This story was a bit different than other thriller and suspense reads I've read in the past and while I did start to see the twist coming, it also caught me a little off guard. I have to say that in this story with the different perspectives, of what happens with Noelle and Daniel as a person that was in an abusive relationship, I found myself cheering for Noelle when she started taking more control of things.
I was, however, a bit caught off guard by who did what and was behind it all in the end. It was all a sad and unfortunate situation and there was more than one victim in it all. I hesitate to say too much and hope I haven't already said too much because it really is best to go into this mostly blind and knowing nothing or next to nothing about the story. I was surprised and at the same time not surprised to find out that some of what happened in this story is a real thing that happens in real life - once you read it you'll likely know what I'm referring to.
This story kept me engaged and interested continuing to read until the end to find out what happened and what all was happening with everyone involved. There were quite a few twists, turns, and things that kept me on my toes or caught me a little by surprise. I very much enjoyed this and am planning to also listen to the audio to see how that enhances the story since I'm also an audiophile.
This is a very good, solid, and well-written debut. Make sure to go pick it up and check it out. You don't want to miss out on this one! Thanks so much to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Jessica Payne for letting me read and review this amazing thriller. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Great read and hard to put down. It starts off really good and you get totally invested in Noelles character and story. Parts of the story were unbelievable but overall it was great. Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy of this book.

Jessica Payne's novel Make Me Disappear is a suspenseful edge of your seat psychological thriller available on May 16th.

Noelle is engaged to Dr. Daniel Ashcroft, and the relationship is very abusive. Noelle is shocked to find out Daniel's former girlfriend disappeared without a trace. Even more tragically, Daniel has never been honest and told Noelle about this juicy little tidbit. Hmmm, can you say big red flag? Noelle is afraid for her life and develops a plan to get away from Daniel by faking her kidnapping. Can she pull it off?

Readers need to suspend their beliefs to enjoy this thriller fully. Make Me Disappear is full of intriguing and tense moments. The main characters are interesting and will have you cheering for them throughout the story. As Jessica Payne is known to keep her audience guessing, she is liable to surprise you with some shocking plot twists. I would love to read a sequel about Jack, a loveable, but "rough-n-tough character that you will meet in the book. (4⭐⭐⭐⭐)

Thank you, Bookouture and NetGalley, for the joy of reading this brand-new, fast-paced adventure.

Make Me Disappear follows Noelle, whose life has become nothing less than a nightmare because of her possessive boyfriend Daniel. He has made it clear that she couldn’t leave him and so, she arranged her kidnapping. Noelle thinks things are going according to her plan, but she was wrong as she learns things are not the way how she wants them to be…

The plot was so interesting that I couldn’t wait to receive this ARC. It started so well as you learn how creepy and possessive Daniel is, and how messy Noelle’s life is. I was so into it…the vibes in the first half were very uncomfortable and I was so eager for the time when she gets fake kidnapped.

The story goes back and forth to different timelines in dual POVs, keeping the creepy environment so well. Daniel’s POV was just like listening to Joe Goldberg of YOU… and I loved the first part because it was so well done in all aspects – the creepiness of it all was 👏🏼👏🏼

As the story progressed, the plot becomes chaotic and there were so many unnecessary things happening that diminished the charm it had at the start. The protagonist’s decisions become so strange around the middle part of the story and they made no sense at all. Also, Daniel’s creepy possessive narration becomes a bit repetitive after some time.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆/𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝘁.
Even after having such an incredible and captivating blurb, it fails to give a good mystery. There were many twists but those went predictable real fast and it took out all the fun. There was too much happening to keep the mystery hidden behind the mess, but it all made the plot confusing. Moreover, the climax was such a letdown and I really wanted this book to be good (I mean, fake kidnapping and crazy psycho boyfriend!!) but it was not that thrilling.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀.
Noelle.
Noelle started good and I sympathised with her. She was frustrated and wanted to get away from Daniel. But, her actions were a different story. Why was she lingering around taking petty revenge on him or openly using her social accounts, calling her sister and making her presence known to everybody? All I could say was, Noelle please get your act together and just go MIA coz that’s what you want.

Daniel.
I FEEL SO SORRY FOR THIS MAN! The story started with him being the manipulative and possessive type but there’s a reason he is that way. And by the end, you’ll see he’s not the Joe Goldberg we were thinking him to be. He didn’t deserve what happened to him.

Overall, Make Me Disappear had the potential and I wanted this book to be good. It was super creepy and intense at the start but became messy and bizarre till the end. With some very predictable twists and turns, it is an okay-ish thriller and I’ll recommend it for those who cannot easily predict the plots and twists in a mystery book.

I would like to thank Jessica Payne, NetGalley and Bookouture for providing the ARC in exchange for an honest review. This book is released today!

Make Me Disappear is the first novel by American author, Jessica Payne. Fourteen months after meeting popular and strikingly handsome anaesthesiologist Dr Daniel Ashcroft, Seattle cardiac nurse Noelle Thomas understands that desperate measures are needed, and getting herself abducted is the answer. Daniel exercises coercive control, watching her every move via her phone and hidden cameras.

Noelle wonders about one, perhaps two previous girlfriends who have gone missing and, while she has no proof, she believes he murdered her Aunt Beatrice after heart surgery. Noelle had tried to ease away from him, warning that she would need to devote more time to her beloved aunt post-op, but she realises that didn’t suit Daniel’s need for her undivided attention.

Her biggest fear, though, is for her pregnant cousin, Kari, Beatrice’s daughter. She interprets Daniel’s comments about the dangers of pregnancy and childbirth as veiled threats designed to manipulate her into behaving exactly as he wants her to.

His influence at Seattle General, the same hospital where she works, also puts her job in jeopardy. Daniel has decided she is the perfect wife for him: they are meant to be together, and a wealthy doctor’s wife won’t need to work as a lowly nurse.

But getting herself kidnapped: surely that’s a bit drastic? It will mean giving up her job, never seeing Kari again… She rationalises: if Daniel’s cameras show her being taken, Kari will be safe, and Noelle will be free of him. She sets it up, and waits. And is duly kidnapped, but it’s soon clear that her kidnapper is not from Ultimate Kidnapping, but someone else entirely.

Trying to guess who has had her kidnapped (Daniel, so he can heroically rescue her? Her violent ex from Idaho?) is doing her head in, but she does know she needs to escape from the man keeping her captive. Eventually Noelle resolves not to live her life on the run, in hiding, but to take control. Her creativity as she gives this narcissistic sociopath a taste of his own medicine is an absolute delight to witness.

The story is told through two dual-timeline first-person narratives, with Daniel’s words being addressed to Noelle. This makes for a fast-paced tale that is both gripping and entertaining.

Astute readers will have settled on the person behind all the nastiness early on, but that in no way diminishes the enjoyment of the journey to the jaw-dropping climax, and even if disbelief suspenders need to be donned for the more extreme aspects of characters and plot, it’s easy to just go with the flow. This is an outstanding debut novel.

Make Me Disappear by Jessica Payne is an unputdownable psychological thriller with tons of twists. The story revolves around Noelle, whose significant other Daniel, is a handsome and accomplished doctor. When Noelle first started dating him, it was like a dream come true. Noelle felt so lucky. But then, little things that seemed insignificant start to add up. Daniel's previous girlfriend went missing. Will Noelle be next? Why are there cameras watching her every move? How can she escape from Daniel?

Here is a gripping excerpt from the Prologue:

"The sight of his Porsche yanks my attention from my inner demons. He’s parallel parked it in front of the restaurant, because while he’s of the societal class to demand valet parking, he wouldn’t dream of trusting the twenty-year-old who parks for the restaurant with his Porsche. It gleams in the light of the streetlamp, rain beading along its red exterior. Like me, it is a prized possession.
But not for long.
My body flushes with adrenaline, the confidence this will be the last date at “our” restaurant making me surer of myself than I’ve been since I met him. Since I began this downward spiral I’ve been unable to escape.
My hands clench around my keys. Suddenly, they are out of my bag, and I’m leaning close, pretending to admire the car in which I’ve suffered his company for far too long. The steel teeth of the key digs into the paint job as I take another step, a smile curving at my lips—is that joy rushing through me?"

Overall, Make Me Disappear is a twist-filled thriller that will appeal to fans of Netflix's You and Bates Motel. It reminded of You, because some chapters are narrated by Daniel, and they seem psychopathic. It reminded me of Bates Motel, because there are some similar family dynamics. One highlight of this book is how exciting it was. I had to keep reading to find out what happened next! If I had to complain about 1 thing, I would say that the final reveal wasn't as jaw-dropping as I expected, and the book ended with a fizzle instead of a bang. If you're intrigued by the excerpt above, or if you're a fan of psychological thrillers, I highly recommend that you check out this book when it comes out in May!

What a very interesting book it's a great title for this book too because you'll find out what really happened in this book. It talks a lot about issues dealing with domestic violence and control and how people can be very evil in the face of this. NOELIE It's the main person in this book and how she had to deal with a lot of issues especially likely we're ex boyfriend you know I'm she moves to Seattle and tries to start a new life. In the hospital she meets a doctor named DAV NIEL. This person turns out to be very nice in the game but things lead out of control and it is very very very controlling them . No ELLIE1 just out real quick when she realizes he constantly spies on we constantly spies are and accidents happen with her and you just wanted to control it. It knows he issues a pop up in this book especially with his mothe His mother was very controlling of her son because she wanted him to have a girlfriend but a lot of bad things turned out the gangster. His girlfriend Sarah seemed to disappear. You'll also find out about his other girlfriend Justin why she didn't really wanted to talk about what happened in the past. Then her cousin also also was involved as well and it's pretty interesting what he did to her as well.. Then the thick kidnapping happened And this is really good to really interesting in the book and I'll Jack is somehow involved as well and how it's like an escape story through all these different towns and stuff but you can see how scared Noel really was. I could see this playing out in a lot of different ways when there is a mystic violence involved and how an evil person in your past can actually destroy your life I like the seams and Seattle because I live there and I care late to it and also Portland as well. I hope the author writes more books because I really like this book and how she developed characters and plots and themes around domestic violence and how she dealt with us through the fake kidnapping. You're so interested in this book you'll love it

I devoured this book so quickly. It has short digestable chapters with Noelle and Daniel's point of view. I guessed the ending but that didn't make this book any less enjoyable. Readers who love domestic thrillers will love this one. Thanks for the advance review copy.

What a thriller, page-turning, nerve wracking, FANTASTIC read.

I absolutely love the deep character arc woven in with the breakneck pace. Turning difficult realities into stories is one incredible way we can help and encourage others, and Jessica nails it. Also Noelle’s friendship with Jack was the best; I was totally shipping them. And Daniel—some serious things going on there that I won’t spoil but WHEW. Jessica turns the mystery on its head, that’s for sure.

Make Me Disappear was everything I love in thrillers. I can’t wait to get my own physical copy, and can’t wait to see what Jessica writes next!

Abundant and eternal gratitude to Netgalley and the publisher for this arc!

In that didn’t go the way I thought news, wow. Talk about a twisty read.

I wish there was more resolution of one storyline but other than that this was a crazy ride.

Told from dual point of view, we learn about a nurse named Noelle, who’s dating Dr Daniel Ashcroft. When Noelle learns that her boyfriends previous girlfriend went missing, Noelle plan her owns kidnapping in order to escape. I was super shocked to learn this was a debut novel from this author. The alternating chapter between each point of view and having the characters developed kept me so engaged. I was definitely rooting for Noelle but didn’t outright hate Daniel. The pace kept me engaged the whole time and the twist?! Oh my word. Highly recommend this one, can’t wait to see what others Jessica Payne comes out with!

When Noelle Thomas first started dating Dr. Daniel Ashcroft, a part of her thought he was too good to be true. He was suave, handsome, caring — not to mention generous with his sizeable wealth. Everything seemed perfect for a while, until Noelle discovered the cameras hidden in her apartment. Having already escaped one abusive boyfriend in her past, Noelle soon realizes there may be only one way to leave this relationship without putting herself or her family in danger: By making herself disappear. Can she evade Daniel's grasp before it's too late?

MAKE ME DISAPPEAR is a fast-paced thriller with enjoyable twists and turns and plenty of suspense. Told through a dual point-of-view, the book alternates between Noelle's perspective and Daniel's, giving the reader a window into the unsettling workings of his psyche. As the main character, Noelle is determined, resourceful and clever, making you want to root for her from the very first page. Some of the side characters, however, could use a bit more development, including Noelle's cousin, Kari.

Though there were enough twists to keep the plot interesting, the final resolution felt a bit predictable, and some plot points came off slightly far-fetched. Still, even if not particularly original, the book held my attention from beginning to end. Overall, the novel is an impressive debut that most thriller readers will likely enjoy.

Noelle is dating Dr Daniel Ashcroft, an anesthesiologist, who seemed perfect at the start, but as the saying goes "If something seems too good to be true, it probably is". She is sick of his controlling behaviour & gaslighting, she knows he has had cameras installed in her apartment, & she suspects him of having killed her aunt. When she overhears some gossip about his previous girlfriend going missing under mysterious circumstances, Noelle wants out of the relationship, & she decides on the drastic action of hiring a group who advertise fake kidnappings as entertainment - that way Daniel will believe she didn't just leave him. Noelle underestimates just how determined Daniel is to hang on to her though, & when the kidnapping goes ahead, she soon realises that something has gone wrong when she overhears them talking about killing her & about a man who hired them. As luck would have it, she manages to escape, but she now needs to find out who tried to have her killed - was it Daniel or a previous ex?

The narration is alternately from Noelle & Daniel's points of view, giving the reader a look into both the characters. Noelle is a main character who is quite engaging & easy to root for, but Daniel is a bit of 'bad boyfriend' cliché, & the story line featuring her cousin Kari is obvious from the start. Personally I think it would have been better to run with the 'fake kidnapping gone wrong' angle, but as it is, Noelle escapes far too easily & then you really have to suspend your disbelief to carry on. No animals were harmed in the story though, which is always a good thing. I rate this a solid 3 stars as it was fast-paced, with several twists & turns, but there is nothing about it that really stands out from the hundreds of other thrillers.

My thanks to NetGalley & publishers, Bookouture, for the opportunity to read an ARC.

Wow what a story Make Me Disappear is. It grabbed me from the description alone and did not let go with all the twists and turns. I loved the dual point of view and the short chapters as I can read just one more chapter before bed and before I knew it I was finishing it in one sitting.
Make Me Disappear is a great debut and I look forward to reading future books by Jessica Payne.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC.

I really enjoyed this book! I had the pleasure of both listening to the audio and reading the ebook.

The narration was great in the audio and I felt it was a perfectly paced book that kept me entertained throughout!

The characters were great and I was wondering the whole time whether Noelene was going to be a reliable or unreliable narrator the whole time...

Great storyline, easy to great short chapters and lots of elements to keep the story shrouded in mystery. I loved it!

What a debut! Make me disappear is a gripping thriller that certainly keeps the pages turning!

Short, snappy chapters help keep the story moving, and the reader guessing.

The twists and turns are artfully dropped in, leading you to question who is the best guy.

A story of abuse, control and secrets.

Wow! What a brilliantly twisty debut by Jessica Payne!

Noelle and Dr. Daniel Ashcroft work at the same hospital together. He's an anesthesiologist. He's also extremely good looking and rich. Noelle is a nurse and has an average lifestyle. Daniel and Noelle start dating. At first, she's head over heels for Daniel. He wines and dines her and is very protective. That is, until he's not. Is Noelle and Daniel's relationship too good to be true? How did his last two girlfriends disappear?

This plot was perfect! I love thriller characters who are in the medical field. There are so many hidden secrets, major suspense, lots of psychological drama, and then a jaw-dropping major twist at the end! Daniel reminded me of Christian Bale in American Psycho. He was the perfect fit for this thriller. Noelle got on my nerves at times with the decisions she made, but she was a strong character overall.

I can't wait to see what Jessica Payne is going to come out with next! Highly recommend!

4.5 stars/5 stars

Great original debut thriller! Attractive Dr. Daniel Ashcroft should have been a great catch for any single woman. Rich, kind, intelligent, with a gorgeous home, Noelle thought she was extremely lucky to find him. When Noelle realizes just how controlling Daniel has become over her life she starts to rethink her relationship, but by then it’s too late. Daniel makes is perfectly clear she isn’t getting out that easy. This book is a twisted story that you have to read to believe. Highly recommend.
