Their work on social media was what drew me into their writing and this compilation was good to see together.

Beautiful, tender and wise, this is a book I’ll come back to again and again. Mimi Zhu and “Be Not Afraid of Love” are a balm for anyone whose heart is hurting!

Sadly DNF. Although I was very excited about this book, Mimi Zhu's work felt misaligned with other, wiser forbearers of this genre. While I appreciated their citing authors like bell hooks' pivotal works on love, sometimes these references felt like a reach and read as far too college essay-like in delivery. There was a lot of promise in, the work, although their lens felt far too personal and therefore unrelatable to the average reader. Unfortunately, in the end it didn't hold my attention. Looking forward to what Mx Zhu creates in the future!

A really beautiful, raw, and affective meditation on abuse, identity, vulnerability, and love. Mimi Zhu shares their experiences with clarity and gorgeous prose-- you can see their therapeutic process at work and they model the type of self-examination and radical healing that the book walks the reader through as well. It is transformative and revolutionary, absolutely necessary reading.
