THIS is the thriller we've all been waiting for. I have been needing one like this after having read, or attempted to read, some rather not so thrilling thrillers. This one is what I needed to get me back into the genre that I love so much.

First, I need to tell you about the pacing, because more than anything, that is what makes a good thriller. Payne does an excellent job of keeping the chapters short and the plot moving while still giving us completely fleshed-out characters. I honestly could not put this book down and read it well into the night. I simply had to know what happened next!

Payne also does an excellent job of creating flawed but likable characters. One issue I've had with some books lately is that in effort to make the characters "realistic" the author has simply made them unlikeable. Noelle is the most likable protagonist I've read in a long time. I was rooting for her throughout the novel. She grew so much from a victim who simply wanted to run away into a woman who wasn't taking crap from anyone.

I can't believe this is a debut as Payne is deftly skilled at crafting a pulse-pounding, edge of your seat thriller. I can't wait to read what she writes next.

The premise of this book had me hooked. A woman faking her own kidnapping to escape her abusive boyfriend? Yes, please!

The story was interesting from the start and kept me wanting to know where it was heading. I love when a story has short chapters and this one has them!

The dual points of view gave us good insight into both Noelle and Daniel's characters. I thought they were well done, Daniel's personality really comes off in his chapters. He annoyed me, but it only means the author did a good job! haha
His chapters gave me some 'You' vibes.

One thing I wasn't fond of is Noelle's choices after things take off. They were questionable and leaned toward childish.

There were some scenes with a side character that read like a contemporary romance and I was a bit confused by the tone of them. Yet, it left me wanting more as I really enjoyed this particular character!

The first twist I loved as it caught me off guard. The rest, though, wasn't that surprising. Especially the final reveal. The whole ending sequence felt a bit too convenient for the plot. But, I did enjoy how everything tied up and was explained.

Overall, it's an entertaining story and the author is clearly talented. I would recommend it for those starting out with the genre and wanting a fun story!

"IT'S LIKE THE TRAIN WRECK YOU CAN'T LOOK AWAY FROM" - a quote directly from the book and it fully explains my reaction to the book. A thriller that has sharp ups and downs, but will hold you til the end. I could fully imagine this as a Hulu or Netflix series. Recommend!

I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book started off with the typical villain, the controlling, manipulative, psychopath boyfriend disguised as Mr. Perfect. I just had a hard time believing what he had over this girlfriend. She has her own job, own money, they don't even live together for heaven sack. She puts up with his controlling, abusive manners, and "allows" him to install spyware on her phone, and doesn't remove the "secret" hidden cameras he installed in her own apartment to spy on her. Why? Because she justify it with he's a anesthesiologist who might harm her beloved cousin's baby if she delivers at his hospital? Really? The book was very fast- paced in the beginning ,and had a gripping beginner that got me hooked, and kinda of fizzled out, especially once the twists were introduced. Overall, not bad for a debut.

The idea of this book is great. Obsessive boyfriend, controlling, condescending and Noelle felt trapped. So she came up with a plan…..
The ending definitely had a twist that I didn’t really see coming.
For me, the writing fell a little flat and at times juvenile. I had a hard time putting myself there into the story because it just went a little to far. I believe that the author was going for a cocky, superior tone for the main character-Daniel, but it came out disjointed and juvenile. Some of the antics of the characters just wouldn’t happen, so it was confusing at time. I wish I could have loved this book, it started off strong, and although it was definitely worth finishing-it fell short for me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

3.5 stars rounded up

Dr Daniel Ashcroft was perfect: handsome, romantic, protective. I thought I was so lucky. But then I heard rumours about his previous girlfriend, that she had vanished without trace. That's when I found the cameras in my apartment. I was trapped. Daniel made it clear I couldn't leave him, not without risking everyone that I loved. I had to disappear, so I arranged my own kidnapping.

Dr Daniel Ashcroft is a good looking man who oozes charisma. But he's also a controlling sociopath. He' a doctor at the hospital and that's where he meets Noelle, who's a nurse. The plotline is tense and creepy. There's lots of suspense and the pace is fast. The story started out good, but there was far too many complications which then made me doubt some of the events that took place. This is a good debut novel.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #Bookouture and the author #JessicaPayne for my ARC of #MakeKeDisappear in exchange for an honest review.

WOW, what a ride this was,
Fast paced, edge of your seat, could not put it down.
The end was not at all what I expected.

Noelle escaped an abusive relationship, just to end up in another. In the beginning, Dr. Daniel Ashcroft appeared to be the perfect boyfriend. After only a few months, Noelle, a nurse, began to see his creepy and abusive controlling ways. Desperate to not relive that life again, she happens upon a listing advertising pretend kidnapping services, and plans her kidnapping in order to escape. But things quickly go wrong when she is kidnapped and things aren’t quite what she signed up for. There are so many thrilling and unexpected twists and turns, and ends in a twist I never saw coming!

This book gave me You by Caroline Kepnes vibes. The writing was good and kept you reading, but some things were’t very believable. I felt like the characters and plot were a little underdeveloped, I couldn’t care one way or another what happened to them, though I still found myself turning the pages to see what happened next. It started out strong, but became repetitive and ended up dragging.

For a debut, I’d say it was definitely worth the read and I would recommend it and definitely read more by author Jessica Payne!

I was super excited when I got approved for this because it reminded me of Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris, which is one of my all time favorite thrillers. I love any dark and twisted thriller that focuses on how the abusive person thinks, and this one really focuses on that. I was cringing and uncomfortable any time Daniel had a chapter. Knowing that there are people that think this way and try to control the people they love the way that Daniel does to Noelle, is spine tingling. I thought overall this story was very well done, especially for a standalone. It kept my attention throughout and I enjoyed the way the story was told between Noelle and David. I did end up guessing the twist at the end, and didn't love the explanation for why it all happened, but it didn't bother me that much. Overall, this was a great debut thriller and I would love to read more by her when they come out!

I just reviewed make me disappear by Jessica Payne

Noelle has seen red flags in a relationship before and she will be damned if she stays in this one any longer, the problem is Daniel isn't going to let her go.. her aunt mysteriously dies after a successful heart surgery… his ex-girlfriend goes missing but who could suspect the handsome doctor..

He sees everything with the cameras he snuck into her home and the spying apps on her phone… what he didn't see was a woman hell bent on getting out alive…

Whoa this book! Whoooaaaa! Loved every thrilling word of it. Twistier than a vine looking for light in a dense forest, this rollercoaster ride had my heart racing the entire time!
Noelle was fantastic. Just the right amount of strength and vulnerability. I wouldn't have gone to the lengths she did but she was so clever.
Totally did not see the twists coming!!
Loved the pace, it was consistent and amped up where it needed to. Expertly written and never lets up! I've read some really good thrillers in my time and this one is one of the greats!
The ending was amazing and I was not disappointed. If you love a good thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end… you need to add this one to your TBR right now!
5 stars!

I've been awake all night reading this gripping, twisted thriller..I just couldn't put it down. Noelle, a young nurse struggles to escape her toxic relationship with controlling doctor boyfriend and arranges her own kidnap. Things don't go to plan though and there ensues a nightmarish struggle, where she nor we, know who to trust . A really complex, multi layered storyline that is utterly compulsive reading. Highly recommend

Sadly not what I thought it was going to be. Totally unbelievable, disjointed and lacking depth.

The first quarter I found interesting, told across two timelines from Noelle and Daniel’s perspective of how they met and their current situation. However, I struggled to feel any intensity of trouble between the pair and found it totally ridiculous that she was willing to pretend she didn’t know he’d put cameras inside her house. I kept saying ‘just take them down and see how he reacts, he doesn’t live with you so it’ll be hard to reinstate them once you know that’s what he wants.’

The two plots lines concerning her aunt and cousin were a bit weak. I have a very small family of 6 and we are extremely close (just like Noelle was to her aunt and cousin). There’s nothing I can’t confide in them and they would know if I wasn’t happy, why would you pretend otherwise - especially if a risk to life is concerned?

Noelle hires a PI to look into her aunts untimely death. It would appear that Seattle only has one PI as Daniel’s hires her too and she has no issue with client confidentiality being broken.

Noelle quickly realises Daniel’s accessing her emails. Urghhh… change your passwords Noelle! And when you’re browsing use a private browser or go to an Internet cafe… not your phone! For someone who suddenly becomes a super sleuth she doesn’t think anything through or have much of a plan.

Which brings be round to the ending. There’s a lot of repetitive inner monologue and a lot of repeating when it comes to the why she is doing this. Which had the threat been more real then it wouldn’t have been required. I didn’t understand why, after painting Daniel as a psycho throughout the book we suddenly had to believe he was misguided, manipulated and didn’t intend for any of his actions to be interpreted in any other way than loving.

All in all I was very disappointed with the book and sad to write such a poor review after it started so well! Thanks to NetGalley for my advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

Overall this was a good read, I was hooked at the beginning then around the middle I felt it got a bit flat and repetitive but then it got me interested again and it was an exciting twisty read with a good ending and I felt the characters were well described, not all likeable though.

I can definitely recommend this book and thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC copy.

As if this is a debut thriller! I am absolutely astounded this is a debut, because it is truly exceptional. It has everything a thriller fan wants in a novel- strong characters (and these are seriously intense and creepy) a protaganist you root for, and the fast pace and twists to keep you reading into the night. The thrills through this book are crazy. A little (a lot) messed-up crazy, but also crazy-good.
I adored this, and I will now read anything Jessica Payne writes. She is a thriller writer to watch.
Thrilling read.

What a great debut! Just when you think there can’t be too many new ways to spin a psychological suspense along comes something totally original like this.

Noelle thought she had met the perfect man in anaesthetist Dr Daniel Ashcroft at the hospital where she works as a nurse in Seattle. Handsome, wealthy, suave and romantic he swept her off her feet. At first his desire to protect her was also sweet but gradually crossed the line into being controlling and coercive, especially when she discovered his hidden cameras in her apartment. Daniel’s previous girlfriend had been reported missing and was never found, so when he started making veiled threats about ruining her career or hurting her family if she left him, she came up with a radical plan to escape from his grasp.

The narrative is told alternately from Noelle’s and Daniel’s point of view and is not only suspenseful but also very entertaining as Noelle tries not only to escape from Daniel but also to cause him some grief. With great characters, lots of twists and an exciting ending, perhaps somewhat far fetched, but totally fun and addictive reading.

In a digital world where it's so easy to track and watch what someone does. Daniel is a protective boyfriend, overwhelmingly watchful of what his girlfriend does at all times of the day. He set up cameras in her apartment and sits at home watching her every move. Noelle knows this and now thinks her once perfect boyfriend is not so perfect. She believes he killed her aunt and will eventually go after her pregnant cousin. She comes up with a plan to finally be free of him and to protect her cousin but of course nothing goes to plan.

Chapters go between Daniel and Noelle, past and present. All those little things that she did not catch but when looking back sees how manipulative he can be. This book is a page-turner, it can be a little uncomfortable but just from the fact what kind of man Daniel is and how obsession can be the downfall of his relationship with Noelle. He has only had three girlfriends, one has disappeared, and to this day there is no information about what really happened to her. Some twists and turns along the way that I for one did not expect which was a nice surprise as there are many books similar to this type. It has a good ending and doesn’t end in the way you might expect when you start reading. I guessed throughout the book on what would happen and how it would turn out but there are small clues to help you guess but you might not see it until a certain moment in the end.

Make Me Disappear started out very strong! A hero main character who you can’t help but root for, however; she makes a series of not so great choices that lands her in hot water quickly. She orchestrates her own kidnapping just to get away from her possessive boyfriend. What follows is a long journey of running and uncertainty. At times I got a little confused, especially as to WHY her boyfriend was the way he was. I chalked it up to mommy issues, which is pretty much on the nose. The pacing was great, the tone was hectic (which I liked) and it kept me on my toes. Solid 3 stars.

This was the first book I’ve read by this author and it won’t be my last. A very clever well written storyline that grips you from the start. Lots of twist and turns in this one, which I love! Make me disappear kept me engaged and guessing until the very end. A very solid 4 stars for me ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Overall a great, easy read! This book had a lot of twists and turns along the way.

Noelle is in an abusive relationship and needs to get away from her narcissistic boyfriend and co-worker, Dr. Daniel Ashcroft. The only way to do this is to plan her disappearance via kidnapping, but suddenly someone kidnaps her before her plan can fall into place.
I loved the way this book went back and forth between Noelle & Daniel's point of view. It really drew you in to both sides of the story and got you inside the head of a true psychopath (Daniel).

Only 4 stars because right from the start I did guess correctly who kidnapped her, as there weren't as many characters introduced in the book to throw you off your game.
