A thoroughly wonderful romance that is perfect for any adult collection. I was completely invested in it from start to finish, and can see it circulating well!

My rating is closer to 3.5. I enjoy fast books, and I usually adore Kerrigan Byrne's writing but this one flew by and I ended up feeling a bit disappointed. Crying Wolfe is entirely focused on the characters; no side mystery or plot to zhuzh things up or distract from the budding relationship. That can be lovely, but it also puts a lot of stress on the characters to deliver. I really enjoyed Rosaline and Eli was amusing in his stereotypical "American West" gruffness. Out of the two, I was most drawn to Rosaline.

Byrne takes extraordinary care and thoughtfulness with mental illness in her writing. It lends an authenticity to her characters that some books miss out on and those tugged heart strings stay tangled long after you are done reading. This is certainly the case with me when thinking about Rosaline.

During times of stress, Rosaline has an irresistible urge to steal things. She manages it through complicated, OCD rituals but occasionally the urge is too much. This time, Rosaline is caught in the neighbor's observatory by the new owner, Elijah as she takes a small unimpressive bowl/vessel. Elijah is understandably pissed that someone stole something from him and gives chase, leaving the two to get caught in dishabille while Eli demands his item back.

Dear Eli, the grizzled American that has built his fortune with his own two tanned, calloused hands that are now nicknamed "Midas". With a bit of backstabbing and gold-digging individuals in his past, Eli has written off all types of love. He is crude, foul-mouthed, with a quick-temper. You know, your typical upstart American barging his way into high society.

Reading that, it's clear that I loved Rosaline and tolerated Eli in their own stories. So... what's the deal? Ultimately, I needed more depth from the romance and story. Rosaline was so young and naive, and while I loved the layers that were developed... I had a hard time with the insta-love/lust after a single kiss with Eli who was essentially a stranger at that point. After being convinced things will be okay after the forced nuptials, Eli ghosts her until the wedding day. Readers are left with a blank space between: "THIEF!!!" to "Oops, I swear this isn't what it looks like" to next day "Oh my, that was some kiss, everything is going to work out" "*crickets*" - Eli ghosting because he is an old man (mid to late 30s) disturbed by his intense physical reaction to his young intended and nobody has time for getting to know their future bride anyway. We have a bejeweled goblet to track down. Then the misunderstandings continue to mount.

For a novella length story, the development is on point because it is near impossible to get the rich, complicated characters I've come to expect from Byrne in 210 pages. And, truly, I enjoyed reading Eli and Rosaline's romance. It just didn't give me the big swoony feelings I look for in a romance. Kerrigan Byrne is still an auto-buy for me and I am eager to pick up the rest of the Goode Girls series!

I am familiar with this author and always enjoyed her books. This book was light and airy in many areas. This is also part of a series Goode Girls which focus on members of regency family. Rosaline Goode is a thief/kleptomaniac who enters the home of the next door neighbor to look thru the telescope. Unknowing to her the property has been sold to an American Eli Woofe - gruff rich mining tycoon. She enters his house and he believe she is a thief and chases her into her house room. Bing - - Compromised, quick marriage. I like how fresh this story seemed to me with Eli. He was rough but kind hearted. They have some ups and downs but I liked their sorry. It was a quick HEA. I did think it tidy up pretty quick and was looking for something more meatier in the story. It can be read as a stand alone which was a good read. It was a quick ready and while I haven't read the others in this storyline I will check them out.

Awesome, laugh out loud, fish out of water, historical romance at it's best! I couldn't put this book down! How can you describe Kerrigan Byrne's writing...She turns a phrase like no no other! This whole story was delicious from start to finish. There certainly are a lot of Goode girls to write about, lol. This is Rosaline Goode, Emmett's younger sister from the other family of their bigamist father. We find there are 7 siblings in all now. Emmett being the lone male.

Rosaline has been raised quite sheltered at the country estate. She is very close with her siblings, Emmaline being the oldest. Each has learned to protect the other. She struggles with stress induced kleptomania, Emmett with being gay and Emma is an unknown at this time. We meet Rosaline on the rooftop stealing into next door neighbor, Lady Verna Clarkwell's home to use the telescope in the observatory. Little does she know the she sold the house to American treasure hunter, and rich as Midas, Elijah Wolfe. He catches her after she raided his treasures taking a small appearing inconsequential bowl. He chases after her over the rooftops and they are discovered in her bedroom! He thinks she's a servant thief, not a sister to the Lord. The inevitable occurs and they are forced into marriage.

Elijah Wolfe is an American who struck it rich when his iron mine struck gold. Commander Carlton Morley was one of his investors and they became friends getting rich together. He and his original partners, brother Caleb and old friend Beau treasure hunted together while mining. They grew up together as orphan kids digging in the mines. Now he's seeking the Midas Chalice and Anatolian Sapphire that was stolen from him. Word has it Lady Clarkwell had the chalice in her collection and the sapphire was rumored in London up for auction.

As Elijah and Rosaline explore their chemistry and their relationship, secrets get shared as intimacy grows. Things get really intense as Elijah seeks his treasure and Rosaline's stress grows with their love for each other.

This is an interesting version of the opposites attract story. Rosaline and Elijah are two completely different people from two completely different worlds. He is a self-made man from America who made his fortune in mining and still carries the manners and attitude of the mining camps with him despite his prosperity. She was raised in English society, her father a recently disgraced and then deceased Baron. She is ruled by fear and anxiety as much as love and loyalty. He has never known love, little of loyalty, and never been allowed the luxury of fear.

Now, scandal has fallen upon them. To keep his business deals from falling apart and her brother's impending marriage from collapsing, these two strangers must marry. While the set-up is a little lacking, it does check all of the requisite boxes to get these two into an intimate relationship. From there, they must figure out how to move forward despite their differences.

The characters are compelling. Kerrigan Byrne is always masterful with this. As I read it, I was startled by how well these two characters that had nothing in common fit together. But I found the story development somewhat forced and stunted. It read more like a novella with action happening rapidly and little build-up. It's definitely not her best, but that says more about the quality of her other work than the quality of this one.

This is the fifth book of the Goode Girls series and my first experience reading something by Ms. Byrne. I was not disappointed! I had no trouble reading this as a standalone, but you can be sure I will be going back to read the books I missed. Being a lover of astronomy, Rosaline Goode sneaks into new neighbor, Elijah Wolfe's house for a chance to see the stars through his telescope. Things take an unexpected turn and she has no choice but to enter into a marriage of convenience when she is caught in a compromising position. Although their marriage is anything but a love match, they can't help the feelings and attraction that develops between them. Elijah is a gruff American who does not trust easily or let anyone into his heart. Rosaline wants nothing more than to have the same loving passionate connection that her siblings share with their spouses. Despite Elijah's crassness and broodiness, Rosaline doesn't give up on making her wish come true and he can't deny the feelings she stirs within him. Although a quick read, this book was captivating with so much emotion and pulled me in from the start. Both characters were well-developed and I immediately became engrossed in their story.
Really enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more by this author.

Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) provided by the Author and Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Love this story of two totally opposite people who are thrown together and forced to wed. Watching them get to know each other is so fun. Kerrigan Byrne has written some of the most vivid characters in Historical-Romance. Elijah Wolfe is rude, crude, gruff and enigmatic. He is certainly a worthy Byrne character. Rosaline Goode has her hands full with her wealthy American. Gentle and soft spoken she needs to grow a pair fast to be a match for her new husband.

American Elijah Wolfe is the owner of the gold mine that made Sir Carlton Morley wealthy. He is now in England again and his goal is to make more money. Rosaline, the Goode sister's unknown half-sister is a sheltered thing, with a secret obsession that has gotten her and Elijah in a passel of trouble.

Crying Wolfe is the next in the Goode girls series. In the last book, the Goode girls discovered that their father had two families. This is the first book featuring one of the siblings from the second family, Rosaline.

Rosaline has a tic that is compulsive stealing from her time locked up with their evil uncle. She's viewed as delicate and damaged by the other Goode family members. When she steals from the new neighbor, American, Eli Wolfe, and is found in a compromising position in her bedroom with him, they are forced into a marriage of convenience.

Eli is pretty rough and tumble and very uncouth compared to Rosaline but their instant attraction soon turns to love after marriage.

I loved that this was a novella. As far as novella's go, this had a lot of plot but it went so quickly that I read it in one sitting. I didn't love any of the dialogue that came out of Eli's mouth, I kept picturing him as white trash. I did love his character and actually tried to ignore some of the stuff he said. I thought he was perfect for Rosaline and it was kind of fun to see them together. I also loved that Rosaline was fierce despite her history.

American Elijah Wolfe with his Midas touch Strikes it rich when he finds a gold mine. He’s just as ruthless and aggressive as his name suggests as he heads to England to retrieve a stolen priceless treasure and will ruin anyone in his way. Rosaline Goode sneaks into the neighbor’s house to use a telescope to star gaze, but she’s in for a surprise.
What’s a man to do when he see a young woman sneaking into his home. He discovers the delectable nearly naked Rosaline Goode in his home, his soon realizes she’s his good friend and neighbor’s sister-in-law. Elijah and Rosaline finds themselves in a compromising situation and forced to marry. These two are all ice and fire, I love their witty banter and fiery personalities. I have voluntarily read and reviewed the excellent book.

✨Foul-Mouthed American with a Southern accent meets proper British lady in a marriage of convenience? SAY LESS!✨

I loved this book so much! From the beginning, Rosaline and Elijah’s story drew me in. Rosaline’s “secret,” while not something I have personal experience with, was still understandable and made for a very interesting conflict.

I really enjoyed the little cameos by a few of the other characters we have come to know through the Victorian Rebels and Goode Sisters series. It made me want to reread The Victorian Rebel series! 😍

The chemistry between Rosaline and Elijah was palpable and the spice… Kerrigan does spice very well. 🤌🏻🔥

And CAN WE TALK ABOUT ELIJAH BEING A FOUL-MOUTHED AMERICAN WITH A SOUTHERN ACCENT?!?! I loved that sooooo much. Elijah was the perfect counterbalance to Rosaline’s British propriety and vice versa.

I also loved that Rosaline was able to use her “secret” to help Elijah in the end. It was a very nice touch and the entire ball/masquerade/auction was intriguing and had me on the edge of my seat!

I’m so very glad I read this and now I need to finish the rest of the books in this series that I haven’t read and reread the Victorian Rebels series. 🥰

Let me say this first- I LOVE Ms. Kerrigan’s books, but this one was difficult to finish. The language used by Wolfe so so offensive, I found it hard to read. I am not a prude and grew up in a house with swearing, but this was too much for me. I get that the author was trying to portray Wolfe as being a hard, crusty man, but I was forced to skim over much of his conversations because the language was so filthy. That being said, I loved the way the author portrayed Rosaline’s issue and hearing the full story made me very angry at her uncle. The sex scenes were VERY hot, so be aware of that. I would suggest to the author to tone down the language, other than that a very solid and endearing storyline.

These are my views alone after receiving this ARC copy for free.

4.5 stars. I’m not even sure what to say about this book. I truly enjoyed it this novella length addition to the Goode Girls series. I have not read all of this series or in order so there maybe be some things I missed but it hardly took away my enjoyment of this book. What sealed it for me was the ending when our hero finally realizes he truly cares for and loves his wife after this marriage of convenience.

“Rosaline. My little wife. My greatest treasure.” He pulled her close, burying his face in her hair, cupping her head gently as she rested her cheek on his shoulder and finally allowed her tears to flow. “Forgive me, honey, for being like them. Like every person who was supposed to love you, and instead made you feel small and afraid. It was their job to protect you, not turn your sanctuary into a place where you had no safe space to be yourself. No control over who you were or what happened to you. Nothing but censure and perverse expectations.” He pulled back enough to gaze down at her, and what she read in his eyes made the tears fall even harder.”

“We’re all broken, Rosaline,” he said, his rough features softened with compassion.”

“But you’re my wife. I took a vow to honor and protect you. To cherish you…and that means I got to try to listen. To understand you. And if I don’t understand, to do my best to help you in any way I can.”

**swoon**
This is what marriage is all about. Acceptance and unconditional love. Do yourself a favor and pink this one up immediately!

What a Magnificent story! It is the fifth book in the "A Goode Girl Romance". It brings the characters who found a place in your heart back and you get to catch up with them. Crying Wolfe unfolds beautifully and will hold you spellbound from the moment you begin the journey with Rosaline and Elijah until the very end! The characters are well thought out, tension-building twist, full of strong emotions as each one comes across clearly as their individual personalities become more than just part of the tale they become embedded in your heart. Both Rosaline and Elijah have emotional scars from their past and monsters within them they try to overcome. As they are found in a compromising situations they find themselves married and the sparks fly as their passions ignite. Kerrigan Byrne has written a story with heartfelt dialogue and with a strong plot that bring this read together perfectly!

I received a copy of this romance through BrookSprout and this is my honest and voluntary review

This series has been really great and this story just tops it off!

With enduring the shame of her father, Rosaline Goode tries to stay away from society and spend her time visiting her neighbor's house to look at the stars. Unfortunately she is caught by the new owner and things go from bad to worse...

Elijah Wolfe is a take no prisoners kind of American. Having lived through his own terrible past, scraping for everything he earned, he could not believe this young petite woman had invaded his house and taken something from him.

A compromised position, a quick wedding and a bumpy, but passionate road to happiness might just be found!

Goode girl gone bad...

Just a little bit. Rosaline Goode takes on the big bad Wolfe, Elijah Wolfe, the brash American looking for his treasure. He just may find both in Rosaline Goode.

I am enjoying the Goode Girls and this one delivers what I come to expect in a Kerrigan Bryne book.
Recommend.

I love this story so much! Kerrigan Byrne is definitely one of my favorites romance writers.
Elijah Wolfe came to England searching for a priceless treasure once stolen from him and is prepared to ruin anyone who gets in his way. Rosaline Goode spends her nights avoiding society and mapping the stars. That is until absurd circumstances find her, nearly naked, in his home.
Succumbing to a shotgun wedding is the worst thing Eli can imagine, but if it is what he must do to get what he wants, then so be it. Except now, all the arguments he’d made against the marriage are becoming enticements. His new wife is too young. Too small, sheltered, soft, and sensitive for a man forged in the mines and tempered in the desert heat. If theirs is a Devil’s bargain, then why does her shy touch take him to heaven?
This is a beautiful love story full of sweet and emotional moments. They are really hot together, but mostly adorable. Eli is so sweet and tender with her, so in touch with her feelings, that it broke my heart a little. I adored the way she blossoms under his watch. There are so much better together than as individuals. Both suffered a lot in hands of their family and have trust issues. But seeing them overcome that it was just beautiful.
All this series is a must. I’m super fan of Honoria and Felicity but this one is really good too. I highly recommend it!

I love a big, rough, dirty talking hero and a quiet heroine. They are very opposite personalities who are forced to get married and their relationship dynamic is excellent. This is #5 in a series of interconnected stand-alones. I would definitely recommend this book!!

This was an entertaining, well-written book. It was fun, fast paced and held my interest. I wanted to find out what would happen next. This book can be read as a standalone story, though it is #5 in the A Goode Girls Romance series. I enjoyed this book and will look for other books in this series as well as any books written by this author.

Rosaline is a young, gentle hearted English woman raised in a difficult family situation with abuse. She has a stress relieving habit of “stealing artifacts”.
Elijah is an older rough tough American who chases Rosaline across rooftops, has a closed cold heart, and ends up compromising her, forcing them into marriage.
Rosaline likes being protected by this big guy but they have some issues to work through including their emotions, family baggage, and her ability to steal anything.
I enjoyed this story, heartbroken over some of the family issues. Intertwined are characters from some of the author’s other novels which makes it fun to read.

I received an ARC but the honest opinion is my own.

Kerrigan Byrne is always an auto-buy for me, her stories are a little darker than most historical romances, but the men are always so soft and gooey inside that by the time the heroine has cracked open the hard, rugged, damaged shell, I have already fallen in love with them. Crying Wolfe, book 5 in the Goode Girls series, is no exception. Elijah Wolfe, an American with a bit of a potty mouth, meets Miss Rosaline ‘meek and mild’ Goode one night in unusual circumstances, has come to England searching for something that was once stolen from him. Unfortunately for Elijah, he ends up having to marrying Rosaline after unintentionally compromising her.

I loved both the characters in this book, Elijah, being American, was really interesting to read about – he swears too much and is quite the ‘grumpy man’ to Rosaline’s ‘sunshine lady’ but they complement each other very well. I think Rosaline really likes the way that Elijah doesn’t hold back from what he is feeling and is just honest and open with her. The Goode siblings have lived a life of tyranny and are subdued because of it each sporting their own battle wounds. I liked the difficult conversations between Rosaline and her brother – who I’m really hoping is going to get his own book – and the way they deal with each-others mental health – namely her kleptomania - and know what support the other needs straight away.

Old favourites from this series, as well as Victorian Rebels series, make an appearance which is always really fun as it’s nice to see how they are now living their lives after they got their happily ever after. Dorian Blackwell will always be one of my favourite characters ever, so to see him turn up is always a bonus.

There are quite a few of my favourite tropes in this book – age gap, shot gun wedding – but one of my favourite things about the book was how sweet and kind gruff Elijah was with Rosaline, and her kittens who she’d kept hidden from everyone. My only wish was that the book had been longer as it was over far too quickly but overall it was a 5/5 for me and even though you could read it as a standalone, I would always suggest reading the others first as they are all brilliant!
