Another exciting installment of the Goode Girls series! I read this story in less than a day. Many characters from the previous books are mentioned. Carlton Morley is friends with Elijah Wolfe so he plays a fairly large role in this book. Dorian Blackwell of "The Highwayman" also makes an amusing cameo. You don't need to read the earlier books to appreciate this one, but why wouldn't you want to? Seriously, the Victorian Rebels series is excellent and it flows right into the Goode Girls series.
The plot of this book is very straightforward. Elijah is a worldly 35 year old man and Rosaline is only 21. They are caught in what appears to be a compromising situation and they are forced to wed. On the surface, this sounds like a formula for disaster, but Kerrigan Byrne makes it work. This story is super steamy and the characters are very likable.
I received a complimentary ARC from NetGalley and this is my honest review.

from the start of the story we dropped into the adventure and action that results in Rosaline and Wolfe not only meeting but suddenly finding themselves heading for the alter. while this is part of a series and prior individuals from this and related series make appearances, the author focuses primarily on the on this couple as they get to know each other and fall in love. neither character had particular easy or happy childhoods and are left with scars (while some are visible most are hidden behind fears and eccentricities) that the other, it turns out, may be able to heal. On the surface, these two seem to be very mix matched. but as this sweet and sexy story shows, sometimes mixed matched may well fit together to make a perfect pair. a delightful read that is nicely paced, includes humor, action, passion and compassion.

I'm a big fan of this author. She writes incredibly rich, compelling characters that dive into a passionate romance that takes your breath away. Unfortunately, these characters missed the mark. Their personalities and physiology so distinct that it made it difficult for me to see them together. felt the hero was too aggressive in his pursuit especially because she appeared so delicate and innocent. I prefer my heroines with more spunk and grit. A disappointing read.

Whilst Elijah Wolfe may be ruthless, having been born in the harsh Nevada desert, he realises that he is facing a battle when he meets Rosaline Goode and must marry her. Rosaline spends her nights avoiding society and mapping the stars, only to land up in the lap of Elijah, and realising that marriage may not be as difficult as she once thought.

Even though Elijah and Rosaline could not two more different personalities, together they just work! Despite their age difference, Rosaline brings out a gentleness in Eli whilst he gives her greater confidence in herself. Their devotion to each other made me believe that anything was possible in this storyline. I also liked reading about Rosaline's sisters who give a greater depth to this story.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op. All thoughts and opinion are my own.

While I have enjoyed other books in this series, this one was a bit meh to me. The insta-love a little too convenient (even for historical romances) and Eli's anger with Rosaline too harsh. The story felt very quick. A little more depth to the story would make a huge difference. It's not the worst book I've read, but I haven't retained much of the story. It was nice to visit briefly with characters from the previous books in the series.

The story starts with the thrill of sneaking to a forbidden place, then I laughed at how adorable the heroine is. The story did turn steamy and followed by conflict that threatened their relationship. In the end, nothing comes between two hearts meant to be one. Excellent read.

I received an .ARC of this book and leaving a review voluntarily.

Crying Wolfe was my reintroduction into to this authors work. I had read most of the Highwayman series but had yet to start the Goode Girls series. Well this book made me want to catch up on the other books in the series. I loved this read.

Rosaline Goode is one of the siblings that was hidden away from the rest of the family. When sneaking into a home on the family property to use a telescope she sees from the window she meet Eli who thinks she a their coming into his new home. Eli who made his fortune in the mining industry in the west coast of America and the head in the stars Goode sister find themselves compromised and forced into a marriage of convenience. All hope isn’t lost because these find themselves not only attracted to each other but also drawn to one another. But secrets of the past have away of coming out and affecting what was becoming a happy relationship.

Highlights for me Rosaline and Eli. As individuals and together they just where two fun characters to read about. Eli and his non proper/American ways trying to hide his attracting to Rosaline. For Rosaline herself while she appears filled with innocents it was good to see her stand up for herself and go for the things she wants. Their connection as well was just for lack of a better word fire. They may have been opposites on paper but how they cared, protected, and love each other was so enjoyable to read. Also their first meeting was a fun scene. I also really am looking forward to Emmeline’s book after reading this. She made a short appearance in this one but really liked her in the short scene of her. This was a book I was left wanting more after I finished.

The story is a marriage of continence and age gap tropes.

Crying Wolfe was book 5 in the Goode Girls series. While it can be read as a standalone, which I did I recommend you read the others in the series before this one. All Kerrigan’s book are in the same world. There are enough references to the other books that may confuse someone jumping right in.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for this arc.

I really enjoyed the 5th book in the Goode Girls series, I have recently read Kerrigan Byrne's Highwayman series and feel in love with every story and all of the characters, so it was really a treat seeing some of my favorite characters from that series make an appearance in Rosline and Elijah's story. Rosline and Elijah Wolfe were adorable and I really loved that they came to care for each other despite their marriage being one on convenience. I really couldn't have consumed this book fast enough and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

This was a different story but most enjoyable! Rosaline is the youngest of a very interesting family. Her father had two wives but her family was the legitimate one. Rosaline loves the stars and the mythology that comes with it. One night she chances across the roof to her neighbor’s observatory to catch a meteor shower. She thinks the house is inhabited by an older woman who never leaves her room. Imagine her surprise when a brawny, crude American interrupts her stargazing. Thus begins the story of Rosaline and Eli Wolfe. A delightful read.

Well, hmm. I’ve Ed cream every Kerrigan Byrne book and her earlier books are full of complex & fully developed characters, steamy love scenes, AND suspenseful intriguing plots but the most recent books are not like that. Truly it feels like the Goode Girls series is written by a completely different person, they are so shallow in character development (there is no character development) & nonsensical plots (there isn’t much ploy until the very end when a bit of intrigue is dude Lu introduced & then dealt with in the last 15 pages or so. This book was ok but nothing really happened, there wasn’t really a plot it’s mostly just two single people who meet & must marry immediately but it’s ok because they are both outrageously attracted to each other. Then most of the rest of the book is them having sex or thinking about sex. The attempt at character or relationship development seems to be just each character eventually info dumping their personal angst & motivations to each other in several pages of monologuing.

I don’t know what happened to the Byrne who wrote the Victorian Rebels series but I miss her. The Goode series has do much potential but keeps being just short books featuring two underdeveloped people who really want to bang each other & then they do so that means they’re in love now.

Thank you to the publisher so much for this but sadly it wasn't for me.
______
Umm, Kerrigan Byrne, is this you??

This was such a disappointment from her. She usually writes complex people, nuance, makes you think and feel. This was not that. This was surface level, unsatisfying, and I couldn't be bothered with the wedding night.

Rosaline is a "fragile" simpering miss (not her usual heroine by far, so it was jarring to read) that becomes a kleptomaniac under duress (this "monster" inside her, spare me). Eli is a caricature of a rough American, what I imagine was the outlandish nightmare of American crudeness of 1800's England.

This could have been good, regardless of length, I know this could have been better. Maybe she gets tired of writing complex people and needs to scratch a quick itch with this, which is fine, but this series will not be for me.

I really enjoyed this one! I had recently read "Highwayman", so I really seeing Dorian in a cameo role here. I LOVED the smart and sassy Rosaline! Her nighttime adventure culminates in an unexpected engagement, and I LOVED how primal and possessive Eli was of her. It was fun seeing an American hero paired off with a British heroine. Their story is witty and action-packed and passionate. Thank you, Netgalley, for my arc. Keep 'em coming, Kerrigan!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Crying Wolfe is everything I expect from a Kerrigan Byrne novel. All the Victorian Rebels and Goode Girls books are captivating, angsty, passionate romances. I fell in love with the author’s writing style and prose in The Highwayman. These hauntingly broken, sensual characters take my breath away every time.

Elijah Wolfe is a rough, gruff, ruthless American businessman. Hone in the black pits of the Nevada mines, Elijah has amassed an unfathomable fortune. Yet Elijah is restless and distrustful. He cannot navigate the delicate, obnoxious social circles of the English elite. Brought to London on the quest for a stolen treasure, the last thing he wants is a proper, fragile, English wife. But that is what he is saddled with. I love a gritty, brutal, ruthless American hero, and Elijah is the epitome. Elijah has been torn apart by betrayal. I loved everything about Elijah Wolfe; he is my new favorite book boyfriend!

Rosaline is fragile, timid, and broken. She, too, has demons who haunt her from the past. I adored how Elijah brings out Rosaline’s strength, and with his help, she learns how to slay those demons. Rosaline’s psychological scars gutted me. I viscerally felt her frustration and pain. Unbelievably, Rosaline was everything Elijah’s soul needed but refused to acknowledge.

The physical, sensual connection between Elijah and Rosalind was off-the-charts pure fire! The way the couple’s emotions evolved was effortlessly described and executed. Elijah and Rosaline’s journey is messy and ugly at times, but their passionate, loving link is undeniable.

Crying Wolfe is the fifth book in the Goode Girls series, a continuance of the Victorian Rebels series. I have read every book in both series and have been blown away by the consistent excellence in the plots, characters, and writing. These books are always a must-buy. Kerrigan Byrne has the uncanny ability to produce an excellent quality romance that is heart-wrenchingly beautiful. Haunting and tragic, this book brings out the raw humanity in each character and drives the reader to devour the book to find that all-encompassing happily-ever-after. Crying Wolfe is historical romance at its best.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book through the Netgalley and the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Eli was an unusual hero, a character out of the “Wild West” dropped in Victorian England. I enjoyed his “rules about women” section. Lots of cursing, I imagine some readers might be out off by that.

Oh boy! I was so excited to be back with the Goode Girls! This time with young, kleptomaniac Rosaline Goode, 1 of 3 siblings who were kept hidden from the rest of the family, and Eli Wolfe, a rough and larger-than-life American mining Tycoon.

This story has a marriage of convenience, an age gap, American/British relationship, a litter of kittens and a telescope and buckets of chemistry to spare. The book hit the ground running and never stopped.

When Eli catches Rosaline sneaking into his new home, he follows her back through her attic window, only to discover the little scamp is the sister-in-law of his friend Carlton Morley and he has ruined her reputation in one fell swoop. Since the Goode family can't handle any more scandal, Morley convinces 36-year old Eli to marry 21-year old Rosaline in a "name only" arrangement.

What Eli doesn't count on is his little slip of a bride doesn't want a lonely life. She wants a connection like her siblings have with their husbands and boldly challenges him to make it a true marriage. But can a man with no room for trust left in his ragged heart, open it to this stranger in his bed?

I had the best time with this. Eli was crass and honest and... hunky. Rosaline was shy but determined to make something good on the mistakes of her past. In the hopes that they can build something new and lasting. I read this all in one sitting and I only wish I could have had 100 more pages.

5 Stars
3.5 on the spice scale

Rosaline and Eli are so different from each other that it can be surprising how well they get along. I love how they met. Right away, you can tell Eli is a rough around the edges and gruff American with a brutal honesty that was actually endearing. Rosaline is incredibly sheltered and wants to be lost in the stars but when the two come together sparks are flying. I freaking loved them together. The understanding and acceptance throughout this book was wonderful. They both have their baggage and pasts to work through but they work through together one step at a time, with their ups and downs. Ending was super sweet as well.

I strongly recommend to avoid spoilers to read at least Dancing with Danger and Tempting Fate. Man, the Goode family has been through A LOT. We get a taste of the other two siblings, Emmaline and Emmett and I can’t wait for their stories.

I really enjoyed this unusual take on the genre. The hero and heroine seem so incompatible at first, as they are polar opposites in every way, yet as the story progresses they seem perfect for one another. I loved how the heroine was so intelligent and interested in astronomy and the hero was so unlike the usual titled Englishman. I haven’t read the rest of the series yet, but now really want to!

Everything I wanted in a continuation of the Goode family story is here. The hero is perfectly lovable and the heroine is amazingly adorable. I love all of Kerrigan Byrne’s stories and I am here for them all. I cannot wait to read more hopefully as soon as possible.

I'm a big fan of Byrne's writing, and this was a joy to read. (There was a part near the end that was very stressful and less enjoyable for me, but oh well. On the whole it made me happy). Out of the entire Victorian Rebels/Goode Girls series, this is probably my 6th or 7th favorite, which sounds down quite a ways, but there is some very steep competition, so I consider this ranking a notable achievement. I wasn't sure a roughneck American could compete with her other heroes (I mean, he was never even imprisoned!?! lol), but Bryne did good work with him. I liked both main characters, and it was nice to see some cameos from a few of her previous characters as well.

Breathtakingly beautiful!
The Goode saga continues! Rosalyn Goode has a little secret, a shame that cannot be revealed. And a penchant for watching the stars. One night both things lead her to ruin when she’s caught in her bedroom with a ruggedly handsome American. How can she marry such a rude man? How can she fall in love with him when she’s so broken?
Elijah Wolfe is a self-made man. He’s rich, he’s unrefined, he doesn’t trust anyone because everyone is after his money… And he definitely can’t marry a delicate, young English woman who threatens to upend his entire world!
This book had everything I could have wished for, but I should have known it, because Kerrigan Byrne has never let me down! So here I found a good dose of fun, especially at the beginning, with the stark contrast between the American ways and the English ones. I loved Elijah’s filthy mouth and his POV is often hilarious. But I also found all the emotions I was expecting from a Byrne’s book: desire, passion, angst, heartbreaking love. And the chemistry between the hulking American and the diminutive English girl is off the charts! I particularly loved a “naughty” scene at the end… In other words, this was a perfect little jewel.
