Halloween and its ghost tales were scary enough, but the scariest thing for Chloe and Izzie was the idea of their aunt getting hauled back to jail for murder, so the girls knew they needed to sleuth this one out just like last time. I love little Max whose sniffer comes in handy sometimes for finding evidence. He ended up with a sweet little houseguest, but since said houseguest had an owner, he had to go back eventually. But sometimes with cute dogs come handsome owners...for unattached sisters, as I could tell Chloe's brain was working toward. It did help that Izzie seemed to be interested!

During the case itself, Chloe did seem to be getting closer to Hunter like she wanted to. She's just kinda scared to commit but he seems like a sweetheart who's willing to take things slow if needed--and he's there for her a lot more than Ross had time for. I was proud of Chloe for finally telling Ross how it was gonna be now. Ross wasn't an awful person or anything and his attorney skills definitely came in handy for Constance's case, but Chloe already knew life with him was fairly lonely since he worked so much. I can't wait to see what's in store for Chloe and Hunter in the next book!

There were lots of good red herrings as far as suspects went, but I kept going between two of them and I don't think I was ever sure who I picked, so I just enjoyed the showdown and reveal. Aunt Constance was safe from any prison threat now, and Hunter was just happy Chloe was safe from any killer lurking around. A crazy case and a fun lakefront Halloween celebration made for the perfect read for this time of year.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book provided by Crooked Lane Books via NetGalley, and my opinions are my own.

I wasn't a fan of the characters in the first book in this series but I found them more likeable in this one.
An entertaining cozy mystery that kept me guessing and reading.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

It is a fun time of year to visit Whisper Cove, New York and the Abbington sisters, Chloe and Izzie. They are busy with their new paint party shop, Paint with a View. It's October and fall is in the air as well as Halloween. They are hosting parties on a regular basis with attendees having a great time. Their Aunt Constance hired them to host a party for the Chautauqua Sisterhood, where she is the local president. During the event, a heated argument takes place between Constance and the director of the group, who announced the chapter is going to be dissolved. Both leave in a huff. The next day Viola's body is found near the ferry and Constance is the number one suspect. Ross, Chloe's ex-boyfriend and attorney, comes to town to represent Constance while Chloe and Izzie put on their sleuthing hats, against Detective Hunter Barrett's wishes, to find answers. The suspect pool is small, and the sisters go back and forth in their opinion of who was guilty. The dialogue between the sisters is somewhat silly to me at times but the story has a good mystery, light romance, and a nice setting. Recommended for cozy mystery lovers.

I gave Kill Them With Canvas by Bailee Abbott 3.75 stars.

Chloe Abbington and her sister, Izzie, are enjoying huge success running Paint with a View, their paint party business in the tranquil western New York lakeside town of Whisper Cove. Now, their aunt Constance—president of the local chapter of the Chautauqua Sisterhood—has hooked them up with a gig hosting a Halloween painting party. The guests will be painting a local ghost legend, the Lady of Chautauqua Lake, who died a hundred years earlier and rises from the lake every October to haunt anyone who dares venture out on All Hallows’ Eve.

The event seems to be going off without a hitch, until Chloe overhears an argument between Constance and Viola Finnwinkle, the Sisterhood director, about the fate of the local chapter. Both women leave and the sisters finish their painting. But the next morning, Viola’s body is discovered floating face down near the town ferryboat dock, her long red hair spread around her. Eerily, the image is an exact replica of a painting Chloe and Izzie had discovered at the event the night before.
What’s more, the police find Constance’s purple knit hat lying on the ground near the crime scene.

The second book in A Paint by Murder Mystery-series. This one was a little bit better than the first book. A fast and cute cozy mystery, that kept me entertained. I like both sisters, that sometimes can be too impulsive for their own good. There is also some romance in this book and I am looking forward to seeing how it will progress in the upcoming books.

This book takes place during Halloween something the cover doesn't hint at. I wish they would have put something on it that would showcase this, since I know it can be hard finding Halloween-themed cozy mysteries.

This book comes out Oct 11th.

Cosy authors come up with some intriguing ideas for running your own business. In Kill Them With Canvas sisters Chloe and Izzie are running a paint party business so, if you want an original way to entertain your guests, they come along and teach everyone how to paint. Sounds like fun.

Unfortunately one of their parties goes sadly wrong when two of the guests have a fight, both storm off, and the next day one of them is found floating face down in the lake. One of the suspects is the sisters' Aunt Constance so they begin investigating other possibilities. It is an interesting story, nicely told but the characters are a little over the top. Still it is fun and worth a read.

Kill Them with Canvas is the second book in the Paint by Murder Mystery series. The mystery was okay but the impending romance between Chloe and Hunter was better. I loved the last few pages and the potential for Izzie to have an HEA. It is the perfect time of the year for a Halloween story!

Chloe and Izzie own a painting party business called Paint With a View and it's going well. Their Aunt Constance , as the president of the group, sets them up doing a party for the Chautauqua Sisterhood. Things are going well until the director of the group shows up and informs Constance that she will not longer be the president because the chapter is being merged with several other chapters. Needless to say, Constance is none too happy about that and lets Viola know about it...loudly. The next day Viola is found drowned in the lake. Anyplace else it might be seen as a tragic accident but this is Whisper Cove, NY and they have a Halloween legend about a young woman who drowned in that lake. Did somebody decide to kill Viola and stage it to mirror the legend? While the killer is at it, why not leave Constance's purple knitted hat at the scene to make her the prime suspect? She won't be for long is Chloe and Izzie have anything to say about it.
I enjoyed this one a bit more than I did the debut mystery. The mystery is well developed, keeping me guessing - wrong-all the way through. I like the determination of the sisters and their effort to clear their aunt of a murder charge but they do tend to go overboard with their reactions, a bit too dramatic. It's not a deal breaker and I will read future books in the series.
My thanks to the publisher Crooked Lane and to NetGalley for giving me an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

DNF at 10%

Nope. This was just not my jam. I am very disappointed because Chautauqua, but life is too short to read poorly-written, angry, gripey, judgy books [and this was that and more and that was just in the first 10%!!!].

I had not liked the first book [and didn't finish that one either], but put it down to a truly awful narrator and therefore had high hopes for this book [which were dashed again]. Again, I am very disappointed. I spent so many summers on Chautauqua Lake and I will say the descriptions of the towns around the lake [and Mayville!!! I love that place] are the best part of the book. I really wish that this would have been better.

I will also say that the formatting of this book was just awful. I know that ARCS are ARCS, but you'd think that decent formatting would be important; if a publisher wants you to read a book, it needs to be, you know, readable. Sigh.

Kill Them with Canvas by Bailee Abbott is the second A Paint by Murder Mystery. We travel to Whisper Cove, New York where siblings, Chloe and Izzie Abbington own Paint with a View. The story is easy to read. I enjoyed the descriptions of the town and its shops. It is nearing Halloween and the town goes all out to decorate. They also have a haunted legend (the Lady of Chautauqua Lake). The sisters seem more confident in this book. Their business is doing well, and they did successfully solve one investigation. I do wish that Chloe’s name had been mentioned earlier in the book (make it easier for new readers). Her name is not mentioned until I was a tenth of away into the book (around the 11% mark). I do feel the melodrama was a little over-the-top. A few examples are Aunt Constance fainting every whipstitch, Dewey seemed upset over every incident, and another character sobbing away. The mystery has Chloe and Izzie’s aunt, Constance at the top of the suspect list. She was heard arguing with the victim, Viola Finnwinkle at the painting event. There is some physical evidence as well. It does not help that Constance will not provide a proper timeline for the police. Chloe and Izzie agree to help their aunt when she requests their assistance. There are a limited number of suspects plus a red herring or two. I liked how the author had me doubting who I thought was the killer. The resolution of the crime was okay. Kill Them with Canvas can be read as a standalone, but it will take you just a bit to catch up. Kill Them with Canvas is a colorful cozy with a painting party, a local legend, a collapsing Constance, a minty menace, costumed canines, evident evidence, and a fingered ferryman.

Cute storyline, I enjoyed the first one of the series and thought this one was even better. The main characters are fun and the mystery was interesting. I look forward to reading the next one in the series!

Chloe and Izzie find it impossible to believe that their aunt Constance would have murdered Viola. Sure, the two of them argued the night before Violet was found floating in the lake but murder? The sisters, who run an active painting party business, also dabble in solving murders, much to the dismay of potential lover interest Detective Hunter Barrett. It's a classic cozy where there was more than one person who disliked Viola, a few cute animals. and an interesting set of characters. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A light fun read.

A fun cozy mystery set in upstate New York. Chloe and Izzy, sisters and co-owners in a painting business try to prove their aunt is innocent in a murder. Enter Hunter the detective who is always in Chloe’s periphery, and the romance added a nice element. There were only a few suspects with each taking a turn at being the prime suspect.

This is book 2 in the series but it can be read as a standalone. I’d enjoy seeing where the series goes next. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc.

Kill Them with Canvas by Bailee Abbott is the second book in the Paint by Murder Mystery series. This is a fascinating storyline. Amateur sleuths Chloe Abbington and her sister Izzie, who own Paint with a View, are on the case when their Aunt Constance is the prime suspect in a murder. There are many twists and turns before Chloe and Izzie ferret out the murderer. I kept turning the pages to see what was happening next. I really like the characters and enjoyed their successful investigation. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Copaganda/police involvement: Literally none that I can remember.
Narrator: Chloe and Izzie, sisters and sleuths
What kind of animals are involved: Tiny white dog
Location: tranquil western New York lakeside town of Whisper Cove
Sub-location: Paint with a View, paint.... shop?? Activity center?
Whether or not there are recipes in the back: No :<
Notes on the puns of the title: Middling. 6/10
Further Notes: ART MURDER ART MURDER ART MURDER
Series #: A Paint By Murder Mystery 2

I liked this! I think this is a solid three-and-a-half star murder mystery; the only reason it doesn't hit four stars for me is no recipes in the back, although I guess it does technically make sense because food is not a major part of this cozy mystery. I'd read the next one in this series! They remind me of the Hat Shop Mysteries a bit, so if you're into those I think you'd like these. (Rounded up for Goodreads).

Kill Them With Canvas is the second book in Bailee Abbott's Paint by Murder Mystery series. This story opens with Chloe and Izzie planning a painting class for their Aunt Constance's Chautauqua Sisterhood chapter. During the course of the event, Aunt Constance gets into an argument with the regional director of the Sisterhood. When the director is later found dead, Aunt Constance soon becomes the primary suspect in the case and Chloe and Izzie start investigating to try to save their aunt from being arrested.

The author does a good job of character development and setting the scene without going so far in depth so as to overwhelm the reader with unnecessary details. Throughout this story, the author introduces a variety of red herrings and misdirects that lead to a variety of suspect and motives which captures the reader's attention and leads to a surprising reveal.

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books and am leaving the review voluntarily.

Kill Them With Canvas is the second book in Bailee Abbott’s Paint by Murder mystery series. I very much enjoyed this relatively new series. Somehow I missed the first in the series, but I’ll definitely be getting it to read.

Sisters Chloe and Izzie run their new business, Paint with a View, in their lakeside hometown of Whisper Cove, New York. Their Aunt Constance has booked them for a job hosting a Halloween painting party for her chapter of the Chautauqua Sisterhood. It’s looking to be a great gig until the director of the Sisterhood, Viola, and Aunt Constance are heard arguing. Viola is dissolving Constance’s chapter, thereby stripping her of her presidency. Chloe steps in and attempts to calm them down and they part ways. Later that evening while cleaning up, Chloe finds an eerie painting left behind depicting a woman with long red hair floating dead in the lake. The next morning, Viola is found floating in the lake - exactly how the painting was depicted. And Aunt Constance is the number one suspect. Chloe and Izzie leap into action to try and clear their beloved aunt’s name and find out whodunnit.

Even though this is the second book in the series, it can be read as a standalone. It’s so well-written that it was easy to get to know the characters and the relationships between them all. The author also brought the setting to life. It can be difficult to write setting at times, but Ms. Abbott did a great job painting the town so it comes alive. I could easily envision what the town surrounding the lake looks like, and it sounds like someplace I’d love to visit.

Plenty of red-herrings abound to keep the story lively and interesting. Also added are characters who try to muddy the waters for the sleuthing sisters. I was completely immersed in the story and read it in one sitting.

I highly recommend this book to lovers of Cozy Mysteries. Thank you to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for allowing me to read the advanced copy. I’m happy to leave my thoughts on this book.

I was excited to get my hands on #KillThemwithCanvas by Bailee Abbott, the second book in the Paint by Murder mystery series, from #NetGalley and #CrookedLaneBooks.
Once again the mystery is imaginative, with a multitude of suspects that keep you guessing right to the end of the book.
The book is well-written, although a bit wordy and repetitive in spots, especially regarding the history of the main character Chloe's relationship with her ex-boyfriend Ross. In addition, I found the first chapter tedious, and had I not been committed to leaving a review, I'd have given up on the book on that basis alone. Luckily, the storyline picked up and piqued my interest from the next chapter.
All-in-all, the book is entertaining and worth the read.

What a delight it is to meet back up with the Chloe, Izzie and the folks of Whisper Cove. Abbott’s not only well written characters but one heck of a twisty, turny whodunit plot, which balances the red-herrings and the clues perfectly. I also enjoy the uniqueness of a sleuthing duo of sisters, with Chloe taking the lead. This is the second in the Paint By Murder Mystery series, so be sure to pick up book one, A Brush with Murder, and get caught up on this great series.

Chloe and her sister Izzie are happy their paint party shop, Paint with a View, is doing very well. Their aunt Constance, who is president of the local chapter of the Chautauqua Sisterhood, has set them up for a Halloween paint party. But during the party Chloe overhears her aunt having a heated argument with one of the other sisters, Viola Finnwinkle. When Viola's body is discovered, Chloe and Izzie are shocked, the scene is exactly that of one of the paintings made the evening before during the event. The police find out about the argument of Constance and Viola and also find Constance's hat near the crime scene and she instantly becomes suspect number one. Chloe and Izzie do all they can to prove the innocence of their aunt.

I enjoyed the first book a lot, but this second one is even better! The story had a good pace in it, I had no idea who did it. I was so focused on the wrong person and when it was announced I was like, yeah.... yeah that makes sense!!! I also love the development of the main characters and the supporting characters. I truly hope more books will come in this series as I very much enjoy it.
