well written with a compelling storyline and well developed characters. a good amount fo twists and suspense and unpredictability that left me guessing until the end. Every book by this author that I have read I have loved so definitely going to check out more of her work.
You have always wondered. Kelsey Warren is back town to sort out her Aunt Ruth's affairs and the last thing she wants is to meet Mitch Garrett again. He broke her heart all those years ago and it still hurts. But she can put aside her feelings to help her friend Stu. But everything changes when they find a body in the quarry. Kelsey knows that it is her mother. She just disappeared one day which wasn't unusual but it explains alot of things.
Seeing that Mitch is the sheriff she knows that he will find out what happened to her mother but Kelsey has so many questions. She knows that her mother made many enemies but who wanted her dead?
Someone wants to send a message to Kelsey that she could be next but why now? The past is about to bring up many secrets.
She isn't too sure about getting involved with Mitch as it hurt so much the first time but she finds that she has fallen already and that this might be their time.
Can Mitch find the killer before he is too late?
A great thrilling read. Many twists & turns.
I liked the characters as they all add to the read. Kelsey is always keeping everyone at arms length especially after her unhappy childhood but I am glad that she allows Mitch in.
Mitch is the strong alpha type and he regrets what he did to Kelsey and he knows that he can't let her go now.
Thank you Netgalley & the publisher HarperCollins for the ARC copy. This is my voluntary review
This is an old reissue that I read years ago. I wish that reissue was placed on the cover of these books. I did reread it but remembered so much that I skimmed a lot. The ok’d HQ books are a lot shorter than he newer books
I was excited when I saw “new” Mary Burton books as I love her romantic suspense books. This was just a rebrand of an early 2000s mass market Silhouette book. It was a totally fine read but read more as a novella than a novel and didn’t have the same punch as her more recent works. Would recommend to new fans more than current ones as it’s a good intro to Ms Burton but lacks her more recent thrillers.
A fast paced read. I enjoy Burton and how she paced her mysteries. This was a fun standalone with good story and characters.
Kelsey is a successful photographer and journalist who has returned to her home town. Her Mother abandoned her when she was a teenager so the town doesn’t have good memories for her. There is also an old flame who is now the Sheriff that Kelsey wants to avoid, she doesn’t want to get hurt again. When her Mothers body is discovered in her car in a quarry, she had been shot, Kelsey needs to find out who did it. There is suspense and a romance in the book. I suspected who the guilty party was and I was right. I always enjoy Mary’s books and this one doesn’t disappoint. I look forward to her next book. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
Kelsey Warren returns home after 8 years away to attend the funeral of the aunt that took her in when Kelsey's mother abandoned her. Kelsey had a teenage romance with Mitch, who she found was not the person that she thought he was.
She arrives back in the small town and of course, Mitch is one of the first people she bumps into.
The mystery of Kelsey's mother's disappearance, and the disappearance and murder of two people is solved when Mitch and Kelsey join forces to find out who hates Kelsey enough to threaten her life.
Loved this book, loved the characters and the story. Mary Burton never fails to please with her romantic suspense books. They are a welcome change to some of the other books that I read, I feel they are a 'palate cleanser' so to speak. There is always another twist to keep one reading to the next chapter.
Thanks to the publishers and Netgalley
Keep you close by Mary Burton.
Old secrets are hard to keep buried Kelsey Warren may now be a high-flying journalist, but she’s never forgiven her reckless mother Donna for abandoning her as a teenager.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved Kelsey character. Loved how she was with Mitch.
Definitely recommend. 5*.
Mary Burton has a suspenseful thriller in her book, Keep You Close. Underwater photographer Kelsey Warren travels to Grant's Forge, VA from her latest photo shoot in Fiji but doesn't arrive in time for her aunt's funeral, the aunt who raised her after her mother disappeared. Circumstances bring Kelsey back together with the guy who broke her heart when she eighteen. That guy, Mitch Garrett is now sheriff. Strange things start happening in town after a body is discovered in a car in the flooded local quarry. I enjoyed following along as Kelsey and Mitch work to solve the mystery of the body in the car and the other strange happenings. This was a chilling, thrilling read. Mary Burton is an excellent storyteller.
Good book! These books are a bit short but I still feel like u got the whole story! This book had suspense, intrigue, action, and lots of twists and turns! The storyline was interesting and flowed nicely! I will definitely recommend reading this book! It was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
Yet again, I can’t say I’m disappointed by this author. Kelsey and Mitch had a past, but could they have a present, as well as a future? Or were they destined to only have memories and regrets?
Kelsey returned to a town full of people who despised and bullied her because of a death in the family. Imagine her surprise when she found that the one who supposedly abandoned her all those years ago may not have. And the guy who crushed her young heart seemed to want another chance with her. But she couldn’t tell if Mitch truly wanted her and wanted more than fun times, or if he just wanted a temporary fling with a woman sure to leave town again.
While wondering about all of this and while Mitch did his best to figure out exactly how to move forward with Kelsey, danger closed in. Bodies piled up. And the reasons why all pointed to some old history and betrayals that never fully healed.
I found myself waffling between two suspects here, but the truth was a little messier than that. The reasons had me wondering. And the fact that Kelsey and Mitch held each other’s hearts had me happy for the good that came of this misery. So if you’re looking for a quick read of memories, opportunities lost, and love rediscovered, this is definitely worth your time.
