Part poignant love story part domestic thriller, Sparks is a brilliant writer and this story definitely tugged at my heart strings but the POV of Beverly felt a bit disjointed until deep into the novel. Overall an engaging and solid read, has a different feel from his other works.
If you like a book that will catch you off guard this is it.
Colby and his sister were raised by their aunt and uncle on a farm. Once the uncle passed away Colby took over responsibility of the farm to help his aunt out even though his heart was making music. Colby’s sister is a very talented high end designer of Tiffany lamps. Colby takes a gig in FL on a short vacation and leaves his sister to watch out for their aunt and meets a wonderfully talented girl, Morgan.
Meanwhile there is Beverly who leaves an abusive situation and takes her son and escapes to find themselves in another bad situation.
Will Colby find love? How does Colby’s sister fare with the aunt? Where does Beverly fit into the story?
Interesting read to say the least. I was totally taken by surprise.
I would like to extend a thank you to NetGalley and Random House for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I was very excited to get the ARC for Nicholas Sparks’ new novel, Dreamland, as I’ve always enjoyed his novels. While I did appreciate his writing style, the dual POV and storylines here still have me a little confused. In one chapter, we are reading a cheesy romance between Colby and Morgan. Then, in the next, we’re reading a creepy thriller about Beverly and her son on the run. It felt a little bit like Sparks put a watered-down version of The Notebook and Safe Haven in a blender. Because the stories were so different, I kept trying to find the connection, which spoiled the twist toward the end.
Thank you to Netgalley and Nicholas Sparks for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I've always loved reading Sparks novels and this was no exception. Very emotional and though-provoking, while making me feel like I knew the characters. I liked that this was essentially two stories in one and I couldn't wait to see how they would intertwine. Sparks never disappoints!
I love Nicholas sparks earlier stuff but this was a huge miss for me. We start off learning about Colby, a struggling musician who took over his family’s farm after his grandfathers death. After a gig on the beach, Colby meets Morgan. Young but confident, Morgan also dreams of making it in music. She has found some fame already by gaining a following on TikTok. They instantly bond over song writing and their love of country music. Colby and Morgan’s love story was all well and fine but then we switch to Beverlys POV. Beverly is running away, with her son Tommie, from an abusive ex husband. How does Beverly have anything to do with Colby? Well.. it’s a doozy. I guessed it pretty early on but you find out about 80% of the way in. This story was well written, as Sparks is a great writer and I think he tried something different here sort of making it one part thriller and one part love story, but to me he didn’t execute.
He did it again...such a great book by Nicholas Sparks. The book is from two different POV- Colby & Beverly. I was wondering until almost the very end how these two characters are intertwined- and wow, pretty shocking. Colby, who is in charge of his family farm in NC, takes a few week vacation and sets off to FL. There he meets a young woman named Morgan who will quickly change his life. Beverly, on the other hand, is a mom on the run from an abusive relationship with her 6 year old son. It really is a fantastic read, I don't want to give anything away but I highly recommend!
Wow. Nicholas Sparks has done it again. Every single one of his books has their own twists and turns. With Dreamland, the parallel plots in the first half of the book between Beverly and Colby leave you wondering how the story is going to connect all while meeting Morgan. Every second leaves you interested and enthralled so how the story is going to end. The story of Morgan and Colby and what Beverly has to do in connection to it all.
I am going to let our high school English teacher know about this book, so she can share it with her students.
Dreamland, a novel by Nicholas Sparks, is presented in a dual POV. This is a bit confusing in the beginning but once you convince yourself to go with it and quit trying to make the connection, it is very enjoyable and eventually comes together nicely. This is a story of love and loss. It is about family commitments and the power of love. It is a little different than the typical Spark novel, but as usual, he does not disappoint. This was a quick Sunday read for me.
Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher, for providing me with an ARC ebook in exchange for my honest opinion.
Nobody writes romance like Nicholas Sparks. Dreamland is another feel good, love of my life romance reminiscent of The Notebook and Safe Haven. Colbie Mets Morgan at the beach, while on vacation from his real life, a farm in NC. They both share a love of music and fall quickly in love. But Morgan is just starting her life with a move to Nashville to try her hand at a career in music, while Colbie has an established life in NC farming with his aunt and sister. Both know there will be challenges if they want to be together. But, neither know just how big those challenges will be. Amazing. Well written. Makes you want to be young and in love.. and at the beach! Such a feel good story. Nicolas Sparks knows how to do it.
This book is a perfect weekend read. Didn’t want to put it down! Nicholas Sparks paints a beautiful family story of love and devotion paired with a romantic story full of hope. There’s a twist in the storyline and a little suspense!
Overall a 4 star read! Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for this ARC!
Colby Mills has always had a deep love for music. He decides to try a new gig in Florida playing in a bar. Then he meets Morgan who has a music degree and aspirations to move to Nashville. These two hit it off romantically and musically and form a fast connection. Simultaneously Beverly is on a different kind of journey as she flees an abusive husband with her young son. What could possibly tie these three people together?
As usual Nicholas Sparks has written another great novel, DREAMLAND. I enjoyed the music theme a lot and the characters were perfectly developed and very likable. A pleasant quick and easy read, I would highly recommend.

I have been a huge fan of Nichols Sparks for a long time. I was super excited to get the ARC for Dreamland. Unfortunately, this book missed the mark for me. The story is told from two alternating points of view. The two storylines could not be any more different from each other. I felt like I was reading two different books the entire time; one a cheesy romance and the other a thriller. I kept waiting for the two storylines to come together - which didn't happen until about 80% of the way through. Colby's POV was extremely cheesy and did not really interest me. Beverly's POV was way too similar to Safe Haven. Even at the end when the two storylines tied together it just fell flat for me. I really wanted to enjoy this but I found myself bored with it. I even put it down halfway through and dreaded picking it back up.
I’ve long been a fan of Nicholas Sparks and his bittersweet romantic stories. Dreamland, however, did not resonate with me. The story is told in two alternating voices: Colby, a North Carolina farmer who has taken a rare break to play music at a beach club in Florida and Beverly, who has taken her son and run in the midst of night from an abusive husband. The individual narratives feel like two different novels until the final 15% of the book.
There is an improbable romance. There is mental illness and how it affects families when the individual stops taking required meds( which they always do). Overall, I found Dreamland depressing. Dreamland isn’t bad; however, this book is far from Nicholas Sparks at his best.
This book was heavier than a normal Sparks novel, but it definitely did not disappoint. At first I was confused because of the dual POV’s but there was an aha moment and it came together nicely.
I was really disappointed in this book-it is not at all what I usually expect from Nicholas Sparks. It was dark and the inclusion of mental illness was a bit of a trigger for me. I am sure my library will purchase it, as he is always a popular author with our patrons, but I won't be able to recommend it. I do, however, appreciate the opportunity to read it.
Nicholas Sparks is the most magical author. I've loved his books for decades and Dreamland is another complete success. A must read!

This was my first Nicholas Sparks book I love all the movies but have never read any of the book however I will be reading them all now I loved this.
I always love getting lost in a Nicholas Sparks novel and his latest had me at hello! Dreamland has such a heartfelt storyline that had me feeling such an array of emotions. Centering around several main characters that I felt were so incredibly endearing! I initially didn’t know how some of the characters would be connected, but in true Nicholas Sparks fashion it was revealed at the absolute perfect time. In this crazy world we live in, this 5 star novel in like chicken soup for the soul! I highly recommend Dreamland to everyone and I am already looking forward to diving into the next Nicholas Sparks novel!
