A twisted tale you do t want to miss.
This story has twists and turns you don’t see coming.
You think you understand a character only to learn that you had no idea who that person was.
A good story that will keep you turning page after page.
I couldn’t put it down.
The book started with a scene of a girl dying at a party, from her perspective. I was immediately interested. Then it introduced Raven and Abbey, who used to be Lilly’s roommate in college. Lilly is the girl who died. Raven is so annoying and unlikable, she has so much anxiety and worries about EVERYTHING. Abbey is rude and a typical mean girl. The story is of their roadtrip after 12 years of not speaking, Raven thinks they are being followed and somehow thinks their past of Lilly’s death has something to do with it. The story drags on, becomes predictable, and the characters are all annoying.
This book fell very short for me. I found it hard to believe that two friends who had been estranged for such a long time would drop everything and go on a road trip together. It seemed a bit far-fetched, and was hard to enjoy the characters on a deeper level.
*Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this arc in exchange for my honest review*
Another solid thriller from Cathryn Grant - she never disappoints!!
The book was full of suspense from beginning to end, and with a slow burning plot, it was such a good read!
I wanted to like this book but so many things about the plot bothered me.
Two college friends reconnect years later. One had dropped out after finding their roommate dead and they cut off all communication after the event. Which brings us to:
Plot hole #1- After speaking for the first time in years, they randomly decide to go a road trip to get their friendship back on track. (I thought that was impulsive and weird. Most adults have jobs and can’t pick up and just leave for 2 weeks with no firm plans on a vacay with a virtual stranger.)
Plot hole #2- Raven lies to her husband about the road trip with Abbey and tells him she is visiting her mom instead. She does this even though she seemingly has a happy, stable marriage. Things that make you go hmmmmm.
Plot hole #3- Lily, the deceased roommate, has two different colored eyes. It is mentioned from her viewpoint over and over again. We keep hearing about how insecure she is about her eyes. It’s a whole thing. If it was such a big deal to her, why wouldn’t she wear colored contacts?
I always feel guilty when I give a bad review but this book just seemed like a manual for bad choices. The plot was flimsy. The characters weren’t likeable. It just wasn’t good. I am sorry NetGalley.
2 stars! Best Friends Forever was an ok read but missed the mark for me. I received an ARC from Cathryn Grant, Inkubator Books, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
This was a 50/50 read for me. It started off strong and I was engaged and intrigued about the story. But by the middle I’d lost interest. It wasn’t terrible by any means, the plot was pretty tense. I wasn’t on the edge of my seat but I was interested enough to read until the end. My biggest problem was I struggled to connect to the characters and found it difficult to care about what happened to them. It’s not completely put me off reading more from the author in the future, but I can’t say I’d be rushing to buy their next book, sadly.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author, and publisher for a chance to read and review this book.
Two friends Abbey and Raven decide to go on a road trip together. Their trip quickly turns in a nightmare when they realize someone is following them. After a while Abbey realizes he's no stranger but is connected to a horrible event from her past. She also doesn't know that Raven wasn't completely honest about their trip and has been keeping a dark secret from her. The plot is told from both womens perspectives, as well as their former roommate Lily who died when they were in college. Some parts of it were a little far-fetched in my opinion but the ending made up for that. Overall it was a great quick read. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced reader copy.
This was my first book by Cathryn Grant and overall I enjoyed it. It was a quick and easy read with a few twists to keep you guessing. Some parts did seem a bit far fetched but I did get invested in the story enough to want to slap Raven a few times (ha). I was surprised at some of the ending and I liked it! I would recommend this book and I will be checking out some of Cathryn Grant's other books.
Another stunning thriller from Cathryn Grant.
Best Friends Forever follows old college friends, Abbey and Raven, as they embark on a road trip in an effort to find the freedom and adventure they crave. Abbey is celebrating her divorce and Raven is looking to escape her dark depression at being unable to conceive. The pair have only recently met up again and are both keen to see if they can rekindle the friendship they had during their college days. As the trip progresses, it’s revealed that a traumatic event from that time still haunts them both – especially Raven who is racked with guilt and desperate for forgiveness.
The chapters alternate between the two together with chapters by Lily, who was their college room mate. As we learn more about what happened in the past, the tension builds to an edge of your seat read and one that I didn’t want to put down.
Highly recommend.
Many thanks to Inkubator Books and NetGalley UK for the review copy.
Best Friends Forever is a thriller based on the reconnection of 2 best friends from college. This novel was twisty, psychological and honestly just downright creepy. Seriously, I had the chills. With multiple POVs and a dual timeline, you get to see the inner workings of the minds of the main characters. Writing a thriller with multiple points of view where the characters can be differentiated is difficult, but I think Cathryn Grant did a fantastic job.
Really good book!
Fast paced and easy read. Goes between two different perspective. Kind of similar to In My Dreams I hold a knife.
"Two friends. One road trip. A journey to hell."
Abbey is ready for adventure and fun after a recent divorce, but Raven is more reserved and careful. When the two reconnect after not seeing each other since college, a girl's road trip sounds like lots of fun. Twelve years is a lot of time, and they aren't the same girls they were way back then, causing some tension between the two. Along their travels, they notice a stranger is following them. As his threat towards them intensifies, Abbey realizes he isn't a stranger after all; He's someone connected to a horrific event from their past. What secret is Raven hiding? Who is the man following them and what does he want?
Another great read by Cathryn Grant! I loved this story and couldn't put it down. The two main characters were SO unlikable, but their story was so intriguing. I think it says a lot about an author who can make you invested in characters you can't stand. If you're a fan of psychological thrillers, add this to your TBR. I can't wait to read more of her work!
I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I thought this was a wonderful psychological thriller and I can't wait until Catheryn Grant writes another one!
Ahhhh what a ride, this was such a fun book to read. Creepy as to how far people will go to get what they want ! WOW.. I cant read to more books by this author.
Full review to come on Goodreads and Amazon. Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for a review copy.
I have read several of Cathryn’s books now and I have enjoyed them all. When I read the synopsis of ‘Beat Friends Forever’ and it certainly sounded like the sort of clever psychological thriller that I have come to expect from Cathryn. Well it was certainly all that and more. I really enjoyed reading ‘Best Friends Forever’ but more about that in a bit.
I have to say that I didn’t really warm to the lead characters of Abbey and Raven at all. In fact there was something about the pair of them that started little alarm bells ringing for me. I got the distinct impression that where they were concerned things weren’t as they might first appear and that each character was hiding something. Of course it could just be that I have read far too many crime and thriller books and I that believe nobody and suspect everybody.
It didn’t take me long at all to get into ‘Best Friends Forever’. In fact by the time I got to the end of the first couple of pages I knew that I was going to enjoy the story and that I would find it rather difficult to put the book to one side for any length of time. I was intrigued by the characters and with the storylines and of course I had to keep reading to see if the story panned out as I expected it would or if I had the wrong end of the stick. My Kindle wasn’t exactly glued to my hand but it might as well have been because it travelled almost everywhere with me. I didn’t want to miss a single second of the story. I became so wrapped up in the story that I lost all track of time and just how quickly I was getting through the book. All too quickly I reached the end of the story. I found ‘Best Friends Forever’ to be a gripping, tense and dramatic read.
‘Best Friends Forever’ is extremely well written but then I have come to expect nothing less from Cathryn Grant. She certainly knows how to grab the reader’s attention and draw them into what turns out to be one hell of a story. The story hits the ground running and maintains a steady pace throughout with a tension level that steadily increases. The story is written in the form of chapters which are written from the points of view of Abbey and Raven with the occasional chapter taking the format of a diary entry from the former roommate of Abbey and Raven. The chapters interlink well and the story flows seamlessly as a result. Reading ‘Best Friends Forever’ felt like being on a bit of a scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride with several twists and turns along the way.
In short, I really enjoyed reading ‘Best Friends Forever’ and I would recommend it to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Cathryn’s work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 4* out of 5*.
What a gripping thriller.
This was a very disturbing but good read.
Thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish and could not get enough of.
This is a must read for anyone who enjoys a good thriller!!
Thanks for allowing me to read this book, I finished it but found it a little too long and the road trip at sone times got a little boring.
Abbey and Raven shared a room at college they were friends, but the had another room mate Lily who they disliked and were very nasty to her.
Lily died after a overdose, who was to blame.
Abbey and Raven went on a road trip together for a reunion at their college, and I it was really a road trip from hell.
Who killed a Lily and who was the man that kept following them.
The book was ok but I did find it rather repetitive. I
