Definitely a solid dark romance with narration for the audio which I loved. I feel like dual narration gives more character depth and isn’t as off putting and a single person doing both voices. Cal and Bella have a strong connection & a pact that was supposed to keep them tethered together always. After reconnecting, he’s not about to let her go and the ways their story unfolds is perfect.

Just wow!! This is my first audiobook that I listened to by Rachel Leigh and I am hooked! Bella and Callum were friends for 4 years in a foster home. They made a promise to always stay together but one day changed everything. Years later and fate brings them back together but it won't be easy. I just love their chemistry and it is off the charts hot!! And what a cliffhanger, I can’t wait for the conclusion to this amazing duet!! Highly recommend this book!!

Really loved the book the audio was different for me. Never heard these narrators so I took a bit to get used to them. The male sounded overly excited at times and that took some time for me to adjust.

A very entertaining story with a palpable darkness that permeates throughout the story. I felt their connection immediately and I was intrigued by the depth of the emotion. I loved the dynamics of their relationship and thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I can’t wait to read the next book.

I requested a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Update: I requested a copy of the audio book and was lucky enough to be chosen to listen and review this book. The audio book was amazing. Everything came to life in brilliant color and it was simply mesmerizing. I was captivated by the depth in which I felt the emotional conflict. I loved the book but audio - captivating.

This is just one of those books you just have to read. You feel all of the emotions with this story.

Bella and Callum met in an orphanage at 7 and 10 years old. Vowing to always stay together. Until 4 years later she gets adopted and leaves him behind to become so enslaved and dark minded. Fast forward 12 years and Cal finds her. But they are not the same as they once knew each other. He’s been through hell and it shows.

Completely full of dark twists and turns, revenge, mystery, angst, steam and intense encounters, this book will leave your heart broken but wanting so much more. The secrets revealed will have you gasping right along with them.

The narrators Alexander Cendese and Elizabeth Russell drew me in and I couldn’t stop listening until the end. Definitely getting Her Broken Pieces to see what happens next.

4.5 Stars!
I absolutely loved this story when I first read it and was excited to have the opportunity to review an audiobook copy.

*Here is my original review if the ebook:
I could only say two words about this book they would be…MIND BLOWING!
Bella and Cal are unbelievable together! Cal definitely has his moments where he’s a jerk, but for the most part…I’m left hungry for more of him!
The connection between these two gave me chills!!! All the feels and steam for days!!!
There was a lot going on in this story. There were lies told, broken promises, complicated pasts, and the consequences that can alter everything!
I loved this book so much that even though I received a free copy after volunteering to read and review this book, I had to buy it!!*

It took a few chapters for me to get used to the voices for both “Bella” and “Cal.” Not that there was anything wrong with the narrators, it’s just that while I was reading the book I had already imagined Cal and Bella’s voices, and the two weren’t lining up. But after a bit, I couldn’t imagine a different Cal. Alexander Cendese did a great job! There were a few moments that I would have liked him to slow his pacing a bit, certain points when an inner monologue felt too rushed. Otherwise, he was excellent.
Elizabeth Russel was also very good. Sometimes, when a female narrator has to perform a male’s dialogue, it comes off too high pitched or just awkward. Not this time! Ms. Russel’s voice was just as good as Cal as it was for Bella!
I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This book is incredible as itself, but with the voices of the narrators it became even more awesome.
They lay so much emotion in their way to tell the story and let the characters become to life in front
of your eyes by the way they let them speech. Very well done, keeps you captivated to hear them
read the book.
The story of Callum and Bella, 2 orphans who vowed to each others to stay together until kindom
come, is full of rage, love and angst. Bringing Bella to this island and intending to hold her there,
because she promised him to stay together, and to make her his, is Callums goal. But Bella is not
that innocent little child anymore that she was 12 years ago. Fighting against the past and for a
future seems impossible as the days gone by and secrets are revealed.
Can wait for the second part of the fallen kindom duet come to life as well.

I was on the edge of my seat reading this from beginning to end and that hasn't stopped. I am still on edge and anxiously awaiting the next book. Bella and Callum have been through so much, but more so Callum. I felt for him. The way the author writes their story had my angst sky high and I couldn't put this down. This is one crazy rollercoaster ride and we are not even done with them.

Now, after listening to this via audio, it made me love this even more. The narrators do a spectacular job and really brought the story to life!

"One day he was going to buy me all the dressed in the world, just to prove to myself that they don't hold my beauty."

Bella & Cal love story is heartbreaking & beautiful because their were childrenhood friends and a event torn then apart...no spoilers

When they reunite it is a second chance but it not smooth second chances. Cal is damaged and what happened to him was psychological cruel...no spoilers
WHAT I REALLY LOVE is that Cal dream escape came true...no spoilers

There are steamy scenes and tense scenes that I do not wish to be in. My worst fear 🐍

We learn some dark secrets especially linking with their past...no spoilers

THERE IS A CLIFFHANGER
I did not see coming but am EXCITED for Her Broken Pieces.
Even thou I feel them broken pieces now !! 😭

🎧📚 Alexander Cendese & Elizabeth Russell caught the tension on Bella discovering why she on the Island & who behind it. Cal you feel his betrayal of past events linked to Bella and you can also feel the love he has for her. You feel the tense love they have for each other perfectly.

His Hollow Heart still holds a special place in my heart. Probably always will. So, I was absolutely stoked to be able to review the audiobook version.

My original rating for this story was 5 stars and the story itself still remains at 5 stars. The audio part is a 4.5 stars.

His Hollow Heart was narrated by Alexander Cendese and Elizabeth Russell.

These two narrated the book extremely well, but I thought that the voice for Bella was a tad too “old” sounding for the age she’s supposed to be in the book.

“Until kingdom come. It’s you and me. Always.”

Bella and Callum were lost in the system, like many children are. Until Bella wasn’t. You’d think that would be a good thing, but it wasn’t, at all. At least not for Callum. He was eventually pulled, too… but he ended up in a terrible “home” – if you can even call it that.

“There’s a monster inside of the boy who was once my friend and I’m not sure he’ll ever break free from the chains that bind him to his past.”

With everything that Callum went through, it’s understandable that he’s angry and a monster inhabits him. However, this guy is just cruel, manipulative, and downright evil at times. Bella wants her friend back and makes an effort to find the old Callum. And test his limits, many times!

The audio creeped me out even more for the snake scene. I was SO not prepared for that.

This book was fantastic! The audio was just as good. It was so good to get to go back to this world because I really loved their story so much.

Bella and Cal have history but haven’t seen each other in 12 years. Events in their lives bring them back together, and it may be intentionally planned.

There is a lot of dark elements to them and their relationship. They aren’t the same people that each other knew years back and expectations are all over the place.

I was captivated and drawn in instantly. Their story is one you want to know more of and one you want to see where it could go and will go.

I however did not realize this was going to be a duet and be left on a cliffhanger! Rachel Leigh I need book 2 NOW and not wait til Feb!

“Our futures have been carved in stone since before we even met and this is the way it’s meant to be. It was always him. It was always us.”

His Hollow Heart is the first book in the Fallen Kingdom duet and it’s electrifying. Rachel Leigh is a master at dark storytelling and Cal and Bella’s story is no exception. These two forged an unbreakable bond while in an orphanage and promised to always be together, but Bella broke that promise. Now Cal has found her and he’s determined to exact his revenge for her betrayal.

“It’s possible that he was the one meant to fill that emptiness inside of me all along.”

Bella is a bit naïve and doesn’t quite know how to process the situation that she finds herself in. She’s spunky and she doesn’t fit into the mold that Cal has imagined. As cruel as Cal could be, I knew there was a heart beating underneath that had been crushed by Bella’s leaving.

“All I see is her. Around the edges of her sculpted body, everything’s a blur. The sounds I hear, all static.”

The push and pull relationship between this two is captivating. Their story is full of secrets, lies and betrayal, coldness and revenge yet underneath there’s an undercurrent of desire and love. They can’t resist one another no matter how they try. They are soulmates and are the only ones who truly understand the other.

This book ends in a cliffhanger and I don’t know how I’m going to wait until February to find out what happens next.

I also listened to the audio of this story. It's narrated by Alexander Cendese and Elizabeth Russell. Both are new narrators to me and I enjoyed the way they brought embodied Bella and Cal and brought them to life.

I just finished this audiobook and really loved it. The voices are age appropriate and the narrators gave a great performance. His Hollow Heart is a beautifully written, suspenseful and heartbreaking story of betrayal and vengeance. This story was addictive with so many twists and turns. I didn’t want it to end and I was definitely left craving for more. I loved every word and these characters are really special. This story is Rachel Leigh at her finest. A true must read/listen.

His Hallow Heart is the first book in the Fallen Kingdom series. This book is told from dual points of view from Isabella (Bella) and Callum (Cal). Cal and Bella grew up in the same foster home. They promised they would never leave each other and would get adopted together. However, something happens and Bella gets adopted without Cal.

Now years later Bella gets a once-in-a-lifetime job opportunity. She takes it and realizes she's trapped on an island with Cal, who is now her new boss. Cal wants Bella there so he can get his revenge for her leaving. However, she fights every way and doesn't fall to his whims.

Bella wants to know what Cal is hiding. However, the more she struggles, the more he takes revenge on her, and she starts to have feelings for him. Will she find out all of his secrets? Will she get off the island? Will Cal get his revenge?

I loved every minute of this book and all of the twists and turns. There was quite a bit I didn't see coming. I can't wait until the next part comes out!

I trust this author enough that I know longer read the blurbs and for that, I was grateful. Cal and Bella had me from that gut wrenching prologue right to the epilogue. This is a dark romance, filled with heartache, longing, pain, and a little revenge. I feel like there's still so many answers to come and I cannot wait until the second half of this duet comes out. This author knows how to weave a masterful tale and quite frankly this is some of their best work, while I wholly believe HBP will equal it or surpass it. Bella and Callum have a life changing kind of love and I really want them to just be able to breathe. This is intense and I loved every minute.

*AUDIOBOOK. Thank you to NetGalley & Rachel for proving me with a copy, this is my honest review.

TROPES: foster “siblings”, best friends to strangers/enemies to lovers, bad boy damaged past hero, “innocent ish” heroine, bully romance aspects

Audiobook review: overall the audiobook was good. I wasn’t a major fan of the female narrator but she still performed very well! I really liked the male narrator, I felt like he was a true Callum. It was only just shy of 9 hrs I believe so it didn’t take me too too long to get through.

The plot was good, I just wish we would have actually SEEN the play out of when the heroine left & not just a “12 years later” on the next chapter. That was a bummer for me right from the beginning. After those 12 years Cal turned into a broken boy with a black heart & a MAJOR grudge against the heroine. He didn’t forgive her for abandoning him to be with an adoptive family. This book is basically them reuniting & him making her life a living hell while wishing she would fall in love with him. The spice was decent, some special kinks in this one so please check TW pages if you need it. I think this was a good audio to past my time driving but I just didn’t emotionally connect with these two as a couple.

This does end on a cliffhanger for book 2 in the duet.
