There is no such thing as a bad Johnstone western. Each series is built around main characters whose belief in the law and family is absolute, even if they've had to be reformed to get there. From Preacher, the original mountain man to the Jensen family to Perly Gates, to.....well, you get the point. Many times, characters from one series will show up in another as supporting hands. The communities are true to the era, clothing, guns, food and troubles are all what you'd find if you looked them up in the history books. No two stories are the same, each character or set of characters is unique and so are their stories. The writing is skillful, readers are pulled into the story and you will laugh and cry right along with the characters. I made the mistake of picking up a Johnstone western my uncle was reading. Ive been hooked ever since. Now I share them with my reading family and will continue as long as new Johnstones are released.
This was an excellent read. It was so much fun that I had to read it all in one sitting. I loved all the action in this book. It had a brilliant medium to fast pace that definitely kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. I loved how this book also had a strong female protagonist in miss diamond who was quite happy to join in the fights and definitely kept slah and pecos on there toes. The characters were all well developed and made for an exciting story. There was great action throughout this book which I just love. This made the book a real page turner. The authors did an excellent job at creating a wonderful sense of atmosphere in this story. I definitely recommend this book to all those who love westerns with a faster pace. I just love slash and pecos characters they are fun and slight crazy . I am definitely looking forward to read more stories following these 2 characters. Although this book is part of a series it really worked well as a standalone alone as I haven't read the other books in this series and I didn't feel like I was missing anything.
So much praise goes out to the authors and publishers for creating this brilliant fast paced story that I thoroughly enjoyed. I will definitely be reading more great books from this pair of authors.

A roaring good time of two adventures in one.
This entry in the Pecos and Slash series has the two off to find a dance hall actress as the ladies at home find themselves ensconced in their own battle.
The part featuring the main characters begins in a quiet way and soon unravels into one chaotic scene after another. The rhythm of each set is well written. To a point of the repeated jumbles coming as frustrating to the reader as the main characters. This helps the book. The resolution, I found, was obvious, but may not be to others.
The second story was far more intense and very well done. That resolution was unclear as the story unfolded as far more serious with an air of mystery that worked well.
The dialogue is fine, though, as i usually remark, i wish speaking words were more representative of the time and less molded to satisfy today's readers.
Settings are far better than some Johnstone books. A particularly difficult feat of earth moving is well orchestrated.
This recent Johnstone Clan entry continues to present far more women involved and being an integral part of stories than the decades of Johnstone Clan books before.
Bottom line: I recommend this book. 7 out of ten points.
Sons of Thunder by William W. Johnstone and J.A. Johnstone is another Slash and Pecos story and it's not the best in the series even though there are parts that are really funny. I do like a good western but this one is not really up there, sadly. I actually think that the author spreads himself to thin with all the series going on but most of them are really entertaining. I will continue reading the works of Johnstone and give thanks to Pinnacle, Kensington and Netgalley for providing me with hours of reading.
This is my first Slash and Pecos book, and I loved it! These two are good together, as they try to capture Miss Fannie to take her in for questioning. Ah, but it isn't so easy, and the stuff these two go through is amazing. And the story also involves Jay. who is one tough cookie! I am hooked on reading the Johnstone books, and I have a lot of catching up to do. In the meantime, if you're looking for a good western, this one is a great one to add to your reading list!

Slash & Pecos (#5)
It is a great addition to the series and I believe our patrons will enjoy it. I will be purchasing it for our library.
5 stars
What a great book. I enjoyed the ride! The plot was thrilling and exciting. Highly recommended. Can't wait to more but this author.
Sons of Thunder was a great addition to Johnstone's A Slash and Pecos Western series. I loved it. Five stars.
“Sons of Thunder” by the Johnstone family continues to follow the exploits of two “retired” outlaws turned freight wagon drivers who just happen to be beholding to US Marshal Bledsoe. These two known as James “Slash” Braddock and Melvin “Pecos Kid” Baker have been very effective in doing some of Bledsoe’s dirty work in the past to keep them from the hangman’s noose.. Bledsoe has a hold over these two former outlaws and uses it when and as he sees fit.
Slash has recently gotten married and is beginning to settle down…or as settled as a 50-ish former outlaw can. His wife Jaycee is the owner of an establishment that is mostly saloon. She is not a traditional female of the west…she can ride and shoot as well as many men.
In this installment, Slash and Pecos have been sent to get an actress and bring her to Denver so she can testify in an upcoming trial. Bledsoe tells them it is a simple job and should take no more than a few days, a week at most. Well as the reader might expect this is far from the truth. The actress happens to be the girl of a notorious outlaw.
Many adventures befall this pair of sort of law dogs before they complete their mission. Just to keep things interesting, “Jay” has some interesting adventures of her own with a former boyfriend who wants to buy her establishment.
If a reader is looking for some good rip-roaring Western novel adventure then this is the book for you.; shootings, being thrown off trains, outlaw battles, and other interesting adventures await. Hard to put it down.
