I listened to the audiobook version. Not going to lie, I checked three times if this was an ongoing saga, because the story jumped so quickly at the start, I got lost.

It could have been the narration, but didn’t click for me.

Emma Hart's "Lady Love" is a fun, breezy romance that would satisfy most romance readers. Hart's writing is simplistic, but never boring. The characters are all familiar romance tropes and fodder, and this novel isn't doing anything new. But still. I very much enjoyed it.

Lady Gabriella Hastings is taking horticulture classes that her dad doesn’t know about and moonlighting as an advice columnist on the internet. When her dad finds out about the classes, he makes a deal with Gabby: he will let her design and install her next school project in their gardens. If she gets a good grade, he will stop trying to set her up with every eligible man he knows. Gabby has always had a low-key crush on Miles Kingsley, the gardener on her family’s estate, despite the fact that he seems to be constantly in a bad mood. Miles has strong feelings about the class divides in England and while he works for an aristocratic family to be near his grandfather, he has no interest in getting to know the beautiful daughter of his employer. When Gabby asks Miles for his help with her project, though, the two get to know each other and can’t deny the attraction they are feeling.

This is not my first Emma Hart book, and I really need to remind myself that I always like her blurbs better than her actual books. All of her books have the same tone and voice – if you have read and liked one of her books, you will likely enjoy the others too. I would have liked to have seen more of Gabby’s work as an agony aunt; it seemed like the couple of scenes that mentioned it were added in for no reason.

Many thanks to NetGalley for providing me an audio ARC of this book.

***I received an ARC from Netgalley and the Publisher in exchange for my honest review.***

***I listened to this book via Audiobook.***

Having not read any other work by the author I was not sure what to expect. After reading the description, I assumed this would be a great fit as I love fiction and enjoy stories encompassing varying hierarchies; I mean who doesn’t love to read about a princess and a gardener - forbidden love is always my jam? However, what I got was not a spicy meet-cute like I had hoped. With it’s talk of love languages, horticulture and even Autism in the epilogue, this book was a mix of all the plot ideas in the author’s head captured on paper.

What I liked about this book:
- The secrecy (hierarchy = expectations)
- The meet-cute aspect
- The main character having her own, unique, interests (horticulture)
- The main character and the gardener finding each other due to mutual interest and not simply lust.

What I could have lived without:
-The narrators- this is not a book that I would listen to via audiobook. The gardener always sounded a little bored…
- The Love Languages being brought up at random - it didn’t really fit in well with the rest of the story.
- The additional love story that popped up mid-way through the book.

Overall, could have been a cuter story and, if you decide to read on, go another route; I wish I had skipped the audiobook.

First off thank you NetGalley for giving me the chance to read and review this book!

Lady Love is a lighthearted story of opposites attract. it tells the story about an English lady who loves to garden and her family's gardener. Is it a new classic? No. But it's a sweet easy read. What I didn't really enjoy about his book is it felt like the book was trying to check lot of boxes which made it feel a bit scrambled. The writing is a bit quirky and threw phrases in that made me sit back and say wait what? Not that it didn't fit the situation but that it felt like you were reading a story written by friends hodge podging anecdotes together and seeing what came out. That being said I did enjoy and find myself laughing with some of them because it is really written like someone is thinking. my favorite line

"This is the fundamental problem with being a woman, nobody ever listens to you"

Overall, something I would probably not pick up again but I didn't dread reading it. The cover does not do the story justice. If you a fan of an obvious coupling like Hallmark movies and cheesy lifetime movies you'll enjoy this book. Great palate cleanser in-between heavy thrillers or emotional books. I enjoy a light hearted romance book and this fit the bill.

I am a fan of this author. I have reread her books on many occasions – This is the an audio version. I was exciting about getting this book from NetGalley in exchange for honest review. I did enjoy this listening to this and the narrator was very good. I did like the interaction between H and H. I think they make a good couple and had a great connection. The family interaction added to the story. Many themes touched upon in this story – working class vs society, men vs women, and family expectations and responsibility. Overall, the book was good and liked it. This audio seems to be 1 in a series of books and can we listen or read as a stand alone. I do intend to check out her other books as well.

Review: Lady Love by Emma Hart

Narrated by: Shakira Shute

I voluntarily listened and reviewed an advanced copy of this audiobook. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

First off let's start with the narrator. Narration I would give 5 stars. I loved all of her voices for the characters and I just loved her accent, without her, I don't think the book would have been as fun.

The book itself. I would give the book a 3.5. The book was good as it followed Lady Gabriella as she falls for Miles the Gardner. Though if I had read this book instead of listened to it, I don't think I would have gotten into it. I have read other books, that I much prefer them as an audiobook over a book book.

Overall, I think the narration along with the story gave the book an overall 4 stars.

Set in England, this has an aristocratic theme which means absolutely nothing to Lady Gabriella. Her world is in absolute chaos, and she handles it with some laugh out loud moments and a lot of snarky comments. Her aunt is a hoot who loves to torment Gabby's father by allowing her unruly goats to roam the estate and Gabriella's brother is an immature playboy that will inherit everything just because he's a male. Her father is full of bluster, the butler sneaks into her aunt's room on a regular basis and the grumpy gardener is every girl's dream. For some reason he doesn't seem to like her, and she desperately needs his help for her horticulture class. At least that's the excuse she gives for trying to seek him out. Shakira Shute does a great job with the snarky dialect.

I really liked this book at first. The main character is likeable, well written, just quirky enough to be relatable even though she is a literal lady. I loved her advice column based on love languages. Which seemed important at the beginning and then wasn't really part of the plot at all. It seemed to me like the first 50-60% of the book was thoughtful and engaging and then it just kind of flopped. It was rushed and not well explained. The ending was borderline ridiculous. It just went from something lovely to something too cliche in the course of the page and it really fell apart for me

Lady Love is a modern-day tale of a royal and the gardener. This story evoked images of The Secret Garden for me (but with grown ups), and I imagined Dickon as the grumpy gardener. There wasn't much reliance on modern conveniences in the story, so at times I forgot I was listening to a modern story and not an historical fiction. The audio narration was superb. I loved all of the characters and each had a delightful sense of humor, especially the extra-salty aunt. This was a quick read with a HEA.

I am reviewing the audio version of Lady Love. The narrator does an excellent job on this book and I believe she elevates it above the written version. It is a strong story and I enjoyed listening to it. Thank you NetGalley for a copy to review.

Loved it! What a cute romantic comedy filled with British humor. I loved the chemistry between Gabriella and Miles. I also loved the dynamic of them being in two different classes and having to overcome that obstacle. Great read!

Perfect sweet rom-com! Miles is “hostile” to Gabriella when she says she just tries to be nice to him. Of course they both harbour secret crushes on each other. This story walks through silly situations, real feelings, and growth with them and other members of Lady Gabriella’s family. I enjoyed the supporting cast and the fact that they had a purpose more than just fluff. Highly recommend for a light, fun read!

A sweet enemies to lovers trope. Secrecy, hidden agendas, classism, and more all because of an antiquated class system that some hang on to with every fiber of their being. It made for a fun listen with lovely narration.

Lady Love
by Emma Hart
narrated by Shakira Shute

Another cute romance from Emma Hart! I love the change of setting for her Montana books. There’s something about a British aristocracy romance! I love Emma’s books because the stories are wonderful without too much drama or angst. They are some of my favorite books to read when I’ve read too many heavy books.

The narrator was perfect for the story. Their voice suited the characters really well. And she perfectly conveyed all the feelings and insecurities the MC felt.

DISCLAIMER: I received this book free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

okay so this was super fun, quirky and realistic in terms of a romance. I loved the comedy and I loved the true feelings. the actual "lady love" aspect I feel wasnt explored enough and when it was I loved it. This is a must read series for me!

I adored this book! I was in a little bit of a slump and this book grabbed me immediately! I finished the audiobook in one day because I couldn’t wait to hear more antics from the characters. I’m so glad to hear this will be a series because I’m not ready to say goodbye to these people!!!

Excellent narrator! If I didn’t know it was only one person I would have sworn each character had their own.
