Thank you so much for the early opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review. This was a cute romance to get lost in and the characters and storyline are well balanced. Something different and well liked!
I love a book that reminds me of a hallmark movie. I loved the small town setting. The gossip travels quickly through this type of community and that added to the feud between the two families. I liked getting both POV and how neither Kira nor Franklin really new what happened between the two families. At times their dialogue felt a little disconnected, as it didn’t flow as nicely as the rest of the story. Time did jump fast, you get to the end of a section and the next one starting was weeks after. It made the relationship seem like it was moving a little faster than it did, but I enjoyed their time together. It was a comfort feel-good type of read. A light romance with a little bit of conflict to keep you on your toes. I will be reading the rest of the Clover Creek novels.
Thank you @entangled_publishing @ysdyoung for the gifted copy!
Secrets from the Heart is a small town romance that will warm your heart. This is the second book in the Clover Creek series by Sean D. Young. If you haven’t read the first book, no worries because this can be read as a standalone. Even though this is such a sweet series, I think you should read the first so you don’t miss out.
Kira Davis, not from Clover Creek, got the keys to her family’s inn, Red Rose. Charming and full of history, this is everything that she could've dreamed of in spite of any doubts as to whether she could make it successful. In need of a manager, the only candidate that applies, Franklin Bennett, eager and willing happens to come from a family that currently isn’t welcomed by hers. True to her instincts, she decides to give him a chance against her family’s wishes hoping she isn’t making a mistake.
Despite their families long time feud, working together seems to unravel mixed feelings and doubt. As they bring the Inn to success, they find themselves developing a growing bond that puts them in an uncertain future. With the past looming over their relationship and secrets revealing themselves, they find the key to their future is mending the past.
Overall, this was a nice read. The storyline of what happened with both families and how they played out really was interesting. Their influence on the relationship between Kira and Franklin was strong and engaging. The relationship between Kira and Franklin was interesting but I felt like there was a point in the book where it felt uncertain in their transition from friendship to being in love, then rushed. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the journey of how they fell in love with each other but I wish we saw a little bit more of them being in love.
I’m not sure if there are any upcoming books to be in the series. I’m hoping to revisit Clover Creek. If you get a chance and check out this series, make sure you back read to check out book one.
Secrets From the Heart is the second book in the Clover Creek series. This one features Franklin and Kira. It works well as a stand alone book and I don't feel like you have to have read the first book before this one. For the most part, I thought this was a cute clean romance. I did like the chemistry between the main couple. I thought they were sweet together. I also liked how the feud between the two families was resolved. It proves that grief can really get in the way of communication and relationships. What I didn't love about the book was how it felt really old fashioned. The dialogue seemed like it was out of another era and not in modern day. It came across as a bit cheesy at times. Despite that, I do recommend this one.
I do always love a great Black romance, but this one just isn't hitting for me. While I typically enjoy the feuding family storylines, I just don't find myself particularly drawn to Franklin or Kira. I am also not a big fan of the whole ex-military storyline. I know that some people love it, but it's not my cup of tea.
SECRETS FROM THE HEART is the second book in the Clover Creek series by Sean D. Young.
SECRETS FROM THE HEART hooked me right from the very first page and never let me go! The characters just grabbed my heart and I was instantly emotionally invested in every single one of them. The Bennett family has always had a big time fued with the Davis family. Neither Kira or Franklin know exactly what happened to cause this and each of them has a different version of the feud. Hang on my friends, because Kira is about to learn some hard life lessons not to mention family secrets from both her family and Franklin’s.
Not soon after SECRETS FROM THE HEART starts, Kira Davis reconnects with Franklin Bennett, a boy she went to high school with. Franklin is in need of a job and Kira needs help with the Red Rose Inn, her family’s historic inn. She knows that if she hires Franklin, her family is going to go nuts. Franklin also knows that his parents are going to go crazy when they find out he is working there. Kira and Franklin decide to move on from the fued and move ahead with Franklin getting hired. There is an almost instant connection between the two of them and that is not a good thing. It is not Insta Love but their feelings are growing pretty quickly. Kira knows its a forbidden love, almost like Romeo and Juliet. Its not a good thing because of the fued and they both know what problems are going to come from their families.
Franklin and Kira become friends and nothing more. Or at least, that’s what they both believe at first. Kira wonders if she will be able to make the inn sucessful and is also fighting the desire to become more than friends with Franklin. Kira has so much growing up to do and it was a real joy to watch her come into her own. At first, Kira annoyed me with the way she quickly gave up and ran away, but I soon found myself cheering for her as I was reading. SECRETS FROM THE HEART is a fabulous story with very relatable characters and a plot that has many twists and turns. I still can’t believe how quickly I read this story and now I will happily look up Sean D. Young’s other books and read every last one of them. Ms. Young knows just how much information to put on each page to keep the reader flipping the pages and soon you will find yourself unable to put it down.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through Netgalley. All opinions expressed are my own and were voluntarily given.
The Families of Kira Davis and Franklin Bennett have been feuding for years, but desperate times calls for desperate measures when Kira needs Franklin's help in running her family's inn. Frankin is back from serving his country, and decides to help Kira despite his family's concerns and until he decides his next move. As they begin to work together, their attraction builds, and family secrets are revealed that will shock several family members.
I love slow build romances, and this one is no exception. I especially enjoyed the chemistry as well as the banter between Kira and Franklin. The story flowed seamless to me and I was able to fly right through this enjoyable and heartwarming story. It was a captivating read, and I can't wait to read the next book from this author.
I received a copy of the book via NetGalley and Entangled Publishing and am voluntarily leaving an honest review of my own thoughts and opinions.
I liked this book. I found it to be a charming read. I liked that Kira was willing to give Franklin a chance; despite their families not liking each other. Almost kind of like a Romero and Juliet type of story. When it came to the sparks of chemistry between Kira and Franklin, I could feel them. Yet, the romance was a slow building one. Which in their case, I don't blame them, and it was more believable that it was not an "instalove".
While I did like this book, I do have to admit that my attention span kind of went in waves. In the beginning, I was into this story, and it did stay that way for about a third of the way into the story. Then for some reason my interest kind of waivered a bit and I found myself a few times have to reread sections. Yet, it did pick up again toward the end. Secrets from the Heart is a sweet read.

Secrets from the Heart is the second book in the Clover Creek Series by Sean D. Young. This book tells the story of Franklin Bennett and Kira Davis. In the small town of Clover Creek, there has been a decades-old feud between the Bennett and Davis families, however, the love between Franklin and Kira evolves despite the rivalry. When the two uncover family secrets they realize that their relationship could set things right between the families.
I loved the plot of this book and the story had my attention from the very first page. I love the “forbidden love” trope and Young wrote it really well within Franklin and Kira’s relationship. This book reminded me of the perfect Hallmark movie as it has a perfect balance of sweetness, tension, and mystery!
Secrets from the Heart is a small town romance set in Clover Creek, Tennessee, which is near Nashville. Kira Davis is running her family's historic inn, the Red Rose Inn. She hires Franklin Bennett to work for three months as manager. The problem? Kira and Franklin's family have a longstanding feud based on the mysterious death of Kira's aunt years before. As they get closer, they also work to solve the family mystery.
I wanted to read this book because I enjoy small town settings, and I liked the synopsis.
Secrets from the Heart is a charming read. I really liked both Kira and Franklin; they are kind, decent people who want to make the inn a success, put the family feud to rest, and move forward with their new relationship.
The small town southern setting is delightful! The author even includes two of the characters' family recipes: The Davis Family Lemon Velvet Cake and The Bennett Family Lemon Supreme Cake.
This is the second book in the Clover Creek series. I have not read the first book, but had no problem reading and enjoying this book as a standalone. I would also enjoy reading the other books in this series, after enjoying this one.
I recommend Secrets from the Heart for fans of small town romance. It is a sweet story and would make a great Hallmark movie -- perfect for a relaxing weekend read!
The Bennett-Davis feud lies at the heart and soul of this engaging story that takes place in Clover Creek, Tennessee. Caught in the middle of this family feud are Kira Davis and Franklin Bennett.. Can you say, Hatfields vs. McCoys? Yes, fans it’s just that serious! Two families living in the same town who have an intense dislike for each other because of a tragedy that happened in the past.
I’m not spilling any tea, dear fans. You must read this intriguing story for yourself. However, I will tell you that the feud between the Davis and Bennett family affects our heroine and hero. Franklin not only wants the managing position, but he also wants to get to know his boss (Kira) better.
So, just what caused the feud? Oh, it’s a sad story. Consequently, there is a lot of misunderstanding and miscommunication involved. The character who stands out is the deceased Sophia. You’ll get that when you read the story. The scene when the families finally confront each other about the tragedy that started the 40 year feud is epic, and marks a wonderful HFN for Kira and Franklin.
SECRETS FROM THE HEART is a captivating story and I recommend it for your reading pleasure. It’s all about family and forgiveness and new beginnings. I enjoyed it, and I’m sure you will too.
This is such a sweet story about two people who try hard to deny their feelings just to spare their families. Neither believe in the feud that seems to be going on forever, but they also can't change the way their families think. They can't tolerate each other and everyone in their small town knows that. But Kira and Franklin must find a way to work together. They both are in tough positions, Kira needs a manager for her family's inn and Franklin needs a temporary job until he decides about his future. Necessity brings the two together and want keeps them there. Can they really go against their families and be true to their own hearts?
It's a beautiful small town story and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'd recommend it to all romance lovers.
After serving more than 15 years in the Arm, Franklin Bennett comes home to his small town to decided what he’s going to do next. Kira Davis has only ever wanted to fit in with her family and she’s finally been given the chance to prove herself by running her family’s Inn. For reasons unknown to them, their families have had a few for the last 40 years. Kira hires Franklin to be the Inn’s manager for 3 months, which opens the door to romance and solving the decades old feud between their families, or so they hope.
This story is a story about different kinds of love - from romance to parent/child, to siblings and other relatives. It’s also on one level, a story about loving and acceptance of yourself. Both Kira and Franklin were looking for their places in their “world” and found it by working together to make the Inn the best that it could be.
I enjoyed reading this book. My only thing was that a few times I felt like there wasn’t enough buildup/explanation for why the character acted the way they did, but over all a truly enjoyable story.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Kira has recently taken over the management of the Inn that her family owns and is determined to show them they made the right decision. She doesn’t get off to a great start as she needs someone to help her with the day-to-day activities and the only person available is Franklin who happens to be part of the family that hers is feuding with.
Franklin has returned to his hometown as he contemplates the next step in his future. The job with Kira is perfect as it allows him to use his skills on a temporary basis. Neither Kira nor Franklin were prepared for the attraction and feelings they would have for each other but if they are to be together they must resolve the painful past between their families.
I did enjoy seeing the relationship between Kira and Franklin unfold as they uncovered the secrets of the past and allowed healing to finally occur.
💕Kira is trying to run her family’s boutique hotel, and Franklin is between tours in the Army as an engineer. She has to make a business decision- should she hire him for a position she needs filled, even if her family has been feuding with his for decades?
💕 She hires him, and a forbidden romance commences, as it well should! 🔥 Kira is smart and kind, and Franklin is all kinds of strong and smexy. I enjoyed how they fit together and respected one another.
💕 In their small town, family is everything. For their relationship to really blossom, they need to get to the bottom of this wound that dug a trench between their families.
💕 This book could make the perfect Hallmark movie- just the right amount of sweetness and tension, with more than a hint of mystery.
💕 If you’ve ever tried to pry information out of your family or fiends, you can relate to this book. Secrets are at the center, and they hold the key to our main characters’ happiness. I was rooting for them, and I think you will too!
💕 I give this one ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ because it gave me a sweet romance with the perfect ending. Couldn’t we all use more Hallmark-like romances in our lives?
💕 I want to give props to this publisher- Entangled. I’m so impressed by what they’re releasing lately… their releases are ones to watch! 👀
💕Big thanks to Entangled and TLC Book Tours for letting me review this book!
3.5⭐
This is the second story in the Clover Creek series and as I found the first very engaging I was keen to read Secrets from the Heart. But sadly I struggled a little with this one and ended up putting it down a few times this week before finally picking it up and finishing it.
Not that it wasn't a pleasing read as it was it's just that so much of the story is concentrated on the family feud that the romance between Kira and Franklin gets lost and that meant I struggled to buy into them as a couple.
But I liked them as individuals and the small-town setting is as charming as ever and certainly if you're someone who loves the family feud trope this will be the ideal read for you.
This story is a little bit like Romeo and Juliet. Franklin and Kira are from two families in a small town who have been at odds for over four decades. Franklin is home on leave from the Army while he decides if he wants to reenlist. Kira has taken over the running of the family inn and is determined to make it successful. Initially it is just about showing everyone around them that they can ignore the feud and work well together but then feelings come into play. It is an overall sweet story that emphasizes family togetherness.
My first from this author and my reactions are mixed at the moment (just finished reading this). It was an interesting story line and I liked several parts of it while many places I had blocks...
Kira & Franklin were the MCs who were portrayed well but would have loved to see more of their relationship - instead of them worried and trying to find out about the past. They meet knowing little about the family feud and that's always been a block. I felt a lot happening around them giving less chance to fall in love strongly.
Maybe my expectations on romance amidst family feud was different - but I felt something amiss (even after - or should I say especially after - the secret was revealed).
All said, it still was an interesting story and gets 3.75 stars out of 5.
When Franklin gets a job with Kira at the Inn, the feud between their families flares up again. Do they have a chance at being together when their families want to keep them apart and secrets are being kept?
A great read - I like how it is told from both points of view.
This is not the first book I’ve read by this author and I typically enjoy Ms. Young’s books but this one I had a hard time getting through. I liked this book ok but didn’t see/feel how the main couple fell in love. The story was more focused on the past of the feuding families rather than the couple falling in love. The feud took up so much of the story that when it came time for them to be together, I didn’t feel like it fit. I would still encourage people to read it and judge for themselves because she is a good writer.
