When the rain stops, a young child explores what nature has left behind in this book about numbers.
I selected this book because I found the cover and blurb very attractive. The layout and artwork were very professional, as was the grammar and editing.
The author does a nice job of counting things found in nature, with beautiful illustrations to help the reader understand. However, I was a little disappointed in the layout. Every time I turned a page, the numbers were on the left-facing page while the illustrations were one the right. I would have liked to have seen more variety, with numbers on alternating pages and perhaps some two-page images with the words on the top or bottom.
This book was also a straight counting book with no story to hold everything together. While a child is featured in some of the images, no characters are mentioned.
Overall, I found this to be a cute story excellent for young readers.
My thanks to the author and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* very cute spring kids book, the artwork is adorable and this would be great to read before a fun walk after it rains!
After It Rains is a brilliant children's counting book. Counting 1 - 10 with things that you may see when it rains. Bright and colourful and really sweet. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book.
A very simple 1-10 counting book celebrating the natural world. The art is colorful and slightly stylized/abstract. Kids can enjoy counting animals and plants that emerge after the rain. This is worth trying with toddlers and pre-K kids to reinforce counting skills in a new context.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
Love the artwork. I would have liked it more if the story had more rhythm to the words, but a good, basic counting book.
This is an adorable counting book and would be great for storytimes. I also think it would be great for kids starting out reading on their own.
This was such a cute book talking about what happened after it rains while also teaching numbers 1-10! Each page features a number from 1-2 with helps children with recognition and it's fine in a cute and entertaining way. My three year old loved this and wanted to read it more than once! This is a cute book I would buy and recommend to others.
Thank you Nimbus Publishing for a digital copy of this book! This book is due for publication 4/30/22!

Joanne Schwarz's book 'After it Rains' is a colorful, engaging picture book. Young children practice number words, experience natural events, and can relate to the children stomping in the rain puddles. This is a beautiful little book.
This sweet counting book will delight little ones and the colourful simple illustrations are perfect for the age group targeted. Numbers from 1-10 are featured and enriched by sights and activities that take place after a rainfall.
Featured in board book format "After It Rains: A Counting Book" is perfect for little hands to manoeuver and to read again and again. Angela Doak's collage-style artwork, made with bits of recycled paper and foil wrappers, gives the illustrations interesting layers of colour and texture. This would be a fun book to share and talk about all the things you can enjoy after it rains making the book interactive too! I highly recommend it.
A beautifully illustrated counting book for your earliest book lovers! Perfect for storytime and bedtime with readers ages birth - four. Bright pictures with easily counted objects and lovely text to go along with it. A perfect gift for a new baby.
This book will definitely be used in my toddler classroom. It’s the perfect counting book for the season. We are currently teaching the children about spring and what happens during this season. This book gives us examples, like all the rain we get and rainbows. I enjoyed how it describes which animals and insects we will start to see more in spring. This will help the children grasp the differences in seasons.
This will definitely become our go to counting book during the next couple months of spring.
This is a good counting book for spring, and I especially enjoyed the illustrations. I’d borrow it from the library but not one I’d pick to add to our bookshelf.
After it rains (illustrated in the spring or summer...)
This charming book counts up to ten using things to see and do after it rains in these wonderful seasons when the grass is green, and bright living things are everywhere.
The illustrations are simple and delightful, so reading this over and over with a child will be fun for the adult as well as the child--sparking memories and suggesting future activities!
I recommend this book for all ages.

This beautiful board-book, also a counting picture book, gives young children an opportunity to practice counting while exploring the beautiful nature after a rainstorm. The beautiful collage-style images will inspire young audiences to explore their own environment to look for their own surprises. I would recommend this book to parents and preschool teachers of children in 2-5 age range. I could see this being a nice introduction to counting and reading concepts and see as most likely a shared reading experience, such as a bedtime story or class read aloud. I so appreciate Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this sweet book.
