I did not feel that this book was well executed. The drama was severely delayed and the characters were dry. I was disappointed.

When the main character Lowri returns to her deceased aunt's home in Wales, she is expecting to settle her aunt's affairs. What happens begins a nightmare that leads to the disappearance of her daughters and the discovery of long lost secrets and murders. I couldn't put stop reading this, the book kept me totally engaged. I plan to read the authors previous novel and will highly recommend this one.

I would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. I will say, the first quarter of this book started off a bit slow, but once it picked up, I couldn’t put it down and finished it in one day. When Lowri goes back to the remote island of Anglesey, Wales to bury her aunt, things go from bad to worse. Her daughter goes missing and she suspects everyone she knows. Combining stories from the present, and the past, they intertwine into a final climax. I now want to go back and read her first book.

This was such a tense and atmospheric read. Well written with a compelling storyline and well developed characters. This was gripping right from the first page and I could put it down, twisty and unpredictable.

The Last House on the Cliff earns a solid 4 stars. Apart from the fact I'm not sure how the title relates to the story, I was on the edge if my seat throughout reading this book.

When Louri returns to Wales with her daughter, Ruby after her Auntie Gwen passes away she gets a lot more than she bargains for. Strange things are happening, someone appears to be watching Ruby until Ruby disappears!!!

What happens next beggars belief!!!

The story and the characters are very believable, I found myself reaching for the tissues on many occasions. Definitely a book to add to your reading list.

Creepy, wierd and full of twists! What more could you want from a thriller? I really liked this book, although it did take a while to get going for me, once it did I couldn't put it down. I was desperate to find everything out! Reminded me of flowers in the attic. A great read and one that I would recommend.

This was a wonderful and captivating read. I loved how the story unfolded with so many twists and turns and family secrets you could never imagine. Heart wrenching and heart breaking at times. It was utterly compelling and a real page turner. The twist at the end was quite a shock.

This is perfect for fans of Riley Sager and Diane Setterfield. I gobbled it up in two sittings, quickly turning pages to see what would happen next. The windswept, desolate setting, cold, gloomy manor house and dark characters created the perfect stormy day read. It was slow going for the first half of the book but when it picked up, it flew by. While I figured out one of the twists, the rest caught me completely out of left field. The character development was well worth the build up. And did I mention the twists? Oh my goodness!

Thank you Netgalley and HarperCollins UK for this ARC!

I was expecting something a bit creepier/more gothic based on the blurb and the setting, but it was more in the crime/psychological thriller genre. I thought it was a decent thriller though, if a bit bizarre and unbelievable towards the end. The exploration of familial relationships was interesting, however, and the descriptions of the house were really vivid.

Rounding up to three stars

I have a certain fondness for books set in places I know, and that's why I picked this one up.
That said, I'd never heard of the villages mentioned.
For me it lacked something, possible depth, I felt I was just skimming the story rather than getting it in detail.
It was mostly predictable too.
Sadly I can't rate it any higher.

Thank you Netgalley and Avon Books UK for this ARC of The Last House on the Cliff by Anne Wyn Clark.

I will just leave this one short as I really don't like giving negative reviews. I found this one lacking in too many ways. For one, I didn't feel the emotion that I should feel about a mother whose child is missing in any way. For two, the police work was just a little too unbelievably lazy. They are supposedly searching for days but as soon as the best friend comes to town, they find a clue within an hour? I give this two separate because the concept and overall story was good, the delivery just wasn't.

I enjoyed this book but found it a little bit confusing in places at times with back and forth but not a bad storyline…

This book is so well thought out, so fantastically structured with never ending anxiety leading me away from my every day life of The Last House on the Cliff.

Anne Wyn Clark well-plots her books with the perfect intrigue and surprise elements that are sure to leave you anxious and tense.
The plot is well constructed and connects cleverly. There are moments of tension and suspense with some unexpected twists and shocking discoveries.
The characterisation is an especially good feature of the book.
The characters were so realistic.
The story is so easy to keep up with and flows so well! I absolutely loved how the story came together, I loved the chills it gave me, especially reading it in the dark!

If you like gripping novels, thrillers, mysteries, then this is a novel for you!

This is the first book I have read by this author. I had a hard time following the plot line. It got very confusing

Lowri returns to a remote Welsh island after the death of her aunt Gwyn, bringing her daughter Ruby. Lowri and her daughter are still grieving after the death of Lowri’s husband, and she hopes the island will work its old magic on herself and her daughter. At first, it seems to be working, but then Ruby starts talking about an old woman who visits her when no one else is around. Lowri believes this might be the result of Ruby’s grief, but when the girl disappears, she’s forced to reexamine everything she thought she knew about her family and their past. A great Gothic read that put me in mind of Mary Stewart

I loved this book! Super suspenseful- had me turning pages late through the night because I could not put it down until I had worked out all the twists. I can't wait to read more books from this author. Five stars

Awesome.
Lowri returns once more to Gwyn’s home on the remote island of Anglesey, Wales, with young daughter Ruby in tow. Lowri hadn’t seen her aunt in years, but this beautiful island offers a fresh start. Yet right away, strange things begin to happen. Ruby insists an old woman is visiting her when no one else is watching, and a tattered old doll keeps being left for Ruby to find. Then Ruby goes missing. Desperately seeking answers no one seems to have, Lowri looks to her dark family past for clues. But the secrets she uncovers suggest that Ruby is not the only one in danger, and time is running out – for both of them…
I loved reading this book. So tense.
