A brilliant story. I loved the charity shop and how Gracie reused all the old tatty stuff. Her character was deep and I am glad she found happiness. Lucas was amazing and he puts us all to shame. Makes you wonder how charity shops work. Some nice male bonding over pints an mother’s love. Good read.
Having read the Tanglewood-series by Lilac Mills, I requested this book, not realising it was the third instalment of the Applewell-series. Although this book can easily be read as a stand-alone, George (from the first book) and Lottie and Henry (from the second) do make a small cameo appearance which does make me want to read these books too.
A ‘Stitch in Time in Applewell’ follows Lucas upon his return to his hometown of Applewell, a town and life he ran away from when he was only 17. Returning to Applewell, after the loss of his dear friend Effron, he wants to rebuild his relationships with both his mother and his sister Nora as a promise to Effron. Hoping to leave Applewell with a better mindset, back to his flat and work in London.
He didn’t count on meeting Gracie, owner of ‘A Stitch in Time’, where she enjoys her sewing, creating dolls for ‘Under Cover’ for example and doing alterations for her clients. The more Lucas gets to know Gracie, the more he realises his future might be in the town he once ran away from.
Applewell sounds like a wonderful community where everyone looks out for one another. And I enjoyed getting to know both Gracie and Lucas and loved Lucas was able to mend his relationships with his family.
Absolutely lovely book!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for my advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
Lilac Mills has become one of my favorite authors!
A Stitch in Time in Applewell follows Lucas who returns to the small town Applewell having run away from that place and moving to London years ago. While in Applewell, his main job is to streamline homeless charity which might put Gracie out of job. However, soon a bond between Lucas and Gracie develops while in Applewell.
The story is mainly told from Lucas and Gracie's point of view. It was quite enjoyable to read and the author has done a good job of drawing the reader to the story. Despite the fact that I am not so much into romance, this book actually warmed my heart up. I was engrossed into the story of this heartwarming tale. Though the ending was predictable, I enjoyed reading about the small town of Applewell.
Overall, if you like a romantic comedy book, this book is one for you--worth five stars!
Many thanks to Netgalley and Canelo for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion onl
Really cute and cozy romance. Comforting read with a cup of tea. I’ll look forward to more in this series as I enjoy the Applewell characters. Gracie and Logan worked well together.
Perfect weekend afternoon read.
Another wonderful book in the wonderful Applewell. This book centres on Lucas who returns to his family home after leaving under a cloud 17 years ago and Gracie the local sremstress who owns her own shop which is her idea of heaven. From the minute their eyes met they begin to feel excited whenever their paths cross but will anything blossom. A wonderful read
This is the third book in the Applewell series but it can easily be read as a stand-alone book. The storyline has a strong message of reduce, reuse and recycle but the book is written with humour and never feels like it is pushing the message too far. The main characters of Lucas and Gracie are quirky and likeable and you want them to find their happy ending.
A sweet and heartwarming romance full of community spirit and quirky characters. Beautifully written and I got really invested in the story. I would highly recommend reading this one. A clever, engrossing story with fabulous characters.
Great characters and such a sweet story. After running away from home as a teenager, Lucas comes home years later after the death of a friend and meets Gracie. They discover friendship which eventually leads to more. I guess this would be considered a slow-burn romance and it was a nice, sweet read.
I will add that the description of the book about the dress being destroyed and Gracie fixing it was a bit odd… it was not even a full chapter of the story. With it being called out in the description, I thought it would be more of a storyline. But, with that said, it was still a good book and the other storylines worked well together.
A Stich in time in Applewell, wow this was a fun. gently emotional book as the story's background was something I have not read about before. I especially liked the introvert heroine who had her fierce moments which were a joy to read.
Gracie is a seamstress in a small town, when Lucas returns from London. Sparks fly when they meet, although he doesn't trust her and wants to return to London. A sweet small town romance set in England. Liked this one and highly recommend it. Good story.
Thanks to Canelo and Netgalley for an advance copy of this book in exchange for a review.
This is the first time I have read a Lilac Mills book and this is the 3rd book in a series, but as I didn't know that when I started and it did not detract from my enjoyment of the book so this can definitely be read as a standalone book.
Enjoyed this and look forward to a return trip to the village.
this is the third book in the series, but can be read as a standalone, this book focuses on Gracie who owns a shop and Lucas who returns to applewell after a long absence. very sweet. book.
Thank you netgalley for this arc.
What a lovely book to read in the sunshine on a bank holiday. It was great to catch up with apple well characters. Gracie owns a stitch in time haberdashery, sewing repairers and thrift shop and she uses it to fill her lonely days and nights. Lucas has returned home after nearly 20 years to the bosom of the family and the village as he needs to grieve for his friend. This book is about friendship and family.
This book is like a wonderful warm hug. I wish Applewell was a real village - I would definitely live there! A lovely story, the perfect escape.
I really enjoy reading Lilac Mills books they are always feel good, happy, enjoyable books. That really do make you smile from ear to ear. They are really easy to read too with great characters. It was really nice to be back in Applewell and to catch up with all the characters again.
In this book we meet Gracie who runs a shop that rescues old clothes a d cast offs and makes them into new and exciting outfits.
Then there is Lucas who had return to the village after leaving in his teens. The village is both happy to see him and also interested in the reasons why he has returned.
As you can probably guess Lucas and Gracie do not get off to a great start at all. But can they work out all their issues to have a great love story?
What a lovely story. Lucas comes home to Applewell and finds that home is really where the heart is. You will love this book!
Lovely book! I am not always a big fan of small town romances but I must admit that this one was lovely. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes romance books, but especially to ones that also like small towns or villages. This book really gave that feel in a nice and homey way and Thai comes from someone who loves the city. However the novel did contain one of my smaller book pet peeve’s, having non fictional songs, people, company’s etc. It was only briefly once or twice but honestly that is my main critique of the book which is a great review if you ask me. Looking forward to dig deeper into Mills other books.

Gracie is a she an introverted person. She is happy with a needle and some fabric in her shop in her little hometown. Lucas left his hometown seventeen years ago and broke his mother and his sister’s heart. He is back to make amends and take a break from his work in charity UnderCover. When Gracie and Lucas meet they feel an instant connection. Can she open her heart to a man who is leaving town? Can Lucas really come back to London when he feels he has finally come back home? A heartwarming love story.
I adored the previous in the series “Make Do and Mend in Applewell” and was really glad to visit the village again. I admit, I did prefer the former book to this one, but not because of anything wrong with this one. It’s just the former was set at Christmas, and because I identify as Mrs Claus, that was always going to come up trumps. I like that, whilst this is book three in the series, you can read them all as standalone stories.
The more I read of this type of book, the more I’m determined to find a quaint little village to move into. Perfectly one with an enigmatic, mysterious handsome man in who I keep bumping into.
I really liked the integration of the serious topics - abandonment, loneliness, relationships, pregnancy, grief, homelessness - into an uplifting positive story; they fit in naturally and it doesn’t feel like Lilac has had to force them in.
Quite often I struggle with the chemistry between lead characters as it’s often very unnatural, but the chemistry between Gracie and Lucas leaps off the page from the very start. And not only that, the chemistry Gracie has with her friends is so warming and just full of heart.
It's a nice romance with a gentle pace. The author swaps the points of view of the two protagonists Lucas the "prodigal son" and the shy Gracie. They are attracted to each other from first sight, but they both fight against their feelings. The story is set in a close knit community. It might be sometimes annoying that everyone knows (and wants to know) everybody else's business, but it also means that they look out for each other. The supporting characters are also loveable. It could be lovely to live in a community like this.
I liked this heartwarming story and can recommend to anyone.
