I loved Emily's first book, My Best Friend's Secret so I had high hopes for this one and it absolutely didn't disappoint.

The book is split into 4 different parts, each one packing a punch. The characters are really well developed. It is so descriptive, I felt like I was in the book, in the glass house.

This book will have you on the edge of your seat, it is fast paced and I was desperate to find out what was going on.

Normally I wait a day or two after finishing a book to start formulating a review, but I have literally JUST finished this book and have ran straight here to write this review because I simply HAVE to tell everyone about this book! It is SOMETHING ELSE!! If you want a book that will keep you hooked and keep you guessing until the very end; then you NEED to read this!

It took me a few chapters to get into, but after that, I was hooked! So much so that I finished it in a matter of days! About a quarter of the way through I thought I’d guessed the twist (which didn’t take away from how amazing the story was) but HOW WRONG WAS I!! There is no way I would have ever guessed how it was going to end! Every character was perfectly written, the story itself and the subject of the story was so well thought out, and the ending ties everything together perfectly!

I won’t give away spoilers, but not only is it a brilliantly written thriller, but it also raising awareness to such an important subject too!

If you are a fan of thrillers that pack a massive punch, then this is the book for you!

This one sounded like something I’d love and it definitely did not disappoint!

The start drew me straight in, everything was super unsettling and had me questioning every aspect. Something about Paul just didn’t sit right with me from the get go - which just added to the intrigue and constant guessing.

I have to admit, the children were written really well and it was hard to see how much they were struggling - especially Jesse!! I have to say, as difficult as aspects of this were to read, it was so well written and believable.

I found the second half a little less impactful than the first, but it was still interesting and I was fully committed to the plot. Then that end twist?! Knock me down with a feather - AMAZING!

It was fast paced and thrilling - I definitely want to read more from the author now. Will recommend to anyone who loves a creepy thriller!!

📚 CURRENT READ 📚. Publication Date- 12th May 2022.
Just as well I’m nearly finished this book - it’s out tomorrow 👏🏽👏🏽

Enjoyed this book. And there was a twist or two!

I found the characters not the easiest to like and I guessed the ending- so that spoiled it a bit for me.
Would definitely read this author again though. Some stories just don’t grip us as much !

This is a typical thriller and unfortunately it treads no new ground. I found it good and well written but it is not a new plot.
The writer is very talented and I would love to read a different book by her.

I love a 'new-beginning-turns-rogue' psychological thriller, especially when its as well written as this one!

Lauren and Paul move to a remote countryside location to start afresh (why would you even do that?) with Paul's children from his previous marriage. Once they're settled in, Paul's controlling side comes out more and his coercive control starts to grow and grow (what did happen to his first wife eh?) , can Lauren and the children escape his clutches? Plenty of twists in the tale kept me hooked from start to finish

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and finished it within a day.

The book is set in a glass house in the remote English countryside, with an odd couple with coercive control and two kids in the middle. Count me in!

The plot of the thriller is interesting, kept me engaged and I really enjoyed getting to know the characters.

I had an idea what might be happening and when the twist came, I had somewhat already predicted it. It was ok, but not wholly a surprise.

At times, some of the actions did feel a little unbelievable and far fetched, but not too much.

Maybe 3.5 stars rounded up?
Thank you, NetGalley for the ARC!

I’m going against what seems to be the overwhelming opinion here but this book just didn’t do anything for me. I felt as if I had previously read so many similar plots with nothing very new or inventive to make this one stand out. Nothing particularly wrong with it but just a middle of the road score this time.

This is a great physiological thriller by Emily Freud, that had me gripped from the first page. It’s quite disturbing in parts but that ramps up the tension,Lauren and Paul want escape London for a quieter life in the country and when a opportunity comes up to house sit for a friend they both jump at the chance although it is isolated in the countryside, but before long Lauren starts to have doubts about the dream move especially as she has taken on Paul’s two children also following their mothers death. And has Lauren try’s to please Paul and his children it seems not to be enough and Paul starts to get more critical and controlling. With plenty of twists and turns along the way this is a book which will keep you gripped until the final chapter.A cracking 5 star read from Emily Freud which I can very much recommend to anyone who enjoys this genre.

Wow this book, absolutely gripped me from the first sentence. I love a book about a controlling relationship and this did not disappoint at all. Very well written, maybe a slight issue with the childrens ages but that’s a common thing for me. Would highly recommend!

This was a bit slow to start but once it got going it was a real page turner.

I absolutely love isolated thrillers and this did such a good job of making the reader feel isolated themselves and just downright creeped out.

I had lots of wee guesses along the way what was going on but up until a couple of pages before I had absolutely no clue, the twist was just astounding.

The only issue for me was I sometimes found things a bit confusing, particularly going between two timelines, and I had to sometimes flip back to check what had happened; that and the fact I felt the end a bit rushed but apart from that this was a decently written, strong thriller which I would recommend for the twist alone.

*Thanks to NetGalley, Quercus Books and Emily Freud for the copy of this book. All views are my own.*

A fresh start in a new home away from London- Lauren thinks that this will be a turning point for her and her husband Paul, and his two young children. Lauren is struggling to adapt to motherhood with her fears growing every day. She lives in the shadow of Paul’s dead wife who was the perfect spouse and mother. Rumours abound in the village about their house and Lauren feels increasingly isolated despite Paul’s reassurances. She wants to trust her husband but how can she trust him when she can’t trust herself?

This book is a fast-paced, tense and chilling story with multiple timelines and a whole lot of suspense, drama and terrifying moments. It’s impossible to put this book down and I read it in two days!

It’s full of twists and terrifying revelations and has all the key ingredients of a disturbing psychological thriller- unreliable narrators and characters, multiple viewpoints. The creepy glass house hidden away and isolated from the rest of the world really added to the chilling atmosphere of the story.

Emily has created probably one of the most hated and reviled characters I’ve ever read! I immediately became attached to Lauren and the two kids and was completely engrossed in how their story would unfold.

The twist was so unexpected and made my jaw drop- I love when an author can completely blindside you as a reader and leave you in complete shock.

This story will leave you feeling very unsettled. So well written and also thought-provoking in terms of relationships and boundaries. I would love to see this made into a movie! 5 ⭐️

Tw: domestic abuse (mental, emotional and physical)

This is a super twisty psychological thriller that I read very quickly indeed. It had all the elements that I look for in a book with different viewpoints, unreliable narrators and characters that you love to hate all wrapped up in a creepy glass house in the middle of nowhere where someone is watching your every move. It’s a book that’s best to go into blind to get the most out of the storyline and although I saw a few of the twists coming, some of them are genuinely shocking!
A gripping and unsettling read.

An excellent domestic thriller focusing on a young woman trying to make her relationship with her significant other work despite the ominous rumors surrounding his wife’s demise.

I absolutely loved this one,
After speaking to Emily back and forth and getting to read the teaser chapter prior to the publication of this book I was so excited to finally get to read the full thing and it did not dissapoint.

This book was so gripping, I was Immediately attached to the main character and the kids in this book which definitely helped build the tension,
It’s truly going to be hard to review this one without giving anything away but omg I was holding my breath throughout this, the tension was so strong and it really truly showed the deception and clever wit needed by those who are able to emotionally abuse and manipulate others.
Emily has truly made me have a most hated character now after this book and if that’s not good writing I don’t know what is.
I will be running to pick up Emily’s debut novel after this and I cannot recommend it enough,
Please make this a movie!!!!

#netgalley #whatsheleftbehind A totally bingeworthy, gripping read, I was hooked from the start, lots of twists and turns and I loved the ending I totally didn't predict that. Overall a great physcological thriller book 5/5 stars

Really interesting book that had me gripped from the start. The twist is pretty unexpected in my opinion, having read a few of these types of books before!

Lauren believes she's really lucked out with Paul, a widower with two children. She thinks its her opportunity for the perfect life and family after some "incidents" in her past. The book unfolds with pace and multiple revelations. A creepy page turner!

I'd like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I wasn't sure of this book at first. It gave me the impression of a paranormal thriller, up to 35/40%. Then bam, the story really takes off and you're left sitting with your mouth open thinking what just happened!

What She Left Behind is definitely NOT one you should leave behind.
