I love the thought of baking and making bread. But putting that into action is a bit daunting for a novice. This book however helps ease a new baker in and with its recipes give confidence that you can actually achieve a good outcome.
Easy Homemade Bread: 150 Recipes for the Beginning Baker starts in with a good introduction, including a pictoral series on how to knead bread dough. With explanations on ingredients and equipment, beginning bakers will be happy to have this cookbook as a reference point.
The cookbook is separated into logical recipe sections, such as:
Classic Breads
No-Knead Breads
Sourdough Breads
Buns & Rolls
Quick Breads
Flatbreads & Crackers
Muffins & Scones
Biscuits & Cornbread
Boiled Breads
Doughnuts & Other Fried Breads
Gluten-Free Breads
I was surprised not to find Rye Bread or Challah, as they are both pretty popular breads. Though Challah can be a bit challenging because of the braiding, there is an Onion Braided Loaf in the cookbook. There are a lot of sweet breads here, so those looking for more savory loaves might give this cookbook a pass. Most of the recipes have accompanying photographs, which I appreciate.
The biggest downside to the cookbook has to do with the posted cooking times. Many of the recipes are off and this can be a big issue for first time bakers. More experienced bakers know to "thump the loaf" of a classic bread, or look for other signs of doneness. Overall, Easy Homemade Bread is a good collection of recipes, though not many are all that original or unique.
Disclaimer: I was given an Advanced Reader's Copy of Easy Homemade Bread by NetGalley and the publisher. The decision to read and review this cookbook was entirely my own.
A lovely book for someone who likes to bake without a hassle with clear and easy to follow instructions. All ingredients are easy to find. Illustrations are very nice.
If you’re like me and became an obsessed bread baker during the Pandemic, then this book is right up your bread baking alley. There are so many easy bread recipes to choose from, especially if you are new to bread baking and feel overwhelmed by the lengthy baking recipes out there!
A great book to have on hand! I love baking and this book helps a lot with bread baking. Bread has always been intimidating to me to make and the recipes in this book a fabulous.
Essential book for budding bakers!! This has loads of tips and recipes to make the art of bread making easy and enjoyable.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for letting me read an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest feedback.
Perfect for beginner and experienced bakers alike. This book contains 150 recipes for different types of my favourite guilty pleasure ever: bread! Easy to follow recipes, and a wide range from simple to more complex flavours. Gluten-free is a nice option to have, as lots of gluten-free alternatives are not always one-to-one. Not only does it have recipes, but it also dives into the basic techniques every baker should know.
This book will give you confidence to bake without worrying about the outcome.
I come from a long line of bread makers. It’s in my blood. My grandfather owned a successful bakery in Canada where I was born. Growing up, bread was always a mainstay in our pantry. In fact, I never ate store bought bread until I moved to the US.
But curiously enough, over the years I never tried to bake my own bread. Until now!
Once I saw this book I knew my time had come! Here was an opportunity to reach down to my roots and make my family heritage proud!
And did it work? Were my loaves edible?
Drum roll please…🥁🥁🥁
Yes! Absolutely! And a very satisfying accomplishment. The bread was outstanding and I know my family would have been proud😢
This book is a carb lovers’ dream! Every imaginable recipe is included here! From basic white bread (which was my first attempted bake and one of the most labor intensive) to focaccia, pita, bagels, pretzels, cinnamon rolls, and corn bread! And so many more I can’t list them all. Something delicious for every taste.
The recipes themselves were rather basic - almost too much so. Being a greenhorn when it comes to baking bread I would have liked just a bit more detail in the directions. If you’re an experienced bread baker you’ll be able to breeze right through the directions.
Now that my digital ARC has expired I will be purchasing this book as I am now an official dough aficionado! 🏻🍳🍞

The Introduction covers the flour, oils, and fats used in baking, then moves onto equipment tips and tricks and how to knead the dough. However, the equipment section only covers what is needed when preparing the breads but not what you will need for the oven such as a baking stone, loaf pans, mixing bowls.
The recipes are only in imperial measurements (use of cups) and the oven temperatures are in Fahrenheit only too, but at the rear of the book there are conversion charts. The instructions are well laid out in numbered steps. Not all recipes come with a colour photograph.
There is a mixture of savoury and sweet breads throughout this book, alongside pizza doughs, various muffins, Yorkshire pudding, naan bread, scones but not the English way I've been taught and more.
Overall it's an interesting book about more than just bread, it's baking with flour making dough-type mixtures. I see bread as something made with yeast really rather than muffins or Yorkshire puddings.
I received this book from Netgalley in return for an honest review.
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* This is a great beginner book with all sorts of basic but i'm sure delicious recipes! would buy this for sure!
This is a great starting book for baking breads. The recipes are easy to follow and they explain everything well. The pictures are great and perfect to go along with the recipes.
I’ve only made one recipe so far and it turned out perfectly. I would recommend this for any beginner bread maker!
Easy Homemade Bread had 150 recipes for me a beginner. It starts with bread basics. Which was equipment, tips, flours to use etc and how to knead.
The best part of this book was the photos. Bread making is something I’ve always wanted to do and it’s finally going to happen.
I’m going to make sourdough bread and:
Muffins
Flatbread
Pizza crust
Scones
Pretzels
Bagels
Yes, all of these things were in this book. Many of them are gluten-free if you’re interested. Everything was simply laid out. Doable. I highly recommend it.
Happy baking.

I admit to having a love hate relationship with this bread book. I loved all the recipes that I made, but I hate that none of the recipes have weight measurements which is the standard for bread.
For my review I made no-knead cranberry walnut bread, pecan cinnamon rolls, and wild blackberry scones. The cranberry walnut bread was amazing. Just cooled from the oven and spread with salted butter was one of the best slices of bread I've ever eaten. I will absolutely be making it again. The pecan cinnamon rolls were good and very simple. The wild blackberry scones spread out and didn't rise. Not sure what I did wrong there but they were delicious. My coffee group loved them but all agreed they weren't true scones.
If you don't care that there are only cup measurements then I highly recommend this book. If you want weights give it a pass.
A wonderful book about bread with beautiful laid out photos. This cookbook covers everything about making bread. I will definitely be buying a copy of this book as I love baking bread and would love to have a hard copy reference when I explore more of these recipes.
