The the one word I’d use to describe Jessica Payne’s debut Make Me Disappear is relentless. She thought he was the man of her dreams. Now he’s become a nightmare. Her only way out? Arrange to have herself kidnapped. But that plan goes horribly wrong when she’s kidnapped for real.

I enjoyed the heck out of this book. It’s a fast-paced thriller with tons of twists that kept me reading late into the night. Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read and review an eARC of Make Me Disappear.

Very fast pace and intriguing thriller. I found this really hard to put down. I love that it reminded me of the YOU series mixed with some THE GIRL BEFORE vibes. I guessed the twist but it didn’t take away from the way the book developed. And I absolutely loved the character development of Noelle as the story went on! Great debut novel!!

Make Me Disappear is a fantastic debut. A domestic thriller told from multiple POVs which helped really draw you into the story and keep you turning the pages.

Deliciously devious. Diabolical. Deceptive. Daniel wants Kari and he will have her. Even if he has to spy on her, trick her, and eliminate those closest to her.
The action is swift and fast in the plot. Lots of twists and turns in the plot which made me glued to the story.
One can never really disappear.

What an amazing debut book from Jessica Payne.

We follow the story of a couple - Noelle and Daniel. Noelle wants to leave her partner Dr Daniel Ashcroft and we are painted a picture of how truly awful this man really is. From the outside he looks perfect, amazing career, home and car. Noelle organises a fake kidnapping but it all goes horribly wrong when she is actually kidnapped for real. It becomes a game of cat and mouse and we have to learn who is telling the truth and who is lying.

The book has alternating chapters in the perspectives from Noelle and Daniel. I could not put this book down, I just wanted to continue to read on and see if I could work out the ending. And wow, did I get that wrong. I would recommend reading this one if you love psychological thrillers.

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the advanced copy for an honest review.

It kept me engaged from the first chapter to the last page. I did not know what’s going to happen next.

Probably, like most people, have had my theories set up early in the book. But the author created an amazing plot by giving so many clues and still adding a huge twist at the end that changed everything and made me rethink of each scene I have read.

The novel is told in dual perspectives from the main characters and the flashbacks helped solidify my interest to keep reading it in one sitting.

The final twist was really unpredictable, but it just made so much more sense.

I know that this might be a different opinion, but I really feel bad for Daniel’s mother. I think she needed more help along the way, and while this is a fictional story, it can easily be someone's reality.

I must admit that I LOVED this one. I had an idea about what might be going on at about the halfway point but I was never sure until we got to the end. I loved the twists and turns this book took and I loved the setting, but then again I live near Seattle so I am biased. There is a little bit were you need to sort of suspend the disbelief a little bit but it wasn't hard at all. This one kept me up reading it!

A page-turning thriller that will keep you guessing!

Thanks to @NetGalley and @BookOuture for providing me with an ARC of this thrilling debut novel. Make Me Disappear by @JessicaPayne had me engrossed from start to finish!

With two distinct POVs, this story unfolds in alternating chapters between Dr Daniel Ashcroft, a successful anesthesiologist who prides himself on his status and Noelle Thomas, an RN who has terrible taste in men.

As we come to understand the toxic relationship between Daniel and Noelle, it feels necessary for her to go to the extreme to escape her life most unconventionally. But that’s just the beginning and what follows is an action-packed game of cat and mouse that will have you questioning who is the victim.

I loved the precision with which this debut novel has been written. It reads with expert voice that drives the story and kept my attention. The short chapters and well-thought-out plots are so engaging, that it was unputdownable. I especially loved Noelle’s will to survive and the uncomfortableness of Daniels 2nd person POV that gave me all the feels of Joe from YOU.

This author has a huge future and I cannot wait to read more from her. An all-engrossing read!

A not-be-missed debut! This book was dark and twisty. I couldn’t put it down. The author did an excellent job of making you feel what Noelle was feeling. Who can you trust? Who is after you? How will she be able to escape? I look forward to the next thriller by this talented author.

I was so looking forward to this one as the blurb sounded brilliant. Unfortunately I found it extremely far fetched and had no interest in the characters or the story. A DNF for me.

Noelle thought she had the perfect plan to escape from her boyfriend Daniel. She knows that she has to get away from his controlling ways and comes up with a desperate plan to do so. But nothing goes as planned and she soon finds herself having to found the courage to get her life back. Told between Noelle’s and Daniel’s perspectives I found myself completely engrossed in the story and honestly can’t believe this is a debut novel. This author is definitely one I’ll be keeping on eye out for any future works.

Daniel is a super controlling boyfriend,, to the point where he has hidden cameras in Noelle’s apartment, and she is looking for a way to get out of the relationship but she knows he won’t let her. So when she sees an advertisement for a fake kidnapping company, she decides to hire them, only she s going to use it as a way of escape.
I had lots of issues with this book, especially being that nothing really happened that wasn’t totally predictable. I had a problem with the idea of a fake kidnapping as well. If you’re going to pay someone to help you escape, wouldn’t you hire someone who could actually help you?! Not some dude who does this as a gag for bachelorette parties. Which, by the way, I have a problem with as well in that I don’t find a fake kidnapping to be something that anyone should want to take part in!
Daniel is a complete and utter tool. Anesthesiologist or not, he is a self centered mama’s boy who needs to be on his own to sort out his many issues.
Noel’s cousin is as shady as they get and yet Noelle is totally fine with all her stuff. There’s no way.
I wanted to like this as there was supposed to be a plot twist that you didn’t see coming, but they on,u way you wouldn’t have seen it would be if this was your first ever thriller.
The narrator was a saving grace in keeping me from DNF. I found myself tuning in and out several times just to get it done. It wasn’t the worst thing ever but it sure could use a pulse.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this audiobook arc in exchange for my review.

This was such a solid and surprising debut! Noelle is trapped in an abusive relationship with her "perfect" boyfriend Daniel. Having no way to get out and no one to turn to, she decides to fake her own kidnapping. Of course, things do not go as planned and after many twists and turns, one unexpected, shocking ending is revealed. I am excited to see what this author comes out with next!

Read this if you like:
-Domestic/ psych thrillers
-Dual POVs
-Alternating timelines
-Short chapters
-Shocking twists
-Gone Girl and You

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Make Me Disappear' by Jessica Payne.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Jessica Payne, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 16th May 2022.

This is the Jessica Payne's debut novel.

I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching unique cover and intriguing sounding synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that 'Fans of The Wife Between Us, Gone Girl and The Couple Next Door will find it impossible to put down.' I am a huge fan of 'Gone Girl' so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a prologue and 85 40 chapters. The chapters are short to medium so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in Seattle, USA 🇺🇸.

This book is written in first person perspective and the main protagonists are Noelle Thomas and Daniel Ashcroft. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them. If there are several protagonists you also get to see more of what is going on.

'Make Me Disappear' discusses some topics that may trigger some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Jessica discusses/includes domestic abuse.

OMFG!!! If this is what you can do with your debut novel Jessica then I cannot wait to see what you have up your sleeves for your next success!!!!

This book is extremely well written with vivid descriptions that will leave your heart pounding and you sitting on the edge of your seat throughout. The cover and synopsis suit the storyline perfectly.

Well, Well, Well what an absolutely EXPLOSIVE non stop, action packed suspense rammed psychological thriller!!! This book is filled with tension, suspense, secrets, lies, explosive reveals and an absolutely bombshell ending!!! I picked this up this morning and I just could not put it down!!! This is one of those books that when I wasn't reading it physically I was listening to the audio book. I am not a regular audio book listener but I must say the narrators were absolutely perfect, especially the guy who voiced Daniel, he absolutely sent shivers down my spine!!! This book came with one twist after another and you jist did not know who to trust!!! I would never have expected THAT reveal though so an absolutely HUMONGOUS CONGRATULATIONS to Jessica. Its getting harder and harder to shock me lately but you absolutely blew my mind and for a debut novel, well I think that's only the second time ever someone's first book has shocked me so much!!! I felt like I was standing next to Noelle and Daniel throughout the book and my heart was literally racing at times. When it came to the ending I literally shouted out OMG WTF and got a few dodgy looks from my partner!!! This has got to be one of the best books I have ever read and I cannot wait to see what else you have up your sleeve!!! This book can be hard at some points as it revolves around the topics of domestic abuse and gaslighting but I am a firm believer that these subjects should be written about more in fiction as it can help victims see that what is going on isn't normal and hopefully get help before it's too late which may in turn save a life. Jessica has done an amazing job weaving these topics into an unputdownable psychological thriller.

It is set over/includes multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture.

Do not even think about picking this up until you have cleared your schedules as you will NOT be able to put it down!!!

The characters were realistic, creepily so in Daniel's case, we'll defined and strong. I felt like I was sitting opposite Noelle while she told me her story and hiding in the corner when Daniel spoke. As I've previously mentioned the narrators for the audio book did an absolutely fantastic job and the voices were perfect for the characters but even with me reading the physical copy I had a string sense of their personalities. My heart went out to Noelle who just did not know who to trust or where to turn to. I was completely invested in her throughout and loved watching her character develop and grow from beginning to end. Daniel was another story and he absolutely made my skin crawl. My partner listened to one chapter from Daniel and his words were "I want to punch him already"!!! Whether you love or hate them they all work perfectly to make an unputdownable novel that will keep you addicted from the first page to the last.

Congratulations Jessica on an absolutely amazing, unputdownable, explosive successful debut novel. One of the best I've ever read!!!! Here is to youe next success 🥂

If you pick up one book this year THIS is the one for you!!!

Overall an absolutely heart racing, explosive, unputdownable psychological thriller that will keep you up at night.

Genres covered in this book include Psychological Fiction, Psychological Thriller, Suspense, Thriller, Debut and Mystery amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of 'The Wife Between Us' , 'Gone Girl', 'The Couple Next Door' and every single person reading this review!!!

Loved this, from beginning to end! Well worth the listen / read with some twists and turns and definitely questions of who to trust. This would be a great summer read for poolside or beachside!

This this one wasn’t for me. It reminded me of a certain subset of thriller (think: The Chain by Adrian McKinty & The Arrangement by Kiersten Modglin) that I personally don’t love but that definitely has it’s audience. With that in mind, it could well be a case of “it’s not you, it’s me” 🕺🏻

If you like on the move, OTT, drama fuelled thrillers - think straight to Netflix cat & mouse movies with an unknown cast - then you’ll probably get a real kick out of this. For me though, I couldn’t get past the fact that it all felt very fictionalized & low stakes. The main character made a lot of bizarre decisions & the abusive male character was a cartoon-esque villain, to the point where he lost his ability to make me feel scared.

I’m clearly way too desensitised to darkness because I wanted so much more grit, emotion & trauma from this story (particularly give the subject matter) but it was all pretty light & surface level. If you don’t care about suspending your disbelief though & are just here for a quick, fun time, that won’t play on your mind - this might be your bag ♥️

Thank you to Jessica Payne, Bookouture, and Netgalley for providing me with an ebook advance reader copy of Make Me Disappear for me to read and review. I was on the edge of my seat so many times while reading this book! The excellent plot development drew me in immediately and kept me guessing until the very end. You can't go wrong with a psychological thriller that fills you will pulse pounding anxiety and worry for the characters. What a great debut novel by Payne! This is definitely one that I will be recommending and I can't wait to see what she writes next!

A good debut novel from a promising author
When Dr Daniel Ashcroft sets his sights on Noelle, a nurse at the hospital where he is a well respected anaesthetist she believes its the start of a beautiful relationship. Until she realises he is controlling every aspect of her life. She decides to take drastic measures so she can escape him, however things don't go quite to plan and it becomes a cat and mouse situation with no idea who's telling the truth.
Well written with plenty of suspense keeps you invested to see how it will end

Noelle wants out of her abusive relationship with Daniel, but he will do anything to keep her. Daniel's last girlfriend went missing a few years ago, so when Noelle disappears, it's anyone's guess who is behind it, where Noelle will end up, and how it will all play out. I can't give away too many more details without spoiling the plot.

This book will hook you from the beginning. There are so many twists and turns and you never quite know who to trust. While I saw the major twist coming, there were so many interwoven plotlines that I was still extremely interested in seeing how it all unraveled. Payne did a great job of keeping the reader engaged and tying up all loose ends. I would recommend for anyone looking for a suspense/thriller novel that's different from other things you've read recently.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Jessica Payne for this e-arc in exchange for my honest review.

I was shocked when I realized this was Jessica Payne's debut novel. She did an amazing job at hooking me into the story right from the first page and kept me hooked the entire way through. I had a really hard time putting this one down and I can't wait to read her next book!

While I did feel parts of this were a bit unrealistic and I predicted what the twist was, I still really enjoyed this and would recommend this if you're looking for a quick read and one that will get you out of a reading slump!
