"A weary world deserves a little dreaming." 😍
This book is a fairytale 🤴and I enjoyed it very much. Micah has never asked anyone out but he chronicled 99 potential boyfriend in fairytale sketches that gained him a dedicated Instagram following. When he meets and then loses Grant on the train it's fate and with the help of his friends (Elliott and Hannah) he finds him again and they lived happily ever after, or did they?

This is a super sweet YA about first love and finding the right person even if it is not who you expected at first. It portrays the internal struggles beautifully. It also portrays the way love can makes us grow, accept challenges and jump over our own shadows (even if that love isn't all we thought it would be). And I loved to see all the supportive parents.

It was a bit predictable but I actually didn't mind (and the blurb also gave it away and the fact that the happy ending happens in the first 1/3 of the book). There are several over the top events but isn't that just what happens in fairytales?

The cover is gorgeous! The inclusion of sketches was giving it the extra little touches.

If you are after something sweet, love YA and looking for happy ever after with a twist, this is for you!

4.5 rounded up

Thank you Adam Sass for putting me through every possible emotion.

This book was not what I imagined in any way shape or form. It did not turn out to be the typical romance story that I expected. Instead it was a roller coaster ride of emotions and adventure.

I was really excited to receive this ARC after reading Surrender Your Sons earlier this year and loving it. This is a big leap from Surrender Your Sons but a welcome one. This story had so many feel good moments as well as several heart stopping moments. Elliot is my favourite person to ever exist and I want nothing but the best for him.

Highly recommend checking this out when it releases on September 20th. Adam Sass is an excellent author. I’ve loved both of his novels so far and can’t wait to see what he does in the future.

thanks to netgalley and penguin group for the arc!

the 99 boyfriends of micah summers is a YA fiction book about micah, a high schooler who has a secret instagram account where he draws boys he has crushes on in a fairy tale setting. he meets boy100 on a train ride and ends up losing him in foot traffic but keeping his jacket, and goes off on a quest to find him with his best friend hannah and her newer best friend, elliot. micah reveals his identity to his account after reuniting with and starting to date boy100, Grant, but micah starts to realize that relationships aren't the perfect fairy tale he always thought they were.

for me, this book was just fine. i was really interested in elliot, hannah, and grant, but i thought that micah could be annoying at times and was super self absorbed. i think for me i need to start moving away from stories about famous social media accounts as well, as i just don't care for them as much. i was also lowkey wanting micah, elliot, and grant to become a polycule, as i loved the way their creativity was written when all three of them worked together, but most of the lines about that were supposed to establish the love triangle, not a possible relationship :(

other than the book not being for me, i do think that it is well written. anyone who is an artist and likes YA books should pick it up, they may see themselves reflected in the characters. i loved that we got to see some of micah's art as well! it's also nice for queer kids to be able to pick up a story where they are getting their own fairy tale romance. i will be recommending this book to anyone who seems interested!

I'm too excited so I must lead my review with this: <3 I LOVE THIS BOOK WITH EVERY FIBER OF MY BEING <3

This was such a cute queer romance that modernizes fairytales. This is a MUST READ!!! I truly was so enthralled with the story that I devoured the last 70% of it over the past few hours; I simply could not put it down, even to get a snack. The writing was wonderful––relatable, funny, beautiful––and the characters were so beautifully written. I was rooting for Elliot since the beginning and when Micah couldn't see how infatuated he was with him, I was practically screaming at my Kindle. Elliot just meshes so well with Micah; he automatically understands him in a way that no one else does (sorry Grant) and you could just feel their chemistry, their connection, from their very first 'quest' and probably well before. (In fact, the more I think about it, I feel as though the reason Micah was so hesitant to get to know him wasn't because of how close he was with Hannah; subconsciously, he knew he was boy 100, or would at least mean a lot to him, but he shied away. And, ironically, that shyness is exactly the antithesis of what Elliot would bring to his life.)

Anyway! I'm rambling because I absolutely adored every part of this book. Okay, except for Grant (oops, sorry!). It was just so aggravating how apparent it was that their relationship was built mainly on Micah's fame. Grant was just using him for the art show, for promo, etc., and it made me upset. But that just further cements how perfect Elliot is for him because he sees him as he is, not for what his fame can give him.

It was such a pleasure getting to know Micah, Elliot, and the entire cast. If there are two characters most deserving of a fairytale, happy ever after ending, it is Micah and Elliot, and I am so glad Micah saved the day with that pumpkin. <3

(Also, can we talk about the full circle pumpkin moment here?? The pumpkin that Micah thinks leads to Grant actually leads to Elliot all along. Chefs kiss.)

Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for the chance to read and review this ARC! I loved every second of it (:

Such a sweet fairytale. I've found I can tolerate YA romance because it's innocent and sweet. 🤣 When adults are acting ridiculous in their romances, I simply cannot stand it. 🤣

The author wrote a very cute queer romance and I loved it. 💗 Definitely recommend if you like YA novels!

Thanks to NetGalley for permitting me to read an advanced copy of this novel.
It's a light, YA queer romance with a lot of cute references to fairy tales. It was a quick and enjoyable read, although I found it a bit too corny for my taste. Also, the ending is very predictable - but often in romance novels that's not really an issue.

Such a cute drama read. While there were some slow spots it never failed to pick back up and keep you wanting to speed read in excitement. Forcing yourself to slow down is probably the hardest part. Haha

To be honest, I found the beginning boring and not wanting to continue reading but I continued and I began being invested when it was time finding boy 100. The problem was that didn’t really care for the characters as much as I thought I would. I found them, boring, I guess? When we finally met boy 100, it didn’t really meet my expectations, it was just fine. I stopped reading at 56% because i just couldn’t keep reading. I found it so boring. The plot was a good idea but I just did not fall in love with the book. It didn’t interest me.

“People seemed to need the fantasy, especially when the world isn't built around love like ours. Queers have to make our own magical stories from scratch, and I'm going to do whatever I can to help queer people dream.”

a light, fun, wholesome read that i think is the romcom i have been looking for this whole time. what drew me in first was the catchy title and that gorgeous art on the cover. what kept me going from the first page to the last was my connection with the main character. as i read, i felt myself empathizing with and rooting for micah almost immediately. it was like i could see myself in him. the instaloves is such a unique concept that i was enchanted. the 99 boyfriends of micah summers had me sold because of its charming premise that brings to mind a gay cinderella and his prince charming, and i could tell just how much love author adam sass put into creating his world and breathing life into his characters. there is a lot to like about this book, but i think what i loved most about it is how tender and positive it is.

Truly, charming is the right word for this, though there was a LOT of stressful lack of communication! I liked the bait and switch elements--predictable but enjoyable. Micah was messy but sweet, and his LIs were complicated but really enjoyable too. The INTENSITY of everything was really overwhelming but felt true to high school life. I liked this! It would be a sweet addition to a hs library.

Loved this YA rom com retelling of a fairy tale. The charters were lovable and the events that occurred were fun to read. The book was overall whimsy and easy to read though at times predictable.

Well. I’m a big fan of fantasy retelling and this book had pretty much all of them!!!! And they were tied up in a perfect queer romance with TONS of laughs and gigantic tugs on my heart and cool art of all different sorts. And, ya know, here’s a strange thing for me to have delighted in perhaps, but I just adore that both of the Summers kids are gay. And it’s NOT a thing. Like, at all. This is a truly special story with a fairy tale everything and some reality that just makes it more delightful. I loved loved loved it. 💜💜💜📚

I really enjoyed this book! The added art and the story throughout the city of Chicago. All references to the city were accurate and up to date. Micah was a fun character to get to know and I adores Elliot. A fun, fluffy read for sure.
