This is a great book and I hope you get yourself a copy so you can enjoy reading it too! Thank you for writing such a great book!
I recently watched a Belgium TV series where the husband was a kingpin in the drug business, which his wife didn't know about. When he was killed, she had to continue the business on the fear of her children's lives. This book was so well written and gripping, I honestly was thinking it was the book the show was made off! Thrilling read from beginning to end.
Alison Tanner thought she had a great life. Her husband Tom's consulting business has granted them entrance into the country club group and paid for their daughters private school tuition. They live in a gorgeous house, she drives an expensive car, and she could have designer clothes if she wanted. After Tom is killed in a gang-related shooting, her seemingly perfect life comes crashing down. His business was a front for his real business of being a drug dealer. He owed a drug lord a lot of money and now Alison is on the hook for it. DEA agent Banks wants her to become an informant in order to get the drug lord.
This was a great thriller, full of suspense and twists. I liked how Alison was brave and risked everything for her daughter and her's survival. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy.
A very slow start but ended up becoming a great story with lots of twists and turns. I would recommend it as a suspenseful and intriguing read. Enjoyed it!
This was a fast paced action thriller. I gave it 3 stars. Its about a wife who's husband has been murdered and she now has to figure out what type of things he was secretly doing without her knowledge. I would pick up more from this author in the future.
I do not get a praise for this book. It is really terrible, quite an amateur writing.
Maybe it gets better later on but within 20% I found the main character unbelievable. The beginning with the teenager daughter's drama and interaction with her was quite interesting but it got old soon. I prefer to feel as I am walking in the main character's shoes. Here it felt like watching a bad movie and going through motions just to get it to the end so I decided not to waste my time.
Maybe an issue was that a male writer was writing a female's perspective and it ended up very flat.
Thanks to Netgalley for the free copy in exchange of an honest review.
Blown kept me interested all the way through. Once I started I didn’t stop until the end, even though I had to get up early the next day. Good writing,
This was a fantastic read!
Alison Tanner is on her way home from picking up her daughter, Sarah, from the principal's office, but upon turning onto the street where they live, she is greeted by a police car parked in front of their home.
Alison is informed that there was an accident and requested to go to the station to identify her husband's body. Bad news upon bad news was heaped with more when the detective begins throwing questions of her whereabouts followed by her husband's whereabouts. It soon becomes apparent to Alison that there's got to be a huge misunderstanding!
Her husband murdered, her daughter is rebellious,a mother-in-law that hates her, her accounts all frozen, and the police think she is guilty! Welcome to Alison's life!
When a package is found on her doorstep, containing a burner phone with a message just for her, Alison thinks nothing of tossing it in the garbage. As much as she may have wanted to ignore the message, she finds herself kidnapped and given an ultimatum. Looks like the police were right about her husband after all and Tom's mess is now her responsibility if she wants to keep Sarah safe.
Alison finds herself between a rock and a hard place with no family or friends. By happenstance, Alison opens up to Tom's old friend who owes a favor to Tom and just might be the only one help her providing that she can get out alive from a situation she requested.
I was kept glued to this story and enjoyed Alison's character development from weak to strong. I especially applauded her for standing up to her mother-in-law who needed to be put in her place a long time ago. In the end, Alison had some very good friends on her side that she had passed judgment on and the people that she thought would be more classy turned out to be horrid. Just goes to show don't judge a person from the outside!
I received an ARC from NetGalley via Sterling & Stone and I have voluntarily reviewed this book.
A quick moving book with just about the worse scenario possible for a wife and mom. And more how in the world can she keep her daughter safe and get out of it at the same time? Read Alison and Sarah's story and how they deal with the loss of husband and father and come to terms with who he really was.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Alison Tanner thought she was living her best life. Her husband’s seven-figure consulting business earned them entry into the country club crowd and paid for her gifted daughter’s tuition at the best private school in the area. She lives in a gorgeous house, drives an expensive car, and she could afford designer clothes, if she cared about fashion at all.
But when her husband, Tom, is killed in a gang related shooting, it all comes crashing down. Tom’s consulting agency was just a front for his real business: keeping their wealthy neighbors supplied with cocaine, oxycontin, and every other illegal drug money can buy. Tom died owing the local drug lord a lot of money and now Alison’s on the hook.
Worse, unscrupulous DEA Agent Banks wants her to be his informant in a sting operation and doesn’t care if she survives, as long as he gets his man.
Desperate to protect her daughter from both a vengeful mother-in-law who wants custody and a drug lord who wants her daughter to work off Tom’s debts in the streets, Alison agrees to go undercover, wearing a wire as she sells drugs to her snobby neighbors and learns more about the drug lord’s operation.
If she ever gets out of this, she vows she’ll take her daughter and disappear forever but her chances of surviving are getting worse by the minute. Does she have a shot at ever living a normal life again, or is everything blown?
Really enjoyable read totally recommend
Thank You NetGalley and Sterling & Stone
I just reviewed Blown by Nolon King. #Blown #NetGalley
Allison was living her best life as a stay at home wife and mother. Married to her high school sweetheart , and she thought she had it all. But all of this was about to change for the worse, when an officer knocks at her door and informs her that her husband was killed. Allison's world collapses when she realizes that all along she lived in a bubble, and her husband was living a double life. His "job" wasn't so clean and was in debt to the mafia.
Now Allison has to with the debt, a spoiled brat for a child that keeps bossing her around, and a nasty mother-in-law.
I personally didn't liked Allison one bit. She is weak and lives in her own little world. She isn't able to control her own kid and becomes a doormat for her daughter, yet the author tries to portray her as this brave and smart woman who is about to go after the criminals and end the mafia boss.
The plot is complicated and there are a lot of twists and turns. Overall a good read.
Allison Tanner thought her life was great, married to her high school sweetheart Tom she lives a great life taking care of their daughter. Allison thinks she has it all, and while she’s totally different than the women she associated with, she makes it work for her husbands business deals. One night the police show up at her home and tell her that Tom has been murdered. Allison soon learns Tom “job” wasn’t exaclty what he presented it as, and Allison is now caught up in Tom’s other life. Now the police, DEA and the people Tom was working with are all coming to Aliision for answers she doesn’t have.
The book overall was good, however I could not stand the main character Allison. You can tell a man wrote this and honestly the way he wrote this character you can clearly see his views on women. Allison is written as a dumb, naïve housewife, who all of a sudden can hang with the criminal underworld. Allison and Toms daughter is a total brat who is EXTREMELY disrespectful. The author wants us to believe Allison is some bad ass who can take on the criminal underworld, but who is also afraid of her own daughter. Her daughter makes demands and speaks to her mother as if she is the parent and Allison cowers any time her daughter challenges her, yet she making demands of the dangerous criminals her husband was dealing with. If ever a man should not write a female mani character its this author. If you can get past the way he writes about women overall it was a pretty good read.
Thank you Sterling & Stone and NetGalley for this ARC
I enjoyed this easy read thriller! Plenty of action and twists. Also lighthearted comical aspects. I’d recommend for those who enjoyed the show weeds!
After her husband’s murder, Allison has to get away from a dangerous place where her late husband left her. He was dealing for a big magia long and now she has to pay off his debt. On top of that, her relationship with her daughter is taking a stroll.
I found this story riveting and very engaging. From the first chapter I was hooked in knowing what’s happening and where would it take me next.
Alison is a great female character and I loved how she seemed so reliable and real throughout the story.
There are quite a few unexpected twists in my opinion and I think many readers will enjoy this book.
Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy through NetGalley
So many twists and turns! Liked the story set up! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!
I really liked the writing style of this author. The progenitor was relatable. It was easy to read with a fast pace
Alison’s world turns upside down after her husband’s murder. It’s soon discovered that he was leading a dangerous life as a drug dealer. With her husband gone, Alison must take care of her teenage daughter AND repay a debt to the drug lord .
Am interesting plot complicated by an overbearing, nasty mother-in-law and a very strained relationship with her daughter.
Thanks to the author and publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
I really enjoyed this book and loved how fast past it was. the main character has strong character development and there were many unexpected plot twister. this book is definitely a page turner!
Thank you to netgalley for this ARC!
Alison Tanner has been thrown into drug dealing thanks to her husband. But when he's killed in a gang-related stabbing, Alison is now forced to continue selling drugs on behalf of her husband in order to pay off 125K owed to his drug lord. She struggles with this decision in order to save her daughter, Sarah. Then the police get involved as well as the DEA and she decides to infiltrate the drug-selling world in order to get out of what her husband started.
This book was an awesome page turner. Chapter after chapter, I kept wanting to know what was going to happen to Alison and Sarah. The story was believable and the entire time I kept thinking the story sounded similar to maybe a movie or a show I've seen (which is why my rating lost a star), in my mind it was slightly similar in idea to the show "Weeds." Overall, the story was written great. The ending was fitting and tied everything together (and includes a short chapter about a year later).
I received an ARC via NetGally in return for am honest review.
Prescription drugs, black market drugs, and undercover woman coerced by Tom, Goliat and Ellis into a ruthless, brutal gang and drug war turf takeover about blows Alison away as she gets drawn in, or should that be 'dragged' in.
There's definitely a lot of twists and turns in this book. There’s definitely moments in the book where you’re like, I don’t want to put the book down but oof I have to or else mama will whoop my ass as it’s the middle of the knight.
Overall, a good read !
