Working for the wealthy Nina Winchester sounds like the dream job. Working as a live-in maid with your own room in a beautiful house and a big paycheck? Millie, desperate for a new start, is thankful for the new job. She soon finds out that there's something really wrong with Nina, though. Eager to please to keep her new job, Millie puts up with Nina's deliberate antics. As time progresses, Millie makes a mistake that she is sure to regret... Unfortunately, it is way worse than she ever could've imagined.
I am writing a short review to avoid giving any spoilers. I am so pleased to say that this thriller was super fun to read! After quite a few flops in the thriller genre, I enjoyed this well-paced and addicting book. I thought I knew what the twist was a few times, but I didn't suspect the correct one until much after halfway through the book. I enjoyed the characters and twists. Author Freida McFadden wrote a wonderful thriller that would make an excellent movie!
Millie is pleased to get a job working for Nina Winchester, not only will she get a good salary, but she will also get somewhere to live - which she badly needs. Things quickly turn strange, however, as Nina's mood swings, lies and untidy behaviour cause Millie to question things, as does the little room in the attic with the lock on the outside of the door... however she really needs this job. She begins to feel sorry for Nina's husband Andrew, and wonders what it would be like to be with someone so handsome, charming and rich. But could Millie be in danger working for the Winchesters?
Wow! I loved this book, one of the best I've read in a long time. It is so well written and engaging, and the plot is thrilling, spooky and exciting. I couldn't stop turning the pages until I had finished the shocking story. Brilliant! Full of suspense, twists and turns, secrets and shocks, this is very much recommended.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of the book in return for my honest feedback.
Wow wow wow! What a ride. Loved the twists and the ending was perfect. Freida McFadden delivers an unputdownable thriller yet again! This is my 2nd of her books and now I know for certain she is one of my favorite authors and I will be binge reading all of her other novels! Can’t recommend this book enough!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this ARC! This one will be memorable for sure!
Millie Calloway is living in her car. She is thankful for getting the opportunity to work for the extremely well-to-do Winchester family as their live-in maid. Nina Winchester (the lady of the house) is very temperamental, but Millie needs the job so she ignores Nina's extremely childish behavior. Nina's handsome husband Andrew is very tolerant of her tantrums, but deep down Millie can see his unhappiness and pain. Millie can't help but dream about what it would be like to have a life with fancy things and a devoted attractive husband like Andrew.
If you have not read a Freida McFadden book, then it's time! She is a fantastic author! She is on my "must read list" for every new book she publishes. Her writing is amazing because one never knows when she is going to hit you with a huge plot twist. In case you can't tell, I really love this book and highly recommend it!
The Housemaid is the first book that I have read by Frieda McFadden. It will not be my last. The Housemaid has me on the edge of my seat with a tightly woven plot that had me guessing what might happen next, only to have the story take twist after twist. The suspense is intense. It is well written and fast moving. I didn’t want to put the book down. Frieda McFadden knows how to write a unique thriller. It left me wanting more from this author.
Millie starts to work for affluent and powerful Winchester family. Family of perfect husband Andrew, wife Nina with wildly unpredictable moods and young Cecelia, little brat, who clearly resents Millie's presence here.
Sometimes it feels like Nina has a split personality. She flips from hot to cold so rapidly. She claims she was joking, but Millie is not so sure. It doesn’t matter, though. Millie has no other prospects and this job is a blessing. She’s going to make it work. No matter what.
Is Nina more than just an eccentric and demanding boss? Is there something else going on with her? And nobody could possibly be as perfect as Andy Winchester. And why is the gardener Enzo so alarmed?
So many secrets! Nothing is as it seems.
This book is unputdownable, I've read it in one evening and enjoyed every moment. Pure emotional roller-coaster, dark and twisty with fascinating characters.
Highly recommended!

Millie is living in her car until she gets a job working as a housemaid for the Winchesters, Nina and Andrew. From cleaning the house top to bottom, looking after their daughter and cooking up meals for them before heading up to the tiny room upstairs. A room that shares many secrets..
As time goes on, Millie starts to see how crazy Nina really is and she can see how her husband isn't into Nina anymore. Millie starts to day dream what it would be like have a fancy house and a handsome husband like Andrew.
But Millie has her own secrets she can't let them find out before things start to heat up in the house and it's too late for Millie to run..

•Wow 🤯
•I had a feeling this book would be a page turner and it definitely didn't dissapoint.
•It was hard to put this one down, wondering what will happen next? And it only got better by each chapter.
•It's full of suspense, mystery and twists. Not just one twist but alot more i didn't see coming.
•A few cringe worthy moments, IYKYK
•The characters gave me a roller-coaster of feelings. One minute I'm loving them to despising them. For a moment I did feel like this certain character was too good to be true and turns out, he/she was shady.
Overall a dark, twisted and eventful read. Full of twists and no doubt you will finish this one within 3 days! First book I've from Freida McFadden and I will be picking up another one of hers. I'm a sucker for thriller and this ticked the boxes ✔

The Housemaid by Freida McFadden

Homeless Millie is in desperate need of a job & bed and Nina is a rich wife to handsome Andrew & a mom who wants some help so this sounds like a perfect match. Careful what you wish for Millie…..
“I’d say there’s at least a 25% chance she’s going to murder me in my sleep if I get this job. But I still want it.”
Holy guacamole! I loved Millie’s thoughts and humor throughout the book, she had me rolling from the beginning. Nothing is as it seems in this fast paced, what in the world is going on in this crazy house, book 🤣
Thank you so much NetGalley and Bookouture for this Advanced Readers Copy!
I absolutely love all the books by Freida McFadden. This book is told by two POVs- Nina and Millie. I love when there is two POVs.
A crazy, wealthy wife and a newly out from prison woman who is now their made makes for two great characters. Just when you think you knew what was going to happen, the plot changes.
I never would have guessed the ending, and I highly recommend this book!
This book was amazeballs!!!! Initially, I thought oh not another nanny book but then? THEN!!! I’m saying nothing else but read this! Just read this! Oh and now I need to find all of the other books by this author! ❤️❤️❤️
The Housemaid is a gripping, can't-put-down, read-in-one-sitting thriller! The book is full of twists and shocking reveals. I haven't read any books by Freida McFadden before, but I will for sure be reading some more in the near future! For The Housemaid, in providing even a brief plot summary, I'd be afraid of revealing something and possibly ruining one of the excellently written twists. Therefore, I'm just going to say that I highly recommend this book and give it an easy 5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced readers copy in exchange for my honest review.
This started out a little Turn of the Key but it went in a different direction and was more exciting. First we get Millie's story and then part 2 is Nina's story. I predicted one of the twists but I was still really shocked and entertained by other twists and how it all played out. I also really enjoyed The Locked Door so it's safe to say I'm a Freida McFadden fan and will be seeking out more of her books.
Really enjoyed this. I particularly love it when books are written from the perspective one each of the main characters - as this is. I loved the suspense and witty way it is written. I kept swapping sides but boy what an ending. It all comes together so perfectly. Love it when you discover a new author and just want to keep reading everything they have ever written.
Thank you netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this arc honestly.
Wow. Wow. Wow. Could not put this one down. I keep seeing Freida McFadden as a must read author in my book groups and I always add them to my tbr (but I'm sure you all know how that is, it's a massive list) and I don't get to them. Well I'm glad I started with this one. Loved this book. The writing was well done, story was good, easy to follow and just flow right through it. There are a few trigger warnings possibly (dv for example) but I felt, for the topic, it was well done. It was used mostly to show a certain psychological behavior and not actually glorify it or make it too graphic, so well done. Great psychological thriller, and a must read!
This is one thriller that will stick with you long after you finish it. It is so good I was happy that my plan for the day was to read this book. I literally started in the morning and read all day.
Nina Winchester hires Millie to be the housemaid to cook, clean, and do laundry. Millie is so happy to be able to stop living in her car and move into the big mansion. Her life is about to change.
She will never forget Nina.
First I have to say, this book is like "The Last Mrs. Parrish", but on steroids.
I absolutely devoured this book! The writing style, the plot, and the way it was ended were really good.
This book hooked me in from the first page itself and there was never a dull moment. Although some areas in the middle were a bit predictable since I had read "The Last Mrs. Parrish". I don't know how much inspiration/plagiarism the owner has taken from it, but this is the next level!
The structure was again similar to that book. The writing style was good and some witty points cracked me up even.
Overall great job! I would've ranked this higher if the plot wasn't along the lines of plagiarism.
This one was a doozy!!! I’ve got to wrap my head around what I just read!!! Freida McFadden knows how to write a thriller!!! Millie has had a hard time lately finding a job but she applies for a housemaid position and she gets it. Nina and Andrew are quite the couple. Told in alternating points of views, this book had me saying what the heck numerous times! This book knocks it out of the park and I could not put it down. And the ending!!! Wow!!! Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this early release in exchange for my honest review. To be published April 2022. You won’t want to miss this thriller!!!!
Whoa, that ended quickly.
Kinda similar to a book I’ve read a few months ago but a little bit more exciting. I can’t say I liked any of the characters, though. I feel like Millie could’ve just walked away when things got out of hand but she didn’t. She was also blinded by money and some of her actions were selfish and stupid.
Also, the twist was obvious. We have a “too perfect” character and I was suspicious the whole time. Haha. So when my doubts were confirmed, I wasn’t catching my breath. The ending was unrealistic and couldn’t be further from the truth, like, how? Well, this is fiction so maybe that’s acceptable.
Overall, this was OK. The suspense was there but I wasn’t entirely hooked.
Cheers to Bookouture and Netgalley for the ARC!
A dark tale of violence, cruelty, and revenge. The book stalled in the middle as if the story had nowhere new to go, but then it picked up dramatically in the last half with a surprising twist at the end. A good read for for psychological thriller readers.
I enjoy Freida McFadden's books. And I have to say The Housemaid is probably her best yet IMO.
A well-told, with taut suspense, mystery read will have you hanging on the edge of your seat with anticipation!
Very suspenseful, engaging and dramatic. I absolutely enjoyed it and would recommend it!
Our characters are wild. Greatly developed. And fun to follow along with.
This is a standout from the crowd psychological thriller which keeps you riveted and intrigued until the deeply satisfying end!
