The Housemaid by Freida McFadden was a wild ride! I really enjoyed this one too!

Millie just got fired from her job and desperately needs work. The trouble is, she is a convict and most people won’t hire her based on her past. So when she is hired by Nina Winchester, to be a housekeeper, she cannot believe her luck. Nina is so kind and the house is beautiful. Millie even gets a room there. It’s not much but it’s better than sleeping in her car. Nina even furnishes Millie was her own cell phone. And bonus, Nina’s very handsome husband Andy isn’t so bad to work for either.

But soon things start going very wrong. Nina runs hot and cold, Millie is never sure what version of Nina she’s going to get. Nina starts accusing her of things, giving Millie wrong dates, and generally starts acting crazy.

Millie is afraid to leave because who will hire her and where will she live? Nina does have a history of mental illness, so Millie tries to cope as best she can. She grows closer to Nina’s husband Andy, an ally for Millie within the walls of the Winchester home.

“Welcome to the family,” Nina Winchester says as I shake her elegant, manicured hand. I smile politely, gazing around the marble hallway. Working here is my last chance to start fresh. I can pretend to be whoever I like. But I’ll soon learn that the Winchesters’ secrets are far more dangerous than my own…

Every day I clean the Winchesters’ beautiful house top to bottom. I collect their daughter from school. And I cook a delicious meal for the whole family before heading up to eat alone in my tiny room on the top floor.

I try to ignore how Nina makes a mess just to watch me clean it up. How she tells strange lies about her own daughter. And how her husband Andrew seems more broken every day. But as I look into Andrew’s handsome brown eyes, so full of pain, it’s hard not to imagine what it would be like to live Nina’s life. The walk-in closet, the fancy car, the perfect husband.

I only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out… and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it’s far too late.

But I reassure myself: the Winchesters don’t know who I really am.

They don’t know what I’m capable of…

This is told from the POV of Nina and Millie. There were twists and turns and things I did not expect, an entertaining book, coming out on April 26.

This book is about a girl named Millie who takes a job as a maid out of desperation. What she thought would be and easy job of cleaning up after a rich but lazy woman turns out to be anything but easy. The twists in this book * immaculate

HOlY MOTHER OF GOD !!! Nail biting, heading banging story. Nina, Andy and Millie are one heck of a trio. The author really can tell an epic story. Fast paced with so many details. Loved it.
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC and the chance to read and review.

I seem to be very much in the minority judging by the reviews I’ve read but if this is supposed to be the best book I read this year I’ll be very disappointed.
The premise of the story was good, it was also fast paced and it kept my interest. However, I found the writing style a bit basic, I could guess the twists a mile off and it all got a little too unbelievable for my liking.
This is my first Freida McFadden book, maybe I’ll like her other ones more or maybe this author just isn’t for me. I have a kindle full of her books though so I’ll definitely give them a chance.

I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The story was able to grab me from the beginning. I thought Milly how she lived in the car, of how she tried to conceive her prisoned past, and her desperateness to keep her job, paired up with Nina's craziness made a really fun, twisty plot.

Some of the actions of the characters, Andrew, Nina and Ceceila's were downward ridiculous, the plotline was so far beyond reasonableness, and the female characters all acted quite foolish.

The story reminded me of The Last Mrs. Parrish and The Wife Between Us, I still enjoyed it nevertheless.

I was given an E-Arc by Bookouture and Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. Thank you Bookouture Publishing for approving me for this E-Arc!

"The Housemaid" by Freida McFadden is a fast-paced, easy to get through thriller (I haven't finished a book in the span of 1 day in AGES), that really had me gripped into wanting to know what was going to happen next each chapter! We're following the story of Millie, an ex-con looking for a well-paying job, as she interviews for a housemaid position. She quickly figures out that there's more to the Winchester family than meets the eye, that's for sure. The chapters are short and get to the point, leaving me hanging and causing me to sit and read for over 2 hours without even realizing it!
At first I thought this concept would be typical and that I would be able to predict all of the twists, but I ended up being more taken off guard than I would have expected and I really enjoyed learning what the truth was by the end of the book. I feel the author did a good job of not allowing the story to be too predictable. The writing style is fast paced and simple, but I feel this is what made it easy and fun to get through as a whole. One thing I did wish to feel a bit more of towards the end is a deeper understanding of each character and their backstories/personalities. I did really like how there were multiple POVs in this book in order to try and accomplish some of that. All in all however, this was quite an exciting read for me, if you're looking for something super entertaining and a bit tense and twisty I definitely recommend "The Housemaid"!

Wow. Just wow. This book is just mind blowingly brilliant and i knew it was going to be a good one just from the book's blurb alone. It's been a long time since I've been so absorbed in a book that has put me through such a range of emotions! Millie is an ex con who finds employment as a maid to housewife Nina and her attractive husband. Nina unfortunately is quite 'unhinged' and Millie gets stuck in the wrath of it whilst feeling uttermost sympathy for the long suffering husband.
There's not much I want to say about the storyline without giving anything away but truly nothing is how it seems. This is a unique, clever and jaw dropping book that has become one of my top reads. I'm still processing the book and the whiplash I got from my head spinning so quickly as the storyline progressed. I genuinely loved this book and the remarkable plot line!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of The Housemaid by Freida McFadden. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for providing an ARC to review.

Milly is an out of luck girl looking for any job she can find. Living in her car, she hits rock bottom when Nina Winchester hires her as the new maid. What follows is a twisty suspenseful joy of a novel.

I went into this book expecting twists, thinking that I had already guessed where the story was going. Boy, was I wrong. Time and time again, The Housemaid hooked me with the first chapter. And before I knew it, I had stayed up late till I read the last page. I could not put this book down until I read the conclusion. Milly and Nina were complex characters whose hidden personalities slowly peeled away to reveal a complex center. I give this book an enthusiastic five stars and will be recommending it to all my friends.

I don’t even know where to begin with this.

The best thing about it, are small easy to read fast paced chapters.
Untimely it’s the only reason I kept reading.

Other than that nothing else really work.
It’s a story that entirely relies on the stupidity of the characters and it reads like a children’s book.
Some parts are extremely repetitive, like word for word repetitive and some things don’t even make any sense. (Like Cecelia’s behavior)
The "scariest" thing that happens in this "psychological thriller" is Enzo’s description in the first chapter. I legitimately got Get Out vibes and was only let down after that.

2/5 is a generous rating for this book and I only gave it that because it was an extremely fast read but not worthwhile overall.

Thank you Netgalley and Bookture for the digital ARC.

For fans of Shari Lapena and Mary Kubica, this domestic thriller, full of buried secrets and false assumptions, will keep you guessing until the very end. I wouldn't say the writing itself is incredible but the narrative plays out well & the pacing felt just right. It could have been edited down to be a bit shorter without missing anything important, but all told, this is an entertaining read with a satisfying finish.

Another one for the list of books I have read in one sitting…. Starting this at 9.30pm was a silly idea as I was hooked from the first page - I did not stop until I finished it.

This book was gripping, well written and full of twists. I absolutely loved the way the ending just kept on giving - every time I thought the author was done, there would be another little gem.

Whilst, there are times that I enjoy a high body count or a wide cast, the author proved that we don’t need bells and whistles. A brilliantly written story just needs a great plot, meaningful twists, and a few great characters. Frieda McFadden nailed it.

How did this book make me feel? Exhilarated when reading, satisfied with the ending, and excited to have found a new author with so many books waiting for me to enjoy!

Well. Didn't see the end coming. The dangers of judging someone by appearance. Millie needs a job. Unfortunately, she has a prison record. She finds a great house maid position. Live in! No more living out of car! Her employer seems a little off. But the husband is perfect. Her room is left than perfect, but its ok. The gardener is handsome. This could work out.
Thanks NetGalley and Frieda McFadden for an exciting read.

The Housemaid by Frida McFadden was everything you look for in a suspense novel: a hired maid with a sinister past, the possibly nuts wife/employer, her too good to be true husband, a bratty daughter, whispering neighbors, you know the usual suspects.

So you think you know what’s coming with these characters- until you don’t know. It had a great twist and I devoured the book and stayed up way past my bedtime to finish. If you are a Frida McFadden fan you definitely need to read this one.

The Housemaid

5/5 Stars

Wow, this book drew me in from the start and never let up. Millie Calloway is a recently released convict. She’s desperate for a job and surprisingly gets hired as a housekeeper for a wealthy family. It seems like a dream job, or at least better than sleeping in her car.

This is a fast-paced, twisty read. My favorite kind! The ending makes me wish for a sequel.

Thanks to Freida McFadden, NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!

Oh. My. Gosh. Let me start of by saying, I did not expect to love this book as much as I did. From the first chapter, I was hooked. The book reminded me very much of Colleen Hoover’s “Verity”. The entire time, I was on the edge of my seat. It’s not often that I am actually baffled by a Mystery, but I honestly couldn’t predict what would happen next. I’m not going to post any spoilers because I believe you should go into this book blind in order to appreciate it. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. I never give 5-star ratings, but this book’s rating was well deserved.

Millie has been sleeping in her car; recently released from a ten-year prison sentence. She lands an interview with the extremely wealthy Mrs. Nina Winchester. The position- Millie’s DREAM JOB, a live-in housemaid for the Winchester family. All the while thinking she would never land such an amazing gig. Surely, any first impression or gut instinct Mrs. Winchester may have gotten from her would quickly be erased once Nina received the results from the background check Millie was certain Nina would run.
Heck, she was turned down for a position flipping burgers!
No doubt, inviting a stranger to live in Nina's home, consisting of Nina, her husband Andrew, and the couple's nine-year-old daughter, Cecelia, let alone the too good to be true compensation that came along with the job, Millie was out of her league.
Right? Wrong.
Millie’s dream comes true, but immediately red flags arise, Nina is not the woman she appears to be. Why does she seem to have multiple personalities? Why does Nina seem to be TRYING to set Millie up for failure? And what is with Andrew and Nina's marriage?! Why is Andrew so much better looking than his wife? Is he really as in love with her as he seems to be? And what in the heck is with the hot, Spanish speaking gardener that seems to be warning Millie with his black eyes?!
Millie finds herself falling for Mr. Andrew Winchester. Clearly, Nina Winchester is mentally unstable.
What is with this place? These people? Her room that gives Millie that uneasy feeling.

IS ANYTHING WHAT IT SEEMS?!

From beginning to end you will find yourself unable to stop turning each page in anticipation. I could have read this in one sitting if my life permitted. If you are a fan of the Mystery/Thriller genre, this is a MUST READ!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Get this book when it releases on April 26th! You will not regret it!

“Welcome to the family,” Millie moves into an opulent home for her dream job after living in her car for weeks. A small room, a lovely kitchen, all Millie has to do is keep house and cook a few meals. Very quickly, she finds that her boss Nina is a tyrant and potentially unbalances. She isn't sure what to do or when to do it, but she knows she has to keep this job. Before long, things come to a head and secrets are revealed. This is a twisty domestic thriller. Only a few characters and a bit of unreliable narration bring you a thriller that you will not guess the ending to.
Now some of the circumstances require suspended belief, but I loved every minute of it, especially the end! If you like girl gone wrong, twisty thrillers or suspicious mysteries then #TheHousemaid is for you!

Twisty and dark with a bombshell ending is how I would describe this page turner. Wilhelmina "Millie" Calloway had spend some time in prison and was having a hard time hanging onto a job. She applied for a job as a housekeeper/cook for the wealthy Winchesters, Nina and Andy along with young daughter Cecelia. A week or so later, Millie got the job offer from Nina. When Millie showed up for work the next morning, Nina's persona had totally changed and the house was a total disaster. Handsome Andy seems to be madly in love with overweight Nina with her dark roots and Cecelia is a total brat. This book grabbed from the very start and I could not put it down.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this spellbinding book that I absolutely loved.
