Nicholas Sparks has been a favorite author for many years, so when the Publisher allowed me to read an ARC, I was thrilled. It’s been awhile since I stayed up late to read and picked the book right back up the next morning. There are two storylines going, and I could not stop reading to try to place how they were going to come together. Definitely did not happen as I expected. As in true NS fashion, there is romance and drama; water locations and thunderstorms. I appreciated how he exposes a true stigma in our society (won’t say as I don’t want to give anything away). I definitely enjoyed the storylines and the building of what would become of these characters.
I read quite a few Spark’s books in high school and didn’t revisit his work again until reading The Wish a couple months ago, which I really enjoyed. I can’t say I liked this one more, The Wish made me cry for chrissakes, but it was a solid read that I couldn’t put down. I’ve seen a few reviews mention this one having an unpredictable twist, which I debunk because I figured out the twist by the 30% mark (I’m always on a mission to find out whodunnit, thriller not required). There are two separate POV chapters, Colby and Beverly, broken up into seven parts throughout the book. I really like that Sparks wrote it that way rather than having alternating chapters that can feel choppy and disconnected. I much preferred Beverly’s story to Colby’s. It was just so suspenseful and interesting! Colby was a good character but instalove just isn’t my trope and him and Morgan were giving me total Grease’s Summer Nights vibes. I do like how we didn’t get any answers until the last chapter and I thought the epilogue was really satisfying. I think this would actually make a really good movie. Overall, a decent read and I will definitely continue to keep up with Spark’s new releases.
This was one of the best Nicholas Sparks books I’ve read in a long time! Dual storylines intertwine for a fast-paced page-turner with cliffhangers around every turn (except the end!). This book gave me Safe Haven vibes. Classic Nick Sparks in all the right ways.
On the one hand, Colby and Morgan’s romance was a little too instalove and a little lukewarm for me. Beverly’s story, on the other hand, was totally engrossing. I could not put this book down. It’s been a long time since I’ve read one of Spark’s books this quickly. I was fascinated and horrified at times. This book has a darker feel to it. I remember loving Safe Haven when I read it the first time, and parts of this book gave me all those feels again. Beverly’s story is truly haunting, and my heart shattered for her. One thing this book does exceptionally well is paint and a very vivid picture of what it looks like to lose control.
Fans of Safe Haven and The Guardian will love Dreamland!!
I've been a huge fan of Nicholas Sparks for YEARS. Ever since The Last Song and A Walk to Remember. This book has a slow-burn romance that tugs at your heartstrings.
Thank you so much to Random House publishing & NetGalley for the chance to early read Dreamland by Nicholas Sparks.

This was an impassioned tale of two people searching for their dream while dealing with decisions and events of the past. Two stories unfold simultaneously, coming together for a captivating finish. There is lots of emotion and turmoil, and I found the book entertaining and hard to put down.
I have not read a Nicholas Sparks book in years so thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group for this advanced copy. Make sure to check out Dreamland when it’s released next month!
This story is set up in an interesting way. For 75% of the book there are two separate stories being told, one of a farmer/singer and the other of a woman and son who flee an abusive relationship. The entire time I was reading I was trying to predict how the stories would intersect and while I guessed some parts, overall it was a surprise! When we learn many of the truths it is definitely a gut punch. Nicholas Sparks had me on a ride with this one!
Wow.
Nicholas Sparks strikes again. I’d read anything he writes. I didn’t bother to read the synopsis of this as I preferred to go in blind. (And the cover is gorgeous.)
We meet Colby, a musician and farmer from North Carolina. He has a sad backstory and has worked to become the man he is today. He’s currently on a well deserved vacation in Florida & is playing gigs at a beach bar. He meets Morgan and their chemistry is instant. She just graduated college and has so much ambition. Just as the reader begins to become completely smitten with these two we meet Beverly.
This book follows two stories. Beverly is on the run from her abusive husband with her 6 year old son. (This reminded me a lot of Safe Haven!) her tale is so heartbreaking. It made me yearn for Colby’s parts of the book. But I was also so captivated by her will to survive and do what’s best for her child.
As the book continues we go back and forth between the two. The whole time I read I couldn’t place what these two could possibly have to do with one another- even wondering why these weren’t two separate books. Until it all clicked. No spoilers here but WOW. My jaw dropped open.
I had to let this story marinate in my head after I finished reading. So many beautiful aspects. Such important life lessons touched upon. Sparks goes so far as to define what types of love should matter the most for us. What a story!! I’ll be thinking about this for a long time.
4.5 stars!!
I have always enjoyed Nicholas Spark's books and so when I saw that I got this one early I was super excited to read it. I do feel this one was a bit different than his other usual books and writing styles but still really enjoyed the story and how everything played out. I loved Colby and his story and how he formed a relationship with a girl named Morgan, their chemistry together was great. Now with Beverly, I was kinda confused to where it was going with her and her story. I wasnt quite sure how she was going to fit into the story and everything but then it finally all came together towards the end and and I understood her point in the story.
Definitely a good book and definitely would recommend it to others especially if you are already a fan of Nicholas Spark's books!
I haven’t read a Nicholas Sparks book in quite awhile so I thought I would give this one’s try. First, The Notebook and Three Weeks With My Brother were two favorites of mine. I wanted to love this book however, did not quite do it for me. The author had two stories that didn’t come together till the end of the book. The love story between the singers never felt realistic to me. At times the writing felt a little trivial and felt more like a young adult novel. The second storyline about a young mom fleeing her abusive husband with child in tow was more compelling but not too believable to me. The author does tie the two storyline together at the end but it was a little bit of a let down for me. I am sure the book will do well with his zillions of fans. #Dreamland #NicholasSparks #NetGalley
This had 2 plotlines – honestly, both were cliched and boring to me. How they came together in the end was lackluster. Sparks stories and writing hasn’t aged well in my opinion
Thanks to NetGalley and publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
First off, thank you to NetGalley for this ARC.
Ugh. I wanted to love this book and I had really high hopes for it. Unfortunately it just really fell short for me.
This book is written in two POV. One is about a young singer who meets another young singer and their love story. The other is about a woman fleeing from her abusive husband. I had a couple of issues with both.
First, the couple in love. It really felt lacking to me. There were parts missing. Personally, I don’t like if when couples “fall in love” with the drop of a hat. It’s not realistic. Second, there were so many lines written about her food intake. The cookie comment and the comment about her not eating the hamburger bun. I feel like that’s unnecessary and in a world like this where such standards are based on physical appearance, it’s just not needed. It makes me wonder what on earth the author was trying to portray.
Second, the lady on the run. It seemed extremely “Safe Haven” to me. Running from the authority husband who is abusive. There were even similarities about painting the house they fled to yellow. Same as in Safe Haven.
Like I said, I really wanted to love this book.
Thank you so much to @NetGalley for this ARC. I was so excited to get my hands on a new Nicholas Sparks book because I love the messages and romance that his stories portray. Dreamland is about a young man named Colby who is in pursuit of finding out what he wants to do with his life (follow his passion of music or continue to be a farmer) and ends up falling in love. I don’t want to give any spoilers away because there’s a little twist to the ending, but I thoroughly enjoyed this story. 4/5 ⭐️s.
“Did love carry with it the power to make a person question everything? Did love make a person want to become someone new?”
This book was my first ARC book and I am so glad it was a good one! I grew up with Nicholas Sparks books and when I saw this one I knew I had to read it! This book tells a story from two POV and each of their lives are completely different until they become intertwined. This book had me so interested in how these two characters could possibly connect because it reads as if it could be two separate books. I was guessing until the end. I also loved how short each chapter was!
If you’re looking for a quick romance read with twists and turns that somehow intertwine this book is for you!
This review hurts me to write. Nicholas Sparks is one of my all time favorite authors. His books are usually five star reads for me. When I received an early copy of this book to review, I don't think I've ever been so excited. But that excitement ended while reading this story. The writing was fine but the story was split into two separate stories. And, unless I missed something major, I never really found how the two stories were connected. Even after going back to check, I could only find one detail that connected the two storylines. I felt as though I was just reading two separate stories in this book. It just didn't work for me, unfortunately.
Dreamland is told from alternating points of view. Colby is a small town farmer who travels to Florida on vacation and to perform at a small beach bar. While there he meets an aspiring musician and in the course of a week, they fall in love. Beverly is fleeing her abusive husband, with her six-year-old son. She is trying to make a new life for herself.
In true Nicholas Sparks fashion, this story is filled with love and heartache. The alternating points of view keep it interesting and the characters are very relatable. I loved everything about this story.
Nicholas Sparks does it again! I loved this book and the way it was written. It was such a great story!
Nicholas Sparks knows how to write a storyline. A different take on his usual writing style, we see intertwining storylines from Colby, a musician on hold, who meets Morgan, and Beverly who is trying to get her and her son Tommie away from her abusive husband. I would recommend this novel to those who love the classic Nicholas Sparks stories and those who seek the rainbow after the storm.
I was so happy to be able to dive into his books once again and fall in love with the characters. I loved the small town feel of the strory and also that they were all able to find their dreams! I how it contained two story lines that ended up intertwining.
7/10
Nicholas Sparks has written 23 books, all of which have been NY Times bestsellers. I’m sure this one will be too.
I have to admit, his story “The Notebook” is one of my all time favorite movies. I’m a sucker for a good love story.
Needless to say, I was excited to read this book - the first Sparks book I’ve ever read. And I was surprised.
Yes. Surprised. I was surprised that the writing wasn’t better. (Those who know me, understand how much I despise when authors use the term “in my mind’s eye”. Sparks used it three times in this book.)
The book follows two stories - that of Colby the farmer who is on a weeks vacation in Florida. And one of Beverly, the mother, who escaped an abusive marriage and is hiding in fear from her husband.
For 90% of the book, these stories have absolutely nothing in common, one of them seems to move very slowly and you wonder if there will ever be a point to the story. Then as you near the end of the book, you realize how the stories crossover. It’s a good reveal.
However, IMHO, you have to put in a heckuva lot of work to get the payoff.
Like I said, I’m sure this book will do very well. People will love it because it’s Nicholas Sparks. I just wish his editor pushed him to make it a little more interesting.
