This was a cute book with wonderful illustrations about the meaning of Christmas and the joys we share at holiday times.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. Cute book about a little bird who finds what Christmas is about.
The premise behind this book is cute as it is about a little bird who goes to find Christmas as if it is an actual person. The little bird journeys through town and observes people going about typical traditional holiday traditions such as shopping post office, decorating, etc.
Mama bird eventually goes to show Little Bird where her favorite place is to find Christmas and this is where the story loses me because it takes a religious turn. The story shares the religious reason behind Christmas. I am not against a religious book by any means, however, the description did not indicate that this was a religious book. It is written as a children's book but I think that it should state that it has a religious component as every person has their own views and belief system and when they may want to instill religion on their children or not.
The images are great and have a very festive feeling to them.
Rating: 2 out of 5 because I wish I had known about the religious turn to the story in the book. I think transparency is important and I had thought this was strictly a children's Christmas book about the spirit of Christmas and being with family and friends and helping others.
Many thanks to Sourcebooks Kids and Netgalley for this review copy. This is my honest opinion.
This year I joined a reading challenge to help clear your Netgalley books and Little Bird Finds Christmas is adding to the challenge. This cute adorable Christmas picture book features Little Bird who learns from his mother that Christmas is coming. Little Bird waits and waits, but Christmas hasn't arrived. He gets impatient and so he flies out to see if A) he can find Christmas and B) at the same time discover what Christmas is. Little Bird in the end discovers that Christmas isn't something physical but overall, a feeling of family time, love, joy, and happiness and a time of reflection and quality. It's not about how many presents you get or how wealthy you are or how many people you spend it with. Christmas is a time that you spend with the ones that you love, the ones that matter the most. This cute picture book beautifully illustrated by Janet Samuel is the perfect Christmas read for children aged 3-6 years old and an addded bonus if you love birds and animals.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book is adorable and the pictures are really cute as well!
This sweet picture book features a young bird who is exciting to find Christmas. She flies all over her town looking for Christmas in places like the post office and the department stores and is confused because she just can't seem to find it. Her mother explains that Christmas is about Jesus and that Christmas is in our hearts. She relates this idea back to the fact that all of the people out at post offices and stores are trying to share the love that they have with their friends and families through gifts. It is a nice way of explaining both meanings of Christmas (religious and as a time to spread joy with others). The font is clean and is either white on a dark background or black on a white/light background. There are just a few lines of text per page and bright, interesting pictures. I could definitely see myself recommending this for anyone who is looking for a Christmas gift to a child who is religious. I would recommend it for children in the age 3-6 range. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review this book!
My daughter and I loved this heartfelt Christmas book. My daughter has already been telling me about what Christmas means to her and this book just solidified it for her. She really enjoyed little bird searching for Christmas and then learning the true meaning by the end of the book.
My Review: This was such a cute little board book. Little bird hunts throughout a small town and forest looking for Christmas, because it is coming. Little Bird sees a lot of the familiar sights we associate with the holiday season, lights and decorations, gifts, carols, and more but just can't find Christmas. When Mama reveals that Christmas is a holiday and the spirit of the holiday and that it lives in you, it will spark some great conversations with littles about the true spirit of Christmas and how it isn't all about the gifts under the tree. It is a nice way to steer the talk away from all the commercialism of the holiday and bring it back to home and family.
My Rating: This was such a great book for the littles in your life. The bright colors and illustrations will keep their attention and the content of the story will spark some great questions and conversations with them as well. I give this one a rating of Four Paws!
Little bird go seek in Christmas but it’s not in the store with all the gifts. It’s not in the food market with the lovely smells. So where can little bird find Christmas? Mama helps him find Christmas by reminding him what it’s about. It’s about love, it’s about family and it’s about honoring Jesus. This is a religious Christmas story, but it’s not an overly preachy Christmas story. It gets to the heart of the matter and shares the meaning of Christmas and the reason for those who believe is such.
We aren't a religious family, and I hadn't realized the religious overtones this story would have - but it was cute and well explained nonetheless. The illustrations were lovely and my kids enjoyed listening to it. We also love the 'Christmas comes from within you.. not to be found in a place specifically' message.
Thank you to SOURCEBOOKS Kids, Sourcebooks Jabberwocky and NetGalley for this ARC!
I loved this picture book, Little Bird Finds Christmas. It combines the customs (presents, decorations etc.) with the Christian meaning of Christmas. Little Bird asks his/her mother where to find Christmas. Mother tells her that she will tell and show her the next day. When Little Bird wakes up alone, she heads off to find both her mother and Christmas. She observes the humans bustling around doing all the things we do to get ready for the holiday, but is sad that she doesn't find Christmas. When she returns to the nest, mother arrives letting her know that she was following her all the time. They discuss what she saw and how this connects to the first Christmas through our hearts. It was a touching story, and one that reminded me how often I need to read the Christmas/Nativity story to my grandchildren so they don't forget the true meaning of Christmas. The illustrations were lovely and we had some nice discussions about Christmas, the upcoming preparations and how to keep the true meaning front and center. This is a wonderful story for Christian families, Sunday School or church libraries.
⭐⭐⭐ -- Adorable cover!
The illustrations (from what I could see) were adorable in this one. The story itself was cute with religious overtones that I wasn't aware of when I requested it. I wasn't overly bothered by that as the story was still very sweet. However, I had a major issue with this book. There was no option to download this ARC file as a PDF and it just did not display properly on my Kindle app. The illustrations were cut off and it was TINY, which made it even harder to read. 🤷🏻♀️

This is a nice book, but it does lean towards the religious side of Christmas, so if you don't want that, then this one may not be for you. It does have the overall message that Christmas does not come from a store or food, but a feeling in your heart, and that is sweet.
Thanks to Netgalley and Sourcebooks Jabberwocky for a free digital copy.
A cute book about finding the true meaning of Christmas. I don't completely agree with the theology of the message, but I do think it's a sweet book.
Little Bird Finds Christmas is a lovely and heartwarming picture book that depicts the real importance of the Christmas season. Marianne Richmond’s story is sweet and easy-to-follow. I love Janet Samuel’s bright and adorable full-page illustrations! This is an easy holiday read that will bring the warmth and joy of Christmas into your little readers’ hearts!
Follow along on this quick and simple journey with Little Bird as she sets out on a mission to find Christmas. Although Little Bird visits the Big Store, the Food Market, and the Post Office, she can’t seem to find Christmas anywhere! However, with the help of her wise and beloved Mama, our sweet Little Bird soon finds that the true meaning of Christmas is a lot closer than she thinks!
This is a heartwarming and easy-to-read story! The religious overtones are gentle but very present. But, I didn’t find them to be forced or pushy. I love the book’s sweet and timeless messages about love, family, and togetherness. I particularly like that the book doesn’t give a singular traditional definition of Christmas: it can be the love in our hearts as well as us wanting to show our love by sharing gifts with others, gathering together with our community, and remembering those who live far away.
Samuel’s full-page and full-colour illustrations are cheerful and lovely! Every page feels so cozy and Christmassy with the familiar seasonal colours, decorated stores, and snow-covered scenery. I really appreciate the diversity of the human characters. I also love all the wonderful little details like the squirrels decorating their tree with acorns and berries. Little Bird’s tree and nest are also beautifully decorated! The animal characters are just darling. I love Little Bird. She has such a wonderfully expressive face! She is so cute and cozy in her fluffy hat and boots! Mama Bird is also adorable with her happy and loving face.
🐥 🐥 🐥 🐥 🐥 out of 5 little birds!
This is the cutest Christmas story for the kids. The pictures and illustrations are beautiful and this is a book I will be buying and putting in my home and school library.
This is a special book that I can see a parent or loved one reading to a child. The text and the illustrations are matched so well in tone and feeling. It will make a beautiful gift to give which I plan to do!
Cute quick read with fun pictures to look at. I really enjoyed the message that mama bird gave to the baby as to why Christmas is what she’s observed. I didn’t realize this had a religious perspective so I figured I would mention, for those looking for it to avoid. Would recommend to add to your holiday reading list.
Little Bird Finds Christmas is a children’s book with religious overtones. If you are not comfortable with that, please be aware before reading it.
I found the book entertaining and believe my youngest grandchildren would enjoy it. The illustrations are beautifully done and the message is simple enough for young ones.
The idea that giving gifts from the heart is our thank you to God, was a concept I haven’t thought about before. I do love that the book emphasizes that Christmas is found in your heart.
This book is a must-have for church classrooms and families that observe this holiday.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for sharing an advance digital copy with me. This review is my honest, unbiased opinion.

4 Stars
Little Bird Finds Christmas is an adorable little book with a lot of heart. I love the charming illustrations. They're cheerful and brilliantly colorful to hold a child's attention. The text is clear and easy to read. Come join Little Bird on their journey to find Christmas. This book is a good way to share the love of Christmas with the young children in your life. It leaves the reader thankful with a full heart.
Note: God is mentioned in this book. Not in a pushy way, but I thought I'd mention it because everyone isn't Christian.
