Wonderful book, full of romance, adventure and plot twists. I loved the subtle references to The Gladiator movie and to another famous movie about a ship… But I won’t spoiler it!!! Gibb is every bit the typical dashing hero that I love to read in a romance novel, even if he has his flaws and he’s more sensitive than he wants to show. And Isabel is the brave bluestocking you want to root for!
I love this series and I can’t wait to read about another MacGalloway sibling!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Isabella Harcourt is a Bluestocking spinster whose father came to her suddenly and explained that she would be getting married. To a stranger twice her age. Who lives in Georgia. She was shocked and disappointed but resigned herself to her fate. She packs up her ancient tablets that she enjoys translating and stoically departs for America, hoping to make the best of her situation.
Captain Gibb MacAlster is the third son of a Duke, but chooses to keep himself busy and has built a very successful shipping business. He is married to the sea and his ship with no plans to get married or stay ashore long. But when he is asked to transport Isabella to America, he is put to the test.
This was such a sweet, romantic read. Gibb was honorable the entire trip to America, but it was clear they both knew how they felt about each other. But with Isabella’s fiance waiting for her, there was no choice for either of them. However, fate has a way of intervening and their reunion was exactly what I hoped it would be!
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley to review and all opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed this book. The two main characters were charming and had good conversation between them. I liked the slow yet realistic relationship building between them and the action filled later 1/3 of the book. I think the cast of characters with witty writing was a great strength of this book. Also, the storyline deviated from the classic Georgian romances with the roman love story alongside the main one and the Spanish treasure which was fun to read. I definitely recommend this book to any one looking for a unique take on the classic historical romance.
This book was unexpectedly good and it managed to keep my interest until I finished reading it. It is a romance book, so of course, it gets predictable in a way that we all know these two characters are headed for a happy ending anyway no matter how angsty. But I must say that the events of this book were rather unpredictable and managed to surprise me a great deal. We have the hero and heroine who are attracted to each other though they know they shouldn’t be. I liked the forbidden aspect of it (I am a sucker for illicit affairs) and I was expecting for them to finally succumb to their desire but both are way too honorable. I really enjoyed this book and will be picking up more by the author!
Amy Jarecki is one of my favorite authors in the Historical Romance world. Every story of Jarecki’s that I have read have enthralled me from cover to cover, THE CAPTAIN’S HEIRESS is no exception. This is the story of two people not looking for love yet finding love whilst on a cross-Atlantic sea voyage. One thing you will note from the beginning is Jarecki’s extensive research that she weaves into the story, I never finish one of her books without having learned a thing or two about historical events, society, noteworthy people, and sometimes just quirky things that I was previously unawares. I also enjoy the way Jarecki is able to take two characters from different walks of life and bring them together for a happily ever after. 😍
There are numerous reviews of this book that recount the plot, characters, conflicts, and of course the romance - so I will end this review with the suggestion that you grab this book and enjoy the voyage ⚓️⛴🏴☠️

2.5 stars.
It was alright, quick and easy read. But i felt like it was very little to no chemistry between the characters. I liked Gibb, he was interesting, but Isabella not so much.
I loved this one, but then I've always been a sucker for romances with either pirates or ships captains. I guess that's what happens when your first literary crush is Captain Hook.
This is every bit a romance movie from the big screen. There is much to like about this book, but there are also a few negatives. The characters are amazing, Gibb in particular. They are everything you want them all to be. The plot has ups, downs and twists. At times the story felt like it was lagging, which is a negative for me. It felt like the book is about 2 chapters too long. Outside of that I really loved this book. I hope there will be another in the series.
this checked off everything I look for in a book. Was not disappointed. Really enjoyed this book. I will read more from this author. Must read. Historical fiction oh yeah. Love me some of this.
This was another beautifully written story by Amy Jarecki! I loved both characters and the plot! It was nicely developed and with enough drama to keep you on your toes!
Loved it!
Amy's stories are always a little different. It's a story of friendship that grows and absence does make the heart grow fonder. This story is not loaded with action like so many of Amy's are but it's packed with her historical research and interesting takes on people we don't often see in romance. I really enjoyed seeing these two find each other again after leaving her in Savannah. It's a spinster who's aging father essentially sold her to a older rich American who struck gold and made a fortune. And an intrepid second son sea captain Gibb MacGalloway who never considered marriage, being married to the sea. Neither are looking for love but find it anyway on the long sea voyage to Savannah Georgia.
Isabella Harcourt is 25, living with her father Sir Kingston Harcourt, in their West Sussex estate. She's been raised by nanny's and boarding schools as her momma died young and her father was off serving his country most of her life. An old Roman ruin was discovered on their property and Isabella spends her days piecing together and translating tablets found there. A very solitary and satisfying life after her season didn't go well years ago. Her father has been corresponding with a rich American. When offered a huge pension by Mr. Arent Schuyler for marriage to Isabella he says yes. Isabella is horrified and finds herself quickly bundled off on a ship captained by the son of an old family friend.
Gibb MacGalloway is not happy to discover his brother the Duke of Dunscaby has contracted with Sir Harcourt to ferry his daughter to meet her intended in Savannah Georgia. Women are not allowed on his ship and he has nowhere for her as he's a merchant ship, not equipped for passengers. Nonetheless, Isabella is coming aboard with her maid Maribel. He displaces two of his officers from their cabins and tries to isolate the ladies from the crew. Things don't go as planned and Gibb finds himself keeping Isabella company while his 1st Mate keeps Maribel company on the month long voyage. Gibb finds himself helping Isabella with her tablets and is intrigued by the mystery of who wrote the letters. Parting is difficult in Savannah and Gibb feels assured that Arent is a good man. He can't forget her and finds himself off to the Spanish Mediterranean trying to locate the tablet writers' villa. Circumstances lead them to find each other once again in Spain.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Isabella Harcourt is consumed by ancient Roman tablets found on her father's country estate. Unexpectedly, her father informs her he has negotiated a marriage for a finder's fee between her and a rich American miner in Georgia. I'm going to insert my opinion about her father. I think this is totally selfish and hurtful, just to have money for his old age. Isabella is sent on her journey the next day to Scotland to board a ship to Georgia. Captain Gibb MacGalloway is attracted to Isabella. The voyage gives Gibb and Isabella the opportunity to translate the tablets. Love letters of a Roman soldier to his wife. Nothing can come from the attraction between Gibb and Isabella, until fate puts a twist in their future.
Heat Level 4.

One kiss is often unforgettable... Thinking never to see that person again...
Although in this case you do and he is a Scot sailing his ship that you are now a passenger on.
Must I say more?
Amy brings memorable characters to her descriptive stories, that are not soon forgotten! A wallflower who is destined to sail to America and marry an undesirable older man as deemed by her father.
What else can she do?
He tries to stay away from the lovely woman he kissed and thought never to see. But she has an intriguing mystery to solve concerning some relics that brings them even closer together!
Cannot wait to read more and such a beautiful cover!
Isabella is betrothed to another unwillingly, a man twice her age and across the ocean in America and she must board a ship. Women are not allowed and bad luck on ships.
Gibb and Isabella make a connection but it is not until later that they can act on their feelings. Through happenstance and mishaps bring this couple together. What a great story.
Loved reading this book! The characters were awesome! The story was amazing. Thanks for sharing your adventure! Can't wait for more!
Another joyous addition to the MacGalloway Chronicles. This Scottish family has a way of doing everything with such joy and love you cannot help but wish to be a part of it. I knew Captain Gibb MacGallloway would fall hard when he finally met the right woman. That woman of course, had to have an adventurous spirit (even if she didn’t realize it at first). This tale was the perfect slow burn, a mix of angst and joy as they came to know each other. The friendships on board the Prosperity show the loyalty and affection of all the core for their Captain. Of course, this isn’t one love story but multiple connections brought together through an epic treasure hunt. The love and journey of Marcus & Flavia brought tears to my eyes, history is full of epic romance to be unearthed. Which was the perfect pairing as Gibb & Isabella charted their course. The history scattered throughout this story adds a special new dimension as well. As I read this series, each book just gets better. I cannot wait to see what comes next in the MacGalloway romances.
The Captain’s Heiress by Amy Jarecki
The MacGalloways #3
Marriages of convenience and not always convenient…especially when you are in love with another man. Doing one’s duty is not always easy but it is sometimes necessary…right? Will Isabella and Gibb find a way to be together and if so, how will it all come about?
What I liked:
* Isabella Harcourt: daughter, scholar, puzzle solver, educated, spinster, “sold” by her father in an arranged marriage to an older American sight unseen
* Gibb MacGalloway: captain of his own ship, ex-British Navy, brother of a duke, one of eight siblings, a bit of a rake, good and fair leader, enjoys puzzles
* Duncan: the cabin boy on the ship, orphan, taken under the wing of Gibb and the crew
* Mirabelle Hume: Isabella’s lady’s maid and companion, dedicated, stalwart, supportive and has a bit of a romance of her own
* The meet-cute in the orchard with archery
* The time on the ship that allowed time to get to know one another to two couples on the ship
* That the man Isabella was betrothed to was a good man
* The ancient puzzle portion of the story and how it was solved
* The sailors on the ship
* The way the story eventually worked out in the end
* Thinking that perhaps Phillip will be up next in the series and wondering how that will work out.
What I didn’t like:
* Knowing that women of that era were considered commodities and “sold” to the highest bidder
* Having to wait for the next book in the series
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely
Thank you to NetGalley, Oliver Heber, and the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
4-5 Stars
A thoroughly wonderful romance that is perfect for any adult collection. I was completely invested in it from start to finish, and can see it circulating well!
The family returns in the story of Gibb Macgalloway, a sea captain enjoined by his brother, the Duke, in giving passage (gasp!) to Georgia for one Isabella Harcourt. The poor woman has been engaged to a silver miner in Savannah by her father, and needs passage. But over the weeks on board the two have time to share interest and attraction — and when they part, there's a sense of loss so sharp it hurts. It's hard to see the way to the HEA -- but author Amy Jarecki manages to bring the couple back together with a rollicking adventure to boot. A fun read. (I received an advance copy via NetGalley. Opinions mine.)
Isabella Harcourt, daughter to Sir Kings into n Harcourt, is a spinster bluestocking. She is piecing together Roman tablets found at the site on their West Essex property. When her father announces he has pledged her hand in marriage for a finders fee to an American, Mr. Schuyler. He is older and wants an English Rose for a wife and children.
She and her maid travel with her father to Musselburgh— Firth of Forth, to meet the captain that will ferry her to Georgia. She meets a rogue who tricks her into a wager for a kiss. Peter she finds out it is the captain of the ship and the Duke of Dunscaby brother, Lord Gibb MacGalloway.
On the journey to Georgia the two strike up a friendship. He helps her with the tablets and she starts to fall for his charms. The first night on board she and her maid become sick while Gibb stays with Isabella, the cabin boy Duncan sits with the maid.
Lord Captain Gibb MacGalloway has a love of the sea and adventure. He does not need to marry and does not think that having a wife would fit his lifestyle. After spending time with Isabella he is rethinking that.
Joint in the ocean voyage as you piece together tablets, learn sea terms and habits, and Roman history. Will they get the tablets decoded and learn all the writers secrets? Will Isabella marry her Mr. Schuyler? Will Gibb tell Isabella what he has learned from her? For more joy and fun you will discover reasons to travel, imagine, and mystery in this story I do very much recommend any book by Amy as she bring to life the characters and scenery in such a way as for you to visualize being there
