Dreamland starts as a story with 4 people, Colby and Morgan, and Beverly and her son. It had me kind of confused at first, but kept with the story.
Colby lives on a farm in NC, but takes a chance on a music gig and goes to Florida, where he meets Morgan. Morgan is from Chicago, and is also pursuing her love of music. They slowly fall in love, and Morgan eventually leaves to follow her dreams. Colby is called back to the farm because of an emergency.
Beverly and her son, are running from her abusive husband. As usual, Nicholas Sparks ties these 2 stories together in his usual fantastic fashion.
Fans won't be disappointed in this story.
A different type of story from Sparks. It was interesting trying to figure out how the two halves of the story were connected and also sometimes hard to flip back and forth. There was a true payoff at the end for what happens.
In the past few years I’ve felt like Nicholas Sparks has take more risks with his writing and this book was no exception! A classic Sparks love story was woven within these chapters but what really captured my attention was Beverly. Her story gave definite Safe Haven vibes and I was hooked trying to figure out just how her story was connected to Colby’s.
Each chapter ended with me wanting to know more, and I was able to connect to Colby and Morgan on a deeper level because I had a somewhat similar experience meeting my husband! (We met in Florida over a 2 week period and I had always joked it was straight out of a Nicholas Sparks novel!)
What I found a little lacking was that spark - you know the one I’m talking about where you can understand why they’ve suddenly fallen in love? Their story was not as deep as I felt it could have been, if only because it was woven with another one in one book.
Overall though, I really enjoyed the story and was struck by the message Nicholas Sparks portrayed through his writing.
If you’re a Sparks fan, I think you’ll enjoy this one!
Thank you @netgalley @randomhouse for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review!
I don't read romance novels.... Except those by Nicholas Sparks. This one did not disappoint. It has two story lines which were totally different. A romance between a farmer and a recent college grad who are both giving music careers a try, and a mom and son running from an abusive husband/father with lots of connections to find them. Twists and turns, mystery, troubled and rescues and romance. Great!
Thank you to Random House Publishing Group and Net Galley for this arc. This book was about two characters who lead seperate lives but who are reunited at the end. I am not a fan of this type of writing since I had to reread to see what was happening. Nicholas Sparks book do not disappoint, I will continue to read his books.
This one was an intriguing story. It touches on love, family, and so much more. Told through multiple POV’s and settings, with a truly surprising twist at the end. It wasn’t a lighthearted read, but it was captivating and kept me turning pages quickly to find out how it would conclude.
Thank you to Random House for the opportunity to read an advanced NetGalley copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I love the new direction Nicholas Sparks has taken in this novel and think it might be my favourite one! It's worth all the stars!
Sparks explores what it involves to risk it all in pursuit of a dream and questions if it’s ever possible to leave the past behind.
To do so, he’s crafted three incredible characters. Colby Mills is a 25 year old guy with a big heart who was headed for an aspiring musical career when he was sidelined by family duties. Readers will instantly love him and will be invested in his journey from the start. After so much heartache, I just wanted him to be happy. I loved his introspection in these questions: “Did love carry with it the power to make a person question everything? Did love make a person want to become someone new?”
Morgan Lee, the 21 year old influencer with aspirations was annoying, asked too many questions, and was too in your face, but she was perfect for Colby. Despite not appreciating her personality, I loved her determination and loved her insight into the fake world of social media influencers.
The timeline with Beverly and her six-year-old son, Tommie, was my favourite. I was instantly hooked reading about her escape and was on the edge of my seat hoping they’d make it to safety. I honestly couldn’t imagine how these two timelines would merge and was blown away when they did - a manoeuver only an accomplished writer can pull off!
This needs to top your reading list…NOW!
I absolutely loved the heart-pounding suspense, the introspection, the romance, and the twists I did not see coming!
I was gifted this advance copy by Random House Publishing Group and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
Another good love story from Nicholas Sparks. This book explores themes of love, long-distance relationships, family, and, mental health as Colby tries to figure out who he is, what he wants, and what he is not willing to give up.
Highly recommended for Nicholas Sparks fans and those looking for an easy to read love story.
* I received an advanced reader’s copy of this book from NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada, Doubleday Canada in exchange for my honest review
Nicholas Sparks is known for his sweet romances and this book is no exception. It has wonderful characters, ones you can fall in love with and root for. Characters that put everything in front of themselves. I absolutely loved this book. I lost myself in this book and did not want to stop reading. Excellent book!!!
This was a fantastic drama by Nicholas Sparks! As a singer myself, I could easily see all the trouble with writing a good song vs being a really great singer. I did not expect what happened with Beverly. All the back and forth emotions. We also live on a farm and know how hard it is to leave even for a day. You just have to keep turning the pages to see what is going to happen next.
Dreamland has two fascinating story lines, one centered on Colby, a young man who runs his family farm, but loves music and performing and takes a break from the farm to accept a brief engagement to sing and perform in St. Petersburg, Fl. While there, he meets Morgan, who also desires a career in music. The other story is centered on Beverly, a woman running with her young son, from an abusive marriage. The book alternates between the two as Colby and Morgan become closer, and Beverly finds danger at every turn. As the story unfolds, the two stories merge in a most unexpected way for a very compelling, unusual ending that was a complete surprise. The book had all of the suspense of a first-class mystery, and is also a wonderful, hopeful romance! I thoroughly enjoyed it! Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for my complimentary cop

I haven’t been so fond of the last few books Nicholas Sparks released but I still wanted to give this one a shot, and it didn’t disappoint! I really enjoyed the dual point of views and how you had to wait until almost the end for all of the pieces to come together. At first, one of the storylines reminded me a lot of Safe Haven but veered in a completely different direction which I was thankful for. Would definitely recommend to any fellow old school Sparks fans!
I have read everyone of Spark's books and found this one to be a great change of pace.
What I loved:
1. While the dual timeline was initially confusing it all came together well in the end. Sparks did a great job at timing the big reveal and proved once again why everyone keeps buying his books.
2. Beverly's timeline was suspenseful and held my attention in a way I didn't expect.
3. I thought that Sparks did a great job of conveying the family responsibility that Colby carried and how it will always effect his life. I think quite a few people are in that boat and will find it relatable.
The characters of one timeline were definently a bit underdeveloped and this was a very slow burn, but it wasn't enough to turn off the reader. If you're a fan of Sparks I think you'll enjoy how different this one is while still being entertained.
This was a lackluster read for me, very predictable and uninspired. I think I'm no longer into Sparks in this day and age
Dreamland by Nicholas Sparks is another one of his excellent standalone novels. Dreamland has two POV’s that focus on Colby, and a different one focusing on Beverly. We meet Colby, our hero, who runs a farm in North Carolina, with his sister, Paige and Aunt; he loves writing songs, but gave it up to assume his responsibility to be the head of the family and restore the farm. While things seem to be working good, Colby, accepts a three-week gig at bar in St. Pete’s Beach, Florida with his sister and aunt, encouraging him to take a break.
While performing his music, he meets Morgan Lee, who also loves music, and plans to move to Nashville. Colby finds himself falling hard for Morgan, who knows what she wants, coming from a wealthy family, musical education and a wonderful voice. Morgan and Colby begin to spend more time together, romantically and musically. It was nice to see them write songs, with each helping each other with the words. Colby thinks Morgan can become a big star, with her voice, and as they fall in love, she tries to convince him to join her in Nashville. But an unexpected crisis will change everything. Will Colby and Morgan find a way to be together?
The other POV, deals with Beverly, who is on the run with her six-year-old son, fleeing her abusive husband. She begins a new life in a small town; living in a house, and finances are low. Beverly knows she needs to get a job, and while Tommy is in school, she looks around for a cash paying job, since she left without her id. Beverly knows her husband has contacts, and works for Homeland; she continues to be alert. Then she discovers unusual things in the house, as well as a truck that keeps stopping by the house; she panics and makes plans to run again.
Reading through the first half of the book, I was sort of confused, as to how these POV’s fit in the story. But when we get closer to the last quarter, there is a major twist that throws us for a loop.
Dreamland is a wonderful story of responsibility, family, tragedy, music and love. I loved Colby and Morgan together, as they made a wonderful couple, and their songwriting was terrific. Beverly’s story was scary and tense, with a surprising twist. Dreamland was so very well written by Nicholas Sparks, which kept me unable to put the book down. I suggest you read Dreamland.
Nicholas Sparks does it again! I absolutely devoured this book! It was such a good read and I loved it! I can not wait to get my hands on a physical copy when it comes out
I love Nicholas Sparks' writing and I enjoyed reading this book, but unfortunately it was definitely not my favorite.
There are two main POVs and I loved the one that focused around Beverly, a lady who is fleeing an abusive husband. Her chapters were filled with heart and suspense and I felt very connected to the character and her journey. I couldn't put the book down when I was reading her chapters. I also really enjoyed the ending and of course it wouldn't be a Nicholas Sparks book if I didn't end in tears.
Now for the other POV, I really just didn't buy the relationship between Morgan and Colby at all; it seemed very shallow and was just missing something that made me believe it. It really seemed to focus on how physically beautiful Morgan was. The whole what would a "beautiful" on the outside girl like her want with a guy like me thing went on for way too long. He kept being shocked by how smart or sophisticated she was even though she was really pretty and totally surprised that she was more than just a pretty face. He was always commenting on how tiny she is. Twice in less than five pages he says how she doesn't weigh enough to tip the kayak and asked her "you eat cookies? You don't look like you eat cookies." And that for breakfast she only eats green tea and green juice. Is that something to admire? I mean it's fine if that is your thing, but he seemed to be proud of how tiny she was and how little she ate. I really feel that the descriptions of Morgan could use some major editing to make her more relatable. It would change the book for me entirely as the overall premise and plot line was very good!
This Nicholas Sparks novel starts out with Colby who is a farmer and a aspiring singer who goes on a vacation to Florida to sing in a friends bar. He meets Morgan, who is also wanting to be a singer. But then we jump to a whole different character and a much different setting. Beverly is on the run with her son from a abusive marriage. Now in Sparks description of his own book he says they both intertwined and are connected, so as Im reading along im trying to figure out the connection, so i did what do sometimes when i just want to know, i skipped to the end. After I got the idea of what was going on i read the book from the beginning and i feel i was better able to enjoy the book that way and see deeply into the issue that is at hand. Honestly I wasnt a fan of the relationship with Morgan and Colby. I just couldnt believe the relationship between them, it felt shallow and too fast and forced. Beverlys struggles however i felt all the emotions with her, i was rushing to the end just so i could read how her story ends. Dream land was a quick and easy read but i would give it 3 stars.
Thanks to NetGalley and the Publishers for a free copy of this book for my honest review.
I have read most of Nicholas Sparks's books and this is one of the best. As this one begins, a young man sets off to Florida on a rare vacation away from the farm. It is at least almost a vacation. He is the entertainment at a local motel several nights a week while there, a career he once wanted. While there he meets a young woman just out of college with amazing musical talent. She is headed to Nashville, when her vacation is over, he is going back to the family farm. In another place, a young mother is on a journey with her young son. It is a dangerous one and she must protect and care for him at all costs. The stories are tied together. This is a book about love and loss, family and illness, and how the human heart and head remain a mystery. I enjoyed the plot, the characters, and the way the story came together. We have all known the journey of love and family this book is about. Thanks to #Dreamland#NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I’ve been reading Nicholas Sparks for over 15 years. I love a good romance story. When I received an ARC of Dreamland I was so excited! I was also pleasantly surprised to see this was a sort of dual POV which we don’t always get reading a Sparks book.
I really enjoyed Colby’s story. We see singer/songwriter/farmer Colby in Florida where he’s currently working at a bar/restaurant as a singer. His background story is a tough one as we see a lot in Sparks novels and he is away from his family for the first time ever. He left behind his sister and aunt to run the family farm while he got a chance to live a dream performing for a crowd.
While in Florida he meets a woman, Morgan, who quickly consumes his thoughts. The closer they get the quicker they both fall. However, Colby is keeping a secret from Morgan and he’s not sure how she’ll take it once she finds out.
Beverly is a woman on the run with her son Tommie. She fled an abusive husband and is looking to start over. She thought she covered her tracks as best she could, but weird things start occurring that have her questioning just how well she hid their tracks.
When these two stories cross you’ll be shocked to find out how these POV’s connect.
I loved the ending of this story! And I think if you’re a Nicholas Sparks fan you’ll enjoy Colby and Beverly’s stories as well!
