the illustrations are nice and beautiful, i love them so much. but the text is too small for a children book. and i think the diction is too hard for kids? it's nice for bedtime story readalong with caregivers, though.
This sweet little picture book follows a group of nocturnal animals as they gather at the Midnight Library for story time. The illustrations bring the night alive and the mixture of animals makes for some fun conversation.
Thank you netgalley for letting me review this book.
It was such a cute story. I loved all the illustrations of how all the critters made it to their final destination.

The preschooler that I watch, and I really enjoyed reading this book a lot. First of all, the illustrations were stunning. She could not stop talking about how pretty the book was which, she really never usually mentions with books. Also, the story was great in this one. Loved the Twilight Library and the lyrical writing in this piece. I definitely recommend it for preschoolers.
*Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for my ARC of the book. All opinions are my own. *
The illustrations are captivating and I thoroughly enjoy looking at every inch of this book's pages. The story itself is wonderful and lyrical. I just love this book so much.
A charming picture book which I look forward to reading with a child to see their enjoyment. The pictures are beautiful and very detailed, providing subjects for talking with a little one.
Highly recommended.
Thank you to NetGalley and North South Books for the advance copy. The illustrations are lovely and I love the concept--a library-themed book that does not take place in a library. It was very descriptive of nature and the storytime "attendees."
I give this book 3 stars. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous, so whimsical, beautiful colours and so detailed. I enjoyed poring over each page to find all the details. The story itself is very lyrical and poetic and I like the idea of the spider being the one who is spinning a story for the other animals and insects. I found myself wanting more of a story and growing bored. I do not not think that my children(ages 3, 6, and 9) would be very engaged.
I thought this was such a beautiful picture book. The illustrations were beautifully done and I loved the story. I love the idea of the little animals have their own little library and the animal librarian tells a story each night. I think this would make a perfect story to tell at bedtime to little kids.
The Twilight Library is a children’s picture book written by Carmen Oliver.
Summary: The animals are being called to a special spot in the wilderness. It’s time for the Night Librarian to share her tales of wonder and imagination!
My Thoughts: This is a cute little book. I love the idea behind the story, and think the book does a wonderful job of sparking the imagination. The pictures were very pretty, and were a great complement to the story.
Overall, I enjoyed this story, although I thought the red eyes of the rats were a little creepy. Mice might have been a better choice!
I would like to thank North South Books, Inc. for providing me with a free digital copy of this book in exchange for my review. Thank you.
This picture book of nature, little creatures, and a library is absolutely beautiful. The writing is quiet poetic, and the art was stunning! This reminded me of some of the picture books from my own childhood, both in writing and the pictures. The little spider librarian reading your bedtime story seemed so cozy, I'd definitely recommend this as a nice bedtime story for little ones.
*I was given a copy of this title via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
"The Twilight Library" is a perfect story to read before sleeping. 💤
All of the beautiful watercolored illustrations and soft words make readers (or listeners) comfortable and calm. 🥰
I would read it to my child if I had one. 😅
The Twilight Library is such a magical book. I picked it up because my godchild is at the age where we can slowly introduce stories and reading to him. This is definitely a book I would recommend to his parents. I love the idea that children can all grow up with these as a beginning and an introduction to the magical world of words. The illustrations are adorable. The only complaint I have about this book is the font. I hope that changes before publication.
Thank you #NetGalley for the arc of The Twilight Library in exchange for an honest review.
Beautiful watercolor illustrations take the main stage for me as they uncover the story the author tells. The critters are adorable, and the details of them & the world surrounding them is outstanding. Paired with a lullaby-like story, this book will be a great story before bed for kids.
A tale of a wise old spider telling his forest friends a story, a story to dream about and want to go back to.
My only wish is that this book was longer. Even as an adult I got invested in it and wanted more pages with the story & beautiful illustrations.
Thanks to Netgalley and North South for a free digital copy.
This book is beautifully illustrated and very literary for a picture book. A bit too literary for my taste but gorgeous nonetheless.
A library buried in the forest with a sweet spider inside weaving stories for all the nighttime critters. Beautiful illustrations and lyrical prose gently rock the reader/listeners to sleep.
Thank you #NetGalley for the arc of 'The Twilight Library.'
Colorful and stylistic watercolor illustrations with lyrical language drew me into this story. Personally, I enjoyed the title and idea of the forest critters being drawn into a wonderful web of stories, set against whimsical illustrations with beautiful detail. The storytelling fell short, however, and disconnected from the story's initial set up of gathering for a shared story. Reading this book aloud felt clunky and disjointed, though there are some lovely phrases ("downy soft nests, honeycomb hives") that are unfortunately lost and overshadowed by the odd narrative choices.
The creatures of the night all gather to attend to a spider's storytelling session, with no thought to eating each other, procreating or anything else creatures of the night are wont to do when together. There's a romance in the script and in the illustrations, but I couldn't say either really grabbed me and made me think this was essential. At least the lesson that story sessions are a time of togetherness and peace for all is a strong one – three and a half stars, then.
As I cuddled up with my 4 year old we dove into the whimsical world of the Night Librarian as he spun a tale of mystery for the forest critters to enjoy.
The illustrations woven together with the lyrical storytelling made this book simply beautiful. My daughter and I enjoyed the small details present on each page - the little bats and fireflies were our favorites! This was perfect for bedtime and a story that will be loved by children and adults alike.
I would love a library like that!
Thank you, North South Books Inc, for the advance reading copy.
