What a unique plot line!! Noelle is a nurse involved in a relationship with an incredibly controlling and manipulative anesthesiologist named Daniel. In order to completely end the relationship and protect her family she decides to "fake" her own kidnapping. Noelle suspects Daniel of being involved in the death of her Aunt and will protect her pregnant cousin Kari at all costs. What is supposed to be a "fake" kidnapping turns out to be a real one and as the reader we are in for twists and turns that you couldn't predict. While I really enjoyed the storyline itself I felt like certain parts seemed too obvious/predictable. If you are looking for a book that will hold your interest and carve time out of your schedule to finish then this is the book for you. Thank you to Jessica Payne, Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC.
Noelle is a nurse in a relationship with Daniel the handsome, charismatic man who has money. He knows the effect that he has on those around him, Noelle has Found that Daniel is not the kind charismatic man everyone thinks he is. He is a controlling man who installs cameras in her home and tracking devices on her phone. He threatens to harm her only relative, Karli who is pregnant if Noelle threatens to do anything he doesn’t approve of. When Noelle finds that one of Daniel’s previous girlfriends went missing Noelle takes drastic action by arranging to have herself kidnapped.
I enjoyed this story although it took a little while to get going. The story is told from both Noelle’s and Daniel’s point of view. I thought that some parts were totally unrealistic but I really didn’t mind that as I could see that some things were there to move the plot forward. It shows really well how highly intelligent women can get themselves in these controlling relationships. The ending for me was quite unexpected although I really should have been able to guess.
This was an excellent read. Very gripping thoughout and not too predictable. Shall look out for this author in the future.
This is a great read from Jessica Payne. and what a debut! Noelle is in a relationship with Daniel.. He is a charismatic doctor that everyone loves but Noelle is living in fear. She fears for herself and her family. She realises she has to disappear and organises to have herself kidnapped but then all the troubles start!
This book is filled with tension and loaded with twists and turns. It is told from two viewpoints and through tow different timelines. It is slow to start but once it does it is a thrilling ride.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for granting me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book was a roller coast ride of twists and turns! Never saw the ending coming! Thoroughly enjoyed this debut novel and will be looking forward to her next book!
A slow start of setting up the scene but once you get into it, it is a full on fast paced thriller with plenty of twists. Reading from both perspectives was well done. Fantastic ending
3.75-4⭐️
A debut psychological thriller by this US author. It’s a decent debut.
Having escaped one abusive relationship Noelle finds herself in an abusive controlling relationship with Dr Daniel Ashcroft. She has hired a PI to try and get evidence of his criminal activity, now
she is trying to plan her escape. She arranged her own kidnapping.
The narrators are Noelle and Daniel, and it’s told in 2 time frames from their first meetings a year earlier to the present.
The first part is slow, it’s sets the scenario, Noelle learns that she’s not the first ‘victim’ in Daniel’s life. We also get to know his mother.
Then the kidnapping occurs, only it doesn’t go to plan!
To say that Noelle’s ‘saviour’ is suspicious is an understatement. It’s a case of her not knowing who she can trust.
There’s several twists and turns in the second half which brings it to a satisfying conclusion.
It was an enjoyable read.
Wow wow wow! When I started this book I for some reason didn't have very high expectations but wow, it hooked me in at the very start. I thought I knew which direction it would go but the plot kept surprising me! I did put it mostly all together before the ending but I still loved finding out how it was going to work out at the end. I seriously could not put this down! What an excellent debut novel!
An excellent psychological thriller. This is one of those plots that is a bit surreal that either flops or works. For this book it definitely worked.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the copy of Make Me Disappear. What a fantastic debut novel! Noelle and Daniel were such great characters. I’m not sure either of them come off as being likable, but we really get inside their heads. Daniel is deliciously creepy and Noelle is understandably conflicted about who to trust. The writing just drew me into the story, and the story was really inventive and masterfully executed. This was really a page-turner because there were so many things going on and it was hard to know what was really happening. 4.5 stars rounded up to five.
Finally, a true psychological thriller! The author managed to hook me in the first few lines & if it wasn’t for pesky things like work, I would’ve finished this in one sitting. The 2 separate POVs were masterfully done. A fantastic debut!
This book was engrossing and honestly pulled me in from page one. This book is told from 2 perspectives Noelle and Daniel. Lots of twists and turns I wasn't anticipating and a definite surprise ending that I didn't expect! Amazingly addictive debut novel!
I received this ARC in exchange for my honest review
Wow! I went into Make Me Disappear pretty blind and am glad I did. This was a great, if incredibly implausible and somewhat frustrating, debut thriller about a woman trying to escape from her gaslighting, controlling boyfriend. I liked the alternating POVs of Noelle and Daniel, and the pacing was great, causing me to speed through reading to find out what happened. Noelle was definitely a frustrating character at times, making terrible decisions that just made me want to shake her. I do wish we got some chapters with Jack's POV, as I would have liked his character to be more developed. I did guess part of the twist, but overall it was still a pretty satisfying ending, despite some very unbelievable events and maybe a few too many moving pieces. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC of this great book! I can't wait to see what the author comes out with next.
Fast-paced domestic thriller.. Noelle is in a controlling relationship with anaesthetist Daniel, and has suspicions about the disappearance of his previous girlfriend. She goes to extreme measures to extricate herself from the relationship, but her plans go awry. All the people around her are not as they seem, and Noelle struggles to know who to trust. There are a couple of good twists.
First off, Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for allowing me to read and honestly review this digital ARC of Make Me Disappear.
I always enjoy a good page turner, this one absolutely was full of suspense and action, making it a face paced read. Not the most unique story but Noelle's story definitely help my attention. Similar to feel as gone girl. and well written
This debut from Jessica Payne is a sharp, edge of your seat psychological thriller that keeps you guessing at the end the whole way through. It's worth going into it as blindly as possible, but if you love vengeful thrillers with powerful female leads, you can know that you will absolutely love Make Me Disappear.
I was nervous about this one at first and went in with no expectations. I'm happy to report that I got really taken up by the drama and the tension Payne builds and found myself racing towards the end!
Noelle is a nurse dating an emotionally manipulative and condescending dirtbag of a doctor. From the jump we know she wants out and I was rooting for her to get there. We learn how he weaseled his way into her life and frankly I was impressed by her idea to get away. Things go off the rail though because of course they do and that was when I got hooked.
The conclusion was satisfying and Payne thankfully doesn't forget to tie up loose ends (avoiding a pet peeve of mine). I'll be recommending this to my thriller fans who want action from toe to tip with dashes of twists and turns.
This book had a lot of promise though this particular trope has been done a bit already, I was still all in. I thought that the first 30-35% was interesting but after that I just felt confused about the plot, which just became more and more unbelievable. Overall though, I enjoyed it and if you can suspend disbelief over some of the things that go on in the book, you'll be entertained.
Emotional abuse in a relationship. Dr Daniel Ashcroft and his girlfriend Noelle. Noelle can take no more of this abuse. She needs to escape but she knows that if she leaves he will find her. Noelle comes up with a hair brained scheme which goes horribly wrong and she is now on the run. The best bit of this book was when Noelle decides to take everything away from her abusive partner. Predictable, definitely over the top but still a thoroughly entertaining read.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.
From the stellar reviews I was expecting a great thriller. Unfortunately, the story fell flat for me right from the beginning. I found it slow and cumbersome. The introduction from the protagonist was boring and long-winded. This was a pass for me.
