I really enjoyed this book, it kept me entertained and I read it in a couple of days, it’s certainly one to take with you to the beach this summer
Noelle needs to escape from her super obsessive and controlling boyfriend, Dr. Daniel Ashcroft, and she decides her only option is to disappear by staging herself getting kidnapped. From here, we’re taken on one twisty ride! This one sucked me in from the very first page, and I couldn’t put it down even at times when things just weren’t very realistic. But, even so, I thoroughly enjoyed this one and totally didn’t expect the ending. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
I was grateful to receive an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest review! Make Me Disappear was a book that had me flipping pages as fast as I could to get through the tension and expertly paced plot! The ending was completely satisfying and would 100% read this author again!
Thank you to Netgalley, Bookouture, and Jessica Payne for the advanced e-copy of Make Me Disappear.
This book was amazing and hard to put down. The plot was fantastic, and the characters were well developed and thought out.
The story alternates between the two main characters' perspectives. It was interesting to see the story from each of their points of view and how it shapes their feelings and decisions.
This book was a fast-paced, thriller and the ending was unexpected. I highly recommend reading Make Me Disappear and look forward to reading many more books by Jessica Payne.
The author grabbed my attention in the first few pages and I could not put this book down. The story was suspenseful, gave viewpoints of the two main characters and flowed very well. I look forward to more stories like this from Jessica Payne.
Dual timeline and POV. This twisty thriller will keep you guessing. Who is Dr. Daniel Ashcroft? What happened to aunt Bea? Follow Noelle as she navigates her heart and head through a manipulative relationship. Typically titles like this are hard for me to follow, but it is written in such a way that you are never wondering who is speaking and in what time period. I usually guess the plot twist by about 50% but this one had me stuck until around 75%! I absolutely devoured it.
I received an arc copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. Noelle comes up with a plan to try to get away from her controlling and abusive boyfriend. I thought this book was just okay. I figured it out about halfway through but there were some twists. It was a little heavy on the foul language for me too.
It was a great debut novel!! Nice a twisty. Enjoyed it!
I will DEF READ MORE OF HER BOOKS
Her bf was crazy. But the table turning is the best part of this book
A good read, especially as a debut novel.
Daniel is a handsome doctor who appears to be controlling his girlfriend with cameras in her apartment and spyware on her phone and his previous girlfriend disappeared.
Noelle is the new girlfriend who is trying to extricate herself from the relationship.
It’s written with alternating chapters telling the story from each perspective and it’s a decent debut with some good twists.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookoutre for the opportunity to preview.
This is my first book by this author...Wow! I could not put it down! The storyline goes back and forth between Daniel, a very controlling doctor who thinks he's perfect, and Noelle, who is his current girlfriend who's trying to get out from under his clutches. He watches her every move, from putting Spyware on her phone to cameras in her apartment. All she wants to do is disappear and have control of her life again, but can she find a way with Daniel knowing her every move?
This is a must read! What a suspenseful page turner!
Gripping story alternates between narrators. Reads like an episode of Dexter or You - fans of those shows will definitely enjoy this book.
Noelle has tried to end things - but this time she must get out. Desperate enough to hire a company who kidnaps clients to give them the real experience.
Except someone else kidnaps Noelle.
Daniel controls Noelle - even installing cameras in her apartment, his refusal to allow Noelle friends.
The narrators do an amazing job creating their voices- especially Daniel. His narcissism, controlling personality is lent incredible creep factor. Well done.
I cannot wait for this author's next release.
This was such a fun read, really far fetched but really did it for me as just wanted to see how it would go. It did go where I thought it would. I am not going to go into the plot as this has been done by the publishers and other reviewers but it is a good listen. Another one where you did have to concentrate especially at the beginning with the two timelines and then when the two points of view were brought in - at least by then it was mainly one timeline.
I was given an advance copy by the publishers and netgalley but the review is entirely my own.
Talk about a truly crazy/suspenseful/intense domestic thriller! So much going on within the story! So many twists and turns that you will be shaking your head wondering where the heck is the author taking you.
Make Me Disappear is a psychological thriller that is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat!
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions and thoughts expressed are my own.
I began hearing a little buzz around this book was super excited to read it. I love a book full of twists and turns and the unexpected. This book has all the elements of a great book but it just fell short for me. I was looking for a blockbuster and this felt more like a movie of the week. The characters were all unlikable and there was very little character development. If you're looking for something fast paced with family drama and lots of twists this may be for you. Maybe it was just one or two twists too many for me. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for an ARC in exchange for my honest review. 3 stars.
Make Me Disappear - Jessica Payne
I've seen a lot of rave reviews for this book and my fear of missing out meant I had to read it.
Noelle and Daniel are a couple. He's a well-respected handsome Doctor, she's a nurse. He's an obsessive controlling partner, and she is desperate to escape.
She finds a professional prank kidnap service and starts to plan a getaway...
Told through alternate chapters from each of their perspectives, I don't remember a book featuring the controlling main partner's viewpoint, so some originality points there.
There's a good flow and pace especially early on as it all gets set up. I was thinking something like Linwood Barclay with a woman's touch. Most chapters features little reveals or twists and it jogs along.
So all good, but the second half didn't grab me as much as the first, perhaps it didn't step up the tension enough or increase or vary the pace to keep me on my toes.
I enjoyed it overall, not the deepest, but I think this would be a really good holiday read.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture
A fantastic debut from Payne which has everything you'd expect from the pen of a seasoned author in a psychological thriller.
Make Me Disappear is fast paced, adrenalin filled, compelling and totally unputdownable. It's told in dual person POV, cleverly written and certainly holds your attention.
I've read about about people who plan their own kidnap and I've often wondered why, but after reading this I kinda get it, although wouldn't do it myself.
The characterisations were well developed, heavily flawed and very messed up, but they worked!
A highly enjoyable, intense read that I would highly recommend.
Many thanks to Bookouture for my tour spot.
Rating ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Make Me Disappear was so twisty and entertaining that I ended up reading it in one sitting. Yup, totally put the adulting on hold. Told from dual POVs, this was a fast paced psychological thriller that kept you on a steady and twisty ride. Also loved that it had some LOL moments, for me anyways. This book gave me the same vibes as The Perfect Marriage or Alex Six, both of which I loved as well. So grab a bottle of wine, make some popcorn and just sit back and enjoy the ride!
What the shiitake mushrooms!!! This is a debut!!!
If you think Joe from YOU by Caroline Kepnes is charming as well as completely deranged, just wait until you meet Dr Daniel….
This has dual narration told in the first person from Noelle and Daniel. Noelle is a nurse, while Daniel is an anaesthetist. With a jumping timeline we watch their relationship skip between charming and caring to extreme controlling behaviour. The author has been careful in showing how the behaviour is gradual and how friends and family are distanced until the victim has nowhere left to turn. What he didn’t count on though was Noelle being no ordinary victim and having a hidden card up her sleeve in the form of arranging her own extreme kidnapping.
While in romance books I love a happy ever after, it’s a different story when it comes to thrillers. I am discovering more and more how much I love a good bad guy. Daniel was perfectly written, his narration showing just how truly warped he is.
This is where I ask you to take this as the pure entertainment it is, just like YOU. Yes Noelle is a bit of a doormat at times and there were more warning signs here than at a notorious black spot. But, and this is a big but, there were also some really dastardly twists and the characters wow what a bunch of twisted, mentally unhinged crazies. There was so much more going on than Noelle had figured out and seeing the realisation slowly starting to dawn on her was brilliant. There’s not many books I shout at but fudge nuggets I did at this one!
Make me Disappear is told in dual narrative by Noelle and Daniel, it's a fast paced read with short chapters. The storyline was quite original, compared to the thrillers I’ve read before. And the writing style was simple and efficient.
Interesting characters. Interesting story. A plot that moves and doesn't become stale or boring. Some nice twists along the way that lead to a final twist that I didn't see coming. I tend to figure things out pretty quickly in books despite the misdirections.
Overall, a very intense and great story.
