As a huge psychological thriller fan I would like to say I enjoyed listening to this book and it definitely started off well , Sarah the lead character is attacked in her back garden but there are no suspects and 3 notes are left all along the lines of " I know what you did " but then the story line fades a bit and the twists and turns are not there
Its an OK listen but it didn't have me sat on the edge of my seat and I had worked out pretty early " What had been done" by the time I found out " Who dunnit" I didn't care
Thank you Netgalley and Bookature Audio for this advance listener copy in exchange for my honest review.
I didn't really like this one. There were too many characters and too much going on. I was under the impression that Maggie, the next door neighbor, was going to have a bigger role and I'm disappointed that she didn't because she was the only character I felt any empathy for. There were a lot of situations that didn't feel remotely plausible. The connections between the characters were shaky at best and I found myself wondering who characters were. It was just a bit of a mess for me. People don't behave in these ways. There was too much shock value thrown in. The writing seemed all over the place and who the heck is Stephanie?? I just couldn't follow. There were so many characters and twists that I felt like my head was spinning. The narrator did okay. I didn't like her voice for Gavin, but it could have been worse.
Two stars because I was able to finish it. There was just way too much going on.
Such a good mystery and kept me on my toes. Rich characters and twisty plots. I would recommend if you like Lisa Jewell
214 Palmer Street by Karen McQuestion, is a domestic drama beginning as Sarah is leaving a note for her husband saying she needs a few days vacation yet she's hiding out in 214 Palmer Street, when the neighbour comes knocking, Sarah has to 'get rid of her' so her work can being.
Well a cracking start and a very listenable to narrator. The plot is a touch laboured, the repetition of of points, like Sarah's head injury felt unnecessary and obvious we were being led astray. However, there were definitely some speedier plot sections which I enjoyed and overall a good story. The drama build up was good for the reveal and the concluding scenes, yet there is still a missing piece of info (what happened to Maggie?) despite the extensive concluding section.
Overall, a good story with a few red herrings, easy to listen to narrator. 3.5*
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture Audio for the ARC.
A thriller about a house, a woman, her husband, and his childhood friends. 214 Palmer Street feels like a unique debut, rather than the work of a seasoned author. While the storyline is certainly clever, with secrets between friends bubbling to the surface, it isn't written as well as it should have been. There's a lot happening in this book, with marital drama, friendship drama, and the outlier perspective of "her." It's cleverly misleading, but far too much going on to keep track of and ultimately, easy to guess due to the amount of information. I liked it, but I didn't love it. Plus, the last four+ chapters should be completely cut out, they take away from the thrill of you trying to guess what really happened, rather than revealing the truth. They feel like an unnecessary epilogue.
Audiobook: The narrator was great, but it would've been better with multiple narrators. It was hard to remember who was speaking, especially with an audio of this length. There's a lot of characters and a handful of narrators, making one voice just not the right fit for this thriller. Otherwise, it was excellent at 1.5x speed.
Was kindly gifted this audiobook on netgalley.
I absolutely loved this book.
It had me on the edge of my seat the entire way through,
The narrators were brilliant and really created the perfect atmosphere.
I didn’t see any of the twists coming and I was so shocked in parts.
After a promising start, I actually struggled to finish this book. It got more repetitive and implausible with every chapter. Unrealistic dialogue, cliche characters, ridiculous plot… The narration was adequate but didn’t make the story any better unfortunately.
I really liked the narrator of this story, there was some interesting characters, some very not likeable however I did find the story a-bit slow and the writing was a little amateur. I read a lot of thriller so found the story was abit predictable but was still a good read.
4/5 ⭐️
Easily one of the better thrillers I’ve read so far this year! I loved the plot of this! The main character annoyed me at times but I was on the edge of my seat throughout the book.
214 Palmer Street was my first novel by Karen McQuestion and I really enjoyed her writing style. It bounced between POVs which is my favorite type of thriller and did an excellent job at developing the characters. I thought the suspense level was very high throughout this which kept me interested in what was going to happen. I did think it was a bit predictable as you can figure out the villain very early on, but that didn't ruin the ending events for me. This was a quick listen but very entertaining. I really couldn't figure out how everything was going to play out until it happened which I appreciate.

Thank you NetGalley for the audio copy in exchange for a honest review. Sarah is hit over the head in a brutal attack and is off work. Then she learns her husband’s old school friend went missing when they were teenagers and she suspects foul play. A fast paced thriller with twists.
Sarah is recovering from a head injury after being attacked in her back yard one night. At least she has the perfect husband who is attentive to her every need as she recovers. But as she builds a real friendship with her physical therapist, she starts to question her husbands motives, and begins to wonder what secrets he is keeping from her. Her search for the truth to uncover these secrets will bring her to 214 Palmer Street.
There were a few plot holes, but nothing that took away from the overall story. A plot-driven story with a lot of twists, this is a book that I would recommend! I'm excited to read more from Karen McQuestion.
Thank you to the author, Bookouture Audio, and NetGalley for an copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. #214PalmerStreet #NetGalley
The plot was a childhood secret between three people, combined with signs of a controlling relationship, sexual rivalry, envious so called friends, a femme fatale and the elephant in the room, the big secret. Bit slow bit got through it. Thank you #NetGalley for the audiobook.
I quickly read and enjoyed this thriller. A mix of likeable and dodgy characters, steadily paced. Will pick up more McQuestion for sure. Enjoyed the narration of this too! Easy to listen to.

Sarah Aiden is married to the love of her life, Kirk Aiden. She feels that everything in her life is absolutely perfect, so perfect that she feels ready to start a family. Then, she suffers a traumatic head injury following someone intentionally hitting her in the back of her head in her own backyard, and Sarah starts to question everything around her. Sarah starts to spend a lot of time at home, with family and starts to questions things about her husband's past. One thing leads to another and before she knows it, she is at Kirk's friends childhood home, trying to uncover a mystery that was never solved.
What I initially thought would be a solid thriller, ended up being a confusing and slow read. I really tried to get into the storyline, but could not.

214 Palmer Street was a war of contradictions for me. I was continually drawn in by the story while being dissatisfied with the formulaic, amateurish writing. I guess the fact that I finished the book and didn't hate it means that the story won out. If you're a thriller junkie, it should entertain, but not the finest crafted novel I've ever read.
A secret that bonds three childhood friends forever. The years pass, and the still water is moved by an outsider who, not knowingly, is about to uncover a decades-long cold case.
I didn't see that coming, an interesting plot twist. But let me start from the beginning. Leading characters - wonderful, loved the short number of the characters that all played a significant role in the novel. Plot - predictable but well build. In an ocean of new thriller novels, it is hard to find an idea that stands out, and the author did a good job keeping the reader intrigued with current and past events. Now, the ending - yet again, pleasantly surprised. So tired of "and they lived happily ever after" endings, thank you Ms. McQuestion for staying away from his part, AND not ending the novel after the major plot twist. It was refreshing to learn of the post twist life of the characters. I am impressed by the writing and the idea of the novel. All in all, this was plenty entertaining read and it moved at a quick pace. Thank you, NetGalley for a free and advanced copy of the novel.
This was an enjoyable listen, the story was engaging and the narrator a pleasure to listen to.
The story was a bit predictable and slow at times but overall I’m glad I listened to it.

The premise of this one on the description was intriguing, the neighbour not knowing if the house sitter was genuine, and a mystery over why the "housesitter" was there, but unfortunately the book didn't match up to this for me.
We learned reasonably quickly why Sarah was in the house and so the mystery wasn't there, and what was left was a bunch of unlikeable characters making non-sensical decisions and generally being unpleasant to each other, before people you thought were horrible anyway turn our to have done (or do) horrible things. No big twists there.
Unfortunately not one I'd recommend.
219 Palmer St is about a woman pretending to be house sitter and over the course of the novel you experience several characters POV’s, all adding up to why she is really there. Okay this book immediately draws you in because it dives right into the story very quickly!! I enjoyed the suspense throughout (I mean not knowing who one of the pov’s was really made it fun) and I never knew which characters I was supposed to be rooting for. I will say that I wish there was one or two less povs because the reader always knew too much info. It really left little room to be surprised by any twists because it was all very predictable. Overall, great storytelling by the author and voice actor but I wish I was more surprised in the end!
