Amazing book by a gifted new writer on the scene. I look forward to more work from this writer. From start to finish this book had me in its grip. She boldly, bravely tells a story of resilience that gives new meaning to life is a classroom.
Vanessa Howard has written an impactful book that teaches important life lessons. The reader is taken on a journey with Miriam, the biblical character, that parallels the life of the writer.
The main takeaways for me are that if you want to lead, you should know how to give respect to those in authority over you; judging people who make mistakes is never the road a Christian should walk. As well, and most importantly, God is sovereign over all and we should be patient as He works out the plans He has for our lives. Plus, He can use anyone he chooses to make an impact here on Earth.
You won't regret the time spent between the pages of Redeemed.
Redeemed: God’s Grace Helps Us Overcome by Dr. Vanessa Howard is book three in the multi-author standalone Grateful Hearts Inspirational series.
Dr. Howard’s story is a comparison to the biblical story of Moses and Miriam. Dr. Howard experienced some church practices that are now mostly outdated, with good reason. She dispenses some biblical facts I had forgotten or never knew. Her words flow smoothly, like the finest poetry. She Injects humor at the right moments to soften her deIivery. Redeemed is a quick, but good, read. I rate it 4 out of 5 stars and recommend it to all readers of Christian nonfiction.
My thanks to Macro Publishing Group and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. However, the opinions expressed in this review are 100% mine and mine alone.
Using the book of Exodus in the bible, and several stories about Moses sister, Miriam, Dr. Howard shows us through each and every example how God is with us at every step, even when we chose not to do right and follow his will. Although it's a short read, it is a very needed and very powerful and one that you will want to refer back to when you encounter hard times in life.
I recieved a copy of the book via Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review of my own thoughts and opinions.
Fantastic book!! I love Christian Fiction and this does not disappoint. While telling a biblical story, it gives you a different spin on the outlook of one person and she does an excellent job!!
Reading “Redeemed’” by Dr. Vanessa Howard was a wonderful and enlightening experience. I love the way she didn’t hold back. Even down to being seen with a hole in her underwear didn’t stop her journey of faith and redemption. Choosing Marian, Moses sister, as a example of how we can think too highly of ourselves and venture to a place where we think we’re more than God and become self-appointed servants was perfection. There was even a bit of unspoken racism because we know what Marian’s real problem was with her brother Moses, ETHIOPIAN wife,, Zipporah.
Vanessa Howard did not preach yet took us to the throne, ie: tambourine and all. I love her summation which I fits perfectly with what I took away from her story.
“.God doesn’t give up on us when we make mistakes or get distracted from our purpose. He rejoices when a lost sheep comes home. Redemption belongs to you. Embrace God’s goodness and be found in Him.”
I thoroughly enjoyed the way Dr. Vanessa used Moses' sister, Miriam, to show how God uses every situation in our lives, for our good. As Christians, even seasoned believers, we fall victim to our flesh. We do and say things that are not of God, often causing confusion and destruction. Even when our willful actions deserve punishment, His love and grace shows us mercy. I am going to recommend Redeemed be used as the book for our women's ministry summer read and discussion.
Dr. V. shares her journey of triumph over tribulations and how she helped and inspired others along the way, even while she was struggling.. Well written and keep you turning the pages.
Oftentimes it's the ones we are looking to for love and guidance who fail and disappoint us. However, Dr. V. has shown us that forgiveness will give us the strength to overcome. She also conveys that healing and redemption come from God and not man.
Redeemed indeed!
