This is Jessica Payne's debut novel and one you don't want to miss. It's a page turner for sure.
A woman and man dating. A nurse and doctor to be more clear. Noelle is a well loved nurse who is in a relationship with a well respected doctor Daniel Ashcroft. Daniel wants to ask Noelle to marry him. He wants them to start a life together. The perfect life. Give his mother grandchildren. Make a home. But something is not quite right with their relationship. He's a bit too controlling. He keeps very close tabs on Noelle. Knows everything she does. She already knows how he is doing these things but he has no idea. Noelle needs to get away. Far away. He's already "lost" two girlfriends. One missing and one who managed to get away.
While Noelle does go to a bit of an extreme to escape it's understandable under the circumstances. She has to disappear and never be seen again or he could very well kill someone she loves. The only family she has left. Her cousin Kari. Could Daniel be so cruel as to take away her cousin. Could he have been involved in her aunts death. The best thing is for Noelle to fake a kidnapping and never be heard from again. But things will take a turn. A turn that she did not see coming.
This book is told from Noelle and Daniel's perspectives. Each tells what is happening and what did happen. Daniel only wants her back. He only wants them to have a life together. To make his mother happy by giving her a grandchild. Who is Dr Daniel Ashcroft exactly. What is he truly capable of. Is he truly a cold blooded man who will do anything to get what he wants. Or is he being set up.
This is a great story. A little over the top in places but still keeps you on edge in a few places. Quite a few places. You will want to like characters that you can't figure out. You will despise some. In the end you will probably hate a couple of them. I sure did. I also didn't much like the cousin. She was swayed way too easy for the person you meet at first. I did figure out who was behind it all but I usually do. It did not take away from the book at all.
I think Jessica Payne has done a splendid job with this book and I look forward to more. This being a debut only leaves room for even better. At least I hope. This one is truly good. It's a page turner.
Thank you #NetGalley, #JessicaPayne, #Bookouture for this ARC. This is my own true feelings about this book.
4/5 stars and I recommend it highly.
This debut novel was such a fun read!
Noelle is in a relationship with Daniel, a doctor at the same hospital where she is a nurse. At first, she can't believe her luck in finding someone who is handsome, charming, and treats her like a queen. But what at first seemed like attention turns to control and Noelle has to find a way out. While she concocts her escape plan, it sets other things in motion that have Noelle on the run - and she's not alone.
It doesn't help that Noelle's close family is unreachable - her aunt she was so close to is dead, her pregnant sister may be in danger if Noelle reaches out to her, and Noelle isn't sure who she can trust.
To appreciate this book, you must really suspend your disbelief, but the characters are interesting and it's a quick read, with a guessable but twisty ending!
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for introducing me to this new author!
Noelle feels trapped in her controlling relationship with Daniel and is looking for a way out. Attempting to break up with him backfired before, leading Noelle to jump to more drastic measures. It started all according to the plan, but then it all goes horribly wrong and it seems that her unhealthy relationship is not the only thing that is trapping Noelle.
This was a fun book! The changing time periods and the various points of view made it move quickly. There were so many moving parts and so many questions, that I was hooked and could not stop because I just needed to find out what was going on.
I also had the opportunity to listen to the audiobook version of Make Me Disappear and I am so glad that I did. The multiple narrators were great for the characters. Their narration was clear and full of emotion that fit perfectly with the storyline.
Thank you to NetGalley, Publisher, and Jessica Payne for providing me advanced copies in exchange for my honest review.
Two storylines - Noelle in the past and in the present. Noelle in the past has met a great doctor and is in the process of falling in love. Noelle in the present is on the run and the past doesn't look so great. And while both storylines are going on, the reader can't trust anyone's viewpoint because the author wrote it just right!
I am finnicky when it comes to unreliable narrators sometimes the author does it just right and I love it from start to finish and sometimes its done poorly and I honestly have no idea how to differentiate between the two! In this book, it was great partly because I honestly didn't feel like I could trust any of the characters. All had motive to deception, but I also had a little empathy and sympathy for them all - they were written so well.
While I may have guessed the culprit a little early, but only because I have become quote the mystery/thriller reader, I still enjoyed the journey of this book. And to find out after finishing that this was a debut was a fun treat and I wish for so many more winded tales from Jessica Payne.
I saw Jessica advertising her new book on a Facebook group I am on, and it sounded intriguing, so I got myself a copy pronto. It was as good as I expected and even better, a debut novel, which I hadn't realised before and I love to read. New authors add tremendous value to the mix, and while they aren't as experienced as others, I appreciate their fight to get their first book deal and the excitement of holding their novel in their hands for the first time.
This book is completely over the top and implausible. You must suspend your belief in the real world for a while to make it work fully, but it's a great book!
Noelle is a nurse and is dating the hot, steamy, and brilliantly rich anaesthetist, Dr Daniel Ashcroft. He is the hospital's answer to Dr Dreamy in Gray's Anatomy. She has scored big time, and they have been having an excellent relationship until she realises that it's not all that it has seemed. Noelle realises the only way to escape is to take drastic action, so she does.
The plot is far-fetched and a little crazy, but I enjoyed reading this rollercoaster ride, full of twists and turns and things you would have never seen coming. I felt a little confused at points and began to wonder what was going on and what to believe. However, some great scenes depict the cat and mouse type chase where Daniel tries to find Noelle and save her, or at least bring him home and back under his control.
The characters are well developed. You can feel Noelle's fear and Daniels's desperation to get her back, get married and move forward with their lives. His mother is a brilliant piece of work.
I don't want to say too much to ruin the story or the ending, but the end is full of more twists, a massive couple that you didn't see coming!
Make Me Disappear doesn't feel realistic or believable, but it is brilliantly written and will;l; keep you entertained for hours!
Make Me Disappear is a stellar!
Seriously, what a debut!
Thank you @netgalley and @bookouture for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Feeling trapped, Noelle takes some desperate measures to escape her fate. Not knowing that by doing so, she will set foot on a very dangerous path.

This is a page turning physcological thriller, I could not put it down although I guessed some of the plot I still could not stop reading this book. It is well written and keeps you engaged from start to finish. I am really looking forward to reading more from Jessica Payne 5/5 stars
Make Me Disappear is the story of Noelle and Daniel. Daniel is controlling and wants Noelle to be the perfect almost wife. Noelle will do anything to get away from Daniel’s controlling ways.
This is a delightful story to read. I mean that the writing was excellent and the plot was as well. I was surprised several times in the book. It kept me engaged and I had a hard time putting it down. The ending is one I did not see coming!
Make Me Disappear was a fast-paced and exciting thriller. There was no doubt that it was a page-turner. I loved the dual perspective. I only had an issue with the female character, Noelle playing high school like games with Daniel as acts of revenge. I did not understand it
There is a predictable ending to the plot, but I was entertained and had a good time. This was an entertaining debut. I look forward to reading more from this author
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the Advanced Reader Copy of this book. This was an honest review.
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC of Make Me Disappear by Jessica Payne.
Noelle is a nurse, who's life is absolutely perfect on paper. Her husband is a handsome and wealthy doctor, and just loves and dotes on Noelle. So then why is Noelle working SO hard to run from Daniel? What exactly is Daniel hiding, and is Noelle in danger?
This is a slow unfold, switching from past and present timelines, to see just how Noelle and Daniel got in the position that they're in now. I enjoyed the unique directions in went and was definitely caught unexpected.
But the complicated part, which is hard to talk about without giving spoilers was first, the absurd unbelievability of it, and also perhaps excusing really problematic behavior? Either way, both of those things were so big, that by the end of the book I had a hard time feeling much, but I was impressed at how the author was able to pull off something quite different.
I’m so often astounded at how brilliant debut books can be, and this one by Jessica Payne rates really high on my list of reads from debut authors! It ticks every box on the “Wow Factor” list!
Noelle is finally living her dream. She’s met gorgeous doctor, Daniel Ashcroft at the hospital where she works as a nurse and he’s everything she’s been looking for: handsome, thoughtful, caring and protective. OK, so maybe he’s a little bit too close to his mom, Eve and it’s possible that she’s slightly controlling, but Noelle tells herself she can overlook these details and learn to live with them if it means she gets her man.
But then the cracks start to show. There are rumours about Daniel’s ex-girlfriend who disappeared, and Noelle starts to feel uncomfortable that he always wants to know where she is, who she talks to. Is he keeping tabs on her? He even synchronizes their work schedules at the hospital. She’s already escaped from one abusive relationship and she’s on the alert. There are a lot of red flags here that she recognizes and she starts to think that her dream has turned into a nightmare. How is she going to get out of Daniel’s clutches when he seems to control every second of her life, even when she’s not with him?
By a stroke of luck, Noelle happens to overhear a snippet of conversation in a coffee shop and learns that you can arrange your own kidnapping! It’s just what she needs to extricate herself from her situation, so she finds out what she needs to do and sets things in motion, ready to disappear and start a new life, free of Daniel and his constant control. She has no idea that this will set of an explosive chain of events that nobody could have anticipated.
This is a breathtaking, page-turning, stay-up-all-night thriller! It’s told in alternating chapters from both Noelle’s and Daniel’s points of view so that you see and understand the story from both perspectives. Getting into Daniel’s headspace is especially fascinating, as seeing things from his warped, obsessive, self-absorbed viewpoint really does give you a clear picture of what Noelle is trying to escape.
There are so many twists and turns that at times I was left wondering what on earth was happening now and where things would go from here? It all seemed to become so incredibly convoluted that I felt my brain was on overload. I have no idea how the author kept up with herself, her characters and her plot! I’m imagining millions of yellow sticky-notes and a ton of squiggly lines on a massive wall-chart somewhere (and I want to see all of it!)
It’s a brilliant, very clever, 5- star read and I can’t wait to see what Jessica Payne has in store for us next!
I was fortunate to be invited to join the blog tour for this debut book by Bookouture.
The book reminded me a lot of the TV series "You" and also Hustle.
The book is told in the present day and in flashbacks during the last 12 months with narrators Noelle and Daniel. There are significant content warnings in this book for coercive control. I wasn't sure how the book was going to end and was taken aback at one point as the story totally changed direction!
One of my favourite quotes:
"We weren't engaged. We were looking at rings, but not because I thought it was a good idea."
What a fun thrill ride! As a long time Nurse who worked with Anesthesiologists, this made it even more fun. Totally unputdownable and if you like thrillers, you’ll love this one. Don’t start it too late, because you’ll stay up! Kidnapping, murder, twists around every corner! Excellent debut and I can’t wait for more from Payne.
Thank you to the publisher for my e-ARC. All thoughts are my own.
Wow…what a ride! I never wanted to put this read down. I felt as if I was right in the room with Daniel, Noelle, Kari, and Jack. They each came alive and Jessica Payne created realistic portrayals of real people that evoke strong feelings. Non stop action and tension ratchet up the suspense, while the alternating points of view kept me engaged throughout. I so love gems like this book that tell a story that just envelops you and makes you wish you could curl up and finish it in one sitting.
Many many thanks to Jessica Payne, Bookouture, and NetGalley for affording me the distinct pleasure of an arc that was a total joy to read. You have a new fan Jessica Payne. This book was just published on May 16th. For me it was right up there with Girl on the Train. Keep writing please!
Did I guess the ending of this novel about halfway through? Yes. Did I also enjoy the ever loving shit out of this book? Also yes.
MAKE ME DISAPPEAR, by @jessicapayne.writer, follows Noelle as she learns her ever so perfect boyfriend, Dr. Daniel Ashcroft, is not all what he seems. Wanting to get away from him, she'll do anything. Literally ANYTHING. But her plan is stopped and craziness ensures, in true thriller fashion.
Multiple POVs. A main character I was rooting for. Daniel was an asshole but I was intrigued as to WHY he was like that and that's fully explained. The ending was pretty satisfying.
And honestly? This book flew by. Short chapters made me very very happy.
Of course I'm giving this book 3 stars because some of it was just so outlandish but it's still a fun read!
MAKE ME DISAPPEAR is available now.
Thank you to @netgalley and @bookouture for my free e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Noelle is a nurse who has been dating Dr. Daniel Ashcroft for about a year. He is an anesthesiologist who is handsome and makes very good money. Noelle was thrilled when he first asked her out. She fled her last relationship with Michael because he abused her.
Noelle’s aunt is very good to her and she is close to her cousin, Kari, who is 33 weeks pregnant.
Noelle is beginning to question her relationship with Daniel as he expects her to follow his rules and do as he says. She is also expected to have lunch with his mother every week. When she realizes that Daniel has placed cameras in her apartment to spy on her, she is determined to escape him. When her aunt dies unexpectedly after heart surgery, she can’t help but think that Daniel had something to do with it. So, she concocts a plan to flee but something goes wrong and now she’s truly in trouble.
This is a good book which is twisty and surprises me in the end. Daniel is a perfectly created character that is controlling, conceited, arrogant, and thinks of himself as God. Some of his personality is also pathetically funny. I hope readers will enjoy this book as much as I did.

A really good debut book, well done Jessica Payne.
Some twists and turns along the way, and a plot that doesn't let you put the book down.
Very enjoyable and I hope we see more of Jessica's books in the future.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for an ARC in return for an honest review.
Make Me Disappear is a thriller by Jessica Payne. It is told through the dual perspectives of Noelle and Daniel. The story follows Noelle, who is the girlfriend of controlling and psychologically abusive Daniel. Noelle, in an effort to escape Daniel's control, sets up a fake kidnapping. However, when she is kidnapped for real, she must figure out how to survive and fight back.
This book took me a little bit to get into, probably about halfway. Some of it was, in part, due to the need to suspend belief in the first half. By the second half, things were coming together and tying up pretty well, but in the first half things seemed a little outlandish. The other part, also along the lines of outlandish, was the character of Daniel. His internal monologue and thoughts felt a little over the top.
About halfway through, something changed for me. I don't know if I just acclimated to the story, characters, and writing style at that point, if I let go of my skepticism, or if something just finally clicked in the plot for me. But ultimately, the second half I greatly enjoyed. I loved seeing Noelle fight back and empower herself. I loved seeing the cracks in Daniel's facade. I did see a lot of the twists, but it was still a fun ride to go on.
Overall, this was a fun and entertaining read with some good twists and a kick-butt female lead. I've seen some hype for this already on social media and I'm excited to see more. I would recommend this to those who read thrillers. I think they'll enjoy the ride this takes them on.
I loved the narrators and twists in this audiobook! Fantastic debut novel Jessica! Thank you for the copy!
You all know how I love a sensational debut, and today I’m sharing one of my recent favs. With a unique and super twisty plot, Make Me Disappear had me constantly reaching for my ear buds. Thanks to my friends at @bookouture I was lucky enough to have both an e-book and audio version, and I’ve got to tell you that the audio version, narrated by Josh Wichard and Amelia Sciandra, is smoking 🔥. The Daniel chapters made chills run down my spine. 😳
