DNF
I just really couldn't get in to it and I just wasn't a fan of the characters.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC
Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins for the advanced copy of the book.
A fun read that was quick yet was missing something, I didn’t feel connected to the characters which kind of took away from my experience :/
One date. One missed chance. One mission to find love.
At 31-years-old, Helen Pines is far from where she thought she would be. Whilst her ex-boyfriend is now engaged, Helen’s still eating ready meals for one, wistfully dreaming of her last first date.
Determined to give online dating a go, she matches with drop-dead-gorgeous Brody, and they hit it off immediately.
One date later, Helen’s heart is still singing. Brody’s everything she’s looking for in a man – sexy, charismatic, and the perfect gentleman. But then she receives an error message on the app… all her contacts have been deleted.
With nothing but Brody’s name and job title to go on, Helen is determined to track him down.
But despite the initial chemistry, Helen realises she knows surprisingly little about her mystery man… Was it really love-at-first like, or will she find a new love along the way?
An utterly hilarious laugh-out-loud romance that will have you grinning from ear to ear from the first page to the last! Fans of Our Stop and Mhairi McFarlane will love this book.
It took me awhile to get into this book. The writing was a little weird for me but once I got into it more it got better. This ended up being a cute book. There were a few parts that I didn't like esp the Latina friend. I also didn't like her putting herself down constantly.

This was a fun, quick read. My favorite part was that it was not truly predictable from the beginning. Don't get me wrong, even those books are fun to read, but this one was even more interesting because of that.
Regretfully this became a DNF at 21%.
The title and cover sucked me straight in - I couldn't wait to read this one. The concept was promising and I got the impression I would be reading story about a woman who almost experiences insta-love with a man, or even to be able to feel the connection between the characters and enjoy their banter.
I couldn't get past the writing style to actually enjoy any of the plot points. The Last First Date didn't read very well - details I wanted were skimmed over completely and the writing was chopping and the scenes jumpy.
I really wanted to like this book, but it just didn't work out for me. I thought the concept of the story was very intriguing, to lose contact with a good first connection and then try to find them. Some of the characters were fun to read about, such as Ish and Elle, but not too much time was spent on them. However, I found the other characters to be too cheesy and the scenes too predictable in a bad way. I wish there was more time spent on Helen's baking career instead of mentioning it and then nothing happening with it. It was a quick read overall
Helen, who was just dumped, uses a dating app to look for her next partner. She sets out to find her date, "The One," after the app crashes following a wonderful evening and all contact information is lost. Life continues to go on despite her insane search for Brody, and she makes new acquaintances along the way.
I adored Nanny G and her wild personality! Although I might have predicted the outcome, it was still a pleasant, uplifting tale.
I appreciate this arc from HarperCollins UK and NetGalley.
This book was a cute read. It had a great idea, and I really wish I loved this book, but it just wasn’t for me. I had a hard time connecting with the characters. :( In my opinion Helen came across immature, and some dialogue was a bit strange (I had to re-read parts to understand). Some scenes I skimmed because I found them boring, but overall this was a fun read.
That being said, I will read the next book by Hayley Quinn.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins for the opportunity to read this ARC.
This was a do-not-finish with me. I really struggled to connect with the character in this one! I was really looking for more depth but couldn't find it. I love romances but for me I like reading about characters who have life goals outside their love lives - if you want purely romance this might be for you, just wasn't for me.
It is a solid book. Classic love story. The characters haven't been as developed. I did not build a "relationship" with them. But I liked the story and it was well written.
Helen is a food blogger who laments her single status in the lead up to her thirtieth birthday, triggered in large part by the engagement of her ex-boyfriend. She reluctantly joins a dating app and meets Brody, who might just be the man of her dreams. After an app glitch causes them to lose contact, she sets out to find him and finds herself on quite the adventure...
This was a fun read with an interesting premise and an original twist. Nanny G was a great character with an engaging storyline, and it would have been ideal if other supporting characters were fleshed out in a similar way. Helen’s self-pitying tone became a little draining to read after a while and large sections of her inner monologue could have done with further editing. The book might also have benefitted from a faster pace to maintain interest throughout and to hook you from the beginning.
Overall this is an easy, light-hearted summer read that would be ideal for a lazy day on the beach.
Thank you to Net Galley and Harper Collins for providing an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
(N.B, The ' Post review to Goodreads' option is not working - the error message 'Unable to find book with ISBN "9780008511036" on Goodreads' appears, therefore I have posted separately and added the link below)
It's been such a good year for contemporary romances that this one wasn't a top tier pick for me. Third tier purchase
A DNF for me. I tried, but it just didn't click. I couldn't relate to the characters they felt forced upon me. This book just wasn't my cup of tea.
Thank you to NetGalley and HQ, HQ Digital for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
At 31, Helen is fed up of being single especially after seeing her commitment-phobe ex had recently got engaged. Helen decides to start online dating and meets Brody, but they lose contact soon after and she puts everything into finding him again.
This book was cute and a really fun read!
Ish was definitely my favourite character!
I felt sometimes there were some rushed sections but other than that I enjoyed it!
I rated this book 3 stars.
This was such a fun cozy read, I could not put it down. Read in one sitting! I would recommend to anyone looking for a quick but enjoyable read!
I overall enjoyed this book. The story and romance element were cute (I loved Ish!). The grandma element was sweet and sentimental. I will say parts of the book read…young maybe for lack of a better word. Helen comes across really immature at times and some of the dialogue is very odd considering these are 30-something’s. Speaking as a thirty something, it reads a little young. Overall though it was a cute, quick read.
I thought this was a nice, comfortable read that I enjoyed. It wasn't putdownable for me, but it was excellent to unwind at the end of a long work day.
this book started off very strong but towards the middle, i became a little bored. some of the characters were great but others, not so much. the writing wasn’t really for me either.
DNF for me which was unfortunate because it started out strong. I lost interest by 50% and didn’t proceed
Thank you for the eARC in exchange for an honest review
I really liked the premise of this story which is why I picked it up, but I don't know if it satisfied my expectations. I ended up skipping many parts of the book as I became bored.
I do like how the book ended though and what happened with Helen's love life, and I thought it was nice how it showed dating in one's 30s. I'm not even sure if I felt any chemistry between the 2 MCs - it all felt a bit rushed.
Overall, while I didn't enjoy this, it may be someone else's cup of tea.
