"I worship this squat rack the way Mother Gothel regards Rapunzel's hair. It gives me life. Vigor."

At the gym Crystal🏋️‍♀️ meets Squat Rack thief🏋️‍♂️, who stole her favourite squat rack by the window🪟

"His eyes are a striking forest green, like an expanse of dense pine trees dusting untouched misty mountain terrain in the wilderness."

They meet everyday at the gym🏋️‍♂️🏋️‍♀️ and things are starting to get hotter🤒🔥...

"Are you a bank loan? Because you have my interest."

...until they meet again at their grandparents🧓 engagement💍 party🎉

"The dating world is terrifying. I've seen the specimens on the market."

Crystal's also an influencer📱 promoting body positivity 👍 and Scott's a firefighter 🧑‍🚒

"Are you my appendix? This feeling in my stomach makes me want to take you out."

The best in this book was Crystal's sister Tara. SHE'S A BOOKSTAGRAMMER📚!!!!! I REPEAT SHE'S A BOOKSTAGRAMMER📚!!!!! She also reads romance💋 novels📚 and has unrealistic expectations💅.
🎶Wait is this f*cking play about us?🎶

"I closely resemble a mangled killer doll in a need of good exorcism and I don't want to talk about it."

It was a really quick read until about 85% of the book, when heavier topics come in and I felt like the ending🔚 kinda dragged out. But it's nice, quick, funny read. There's also soooo many cultural🧝 references, like in every sentence there's IKEA, Lord of the Rings etc. 4/5⭐

the romcom tropes and cliches were just the right amount. nothing awkwardly OTT that makes you shudder with second hand embarrassment. too many romcoms go full throttle with the cringe and it stifles the authenticity of the book bcos most people don’t act or talk like that (you know, the overly klutzy heroine, for example). so that was the first win of this book for me.

from the get go, i found Crystal incredibly endearing and funny. she felt real to me with her own quirks, hobbies and interests that were personal, and didn’t feel bland or manufactured to fit a certain type of character the author wanted to project. she just felt like an actual fleshed-out person, rather than a stilted or generic fictional character.

she was stubborn but knows when she’s in the wrong and isn’t afraid to admit it. she was flawed and human. she can act impulsively in the moment but is really good at reflecting, self-aware of her actions and how to fix them. i just admired her a lot. i did have an issue with her during the end conflict... but we’ll get to that.

honestly, the humour of all of the characters was stellar. within the first 10% of this, id laughed out loud a handful of times. the banter between Crustal and Scott was top-tier. it was so natural and easy-going, i was giggling right along with them. while the side characters were just as funny and endearing— and i did some digging, praying Tara was gonna have a romance and it be with Trevor (even tho they have never interacted lmao) Exes and O’s release right now please!!

while Scotty👀

everything he said was just a sexual innuendo dripping with sarcasm the man is my newest book bf. i mean, the moment i found out his dog was called Albus Doodledore, i was a goner for this man. everything about him had me giggling and blushing and kicking my feet, i have zero shame.

Scotty and Crystal executed “we know we have feelings for each other but can’t do anything about it” soooo fucking well. the tension was palpable, it was intensely drawn out but not too much that you got bored and lost interest. the pacing was satisfying and i devoured this book in less than twenty-four hours— it was easy to consume and soooo addictive.

the body politics of this book were amazing. oh my god. im usually really wary of romances that have a theme of fitness/weight/gym life, etc bcos the portrayals can be problematic and send the wrong kind of message. i felt like Amy Lea handled the delicate topic with tact and care. it was greatly approached and im glad that it wasn’t the driving force of the book, but it worked alongside the romance and Crystal’s individual journey.

but, this was gonna be a five star read until the end conflict... i understood the sentiments but i just hated how Crystal reacted to Scott. he didn’t deserve that. it bugged me a lot tbh, and waned my enjoyment. i just wish it hadn’t been as severe, maybe? i guess. idk the right word, but it just resulted in me feeling a little bummed bcos all of my cute butterfly feelings withered a bit. i think that’s when the body politics of the book did take over more than id have liked, unfortunately.

her big grand gesture was heartwarming though. it was incredibly sweet. i was giddy he whole time, so it redeemed her actions for me.

so, this was just spectacular, especially for a debut novel. wow. i had the best time reading it with a big silly smile on my face. i am so hyped for Tara and Trevor, i didn’t actually think they’d be getting a romance together so i can’t wait!!

I can whole heartedly say that this book was cute, inspirational and steamy all at once.
Obviously this book is perfect for me considering Scott is based off of Chris Evans (basically the loml) but the fact that the main Character, Crystal, was plus-sized. It's amazing how diverse books are becoming lately and there is representation for everyone.
I have always struggled with body dismorphia and my weight. Reading Crystal own struggles with the dark sides of social media really spoke to me. You can believe that you're confident and feel safe in you're own skin, but those demons will always come out with a flick of a switch.
Once again I'm so grateful I got early access to this book. It's been one I've had my eye on for a while and I was not disappointed!
The fact that this book was 5/5 🌶 is just the icing on the cake!

This was such a fun read with a great message about body positivity and respectability.

Crystal has a wonderful arc over the course of this novel and I loved how she used her influencing to be a great role model. She is a curvy fitness influencer and personal trainer. At the beginning, she seems very secure in herself and has built up her career by ignoring trolls and loving her body. Scott is a hunky fireman who is new to the gym Crystal attends and their relationship begins when he steals her favourite squat rack. From this point on, a lot of tension flows between these two characters as they continue to meet, and Scott continues to get in the way of Crystal at the gym.

“I didn’t know you were still interested.”
“Seriously? I only text you a million times a day.”

The last place Crystal expects to meet Scott is her grandma’s engagement party, the very grandma she didn’t even know was dating! This unexpected meeting encourages them to spend more time together and get to know each other. In the lead up to the wedding, many sparks are flying between them!

‘I think about you all the time. Every day, all day. All I ever want to do is be with you. Even if we aren’t doing anything at all.’

I loved the romance and the tension between Crystal and Scott was great, but the best part about this book was the body respectability message. After a picture of Crystal and Scott goes viral, Crystal realises she was ignoring the trolls in an unhealthy way and wants to show others that her journey isn’t always easy. This book shows the importance of being kind, being healthy, and that conforming to society’s roles isn’t necessary. Scott is a super sweet character, who appears slightly arrogant at first, but you quickly learn that it’s a facade. Their relationship grows over the course of the novel as they deal with family relationships, and their idea to stay friends for the first few months.

‘I would have waited forever for you.’

Set On You has a great message about acceptance and self-love. It was a steamy romance read and I couldn’t put it down! The banter and tension between the two was fantastic. This was a great debut book and I loved it!

ok hello. I loved this book?
Curvy gym instagrammer as our FMC? I've never read a book where I was like wow I actually could be this character? Not only was this book a nice easy read, it was relatable, you believed the characters and the relationship - it's not all easy and you have to fully learn to love and trust yourself before you can love and trust others.

Lea has not only taken us on a romantic story but also on a self-acceptance journey. Highlighting the pressures people face on social media and how everything is not always as it seems. No-one is constantly positive 24/7 and that it ok!

I think I'm a little bit (a lot) in love with Scott, a handsome firefighter who has a dog called Albus Doodledore? Who also works out with you at the gym?? Where do I sign up.

This book touches upon the enemies to lovers trope, he falls for her first and there's a happy ending. You literally cannot go wrong.

There's a little spice, a steamy makeout in the changing rooms and hello bathtub.

Overall I did really enjoy this book and will be buying the physical copy when it is released!

Thank you to the publishers for gifting me the arc!!!

4/5 stars

Current status: waiting for the universe to provide me with my very own Scott Ritchie 😍 . Fireman? Check. Family man? Check. Into the gym? Check!

This was such a fun read and I flew through it! This is an enemies to lovers, slowburn romance which tackles the topic of self acceptance and body positivity, something I really enjoyed and want to read more of!

While sticking to the typical structure of a fun romance, it did throw some curveballs in there which kept me on my toes!

One thing that knocked this down from a 4 star read is one of my biggest pet peeves- pop culture references in books FOR NO REASON! I’ve read my fair share of romance, and yes, lots of books will throw a pop culture reference in here or there, in this book they were EVERYWHERE! I’m talking three or four on a page sometimes! And some were so specific! Not only does it just really annoy me, I feel like it totally ages the book, and even though I think this book will be aged somewhat anyway, due to it revolving around Instagram influencers (loved the bookstagram mention) I don’t think the overuse of references was necessary.

This book did tackle some really important themes, such as self love and body positivity, and also toxic positivity! It also touched on racism, death and illness and I thought these topics were handled well.

All in all this was a great read, especially for a debut. I’ll definitely be buying a copy of this when it’s out and I’m excited for what Amy Lea comes out with next!

Amy Lea did not shy away from criticising the body positivity movement, especially toxic positivity. it is very hard to find pieces of media that admit it’s not sustainable to be happy 24/7. Making Crystal an influencer gave us an interesting medium to explore social media as a whole and how both content and comments can affect us.
Crystal was a hilarious main character which made the book easy to follow and enjoy. Her interactions with the love interest were captivating from their first not so meet-cute. As any good romcom there was meddling family members and friends, adorable pets and oh so much sexual tension.

The book fell a little short short in terms of the pacing for me. It was painfully obvious from the get go that there was undeniable chemistry between the main characters and the ‘will they, won’t they’ felt more like a ‘can’t they just hurry up and do it now’. As a result, it felt like the book had to include many obstacles to explain why they weren’t together yet. The other gripe I had with the book was that I felt that race did not come into play much until the last part of the book. It was one of the main reasons I felt so drawn to reading this book so it would have been nice to see it explored further.

All in all, I rated this book a solid 3.5 stars out of 5. This was a great debut novel and I am extremely excited to see what Amy Lea puts out next, I would love to see a story about Tara (a fellow book nerd)!

This book is totally the full package for romance lovers! It was funny, steamy, romantic and SO refreshing to have the female lead not be your typical main character!

This book was so SO lovely. Scott and Crystal had such a delightful relationship to read, it was so heartwarming and cute. I loved the way they behaved with each other, I am weak for enemies to friends to lovers and this was just the perfect example of that trope!

I also really enjoyed the clear-eyed analysis of the body positive movement and the concept of toxic positivity. It was fascinating to go on that journey with Crystal and see her reach a more realistic place of acceptance of herself.

The key highlight of this for me though was how absolutely adorable the main couple were, their chemistry was perfect and I loved their story.

Many thanks to Netgalley for providing me with an ARC copy of Set On You in exchange for an honest review. Opinions are entirely my own.

Rating: 4.5/5

I absolutely LOVED this debut novel by Amy Lea. I’m so so happy I got to read this and I’m telling you all that you need to get it too - you won’t regret it!!

There was so much to love about this book. I’ll start with the characters of which I adored - where can I get myself a meddlesome Grandma Flo??? Oh and a Chris Evans firefighter lookalike? Because sign me up! I know a book is great when I’m sat grinning whilst reading and you can bet that’s exactly what I did whilst reading this one!

I love an easy read and whilst this was an easy read there was a few heavy themes involved written in a way that doesn’t weigh you down. I felt myself relating to the character and my own experiences and feeling inspired for my own journey of self acceptance. Crystal is a curvy queen and I am HERE for it. Whilst this is a romance novel there are things to learn and I admire when an author writes about these things in a way that is easy to understand.

My only teeeeny dislike over this book is it felt a little “insta-lovey” at time and that is really down to personal preference. I still absolutely love the relationship and can we just take a minute to appreciate that bathtub scene like 🥵🥵🔥🌶. Also I will be accepting applications for someone who will create Lizzo playlists for when we drive together 👀.

Set On You is released May 12th and you’ll bet I’ll be ordering myself a physical copy.

I absolutely loved this book. It was so cute and I adored both Crystal and Scott as characters, as well as together in their relationship.
Crystal and Scott met at the gym and both have a shared love of fitness, and I loved that this was a completely different setting from any other romance books I have ever read.
I loved the banter between these two characters and found myself laughing so much at the petty things they were doing to annoy each other at the beginning of the book.
There was just something so soft and sweet in the romance between these two characters, but this book also talks about a lot of important topics such as body image and the dangers of social media.
I definitely will be picking up Amy Lea's future releases as I absolutely loved this one.
Also I am obsessed and in love with the cover of this book.

This was SUCH a good book and a wonderful debut.

I absolutely loved Crystal and Scott, how they met, their banter and the development of their feelings and relationship. Their connection was believable and their chemistry was undeniable in my opinion. The first time they kissed in the locker room at the gym was so hot!

I feel like Scott could have been more developed as a character, but also that we got a little bit more insight into Crystal - whilst her being a fitness Instagrammer/influencer is obviously a large part of her life, at times it felt like that was her only trait which is not the case at all.

I also can't help but feel like the entire book was one massive ad. Nike, Lululemon, Kim Kardashian... I wasn't a fan of all the brand and celebrity name dropping as it was done excessively. I did appreciate comparing Scott to Chris Evans though - it was easier for me to imagine what he'd look like, and I am a big fan of him in general.

Despite this I really enjoyed the story and the overall message of the book, and I look forward to reading more of Amy Lea's work in the future.

Firstly, huge thanks to NetGalley and Penguin for allowing me to read an advanced copy of Set on You!

Set On You follows curvy fitness influencer,
Crystal Chen and firefighter, Scott Ritchie. the smug new gym patron who routinely steals her favorite squat rack. In the lead up to their grandparents' wedding, Crystal discovers there's a soft heart under Scott's muscled exterior. But when a photo of them goes viral, savage internet trolls put their budding relationship to the test.

My favourite thing about this book was the body positivity, I adored the way this was incorporated into the storyline. The setting of fitness and gym was also great, I don’t think I’ve read a book like this before so I really enjoyed that setting!

It took me a while to get used to our main characters, I’m not sure why but I didn’t warm to either of them much at the beginning but I eventually fell for them and found them both to be really relatable characters which made me laugh out loud at times.

The writing was easy to read and I found myself getting through the book much quicker than I usually would. It was also fun to see bookstagrammers be mentioned it in it too :)

I’d recommend this to those who love an easy, steamy read with big emphasis on the enemies to lovers!

This was such a sweet and sassy read! I'm a big fan of the enemies to lovers trope so couldn't wait to get stuck into this. Plus, body diversity? Here for it, always!

The best part of this for me was the banter. It really had some laugh out loud moments that made this really easy to breeze through. I also liked Crystal's journey as an individual a lot.

Where it fell down slightly for me was with how quickly the romance progressed. This it totally personal preference, but I'm a HUGE slow burn girl and this was definitely more for fans of insta love. Their first kiss in particular came about VERY quickly for me. I also felt Scott's character could use a little more depth, as he paled in comparison to Crystal who was so well developed.

But I'd definitely recommend this for fans of fun, enemies to lovers romances!

(Note: I did also take issue with a couple of occasions where mental health disorders are used like adjectives, but I've since heard that these will not appear in the finished copy which makes me very happy to hear. So I haven't let this affect my rating!).

Given the huge number of influencers in the book industry at the moment I must say I found this book pretty entertaining! With a brilliant cast of characters to back up two fantastic leads, it’s funny and sweet and the perfect book for a sunny summer weekend.

Set On You is out 12th May!

A romance novel with a plus size woc is just what I needed!

I really enjoyed this book! I liked that it wasn’t your conventional plot line, with Set on You having the focus being centred around the gym and fitness. I found it light-hearted and easy to read. I liked that it reflected the negative sides of social media – trolls and also showed Crystal’s struggle with her body image in a way that I feel we as readers can relate to. I think the whole message on body positivity was handled well and the romance between the two characters was lovely to read.

A feel-good romance and a great debut novel!

‘ “The truth is, I no longer use terms like ‘body positivity’ and ‘self-love.’ Instead, I now use ‘body respect’ and ‘self-acceptance.’ Why? Because loving yourself ALL THE TIME is unrealistic.’

This. Book. Scotty is up there with my fave book boyfriends! A plus size woc mc and a cheeky sarcastic hot firefighter? YES PLEASE.

I loved the sexual tension. I loved the smut scenes! I loved the journey Crys goes on. This book had me laughing and crying.

(I received this arc from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review)

Set on You follows Crystal, a fitness influencer, who meets new guy at the gym, Scott. Naturally, the pair don't get off the to the best start but when family events bring them together outside of the gym and they start spending more time together, their feelings start to change.

I really enjoyed this book! Crystal was a great protagonist to read from and I particularly enjoyed the fitness influencer focus. Although I don't love the gym as much as Crystal does, I know a lot of women do and this book and Crystal will be relatable to many. I found the discussion on topics like body positivity and online trolling to be important topics to cover and were written well. I liked Scott and the relationship between the two, although I would have liked to read from his perspective as well to delve deeper into his character and to feel like we are getting the bigger picture from another perspective.

Sidenote: I read this book on Easter Sunday and the book is partially set over Easter! How fun! Definitely interested in reading more from this author in the future!

A modern and uplifting romcom, full of reassurance, body respect and self-acceptance. It's the perfect comfort read featuring my favorite trope - enemies to lovers - with a hint of forced proximity (thanks Grandma Flo!).

The MC felt like a friend and, as 28 year old, the pithy pop culture references were delightfully nostalgic. Even if it did have the SPOILER 80% break up SPOILER we love to hate.

As with many books, make sure to read the authors note for content warnings before you begin.

Full disclosure, if I hadn't seen this Book enthusiastically recommended by a couple of Booktubers, I wouldn't have requested a copy on NetGalley because, let's face it, the gym is the last place on earth you'd find me! My lack of athletic prowess aside, I didn't despise the gym scenes (mainly for the Crystal/Scott dynamic...), so even if you're more of a couch potato than a crossfitter, you shouldn't hesitate to pick up this book.

Please tell me Tara is getting her own companion novel soon?!
