This was a very quick read—perfect for an afternoon on the beach. I enjoyed the "PhD" parts of Abby's story and would have loved more on that. My one criticism is the speed with which everything happens. **SLIGHT SPOILER AHEAD** Abby is supposed to spend six weeks tutoring and one week in—having never met any of the other characters before, and having spoken to Richard two or three times—everyone's talking about love and having feelings for each other! Otherwise, this is a well-written book and I'll look out for more by the author.
Thank you #Netgalley for the advanced copy!
I am a fan of Kristin Rockaway's books and was excited to receive an early copy and it did not disappoint. In this read we follow Abby, a PhD student who just had her work stolen from her. She is currently in a grad program were her advisor took credit for her findings and no one believes her. She is so upset and stuck, doesn't know what to do and feels the department is shutting her out. She decides to increase her tutoring hours and is offered a job of a lifetime, to tutor for 6 weeks for a billionaire's daughter on a yacht traveling the world. She packs up and leaves within 2 days unsure what to expect but knows she needs to escape her current situation.
On the yacht, Abby meets Richard, Bijou and Coco, all of which become close to Abby, some more than others. We observe Abby tutor 4 hours a day, and we see the father daughter dynamics. Abby encourages Richard to prioritize his daughter and to take her on adventures and eventually includes Abby on these excursions. We watch relationships grow as well as personal growth of both Richard and Abby. A fun read!
this was really enjoyable. it's definitely different than the usual billionaire romance novels and i liked that. i was really interested in abby's background with being a phd student in academia. all of the characters were super likeable. personally, i found it a little predictable but what's a good book without some predictability? overall, it's a cute summer read and would definitely recommend.
This was super fun to read and easy. Would read it all over again if I could!
The author really knows how to make you addicted to the whole book in every chapter.
What a smart sexy romance! Smart girl Summer is the new hot girl Summer. I absolutely love this book. The main character is winsome and smart and I couldn’t absolutely wait to find out what happened. Definitely recommend!
I had a picture in my head of how this book would play out. I thought it would be another Billionaire steamy romance added to the never ending pile. Instead, I read a thoughtful, vibrant story with characters I grew to love. I flew through this book, the writing so well done it was far too easy to read this in one sitting.
My biggest criticism is probably the character of Richard - aka our leading man. I just never felt like I actually got a true sense of who he was. It was explained time and time again what type person he was and yet he never came to life for me in the same way Abby and Bijou did.
No spoilers - I love how Abby ended up. It was a refreshing change for a leading lady. Sometimes things come to an end in our life as anticlimactic as the thing that came to and end for her.
I would have liked slightly steamier scenes (not necessarily explicit) to really amp up the passion that was described. I was told their chemistry was passionate rather than being allowed to experience it.
Bijou was charming and wonderful. I usually get annoyed with children in books but Bijou was well written.
Overall I really enjoyed this. It was well written with mostly interesting characters. After reading this, it's safe to say I'm craving a holiday! This would be a perfect beach read.
