In These Numbered Days, Annie Wolff tries to win back the trust of her now-teenage children after leaving the family due to mental health struggles several years prior. Amidst clashes with the children's guardians and a budding romance, Annie works to discover her present day self.

I am not including this in my rating, but NetGalley readers should know that romance is a big plot point despite not being listed as such in the genre classification. I am typically not a romance fan and wouldn't have requested it, but I think it was worth the read even so. The author does a good job of introducing challenging, weighted events, while maintaining sensitivity to those who might be or have experienced similar things. It was a nice story, and the length and pacing fit well.

Note: I received a free ebook copy of These Numbered Days from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Eight years ago, Annie walked away from her young children, now teens, because of mental health concerns, assuming they were better off without her. When their father dies and they are about to be adopted by an aunt and uncle, she decides it is time to return. This was okay but I didn't love it. I understood where Annie was coming from with the depression and how it just crushed her in so many ways. Coming back after so long and just rejoining her family, it seemed too easy. I mean, it was hard, yes. There were challenges, but would it really work out that well? I don't know. 2.5 stars rounded to 3.

4.5 stars! I loved this so much!

After her ex-husband dies, leaving her children in the care of their aunt and uncle, Annie returns home to give herself peace of mind that they are okay. She has every intention of leaving…until she doesn’t.
This book deals with a lot of raw emotions and painful topics. Suicide, suicidal ideation, depression, anxiety, self harm, and prejudices are all approached in a tasteful way. The characters are well developed and deep. The romance that develops is natural, sweet, and wholesome. Annie is an awesome character- I loved her so much. She grew so much throughout the story. Highly recommended!

This book was a very hard read for me, simply because it covers so many hard topics. Suicide, suicidal ideation, depression, anxiety, self harm, and prejudices are all touched on, and even though I think the author went about it in a great way, it still can be hard for some people to read.

I really fell in love with Annie, and felt that I could really relate to her. She embodies the anxiety that so many mothers feel in a way that is so relatable and raw.

I think this could be a great read for anyone, so long as they knew about the heavy topics before starting it!
