Freida McFadden… I kept starting this review and erasing it only to start again. I have no words for your amazing writing skills and on so many levels I just don’t think I could do this book justice. I’ll start by saying this… I’m sure everyone can agree that when vacationing on a beach with limited time to enjoy a good book… the book better be good! My goal was to finish it in the week I knew I had before returning home. Well…

I devoured this book in a day and I was sweating bullets as I turned pages furiously in the last half. This book had SO many unexpected twists. So much so, I was oblivious to the intense sunshine that I spent hours lying under while engrossed in this crazy plot of characters. (I blame Freida for my sunburn lol)

You have one crazy brain Freida McFadden and I love it! You have invented a plot of characters that will keep readers awake at night thinking about. Just when you think you know who the crazy one is… believe me… you don’t! Buckle up people… this is one fabulous ride you won’t want to miss!

Without revealing spoilers about the actual storyline I will just say … the description is enough to draw you in. From one avid psychological thriller to another, this one won’t disappoint!!!

Where in the holy H.E. double hockey sticks has Freida McFadden been my whole life?!?!

Wow, this was a binge worthy read! I finished this in less than 24 hours. The pacing was good, the chapters were short and there were plenty of f'ed the he** right up characters! Sweet momma, the crazy train has left the building!!

McFadden's writing is atmospheric at times and I felt chills reading parts of this book.

It did get a little long for me at the end, but this was still a thrilling ride.

I look forward to reading more by this author.

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.

Hooked from the beginning! This book was just amazing. You know when you’re reading a book and you don’t want it to end but at the same time you want to get to the end to find out the outcome, well this was one of those books. Suspenseful! An outstanding suspense thriller that I highly recommend to fans of this genre. The Housemaid, without a shadow of a doubt is worth the read. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

You guys! This book is FIRE!!! We are all always looking for a new book to read- this one should be next!

I loved how the book was split into 3 parts- Millie’s (the maid) POV, Nina’s (the wife’s/employer) POV, then back to Millie’s POV. Man- my feelings about the characters changed so much depending on which part of the book I was on! It was a quick, easy read, that will have you on the edge of your seat the whole time. This is the kind of book you read in one sitting! There was one part near the end that my jaw dropped! I can’t say a whole lot without giving away critical pieces of information that you probably would prefer to find out while reading.

The Housemaid is one of those psychological thrillers that was creepy…. Yes I said creepy characters that put shivers up my spine the whole way through, I thought I had it worked out but not the reveal had my head spinning, I loved every twisted sick moment of this book. Frieda McFadden writes a twisty sick prose I could not put down.

Nina & Andrew Winchester have the perfect home Andrew has his dream job & they have a daughter Cecilia who goes to a private school, they both decide to hire a nanny to take care of their huge home & Cecilia, so Nina interviews Millie who has been living in her car& finding it hard to make ends meet she was fired from her job at a burger joint& thinks the nanny job would suit her down to the ground. She gets the job Nina welcomes her to the family she is delightful at first but Nina has a dark side that when you cross her things start to go to hell.

When Nina shows Millie her room up in the attic Millie senses an uneasiness about the room dread consumes her, from here on nothing is what it seems. The Winchesters are an influential family but Andrew thinks Millie is unfairly treated& tells Nina to cool it.

But what is real & what isn’t?
There are so many read herrings in this story the mind boggles all I can say this was so good & scary it made hairs in my neck quiver, this was my first read by Miss McFadden & wont be my last one thing I thought Cecilia was a spoilt little brat who got on my nerves big time but once I read the backstory it all made sense.

Loved this book! Devilishly evil and very twisty, I honestly didn’t suspect where the storyline was going and I loved that! Must read before the movie!

Millie has been living in her car after losing her job. She is offered her dream job as maid to Nina and Andrew even though a background check should have thrown up flags. The gardener try’s to warn her but Millie needs the money. The only problem is that attic room with a painted shut window and a locked door from the outside. This story is told from the point of view of two main characters where you can see all is not as it seems. There is plenty of tension when you wait for the other shoe to drop. Many twists which leave you waiting for the final one.
A story that will keep you thinking about for a while.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Between the description and the cover art, how could I not be interested in this book? A unique plot, a mysterious catch line and the promise of several plot twists... it checks all the right boxes before the first page.

The book definitely lived up to the hype I had built up for it!

I felt that this story got underway at a pretty good pace, and it was able to hold my interest quite nicely throughout. I felt that the best part came right at the end, as things did not at all go the way I had expected. Excellent ending, in my opinion!

There were several plot twists, some of which I was able to predict, others not so much. This worked well for me as the ones I didn't see coming were very well done, in that they were not only unexpected, but also largely believable.

The characters were very well done as well. I found myself re-evaluating how I felt about Nina and Cecilia pretty much throughout the entire read, and to a lesser extent, I found myself questioning my thoughts regarding Millie as well.

Things I liked:
The horror aspects (room in the attic, for one)
Nina's back story and behaviours
The Millie character
The pace of the story and the quality of the plot twists

Things I didn’t like:
I felt that Cecilia was a bit underutilized
On a couple of occasions, I felt that there was a bit too much "off-point" information being conveyed
Overall, this was an excellent read, and I would be happy to recommend it to just about anyone.

A twisty, thriller for sure! This was my first book by this author, but it sucked me in immediately. I finished this book in record time and loved every minute of it. I felt like I would have it figured out, then it would twist again…like a true rollercoaster! I loved it! The characters were amazing and I found such believable characters that it was hard to change my mind about them once my mind was made up! Definitely one you need to grab!

This was a humdinger of a read! Suspenseful, sinister and, if I’m honest, downright sneaky. A masterclass in misdirection that had me slapping my forehead in disbelief at my own gullibility.

The eponymous housemaid is Millie, fresh out of prison, jobless and living in her car, when she’s offered a live-in position at the luxurious home of the wealthy Winchester family: Nina, husband Andy, and their precocious 9 year-old daughter Cecilia.

Millie can’t believe her luck and is only mildly concerned when her living quarters turn out to be a cramped attic room with a tiny sealed window and a door that only locks from the outside. She’s so grateful for the job that she even bats away Nina’s erratic behavior as something to be endured with gritted teeth and a smile. But all is clearly not hunky dory in the household.

Author Freida McFadden sucks you into her story with a gripping prologue, which plants expectations in your mind for what’s to follow. It’s a beautifully laid trap, and I walked right into it.

What unfolds is a twisty, unnerving tale of gaslighting, manipulation and domestic abuse, segueing into survival and revenge. Unpredictable characters with multiple personalities. And a brooding, hunky gardener, whose enigmatic warnings send shivers of uncertainty rippling through the narrative.

The story is cleverly divided into two halves. The first is told from Millie’s point of view, as she tries to make sense of the behavior around her; the second is from Nina’s. And it is this unexpected switch in voices that turns everything on its head, ratchets up the pace, and sends you off at a gallop to the end of the book.

I loved how this story resolved itself. It wasn’t pretty. In fact, it was bloody grim. But it was all that I wanted it to be. All that it DESERVED to be. And I loved it!

Wow, wow, wow! I could not believe how this book could get better and better. And then the ending! There needs to be a sequel.

Millie is desperate for a job, homeless, sleeping in her old car and just out of prison. She’s been sacked from her waitressing job and needs life to give her a break. When she’s offered the housemaid position with Nina and Andrew, she thinks she has fallen on her feet. And despite Nina’s exacting and pedantic ways, Millie will do whatever she needs to, to keep her job.

This book had been completely gripped. A huge 5 stars!

Wow!!!
A woman living in her car is desperate for a job to be a housemaid. This job gives her a room in the house. When she is offered the job, the woman she works for is very challenging.
But all is not as expected in this book, with a very interesting ending. I suggest looking at other books by this author.

"If I leave this house, it will be in handcuffs." This is the first line of the book and the prologue had me intrigued. The more I read, I realized I could not put the book down till I knew how it ended.

Wow is all I can say about this thrilling and twister filled book by Freida McFadden. This was the first book I have read by this author and it will not be the last. Best words to describe this book, chaos, madhouse, mayhem, recognizable plot, predictable one minute and a wallop the next, suspenseful, entertaining, creepy, odd, disturbing, and unrealistic. All of these words make this a tantalizing suspenseful read.

Two unreliable characters point of view told but should there be 3? One spoiled rotten 9 year old or has her life been dealt poorly? We all have secrets? Is there such thing as a dream come true husband and home life? Maybe the unreliable characters are neurotic and crazy or possibly smarter than you think? Who is reliable? So many questions. You must read The Housemaid to find all the answers.

Thank you Bookouture and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Wow, wow, wow!!!! This is the first book I have read by Frieda McFadden, but it will not be my last. This jaw dropping, mind blowing and twisted domestic thriller blew my mind.
