I looked forward to this book, as I really enjoyed the first book. I did find it a bit confusing as this was quite a leap into the future, so this book involved the daughter of the hero/heroine in the first book. Of course the book was full of espionage, secrets and murder that the hero and heroine had to solve. Alaric was stoic and keeping his own secrets, and Lexa is dealing with unrequited feelings. As always, adventure ensues and love abounds. Decent book.

I really enjoyed the first half of this book, it was engaging and I liked the romantic tension and world-building. However, the latter half of the book fell off a bit for me. It felt like the tension was building up for a not very big/surprising climax. It was just a bit of a letdown in terms of the villain and all of it was just anticlimactic in my opinion. It showed a lot of promise and I like the premise but it just let me down a bit overall.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Well that was disappointing.

The romance was crap. There was absolutely no chemistry between them. It felt forced and nonsensical at some points. We go into it with the romance having already been established in the past, and the author seems to hope we just accept it and go with it. The entirety of the book is her acting petty because she's butt-hurt and him pining for her while treating her like a douche. If you want sexy bits, there is one scene towards the end. It was okay but not great. This is an adult novel because there are swears and one sex scene, but it was otherwise pretty juvenile. Lexa acted like an angsty teen.

The story felt really incomplete. It felt like pretty much nothing happened. They travel to the human kingdom, shit goes down, the end. Nothing satisfying came to pass. There was no excitement, no edge of the seat. The motivation for the bad guy was really basic and hard to believe. I also found that the constant reminders of the nuclear apocalypse pulled me out of the story. This is a fantasy story, a paranormal romance, but the constant referrals to radioactive this and that just kept trying to pull it back into sci-fi territory. There was a lot of missed potential here.

This was just a good book! I loved the writing style and the story!
I loved the chemistry of Alaric, Lexa and Kellan. Lexa is the princess of her kingdom and Kellen is her guard. Alaric is the prince of the human kingdom that they have an alliance with. The push and pull of Lexia and Kellen and their chemistry together was so sweet. Kellen the man that she wants is the only man that she can’t have. They are all the betrayed by people that they thought were their friends. They all form an alliance together to beat those who have betrayed them and save their kingdoms.
All of the characters in this book are great they all had such depth. I looked forward to reading more from this author.

I received an Arc copy of this book for an honest review.

received a free copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I really liked that we jumped to Cora’s daughter in this. As well wrapped up the last story was, I think I would have been let down jumping back into Cora’s story. Now, it’s 25 years or more later and her daughter is set to make the cross and her fledging in the Isle of Man. This time, it’s the humans with a royal problem, and Lexa is there to help.

When I first saw this book I was pretty excited for it. I had so many questions at the end of Cormorant Run that I thought we were finally going to get more of the story so maybe I'll get my answers. But we don't. This one is twenty some years later and is about Cora and Ronin's eldest child. Still, I was really excited about it because I absolutely loved the first book. Sadly, I was disappointed in this one.

For a good chunk of the beginning of the book, I did not like Lexa. She was one of those characters that are constantly doing the opposite of what they are asked to do just because they can. Oh, she should go home and rest before her long journey that starts the next morning? Not a chance! She's going to stay out and get so totally drunk just because she doesn't have to listen to that person. She had her heart broken a year ago by Kellen, so when he shows backs up, she's going to do the exact opposite of what he wants. Because acting like a child will totally show him. I hate characters like that.

Any one who read Ronin and Cora's book knows what those two had to go thru in order to establish peace between their people and the humans. And how they became a couple throughout all the bickering and trying to stay alive. I, for one, had so much fun with them on their journey. However, here....here it wasn't nearly as exciting. Don't get me wrong. This book still had a great, and twisty, story going on. So it was definitely good. I just didn't love it.

For the past year, the human crown prince (Alaric) has been living in the Eyrie sort of on a cultural exchange thing. Now it's time for him to go home and for Lexa to make her own trip to Isle of Man. What she didn't expect was for Kellen, the boy who broke her heart when he left after they shared their first kiss, to be assigned to go with her. And she is not happy about it. When they arrive at the king's castle, things seem like the peace between the races is going well. But in only a matter of days everything changes when Alaric suffers a devastating betrayal and barely gets Lexa and her guards out of the castle alive. Now this group must figure out where to go and what to do while navigating the deadly forests. When those hunting them catch up, it leaves them with no choice but to flee. In a really gross way. But Kellen stays behind to makes sure that Lexa will get home safe. Too bad she can't stand to leave him behind. Her bad timing has her overhearing a betrayal of her own. But it's that occurrence that gives her the strength to do what has to be done. Now to take back Alaric's kingdom before it's too late.

I thought that Alaric's new found skill was really cool. And the way he used it was even better. He may not want to be a king that rules by fear, but after what the majority of his kingdom did, it's what has to be done. And he will have a lot of work to do to fix what his own family had broken.

In the end, all misunderstandings between Kellen and Lexa are worked out. So of course, these two get their happy ending.

This is part of an ongoing series of hawk-humans in a post-nuclear winter landscape. Each book is a romantic installment with an ending so it's enjoyable skips forward in time. It's a fun scifi evening read as the romance author knows her craft and seeks to entertain the reader. This series is fairly light-hearted writing and it hits a bit of the tropes from time to time, but if you enjoy reading scifi romance in general then you will probably like this series.

Three and a half
Well it's kind of post apocalyptic as its a world after nuclear power and experiments have left those who are human and those decidedly 'other'. Lexa has wings and is her people's princess but as this begins Kellan, her guard and the one male she thought she could possibly love has just returned after a year and the timing couldn't be worse from her point of view. Lexa is about to visit the human kingdom with their crown prince Alaric and marrying Alaric would cement the peace between their very different nations but sadly there are forces at work that want nothing less than war !
I perhaps enjoyed the second half much more than the first half because things certainly started happening then. It's not really a love triangle because it's clear who Lexa really cares for but I have to say I really liked Alaric and hope that the author revisits him at some point. I loved the various creatures we met along the way and they certainly made a lasting impression on this story. Unfortunately this isn't my favourite book by this author but it is entertaining and has a very attractive cover.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from NetGalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

I wasn't sure at the very beginning, but I love this authors' writing and knew it would go places and it did! A lot more twists and turns than Cormorant Run and told in multiple POVs.

I'm not sure my ideal love interest is the same as the MC' I was kind of rooting for the other guy and I do hope we get a story centred more on that in the future!

I personally struggle with stand alone books being wrapped up in neat little bows, but that's mostly because I want more, I think I really thrive on cliffhangers!

This has everything you want in an UF book. Secrets, lies, betrayal, political machinations and a slow burn romance that is to die for. Very nice twisty, and some spice for our h/H within a great story. I highly recommend this series.
