Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for this e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I've seen so many great reviews for Frieda McFadden's books, and when I saw this book on NetGalley, I knew I had to request it!! This is my first book I've read by McFadden, and it did not disappoint! I LOVED the drama of this book. Nina and Maggie's characters were really well-developed. Both of them were unreliable characters. I never knew what was going to happen next. I really couldn't put this one down. I read it in one sitting. Such a fun, fast-paced thrilling read! And the ending couldn't have been more perfect. Can't wait to read more from Frieda McFadden!
Highly recommend!

BLOG TOUR REVIEW
Review for 'The Housemaid' by Freida McFadden.
Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Freida McFadden, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous
Publication date 26th April 2022.
This is the first book I have read by this author.
I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching cover and intriguing sounding synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that this book is 'An unbelievably twisty read that will have you glued to the pages late into the night. Anyone who loves The Woman in the Window, The Wife Between Us and The Girl on the Train won’t be able to put this down!' I am a huge fan of 'The Girl On The Train' so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).
This novel consists of a prologue, 61 chapters and an epilogue spread over 3 parts. The chapters are medium to long in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
This book is based in the USA 🇺🇸.
This book is written in first person perspective and the protagonists are Millie Calloway and Nina Winchester. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them. If there are several protagonists you also get to see more of what is going on. The benefits of first person perspective with multiple protagonists are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.
This book is extremely well written with vivid descriptions that really set the scene and kept me on the edge of my seat. The cover and synopsis suited the storyline perfectly.
OMG!!! MIND ABSOLUTELY BLOWN!!!!
Love, LOVE, LOVED this absolute page turner!! It may be the first book I have read by Freida but I can promise you it won't be the last!!! As soon as I've written this up I'm off to add all her books to my wishlist. The storyline is absolutely ram packed with mystery, deceit, secrets, lies, romance, tension, suspense and OMG the twists just kept on coming again and again!!! Just when I thought everything that could happen had happened BOOM there was another shocker around the corner. Every time I kept telling myself one more chapter the one I was in ended at a point where there was no way I could stop reading so I absolutely devoured it in one sitting!! I WAS absolutely blown away and considering I read approximately 30 books a month that is certainly no easy feat so a HUGE congratulations on that Freya. I really could not recommend this book any more. If you are looking for something unique, filled with suspense and that will blow your mind then this is definitely the book for you!!
It is set over/includes multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture.
DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT READING THIS UNTIL YOU HAVE CLEARED YOUR SCHEDULES AS YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PUT IT DOWN!!!
I wasn't just 100% invested in the storyline but also in the characters. The every one of the characters were well defined, realistic and strong. Unfortunately I am not going to be able to say much at all about them as I don't want to run the risk of giving anything away. Needless to say they all worked perfectly together to make this page turner as amazing as it is!!!
A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Freida on what promises to be a massive best seller!!! I WAS absolutely shocked by so many events but OMG what was said by a certain person at a certain event was absolutely shocking!!! I can't say anything else but when you've read it you'll know!!! Welcome to my favourite author list Freida and here's to your next explosive success 🥂!!!
Overall an absolutely addictive, mind blowing page turner that will keep you up with a racing heart until you've finished!!!
Genres covered in this book include Thriller, Psychological Fiction, Suspense Thriller, Domestic Fiction, Psychological Thriller, Domestic Thriller and Mystery amongst others.
I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of 'The Girl on the Train', 'The Woman in the Window', 'The Wife Between Us', 'Gone Girl'. And anyone and everyone who is looking for a mind blowing page turner!!

This book is just £1.99 to purchase on kindle via Amazon or free on kindle unlimited (at time of review) which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Thank you Netgalley for this audio edition of The Housemaid by Freida McFadden.
First off, the narrator was great. She was great with the accents and inflections, kept me very enthralled with the story without overdoing it.
Millie is desperate for a job, as an ex-con, living in her car and eating the same sandwich everyday, anything seems better than what she's got. So when Nina Winchester gives her a chance to be their new maid/cook/nanny, Millie is absolutely elated. Their home and life is grand and Millie gets to enjoy living there and being a part of that. But within a matter of hours of starting her new job, Nina Winchester quickly proves herself to be very difficult to work for. It seems like Millie can't do a single thing right, to the point that she feels set up to fail.
But the saving Grace is Nina's husband Andrew, a gentle and doting man, dedicated to his wife and family, as well as keeping the peace between Nina and Millie. But it does not go unnoticed that Andrew is also incredibly handsome, and so kind to Millie, who hasn't experienced kindness in a long while. But getting involved with Nina's wife could not just be morally wrong, but dangerous too...
I have a lot of mixed feelings about how to review this. Is it incredibly formulaic and done already? Yes. Is it totally overcooked and unbelievable? Yes. Is is also SO easy to dive right into and devour in a single bite? YES. So, take that as you will. It's incredibly readable, fast paced and wickedly fun. I think the moral of this particular review is, who cares about believability, when it makes sitting on the beach so much more fun.

Great read! This domestic thriller kept me fully engaged from start to finish, I don't give it the full 5 starts only because for me it was a little too soap opera. The characters are a little to out of it.

This was such a fun and entertaining read … I loved it! I spent a lot of the beginning of the book being annoyed with “the housemaid”, but I was completely shocked when this book took a huge turn for the better.
Millie is a young, desperate girl, fresh out of prison and living in her car. Trying to find a job when you are homeless and have a criminal record isn’t easy, but when she sees that a wealthy household is looking for a maid/nanny, she decides to give it a try. To her surprise, she gets the job that comes with a generous salary and even a place to live - her own room in the attic.
The lady of the house, Nina, seems to have some issues. She’s kind one minute, a bit (okay, a lot) crazy the next, and Millie has no idea what Nina’s handsome husband is doing with her. This is clearly a woman who has issues. Still, the pay is good, she has a roof over her head and she’s slowly becoming attracted to Nina’s husband, Andy. (Rule one: never get attracted to your boss’s husband!)
As I was starting to get annoyed at Millie’s stupidity, the book TOTALLY CHANGED. I can’t and won’t say how, but that change took this from a four-star book, to a 4.5 rounded up to a five. The very creative way this was written and the way it all played out made this a fantastic read, as I found my jaw dropping again and again. By the end I was laughing, in the way only a true thriller fan can understand. Highly recommended as a quick and very entertaining book, this is one I’d happily read again.
(Thank you to Bookouture, Freida McFadden, and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review.)

Oh my gosh! I could not put this down! What an absolutely wild ride that left me absolutely stunned!
Fast paced, twists and turns, and so binge worthy! All things I love when reading a thriller.

Millie has been to prison and is on parole. She needs a job. When a job for a Housemaid comes up with a great salary and board she jumps at the chance. Nina lives with her husband Andrew and daughter Cece and need a maid to clean, cook and look after Cece. The only problem, the house has dark secrets.
The book has a great twist in it, it’s a page-turner and quick paced. It’s written in two parts and you read more into the story in part 2. Really enjoyed it and loved the plot.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy.

Well... this started off good but just went downhill from there. The beginning was alright. It wasn't anything mind-blowing. It was just alright. It pushed the right buttons and I thought the story would just go on to be another mediocre thriller, but it just got worse. The story was so linear and the twists really didn't surprise me. The writing was childish. Some of the twists made me cringe. I feel like a lot of it was forced. Maybe it would have been better if it had been fleshed out a little and if the plot holes were filled. I'm just not happy after reading that.

I have heard so many great things about this and it did not disappoint!! Will definitely recommend this book to friends.

Wow! It's been a minute since I've encountered a story that had me this hooked! Completely unputdownable with some surprises, although some were predictable, some were not. Loved the ending! Well worth your time.

I really enjoyed this book! This one sets up from the beginning with so many twists and turns!
Millie gets hired to be a live in housemaid for the Winchester family. This family seems like they have it all but they have some really dark secrets hiding behind closed doors. Nina comes off as a crazy housewife and her husband Andrew as the money making family man, but everything is not what it seems.
So many unbelievable jaw dropping twists and I LOVED the ending! Highly recommend this book. This was my first book from this author but it will most definitely not be my last.

What a ride! This was the perfect amount of intrigue and mystery that kept my emotions on a rollercoaster ride. I felt angry, happy sad and everything in between. This is very similar to another book (I won't say which because I think it's a spoiler to know going in) but I actually preferred this version and wish Reese Witherspoon would have chosen this as a pick instead. I will be recommending this to all my mystery loving friends and family as a must read!

This book almost gave me whiplash midway through with turns I wasn’t expecting! I didn’t know what was going on. Then the very end held another twisty surprise! #FreidaMcFadden knows how to write a #thriller!!

This author has been on my radar for quite se time. And I am addicted. I must read them all.
Millie is living out of her car when she spots the ad for a live in maid with the Winchesters.
They don't know much about Millie, blind trust allowing her to move in and care for their home.
Millie doesn't know much about Nina either.
Get ready to grip this book, fail to do anything except get cozy and consume this thriller.

A absolute cracker of a thriller! I was riveted. All books should have you asking “What just happened here?” In the best way possible! The next book I read will be hard to beat! Bravo!

4 Becareful What You Wish For Stars
* * * * Spoiler Free
Oh, this was fun, especially the second half. The blurb sets everything up. a woman desperate for a job and an employer who decides to hire her.
Are there hidden reasons for the hire??? Is The Family full of secrets...well, this is so nuts, you can't stop reading it.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC. Hold on to your seats!!! Millie has been living in her car and desperately trying to find a job when a dream job falls into her lap. She interviews for a housekeeper/nanny position that also comes with living quarters. After a few days on the job, something isn't adding up in the household. The dad is too good to be true, handsome and rich and the mom is off her rocker accusing Millie of several things that don't make sense. This book was released yesterday and is available on Amazon Kindle for $3.99. Buy it, read it! #TheHousemaid #FreidaMcFadden #Apr2022 #Bookourture

I used to read thrillers regularly but stopped for a while as I was struggling to find something different, that wasn’t predictable or cliche. When I saw the blurb for this book, I was intrigued so thought I’d step back into a thriller for a change. The Housemaid pretty much hit the spot. I was gripped by the storyline, I found myself staying up late to keep reading ‘one more chapter’. I wasn’t far off guessing the twist but I didn’t get it completely and I liked the way the book switched perspective in the later stages. This was a clever plot and I am pretty much satisfied with how it played out. My only criticisms would be that at times, the writing felt a little clunky and I wasn’t massively enamoured with Millie as a character. I’m still not 100% sure how the author was trying to portray her. Misunderstood or unstable? I was frustrated that she kept doing things that she knew would get her into trouble and I don’t think Nina’s behaviour really justified what she did. Overall though, this didn’t detract so much from the book that I didn’t enjoy it and I flew through it pretty quickly. A solid 4 stars for me.

I loved this one!
This is definitely a book that I recommend you should know as little as possible about it going in. Don’t go read a bunch of reviews, so nothing is spoiled.
It’s about Millie, who is down on her luck, desperately needing a job. She lands one, working for Nina in a gorgeous mansion, as the maid…..
That’s all you need to know, trust me!
It is SO good! You do NOT want to miss it!
I alternated reading and audio for this one. I really loved the audio - the narrator is excellent!

Dark, twisted, and totally addictive! This was the first book that I've read by Freida and I really enjoyed it. The storyline was dark and twisted and the characters really pulled me in. The narrator for the Audiobook also did an excellent job! 5 stars.
