Oh. My. Gosh. Let me start of by saying, I did not expect to love this book as much as I did. From the first chapter, I was hooked. The book reminded me very much of Colleen Hoover’s “Verity”. The entire time, I was on the edge of my seat. It’s not often that I am actually baffled by a Mystery, but I honestly couldn’t predict what would happen next. I’m not going to post any spoilers because I believe you should go into this book blind in order to appreciate it. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. I never give 5-star ratings, but this book’s rating was well deserved.

Millie has been sleeping in her car; recently released from a ten-year prison sentence. She lands an interview with the extremely wealthy Mrs. Nina Winchester. The position- Millie’s DREAM JOB, a live-in housemaid for the Winchester family. All the while thinking she would never land such an amazing gig. Surely, any first impression or gut instinct Mrs. Winchester may have gotten from her would quickly be erased once Nina received the results from the background check Millie was certain Nina would run.
Heck, she was turned down for a position flipping burgers!
No doubt, inviting a stranger to live in Nina's home, consisting of Nina, her husband Andrew, and the couple's nine-year-old daughter, Cecelia, let alone the too good to be true compensation that came along with the job, Millie was out of her league.
Right? Wrong.
Millie’s dream comes true, but immediately red flags arise, Nina is not the woman she appears to be. Why does she seem to have multiple personalities? Why does Nina seem to be TRYING to set Millie up for failure? And what is with Andrew and Nina's marriage?! Why is Andrew so much better looking than his wife? Is he really as in love with her as he seems to be? And what in the heck is with the hot, Spanish speaking gardener that seems to be warning Millie with his black eyes?!
Millie finds herself falling for Mr. Andrew Winchester. Clearly, Nina Winchester is mentally unstable.
What is with this place? These people? Her room that gives Millie that uneasy feeling.

IS ANYTHING WHAT IT SEEMS?!

From beginning to end you will find yourself unable to stop turning each page in anticipation. I could have read this in one sitting if my life permitted. If you are a fan of the Mystery/Thriller genre, this is a MUST READ!

“Welcome to the family,” Millie moves into an opulent home for her dream job after living in her car for weeks. A small room, a lovely kitchen, all Millie has to do is keep house and cook a few meals. Very quickly, she finds that her boss Nina is a tyrant and potentially unbalances. She isn't sure what to do or when to do it, but she knows she has to keep this job. Before long, things come to a head and secrets are revealed. This is a twisty domestic thriller. Only a few characters and a bit of unreliable narration bring you a thriller that you will not guess the ending to.
Now some of the circumstances require suspended belief, but I loved every minute of it, especially the end! If you like girl gone wrong, twisty thrillers or suspicious mysteries then #TheHousemaid is for you!

Twisty and dark with a bombshell ending is how I would describe this page turner. Wilhelmina "Millie" Calloway had spend some time in prison and was having a hard time hanging onto a job. She applied for a job as a housekeeper/cook for the wealthy Winchesters, Nina and Andy along with young daughter Cecelia. A week or so later, Millie got the job offer from Nina. When Millie showed up for work the next morning, Nina's persona had totally changed and the house was a total disaster. Handsome Andy seems to be madly in love with overweight Nina with her dark roots and Cecelia is a total brat. This book grabbed from the very start and I could not put it down.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this spellbinding book that I absolutely loved.

THE HOUSEMAID is a psychological thriller by bestselling author Freida McFadden. Millie desperately responds to an online ad for a housekeeper job, after being released from ten years in prison and now living in her car. She soon gets called in for an interview by Nina Winchester, the incredibly wealthy wife in a large mansion. Millie tells her she has lots of experience doing housework and loves kids and pets. But Millie had a record, and she assumed Nina would check references.

Nina offers her the job, as a live-in position as a housemaid, for Nina, her husband Andy and her daughter, to clean, cook and collect their nine-year-old daughter “spoiled brat”, Cecelia from school.

Every day Millie cleans the Winchesters’ beautiful house top to bottom. She collects their daughter from school. Millie cooks a delicious meal for the whole family before heading up to eat alone in her tiny room on the top floor.

But this is not an easy family to deal with. Nina who suffers from mood swings gives Millie a hard time by leaving a mess all over the house for Millie to clean up. Nothing is good enough for her, and blames Millie for everything. Cecelia (Ceecee) is a spoiled brat with no manners, and only Andrew seems to be relatively normal. Millie tries really hard to keep her head down and get the work done. She needs this job… but there is more happening in the background than she is aware of.

The first half of the book is told from Millie’s POV while the second half is narrated by the woman of the house, Nina. This was a fast-paced novel, with strong plot and engaging characters, a suspenseful read that will have you glued to the pages late into the night.

Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and Net Galley for my digital copy. I will be looking out for more books by this author.

Millie has taken a job working for bat shit crazy Nina and her seemingly ordinary husband, Andrew. They have one daughter Cecilia, who will also be a nanny too.
Millie has a deep dark past that’s told very slowly throughout the book. But Nina makes Millie’s life hell at work. Daily, she twists and turns tasks to make her seem like she’s the crazy one. Sending her to run errands that aren’t needed, picking her daughter up when it’s not required, Ceecee is right in it and making her life miserable. But Millie falls for the boss's husband, and he falls back. And you think these two will run off in the sunset and end scene
Cut to Part 2 of the book. And then you learn Nina isn’t as crazy as you thought she was. And Millie isn’t what you thought either. And Andrew is just a …. Well, read this book. It’s so dark and twisty and well thought out that once these pages started turning, I couldn’t put it down.

Wowwwww! Let me start off by saying this book really blew me away. I was so intrigued through each sentence and word on each page. The main character was very intense and I loved how the characters each had their own uniqueness. Excellent writing!

The Housemaid is the latest novel by Freida McFadden. Saying this story is "jaw-dropping" is putting it mildly. McFadden starts off by giving the reader a good read then the twist begins and it is almost impossible to put the book down. I was awake well past my bedtime to finish it.....then I couldn't go to sleep because I was still thinking about it! I want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an early copy to review.

This was my first Freda McFadden book, I am ALL in for more. This book started out very fast paced and kept me wanting more . It's a page turner. I read 80% in the first day and still wanted more but I wanted to SAVE it and make it last. This book is cleverly written and will keep you guessing with each page. The characters were ones you wanted to love and then hate and then love again. I loved this book SO much! Bravo Freda . Easily a 5 STAR read from me!

Thriller of a story with more than one unexpected twist. I approve. A good quick read that leaves you wanting more from the characters, but the pace and interest that carries you through the tale makes up for it.

Book: The Housemaid
Author: Freida McFadden
Publisher: Bookouture
Pub Date: April 26, 2022

I can tell when reading the prologue if I am going to love a book or not…and I knew immediately that I was going to love this book. What a ride! I couldn’t put it down! I connected to all the characters and quickly became invested into each one of them. Have I read books similar? Yes, I have but that didn’t take anything away from this book at all. Was it somewhat predictable? Yes, I think it was just because I had read similar books. But again, there are still parts you don’t see coming and it doesn’t take away from a great story being developed. The book is told from alternating points of view and by the time you get to the second part you begin to see just how twisted this book is. This is the first book I have read by Freida McFadden and I will definitely be reading more. I appreciate easy-to-read fast paced books and this kept me wanting more. I finished it in two days because well….ya know….I had to go to work. (Work is so over-rated.) But seriously if I could have sat and finished it, I would have totally done it in one sitting. I highly recommend this book. You won’t be disappointed.

Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for allowing me this sneak peek! Do not miss reading this book!!

This book is a winner! I highly enjoyed this book. It was compelling from the start and I couldn’t wait to find out how it ended. I really liked the characters and the setting.

I enjoyed this twisty read, centered on Millie, who gets a job as a maid for a rich family after getting out of prison. The first half of the book is told from Millie’s POV while the second half is narrated by the woman of the house, Nina.

Millie enters in a situation that seems too good to be true, and it turns out it is when Nina regularly gaslights her. We know we have a potential unreliable narrator on our hands, though, since we don’t initially know the extent of Millie’s crimes. I enjoyed being in Millie’s head and found her inner monologue endearing. Though I knew there must be more to the story, the twist (which I initially thought would be a bit predictable) contained a few surprises, and I liked that the end didn’t turn out the way I expected.

I enjoy books by this author and this is no exception- I found it to be fast paced and enjoyable with some great surprises. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

The Housemaid by Freida McFadden is a twist-filled thriller that will appeal to fans of B.A. Paris and Ruth Ware. The story revolves around Millie, who has just been hired as the rich Winchester family's housemaid. Nina Winchester is a Devil-Wears-Prada-type boss who blames Millie for all sorts of things. Meanwhile, her handsome husband Andrew has to put up with Nina's mood swings. But what dangerous secrets is this couple keeping?

Here is a chilling excerpt from the Prologue:

"If I leave this house, it will be in handcuffs.
I should have run for it while I had the chance. Now my shot is gone. Now that the police officers are in the house and they've discovered what's upstairs, there's no turning back.
They are about five seconds away from reading me my rights. I'm not sure why they haven't done it yet. Maybe they're hoping to trick me into telling them something I shouldn't.
Good luck with that."

Overall, The Housemaid is an unputdownable thriller with a twist you'll never see coming. One highlight of this book is how different the two perspectives are. During Part 1, there was plenty of humor and romance. There were some lines that made me laugh out loud, and I wasn't sure I was reading a thriller. Then, Part 2 gets really intense and sadistic, and it was a complete tonal shift. If you're intrigued by the excerpt above, or if you're a fan of psychological thrillers, I highly recommend that you check out this book when it comes out in April!

SWOOOON!!!! What an absolute DELIGHT in the most devilish way! I love when the twist is so delectable! I was enamored with this one from the very start. The edge of your seat stomach clenched what is going to happen reeling moments was IT! I couldn’t stop reading it until I finished and it was *clap clap clap* fantastic!!

Millie is desperate for a new life and a job. She has had it bad in the past and she needs something to bring her up. Enter Nina and Andrew who are beyond wealthy and need a new housemaid. Bingo she gets the job and is ready to work hard! Slowly she realizes this might have been a mistake of course. Nina seems crazy and demanding and Millie’s room is in the attic that only locks from the outside. Hmmm that can never be good. But never underestimate the power of Millie and her desire to do what needs to be done.

Absolutely highly recommend this one! Freida McFadden was brilliant and quick and never lagged. Mark this as a must read this year!

Thank you Bookouture and netgalley for the arc in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you to the publisher and the author for providing me with an advanced copy of Freida McFadden’s The Housemaid. All opinions and views are my own.

This story is about Millie, a young woman who is trying to start her life over at the bottom. When we first meet her, Millie is homeless, having left her last job under less than favorable circumstances, and is living in her car. She has no real work history and can’t pass a background check, so when she interviews with Nina, a ridiculously wealthy housewife in need of a live in maid, she knows she’s probably not going to get the job. To her surprise, she gets the job.

Unfortunately for Millie, all is not how it seems on the surface in the lives of Nina and her handsome, charming husband Andrew and their cute but difficult young daughter. Nina is challenging to work for, and Millie is constantly on her toes trying to please the family. Plus, her little room in the attic gives her a bad feeling, but she doesn’t know why. What is going on here, and can Millie figure it out in time?

I started this book today and already sped through it. It was a compelling read, and I found the ending empowering and very satisfying. I enjoyed how all the puzzle pieces came together. I will definitely read McFadden’s next book with pleasure. Highly recommended.
