I am really enjoying reading this series and watching as it grows better and better. The setting, characters, and murders are just what I need right now!
As I’ve mentioned in my review for book two, the Witch Way Librarian Mysteries by Angela M. Sanders is becoming my favorite paranormal cozy mystery series. The way Josie uses the books to help her find answers and how they talk to her is many a book lover’s dream… including mine… and the scene with the book ballet and the racing book… fantastic!.
As for the characters, there are so many quirky ones to enjoy. I really like how Rodney, her familiar, is sassy and actually helps her in the way that familiars do. In many other paranormal series it seems like the cat is just kind of there because witches are supposed to have cats. The library has become the gathering spot since the diner has been closed which leads to some really amusing scenes with a bunch of the characters.
There were a couple of rough spots, but is every book ever really perfect for every reader? The two that got to me were how jealous (and how much of the book this troupe took up) Josie and Roz got when the movie star flirted with “their” men. And Josie isn’t even together with the guy she has a crush on.
The other part was the ending… there was so much going on (and it was the perfect Agatha Christie ending) but it was really rushed and I just wish it was drawn out a bit for the reader to enjoy it more.
But will this keep me from reading book four in the series… No, it will not. And I highly recommend that you give this series a read.
Thank you, author, publisher, and NetGalley, for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
I like the story plot. However, I find the story a little boring. I usually finish the book within a day, but this one took me a while. Only the last few chapters stand out for me.
If you are looking for a cute mystery read, this book is for you. However, if you're a fan of high-level mystery, and thriller experience, you might not enjoy this book like I do.
Up in a small town in the Pacific Northwest a major movie star arrives to host a session of her book club featuring a local author, Roz. When a member of the movie star's entourage is murdered in a fashion echoing the.murder in the book, librarian and fledgling witch, Josie Way, comes to the rescue to figure out the crime. Jose's special talent in witchery is bibliomancy. Listening to the books in the library, making them dance and being able to recommend the perfect book are among the uses if her talent. The whole series is charming. While this book could be read as a standalone, I would suggest starting from the beginning will bring you the most enjoyment.
This is a charming fun cozy paranormal series that I enjoy returning to . This is the third in the "Witch Way Librarian" series by cozy author Angela Sanders. Each book in the series has a well crafted sleuth, great charcters and paranormal fun throughout. Thank you to the author, the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity. My review opinions are my own.
The intriquing charm of this series is a library set in a historic Victorian in picturesque Oregon with each room devoted to books. The library is a gathering place for all the quirky residents leading to much humor in this series. The new librarian is our protagnist and new witch Josie who is settleted into her job and learning her unique powers are inherited as she studies her families historic documents on creating spells and being a witch. Josie has a unique fun cat and a relationship with books that is part of the fun of this series. She can communicate with books as a bibliomancy hearing the books wishes and how they connect with the right person.
This next installment finds a famous actress has arrived in town and created quite the buzz among the residents . She has set her sights on Josie's love interest the Sheriff Sam and offended a few with her attitude . She is to attend a book reading at the library that Josie is hosting with her co librarian . The fun ensues with much humor as the mystery develops . This was enchanting to the conclusion. I hope this series wil continue as the charcters grow and each mystery is fun and intriquing.
I really enjoy this series! The theme is fantastic, and the author does a great job of fleshing out the characters and the setting. The story was well-paced, and I had so much fun trying to solve the mystery. I love that Josie is a librarian, and she is a very relatable character.
This series continues to be one of my favorites. Josie has made the small town of Wilfred, OR her home after having sought refuge from her past as a whistle blower. Since arriving she has become the town librarian, moved into large Victorian house that is home to the library, discovered that she is a witch who communes with the books and now has a cat familiar named Rodney. What's not to love about a cozy mystery with so much going for it? The mystery is engaging, too.
In this, the third entry (I think best read in order) Josie encounters another murder when a famous actress comes to town to interview Roz, the assistant librarian, about her romance novel. Daphne is more than an actress, she has a celebrity book club. That means lots of followers. It's safe to say that almost everybody in town is under her spell. That includes the men in Josie and Roz's lives. For Josie and Roz...not so much. Same for Daphne's staff. When Roz lets her feelings fly in public and Daphne's personal chef is later found dead -in a way that mirrors part of Roz's book, Josie needs to catch the killer before Roz is carted off to jail for a long stay.
With a great cast of quirky locals, magical actions by the library books and my favorite, Rodney, set in a well crafted mystery, this was a fun read. I hope there will be more in the series. My thanks to the publisher Kensington and to NetGalley for giving me an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
This is a very enjoyable series that I would recommend.
In this, the third book of the series, Josie is really beginning to utilize her magic and her affinity with the books in the library. She is also continuing to go through the lessons her grandmother left for her. There are fun scenes with the books chattering or dancing or providing insights. The racing book is a hoot! That aspect of the story elevates this book and makes it fun to read.
Actress Daphne Morris and her entourage have come to town for a television show interview with library assistant Roz who is a romance novelist. As grandmother would say, Daphne has glamor and quickly charms the men in her orbit, including Roz's love and Sam, who is now the Sheriff, and the man Josie pines for.
Roz has a jealous fit and causes quite a commotion at the party set up for the townsfolk and the television folks so when a member of Daphne's entourage is found murdered in a way similar to that in Roz's book, she is questioned. Did the murderer mean to kill Daphne? It's clear to Josie that Roz is being framed and there are many undercurrents with the entourage and a stalker.
The mystery is not an easy one to solve and that also adds to my enjoyment of this book. I did not see it coming at all, but the clues are there.
I received an ARC from the publisher, but the opinions expressed are not biased by that and are truly my own.
This series continues to be a real charmer. The community is a stand out, with a lot of quirky characters, and I love how the main character, and author, have created a library that is a true community heart. This one has an insufferable actress who shockingly ends up NOT being the murder victim and other great side characters. I enjoy the way that Josie's magic is incorporated- it's not to heavy handed, but it does add some great sparkle to the series.
Daphne turns everything upside down when she comes to Wilford to interview Roz for her book club. Sure Roz is thrilled that her novel has been chosen by the movie star but she's not too happy, nor is Josie, when Daphne starts flirting with all the men. And then Daphne's personal chef (!) is murdered in the same fashion as one of the characters in Roz's book. Well, trust Josie, a librarian who is learning her witchy powers, to start investigating. It's pretty classic cozy territory with the notable addition of the fact that Josie is a witch and her cat Rodney her familiar. I like the characters in this series (don't worry- this will be fine on it's own) and the fact that Josie is a librarian. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A sprightly read with some good red herrings.
Witch and Famous by Angela M. Sanders is the third novel in A Witch Way Librarian Mysteries. Witch and Famous is an amusing paranormal cozy mystery. Josie Wray is an interesting main character. She is a librarian with special magical abilities. I like that her special gift is bibliomancy. Josie can talk to and hear the books. Josie can recommend the perfect book for each patron. She is slowly learning how to use her magic thanks to letters (magical lessons) left to her by her grandmother. There are a variety of quirky characters in the story. Wilfred, Oregon is a small town where everyone knows your business and gossip flows faster than maple syrup on hot pancakes. There are many amusing incidents. I was not a fan of the women getting jealous when Daphne Morris smiled and flirted with their beaus. I found Roz’ behavior to be juvenile. Roz really let the green-eyed monster get to her. Josie has no reason to be jealous because Sam is just her friend. Josie has a “crush” on Sam, but he treats her like a good friend. The mystery was a fun one to solve. I like how the clues were sprinkled throughout the book. There are red herrings to distract readers from solving the crime before the reveal. I did feel the reveal was a bit rushed considering the complexity. The solution to the crime suited the story. I enjoyed the books dialogue and how the various books behaved. The book on racing was particularly amusing. There is humor scattered throughout the story to keep readers amused. Witch and Famous can be read as a standalone as the author provides the necessary background information on our main character. You will be missing out details regarding the townspeople. The story is a bit of a slow starter with most of the action taking place in the second half. The magic helped spice up the story. Josie is slowly learning her craft, but she does need to learn caution. I was glad that the name of the town was not mentioned so frequently as in Bait and Witch. With and Famous is a magical tale with a magnetic movie star, prying residents, fatal threats, a mischievous feline, a green-eyed girlfriend, a smitten sheriff, a powerful potion, and a meddling librarian.
Another fantastic book in one of my favorite cozy mystery series. I cannot believe how far Josie has come in both her magic skills and seeing how well she fits into this town. She has integrated herself and now I don't know what they would do without her. This mystery became more and more complicated and I was thoroughly stumped. Luckily Josie drew inspiration from her collection of fictional sleuths and performed a marvelous Poirot style reveal at the end, which had me shocked. I love seeing all the towns people involved and hanging out at the library. I also love the romance that is blooming and cannot wait to see what else Josie can learn to do with her newly found magic.
This is the third book in this series, and I’ve been reading this series since the beginning. Having been a librarian for 6 years of my life and working at a bookstore for almost 10 years, I love anything to do with those two professions. Add in magic with books, and I’m there for it all. Josie is a great character, and I love her attraction to Sam, but I hate how she’s just a tad wishy-washy in this one about that including this jealousy everyone has with Daphne. However, this is still a great addition to this great cozy paranormal series, and it’s well-written as always. Rodney is a great familiar to Josie, and I feel there is more to explore with him. Icing in the cake: I couldn’t figure out the murders. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
Witch and Famous by Angela M. Sanders is the third book in the Witch Way Librarian series. I have been really enjoying this series. Josie Way has discovered she's a witch and is relying on letters from her grandmother for instruction. I am fascinated by her unusual magic - books communicate with her. Plus Josie's a truth-teller which means she is a witch compelled to seek justice. In this book Josie has to use her witchy talents to solve a murder mystery. I really like the main characters and get a kick out of the quirky residents of Wilford, Oregon. This book is a great addition to the series.
DNF at 15%. The setting is cute and I really like the premise of an amateur sleuth having magical librarian powers. However, there are a lot of characters and I'm not in a place where I can commit myself to this fictional universe right now. Also - someone please tell the author that "g*psy" is a slur and should not be used as a cutesy descriptor.
Josie Way, librarian and witch returns in the third book of Witch Way Librarian mystery series.
Josie is learning more about her magic and enjoying interacting with the books in the Wilfred library.
Roz is scheduled to do an interview on one of her romances with a movie star Daphne. Problems start popping up as soon as Daphne gets to town. Both Roz and Josie have cause to worry about their men in the presence of Daphne, who seems to have a hypnotic effect on men.
I love all the books talking to Josie. Look out for an Indy 500 history book. And the mushroom guide was a fun one too.
On the witch side, look out for book ballets and defense and love potions.
The murder ends up being a complicated affair.
I thoroughly enjoyed Witch and Famous. A new to the series reader might feel a little lost with the many references to previous events. I would suggest reading in order.
Super cute little murder mystery with some magical elements sprinkled in. I'm very intrigued with this author and series and can't wait to read more!
What a fun paranormal cozy mystery. Josie has one of the coolest powers. You should probably read the previous books to better fully understand and enjoy it. I read this book first and then started from the beginning.
Thank you Kensington Books and NetGalley for providing this ARC to review. ~I was given this book and made no commitments to leave my opinions, favorable or otherwise. ~
Josie Way enjoys practicing her emerging witch skills as she manages the library in Wilfred, Oregon. Josie interacts with the books as they talk to her, making recommendations for library patrons when they come in looking for something to read.
In this third Witch Way Librarian series, a well-known actress Daphne Morris selects the assistant librarian’s new novel for her televised book club and plans to interview Roz on her show. When Daphne’s chef is murdered, Josie and her black cat familiar, Rodney, investigate as Roz becomes a suspect.
Angela M. Sanders writes a bewitching cozy with a clever plotline, appropriate red herrings, and intriguing twists.
Witch and Famous is the third book in the Witch Way Librarian series, and I wouldn't have missed it! This series is so much fun!
The series is about Josie Way, a small-town librarian in Oregon, who has recently discovered her powers as a witch. Josie's specific powers allow her to communicate with books, even ones she has not yet read. This gives her the uncanny ability to provide book recommendations for her patrons when even they don't know they need it.
In this story, Josie's assistant librarian Roz, who moonlights as a romance writer, is chosen by a famous actress to be a featured author for her monthly book club. The actress arrives with her entourage to their small town and sets everything on end. The men of the town are notably more well-groomed and are enthralled by the actress' charms. Then, it seems that someone is out to kill her.
I loved the twists and turns and I thought I had figured out who the murderer was and then I didn't! I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a fun paranormal mystery. I received an ARC of this book from the publishers and NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
