I have no idea what Scarlett St. Clair puts in these books but they are impossible to put down. While sometimes these retellings from a different POV can get tedious, this series has so much in it! I really feel like I'm reading a brand new series but with characters I care about. It really fleshes out the story. So good.

It was really good. The writing was descriptive and immersive. The characters were great. I really enjoyed that we got to have Hades's POV of what he was doing/going through while Persephone was dealing with what she was dealing with.

A Game of Retribution by Scarlett St. Clair is a perfect fit for readers who crave a dark and emotional fantasy romance that reimagines Greek mythology, with a strong focus on complex characters, intense relationships, and mature themes, making it a must-read for fans of Percy Jackson and The All Souls Trilogy.

Absolutely adored this. Remembered I never left a review here. It's been a while since I read it so my review isn't going to help very much! I haven't been on my Netgalley in years.

LOVED THIS. Scarlett St. Clair can do no wrong, and this was no exception. This installment of the Hades x Persephone series was everything I wanted it to be.

St. Clair is an excellent story teller and this series is one my favorites by her. This is the second book in the series and it doesn't suffer from second book slump, it was just as excellent as the first. I will always recommend these books to NA readers that are looking for a fun blend of adventure and spice.

Just not exactly to my taste, but over all not bad. It's a little more grown-up a version of our favorite mythological re-telling. I'd recommend it for those who want a more adult re-telling.

I love hades and reading his perspective brings me such joy!!

I love that this isn’t just a mirror of ruin. It has its own plot and motivations and flows seamless alongside Ruin.

I enjoyed Hades’ POV in this series much more so than Persephone’s (who to be honest really annoyed me with her constant whining and youthful immaturity). Hades was everything unexpected of a mysterious god and made his role lively and entertaining.

The longer this series goes on... the less interested I am in their story. I did not know i could dislike Persephone... because i mean she's PERSOPHNE. But book after book I'm left disappointed in this series. which is such a disappointment because i want to love it.

I love Scarlett’s writing! This book is from Hades pov. It does not disappoint! I highly recommend reading this book. I love reading dual pov books in general so being able to get his feeling and thoughts about events is awesome! If you haven’t started this series yet you’re missing out!

Scarlett St Clair brought forth all the emotions, I laughed, I cried, my heart lodged itself in my throat more than once. I absolutely love Sephy’s growth and reading her journey, but I also really love reading Hades’ story as well and reading about all of his experiences. Hades’ POV just makes the whole story so much deeper and richer

I would read a shopping list by Scarlett St. Clair. I love her writing, I love the spice and I especially love that this series has both POVs from Hades and Persephone. It really rounds out the story and this book is no exception. I am so happy I was able to read this book before it was published!

Hades POV continues to deliver a robust and nuanced picture of the world. Both hades and Persephone are unreliable narrators, so seeing the complementary storylines begin to merge is rewarding and exciting. The new characters are intriguing and I can’t wait to learn more about Ari and Dionysus in particular. Another winner.

I’ll read anything by Scarlett! Another steamy read! This read is from Hades’s view. I loved the new perspective!

I would rate this a three out of five- it wasn’t my favorite but I loved it nevertheless because Hades is one hot mofo!

My review was originally posted on IG and goodreads, but I feel it’s necessary to share again here. I’m a die hard Scarlett fan and seriously can’t wait for the next book in the HxP saga. These books bring me so much joy. Forever a comfort read!

“Get wet, Daddy Death” might just be my new favorite quote and this might just be my new favorite book. But in all fairness, anything and everything Scarlett writes is my new “favorite.”

I absolutely adored being back in the world of A Touch of Darkness with this second installment in the Hades’ POV counterparts. In A Game of Retribution, we get a ton of added perspective from Hades and his interactions with the other gods. Did you ever wonder why he was often absent in A Touch of Ruin? Don’t lie, you know we all wondered. And now we wonder no more!

This is a spoiler free zone but I will repeat over and over again how important it is to read both Hades’ and Persephone’s points of view. I love the contrast in how they view their world and how those views ultimately come together in the best way. Seriously, don’t miss out on this installment. It’s everything I hoped for and then some. Until next time…

I love Scarlett St Clair! She writes with such imagination you can’t help but become completely consumed by the story. I love myth retellings , particularly Hades and Persephone, and the Touch of Darkness series. Reading from Hades perspective was exciting. You get so much more of the picture, about what is happening among the gods and behind the scenes. It’s truly a fun and addictive read!

I came into this hoping Hades would be more level headed and easier to get through than Persephone’s perspective. Unfortunately, the same faults I had with Persephone’s perspective were evident in A Game of Retribution and I found myself forcibly getting through it. It didn’t seem to add anything new to Persephone’s view and so felt a little unnecessary.

Book review: A Game of Retribution by Scarlett St. Clair
I was actually surprised by this one and ended up enjoying it more than the first installment of the series. I know that this has received a few bd reviews due to the miscommunication so if you are not someone who enjoys the miscommunication trope, I would not recommend this series in general. I usually cannot stand the miscommunication trope but, in this case, I actually didn’t mind it. Its believable to think that Hades, God of death, would not be the most forthcoming when it comes to communicating his feelings. Persephone annoyed me a bit again in this book. I am not sure if its because we are reading from Hades POV but for some reason, I found her very selfish and self-absorbed at times. I have really enjoyed the series so far and will be waiting in anticipation for book threes release.

Game of Retribution is the 2nd book in the Hades Saga, Hades perspective of A Touch of Ruin. I unfortunately think that this is the last book I’ll read in either of these series. Persephone’s character is unbelievably ignorant. She doesn’t think, doesn’t ask for help and doesn’t listen to Hades (especially when he has valuable information). I slogged through her perspective to be prepared to read Hades’. Unfortunately reading these characteristics from Hades’ perspective does not make them any more tolerable. So much of the book could have been resolved if these two characters just talked to each other. Hades needed to show Persephone his realm and told her about his business ventures. This would’ve allowed Persephone to not act so rash when she eventually stumbled upon them. So much of this book was propelled forward on lack of communication. And knowing so does not make for an entertaining read.

The only redeeming qualities were the parts without Persephone (which is the point of having this book on Hades perspective). His trials with Hera and the investigation into missing women were pretty much the only additional things Hades’ perspective had to offer. Which I don’t understand why you wouldn’t mention these things to the women you intend to marry.

One thing Scarlett St Claire does spectacularly well though is smut. These books were hot and deserve multiple chilli peppers. Even though we’ve seen some of these scenes before they were worth the reread.

As I mentioned before this will be the last Hades x Persephone and Hades Saga book I will be reading. Perhaps if future books have a more tolerable Persephone I might pick it back up. But for now I’ll put the series on hold.
