each persons single perspective, plus the police interviews too its really quite clever. Who dies? You won't find that out till the back end of the book! What happens? Well, be prepared for a clever, intricate story. Can you trust anyone? No.
This book is so twisted, is it over the top? Yes without a doubt. But it made for a really fun read and I liked that. I loved that it kept me guessing. I enjoyed that I kept changing my mind as to who died and who was responsible. I loved that there were separate secrets and mysteries within this book. But what really impressed me was that final chapter. Now that I wasn't expecting.
Read in one sitting, I really enjoyed The Bachelorette. I loved books set in New Orleans (It's on my bucket list) and the beautiful setting. I liked the unreliable characters, their flaws, the secrets. A little over the top, not really believable, but definitely a fun read. A sold 4 stars!
I'd like to thank NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for providing me a copy of The Bachelorette in exchange of an honest review.
This book had so much potential, but it somehow never got there. It was set in New Orleans but didn't have any o the city's magic woven into its pages. The "twists" were more and more farfetched. Sadly, there are better thrillers out there that execute on this premise much more skillfully.
Thank you to NetGalley and One More Chapter fo this ARC.
A great plot line - women on a hen party at an expensive hotel, one of them will not be alive by the end of the weekend- but which one? They are all hiding something but who will kill to keep there's? Sorry but I didn't warm to any of the characters as none of them seemed likeable. The amount of food that was ordered was ridiculous and it was basically a truth or dare party with loads of alcohol thrown in the mix and with a deadly conclusion. I did finish reading it although thought the ending although surprising was very rushed when compared to the rest of the novel. The erie style of the hotel could have been played in more!
Many thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this novel, but unfortunately not for me and I won't be recommending.
This took me awhile to get into which was unfortunate. The premise was great but some elements needed fine tuning.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Really enjoyed this book kept you thinking right till the end . Would definitely recommend this book a really good read .
Oh my goodness... I do not know if I'll be able to go on any more bachelorette trips! Because that is how creepy and yet amazing this novel is. Great writing and the characters really were fantastic in this one. Must read!
An easy and entertaining read, which ultimately felt a bit shallow. The characters all seemed a bit formulaic and unbelievable, and I didn't get much of a sense of atmosphere. A good, undemanding holiday read.
On my gosh!
I was totally gripped from the first page. It's been a while since I have read such a brilliant book in one sitting.
This was a great storyline, good strong characters and a great setting!
It was an enjoyable and easy read. The short chapters made it easier to get through the story and the different POV's made it interesting. Despite that, I felt like a lot of things were missing and that the ending happened too quickly. Like I was reading just a few short summaries and the story ended. I wish there was more to read and that the last few chapters had more detailed information or at least contained more excitement.
Thank you Harper Collins, One More Chapter for the ARC!
This was an enjoyable book. I always like mysteries where it's a "Who done it?" You know a crime has been committed but not how or who. The whole time reading I thought it was one character that we saw in the beginning. I believed actually a lot of wrong guesses. Which just proves this was a wonderfully written book that was plotted out just right to keep you guessing the whole time.
A great easy read that kept guessing me to the end. Written from six POVs this book was easy to pick up and read to the end of a chapter and put down again and with the name and relationship to the bride at the start of each chapter was a great help. Thoroughly enjoyed this book, it would make a great holiday read.
This was a fun locked room mystery. It truly had me guessing both whodunit and who was dead.
I loved how unlikeable ALL of the characters were. I think their different personalities, problems, and POV really helped keep me from solving the mystery before it was revealed. I love a book that can surprise me.
A great book for people looking for an easy thriller.
I do wish though that we could have played a little more into the history of the building they were staying in.
Thank you for the opportunity to read "The Bachloretty Party"
Side note to the author: I'm obsessed with the subte "Jolene" reference early on in the book.
When celebrating what can go wrong. Enjoyed the read and the not knowing till the end of the book. First time reading this author and I don’t think it will be the last!
Sometimes I’m sorry I didn’t read more reviews of this book before requesting it. It sounds not bad, a party with six women:
The bride-to-be Rosalee > who is very shy and uncertain
The best friend Mara > who is not such a good friend after all
The cousin Tinsley > who doesn’t voice her anger until it’s too late
The mother-in-law Elizabeth > who is old, rich and very snobbish
The sister.in law Bri > who hides many things
The groom’s friend Georgia > who hides even more
Actually, they are all hiding many things from each other… In between all the hiding they are all on horribly bad behaviour… Mara organised a very expensive hotel for them to stay in, and ordered so much food and drink that reading about it alone made my stomach churn… All they do is secretly trying to unveil each other’s secrets, and in the mean time they drink, drink and drink…
The characters, after a while, all blur together into one nasty person… I love a good story about a horrible mother-in-law (not that I ever had one!) and a party that’s not being a party at all, but this is way overdone…
About the writing style: after five pages I began to feel a slight irritation about the use of three full stops at the end of a sentence and it kept irritation me throughout the book.
So, this author just isn’t for me, unfortunately.
Thanks to Netgalley and HarperCollins for this digital review copy.
Rosalee and Asher are engaged. Mara, Rosalee’s best friend organises the bachelorette party. There are six woman in the party, all have their secrets and all appear to seriously dislike each other. A very random selection of invitees, none of them want to attend the party and certainly don’t hide the fact. The story starts with the reader knowing there has been a murder, but which one of the guests is the body and who is responsible? Written from the POV of each guest, plus the detective in charge, the plot starts before the party get together, and meanders on through to the epilogue.
A very quick read with no actual substance. This storyline has been done to death (!), and this version adds nothing to the offerings. The pace was fast, so fast that the ending was nearly missed. The epilogue seemed to be an afterthought, with the twist hardly being a surprise.
A pleasant, easy, no fuss book. Perfect for a holiday read when you need something light.
2.5* upped to 3*.
Thank you NetGalley.
