I was immediately taken in and was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I love when I thriller can surprise me and this one did exactly that.
I was excited to read this debut from Bradeigh Godfrey since I met her through bookstagram.
This twisty psychological thriller involves estranged sisters who seem to be polar opposites. Now, as they are about to reunite, Rosie tells Lilian there is something she must talk to Lilian about, but before she can, an accident occurs, leaving Rosie with traumatic brain injuries and unable to recognize her sister, Lilian.
Told from both sisters' perspectives, the story explores the complicated dynamics of sisterhood and the devastating impact of abusive relationships. As much as this is a thriller, I felt it was a domestic suspense—betrayal, obsession, and secrets swirling around the sisters' relationship.
What shines here is the fact that Bradeigh is a physician, as the facts of not only traumatic brain injury and Capgras Syndrome gave this an authentic and well-researched feel.
Thank you, @bradeighgodfrey, for this gifted ebook.
"Imposter" by Bradeigh Godfrey delivers a spine-chilling and jaw-dropping narrative that unfolds with suspenseful mastery. The story revolves around two sisters, Lilian and Rosie, whose lives take a dark turn after a tragic car accident during a snowstorm. The compelling plot, set against a backdrop of secrets and sibling dynamics, explores the aftermath of the untimely death of their parents, which had previously pulled the sisters apart.
Godfrey's storytelling prowess shines as Lilian, the surviving sister, is thrust into a web of mystery and danger. The novel delves into the complexities of family bonds, with Lilian determined to uncover the truth behind the accident and the secrets Rosie held. The author skillfully builds tension, keeping readers on the edge of their seats as Lilian unearths disturbing revelations about her sister's past.
The exploration of themes like sacrifice, betrayal, and the consequences of abandonment adds depth to the narrative. The writing is evocative, painting a vivid picture of the characters' emotional turmoil and the eerie atmosphere surrounding the unfolding events. "Imposter" is a riveting psychological thriller that not only keeps readers guessing but also explores the lengths one sister is willing to go to protect and understand the other. Bradeigh Godfrey delivers a masterful tale that lingers in the mind, leaving an indelible mark of suspense and intrigue.
I really liked this one. Great characters, great story. Kept everyone guessing. I like when there aren't crazy twists in a thriller.
Lillian and Rosie grew up inseparable. With parents that were not always present, Lillian often took on the role as caretaker to younger Rosie. However, in adulthood, the two drifted apart and didn't speak for almost 2 years. When they finally reunite, they are headed to dinner together when they are involved in a car accident. The aftermath leaves both women injured, and Rosie has a serious brain injury. As she recovers, Rosie becomes confused and untrustworthy of her loved ones.
This was such a captivating read! Each chapter gets deeper into Rosie's psyche and I loved the psychological elements weaved throughout. As soon as something seemed one way, another detail was revealed that completely changed the narrative. I was distrustful of Daniel from the get-go, and though I guessed part of the twist, the way it unfolded surprised me! The second half of this novel flew by and I couldn't wait to find out who was following Rosie and Lillian! Also, I totally related to Lillian's struggles as a new mother and the postpartum anxiety she dealt with.
Thank you to the author and publisher for a review copy of Imposter! I have followed Bradeigh on Instagram for several years and was honored to review this book!
The book title didn’t make a lot of sense until the last quarter of the book when it all fell neatly into place. There is a lot going on in this story about different types of abusive relationships and their consequences. All in all, it is a lesson in listening to what people are saying without judgment. I highly recommend this novel. #Imposter #BlackstonePublishing
This is a phenomenal debut! I loved the writing so much. I have actually read and listened to this book, I enjoyed it that much. The book hooked me from page 1 and I could not stop reading. I will definitely be reading more from this author!
This was a bit slow for me. It took me a good while to get in to the storyline and then once I did, I honestly didn’t care much about it. I think it’s because I wasn’t connected with the characters. Overall a so-so read.
Blown away doesn’t begin to describe my feelings about @bradeighgodfrey debut solo novel Imposter 🤯
I don’t know that I’ve ever consciously read a book written by a Doctor or medical professional and as someone in the (non clinical) medical field it sometimes is difficult reading books with medical scenarios because they just don’t feel plausible. THIS IS NOT ONE OF THOSE BOOKS. Bradeigh did such an OUTSTANDING job of writing from the medical perspective (she is a doctor 🤩) and I never once felt pulled from the story because of the jargon/scene/terminology. I cannot rave hard enough about how well this book is written. The characters are so wonderfully cultivated and my heart was instantly invested.
Lillian and Rosie haven't spoken in years, but then soon after Lillian has a baby, Rosie reaches out. On the drive to dinner, Rosie reveals that she needs to tell Lillian something dire, and at the same time they get into a serious car crash. Lillian is ok, but Rosie has to deal with a traumatic brain injury. All of that happens within the first few pages. This is an incredible thriller. I needed to know what happened next at every turn of the page.
*fun fact: the author is a physician who focuses on rehabilitation of neurological injuries, so she knows her stuff*
Go into this one blind and enjoy the ride. Thrillers have been a little blah for me lately but this one restored my faith in them and wove a web that I was happen to follow as it unraveled. I was motivated to keep reading/listening and finished it in one day.
Rosie and Lillian were inseparable as sisters growing up. Until Lillian left for college, leaving Rosie carrying a sense of abandonment into her adulthood.
But hopefully, it’s time for the sisters to reconcile after a few years of estrangement following a terrible argument.
On the way to dinner Rosie tells Lillian that she needs to share something very important. Literally a matter of life or death. But she never gets the opportunity. From out of nowhere, another car slams into them as they careen off the road. The mysterious accident has left Lillian with a severe concussion and Rosie with a traumatic brain injury.
Now Rosie can no longer recognize those closest to her. Not even her sister or fiancé. Rosie desperately tries to communicate but her frustrations grow. Now Lillian is determined to find out what the critical piece of news was that her sister was trying to share just before the accident.
This was a clever thriller that held my attention throughout. Though I did guess the twist fairly early on. Oh well! Still an intriguing thriller!
I listened to the audio and both narrators did a great job with the characters.
This was so good. I would recommend this to any one. The story flowed and it was just so good. I can not say enough about it.
I really don’t even know where to start. I don’t think there was anything wrong with the book per se… it was more of a it’s me not you situation. I kind of just found myself dozing off. Not for me.
Lilian hasn’t seen her sister Rosie in two years, and out of the blue she gets a call from Rosie telling her that she needs to see her in person, it’s a matter of life or death. On the way to the restaurant, the two sisters get in a car accident and Rosie is badly injured, leaving her with a traumatic head injury. Now Lilian is starting to wonder if the accident was just an accident or did somebody drive into her sister’s car on purpose? Wow, just WOW. I could not figure out what direction this book was going and so many different scenarios were playing out in my head. I read this book in two days, I just could not put it down. It had my heart beating like crazy at the end; the suspense was killing me! This is a psychological thriller you do not want to pass up. I will be patiently waiting for Bradeigh Godfrey’s next book!
Ooo, this book was so twisty!! I really enjoyed reading it and it kept me waiting to find out what would happen next. The tension was built very well and kept your attention. The brain injury that was sustained by one of the main charactes was handled incredibly well. It stayed true to medical facts without confusing or creating doubt with the reader. Highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more of Bradeigh Godfrey's novels!
This book was so well written, the characters so fleshed out, real and raw. I loved all the medical talk at the start and throughout the book (Nursing Student here!) and found it so interesting. I don't want to give anything away. I found myself emotional for these sisters and absolutely loved their relationship. I thought it was written so strongly.
Oh this book. It gave me all the goosebumps. With one twist after another. And the story and plot. Had me on the edge of my couch at all times basically. The ending was absolutely perfection. Thank you, thank you!
I initially requested this book because I loved the romance book that Bradeigh and her friend wrote. Who knew Bradeigh could do two genres SOOO well???
This book is a book that I think will always stick with me. I think about this book all the time and I hope this author continues to write more and more because I am an autobuy author for her now!
The twists and turns, the malpractice suits, the injuries and grief because of Rosie, the reunification of a failed sisterhood turned sinister when Rosie tried to tell her sister something.
I never remember books and this one I always think about and remember. What a book!
This book has some twists and turns I did not see coming!! I loved the suspense and story as it unfolded. The imposter is about two sisters who have fallen out of touch for past two years and agree to meet up for dinner. Rosie has something to tell her sister Lilian she wants to wait until dinner but on their way they end up in a car crash. Rosie ends up with a serious brain injury and is in hospital recovering. Lilian is trying to figure out what her sister wanted to tell her. That is just the beginning the story is full of suspenseful moments. I loved the medical aspect and setting of the book. It’s a fast page turner book that I loved. Many thanks to Blackstone Publishing and NetGalley for the Audiobook. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
