I enjoyed this book immensely. The storyline was compelling and I loved the guessing game! It kept me on my toes for sure and hooked me from the first chapter!
It’s hard when you can identify with the main character, but she’s also a bad person. Almost all mothers would do anything for their family, but Victoria takes it to the extreme. After a terrible accident, Victoria’s family is changing. Her daughter is acting out, her husband is in terrible pain and her son is showing signs of autism. There are no lengths Victoria will go to, to ensure that her family is perfect in every way.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to review this book.
Victoria has the perfect family. One child is taking Latin courses. Her other child is a musical prodigy. her husband has a good-paying job. However, if you peek below the surface, everything in her life is unraveling.
This is billed as a domestic thriller, but honestly, there's nothing thrilling about it. There aren't any twists and turns, just a deeply narcissistic main character that I disliked immediately. Victoria is awful. AWFUL. I can't think of a single redeeming quality this woman had. I kept looking for some good, some small flicker of humanity in her that would have made her interesting as a villain, but all I got was some lame, barely-there backstory about growing up poor. About midway through the book, I was just rage reading, hoping that all of her bad deeds would catch up to her. Her husband is a coward and I didn't like him much either, but at least he had some humanity to him. All in all, I just didn't enjoy this book.
I was given this book by NetGalley for an honest review -
Victoria has to have the perfect family no matter what it takes - - sooo how far will she go to make it happen?? How many people will it involve?
I absolutely enjoyed this book, this was my 1st but definitely not last read by this author. I thought the writing style was great it kept me intrigued and wanting more wondering just how far our main character would go to "protect" her family & then I was asking myself how far would I go to "protect" my family and would I do all of the things that Victoria did? I loved the fact that characters in this book were actually human and made mistakes, had real problems and differences, that everyone wasn't perfect or never having to worry about money. I thought the ending was symbolic or karmic I don't want to say to much because I don't want to put any spoilers but I think a mistake made in the beginning was made right with a selfless act in the ending however this is just my take away and I believe the authors intent was for it to be subjective.
Thank you NetGalley and Inkubator Books for the copy of The Perfect Family. This story was not for me. We never really get to know the characters, like *why* Victoria is the way she is and cares more about the reputation of her family than she does about her family members themselves. Why is Kit so weak?
The story had promise, but then got muddled with Victoria doing things that were totally unhinged (no spoilers!) that were completely outrageous. Once again with no thought of the consequences or how it would affect her family members.
If you're looking for a quick, mindless read, you might like this book. If you’re looking for something more character-driven this is probably not the book for you.
2.5 stars rounded up to 3.
Victoria has the perfect life. And she’ll do whatever it takes to keep it.
Victoria is all about image, on the surface, she has it all - a big house, a successful husband and two beautiful children. Behind the scenes, Victoria and her husband have a dark secret and she lives in terror of it being discovered, of her perfect facade being shattered forever.
Victoria realises she has to act now or she will lose everything. And that’s when she has to ask herself - how far is she willing to go, how much is she willing to do, to preserve her perfect family?
The book kept me interested most of the way through. I thought it ended quite abruptly though.
For the most part I really enjoyed The Perfect Family. The plot was full of twists and turns, and kept me interested the whole time. However, I really disliked the ending--it was too neat and tidy, and seemed to treat a huge range of character flaws as being the same weight, even when some flaws were objectively far worse than others.
A well written thriller. It kept me up late a few nights, and my interest didn’t wane. I think my favorite part was all of the characters had issues, and there was no perfect person. I did like the shift in POVs, and it helped me to see the difference for how the story impacted the characters. Victoria wanted to have the perfect life that she was so in denial! I was gripped the entire time, even if the ending seemed a little too tied up nicely.
Thank you NetGalley and Inkubator for the digital review copy.
Thank you NetGalley and Inkubator Books for an early copy of The Perfect Family. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! What an interesting read, I cannot get my head around all the different ways the main character acted. This was soooo well written, the main character was someone I couldn't imagine ever being around. Nothing like I expected, I absolutely LOVED this fast reading, head spinning book!!!!
This book was full of crazy twists. At first, things seemed like the family's life was a little boring, but then the secrets came out and everything unraveled, bit by bit, revealing the extent the family would go for each other. There were several things that were over the top crazy, but those things actually fit the characters' personalities. Each new action made you wonder how things could possibly be resolved. In the end, it was all wrapped up and lives were changed, and even though the ending might have been too tidy, it was imperfect and flawed, just like the characters.
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, Inkubator Books and by #NetGalley. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
Enjoyable, well written with twists and turns.
An enjoyable read but difficult to say exactly why?
Victoria we believe has the perfect life, the home, the family but all is not what it seems. For starters Victoria and her husband are keeping a secret and her life begins to fall apart.
There were few characters that i liked in this book and the fact that i understood it to be a thriller had me confused as there were a number of comedic moments.
A decent read by the pool.
I enjoyed this book a lot! I loved the twist and turns. The plot was written well and the character development was there.
Such a great book, I thoroughly enjoyed it and could not put it down, never be fooled by families as things are never as they seem especially when they look picture perfect ..
This was a gripping read that i couldn't put down. It was twisty and unpredictable and kept me guessing until the end. I didn;'t know what to think or who to believe. I loved it.
oh wow i absolutely loved this! gripped me from the first page to the last and didn't let go. extremely readable. brilliantly flawed characters and great plot.
