I never repeat the blurb. This was a complicated but sad story. The lead character's tenacity and determination to get to the truth shone through, but some of the psychological analysis was a little off putting.

This one is a really hard one to review, considering it’s only 350ish pages it took me ages to finish this as I felt it was incredibly slow and every time something was about to happen it then didn’t. But I don’t think this is the books fault exactly as it is really well written and a good story however it’s advertised wrong, I don’t feel this works well as a mystery/thriller. Throughout it was obvious what was happening with the nan and that Tim had something to do with it. It then got dragged out using Kits own family story, which wasn’t uninteresting but also took away from this being the thriller it’s described to be. This should be advertised more as a family domestic and then I feel it’ll find the right audience. I came into this thinking it would be a fast paced thriller with loads of shocking turns but it just wasn’t, there was no real high tension scenes that fall into a thriller/mystery it was more a tormented family situation with a heavy influence of mental illness. Which as the plot was fantastic but not what I personally was expecting and therefore didn’t love it like I feel I would have if I’d known what I said was getting going in.

Social worker Kit Goddard is convinced that Sandbeach Child Services have let an injured seventeen-year-old boy down, just like they'd done to her brother ten years earlier. Since the referral came in, it had been passed between departments, her own manager Georgia and colleague Tim brushing it off as a low risk, low priority case. But Kit can't shake the feeling that something isn't quite right.

Scanning the referral, she notices that the house seventeen-year-old Dylan Meredith lives in with his 'weird' mother had been described as decrepit. The anonymous caller said he was injured, frightened and afraid to tell the truth.

As Kit begins to look deeper into the history of the family, she learns that Dylan's grandmother had been an inpatient at Penlan psychiatric hospital and had died there in 2012. But as her colleague Tim had stressed, this was not a case for psychiatric services.

In a bid to trace the anonymous caller for more information, Kit sets off to the small coastal town of Rock. Only to be confronted with the sense of strangeness that surrounds the Meredith family and the rumours that have troubled this small community for years.

Another quick read for me! Reading from Kit's point of you was an enjoyable experience and I did not expect the plot twist! 4 stars from me.

I unfortunately didn’t enjoy this book at all. Even though the main character Kit has had a tough life herself and is a good person wanting to do the best for Dylan and his mother, I really didn’t warm her as a person!

The book was a bit slow to start with but picked up about half way through. I guessed part of the twist at the end but the other major twist caught me completely off guard.

After reading it, I learnt this book is the second instalment in the series. I think if I had read the first book first, I would of probably given this 3 or 4 stars out of 5.

Okay this was so well written it went where I didn't think it would go and I really enjoyed reading it.

A must read. Adams is a skilled and engaging writer who's career as a social worker gives real authenticity to her stories. Inexperienced Social worker Kit fights so that another young lad won't slip through the cracks in the system. A former foster child herself, Kit loves her job but is willing to risk it all so that her brother's experience won't be repeated. As she delves into the case we learn more about Kit's family and her past and how this both helps and hinders her investigation and her career. A psychological thriller with a heart of gold.

This was a gripping read that held my interest from start to finish. Well written with lots of tension and twists and turns.

Everything about this book is captivating. This novel is impossible to put down. I downloaded the arc this morning, and by this afternoon, I had finished. The rollercoaster was intense, the twists and turns unexpected, and the element of surprise insane.

I have been eagerly awaiting the second instalment of Kit’s social work in Sandybeach, and it has exceeded my high expectations! I cannot overstate how refreshing it is to read a novel set in the South Wales valleys that accurately capture what life is really like there. I wish Kit was my best friend and Vernon was my manager. Looking forward to the third one already! I hope there will be a third!!

A fast paced and intense thriller that was well written with a compelling storyline and well developed charcaters. It was a gripping read that had me on the edge of my seat, twisty and unpredictable I couldn't put it down.

Ooh boy but this was intense is the only way to describe it and what a psychological thriller it was, the hair on my neck was standing reading it but it was just so good x
